I have waited to write this review but I think the time has come. I lived at The Timers for over 15 years and was very happy until they changed managers. She and her team neglected to charge any of the residents sewer charges for almost eleven months. We were then charged for the total all at once. This caused quite a panic for many of us. Then a couple of years later, my lease was up for renewal. Two weeks before my deadline, I received an email from them saying that if they didn't hear from me by noon, they would make me month to month. I received the email at 2:30 and rushed to the office. They insisted that it was too late to sign an annual lease, that they "only offer that once a year.". This was with two weeks left before the deadline and after over 15 years of being an excellent tenant. They both raised my rent and charged me an additional monthly fee for being month to month. The pool was locked and unusable for most of four years and the basketball hoop was removed without notice. I loved living at The Timbers until they hired Claire to be the manager. I still miss the apartment but not the uncaring attitude of management. I will say, she decorated the office beautifully for each holiday. read more

I am extremely frustrated with the washers and dryers in this apartment complex. On multiple occasions, I've tried using the laundry facilities, only to find that the machines are either broken or out of order. I've had to re-dry or re-wash clothes because the washer never went through its spin cycle. The issue has been ongoing for quite some time, and it seems like nothing is being done to fix or maintain them properly. It's incredibly inconvenient and disappointing, especially since the laundry room is shared by many residents. The lack of communication about when the machines will be repaired or replaced is also a big issue. I expect more reliable amenities for the price I'm paying in rent. Not to mention all the people that hog the machines and leave their clothes unattended making it impossible to do laundry since only a few machines work. Of 6 washers only 3 work 90% of the time and same goes for the dryers. And it's so expensive to do laundry here at $2.50 per a wash. Lastly, the parking situation is horrible. There are so many unregistered vehicles that park here and don't get towed. One unit alone has 5 vehicles they park without moving. Nothing is ever enforced. I can't wait until my lease expires to leave this place. Until all of this is addressed, I cannot recommend this apartment complex to others. read more

I've already stated my honest review, but yet somehow it isnt showing up anymore. My last review is probably why they are so vindictive towards me...(i still live here) Today I have received yet another false accusation stating that i was "witnessed smoking weed". I don't even smoke weed and i was gone at work on the day they're trying to accuse. They don't like me based off a complaint that I HAD because i was violated when their maintenance staff entered my residence while i was undressed, changing, and are now trying to do anything they can to get me out. Illegally and unethically. I am going to be looking for a new place but i WILL be fighting this in court in the meantime. DO NOT MOVE HERE! the units themselves are whatever but the management (who are also residents) make it IMPOSSIBLE to live in peace by violating trust and professionalism owed to paying tenants. read more

We have lived at the Timbers for nearly a year and love it. On 8/20/23 right in the middle of severe storm event we had a plumbing emergency. It involved the toliet and bathtub so I was very concerned. I called the office number and got immediate response on the phone. The had someone there very shortly. The timber apartments have gave us a welcoming and comfortable place to live. The office has always been attentive whether it's through via email or phone when trying to get a hold of when something has come up. Mary, Amy and Claire are all amazing and sweet, have great conversations with them when walking into the office for help and always guiding me in the right direction when I need questions answered! This will be our second time coming back and living here at the timber apartments and it always feels like home we are thankful to have a place we can feel happy to create a safe place for ourselves. I moved into the Timbers Apartments a little over a month ago to be a little closer to my gf's job but I am sad to say that in the short amount of time I've been here the negative reviews about this place are true. I am not one to leave comments or reviews since it comes off as whiny but this place needs to get it together. To start it off , apartments and complex look better in pictures. Landscape not that well kept. When we moved in, the apartment was dusty. We had to sweep, clean the windows clean bathroom and kitchen cabinets. It looked like they rushed to paint over all the holes and scratches the previous tenants had left behind. The apartment has 2 wall AC units one in the bedroom and one in the living room that look like they have never been cleaned out or dusted. (More about the AC later). That was already a red flag but we were just happy to have a place as we were tired of looking for apts. I work most days 8am-6pm so outside the office working hours. I was glad to find out they have an after hours answering service but I have called that service 3 times in the last month here and every time they never relay my message what's the point of having it? In the apartment there is a router set up where you can connect to Cox Wifi and it is advertised that the first month would be free if you use their service and get the highest grade monthly package. I signed up for this and still received a bill a couple weeks into living here not even a full month. I paid it as I didn't want the hassle of anything hurting my credit but when I asked an employee at the main office if they would reimburse my expense they said they would get back to me and never have. This was 2 weeks ago. The AC: Our AC in the bedroom went out on Thursday 09/01 the first day we paid rent. The start of the hottest heat wave this year and right before Labor Day. I called the apartments after hours answering service to request a maintenance. I called the next day Friday to check on the request and the woman told me she didn't see any request (of course) but she would have someone check it out. I gave the ok to have someone come in. These small apartments are in East County San Diego so they get hot fast. I called again on Saturday to check if they would be coming this weekend and the lady told me maintenance does not work on the weekend. Since it was Labor Day weekend no one would be working until Tuesday. I asked if I got it fixed by someone would they reimburse my expense she said no and that I have one working AC so it's not an emergency. Keep in mind these apartments are set up where the AC in the living room does not reach the back of the apartment where the rooms are and the reason the rooms have their own AC unit. I had asked if I could be notified when someone would be able to check it out and they basically said it will happen when it happens as they don't keep track to see what maintenances have been completed. Very unprofessional and unorganized. Either way they stated they will have someone follow up on Tuesday.Never heard anything on Tuesday I called in on Wednesday to check status they said they would have someone come Thursday. No show. They called me on Friday 09/09 while I was at work to tell me they had an emergency so they will get it taken care of before the end of the day. Today is Sat 09/10 still no AC and this time no update or excuse why they couldn't make it. Very irritating to deal with these kinds of issues so early into a new lease and hard to get a hold of the office as I work outside of their operating hours. The lack of professionalism and communication is clear here. I am hoping this is helpful to fix the issues. read more

Still have not heard anything from management about what their plan is to help alleviate this 2 1/2 month parking restrictions for us tenants. Yet again we get another notice taped to our door from this Optimum Seismic company. First off, I do not hold a lease with Optimum Seismic company, yet we have to abide by their orders?! Timbers Management let us know how you plan to accommodate your tenants? Secondly, you haven't even sent any notices on your behalf, why is that? Looking forward to your solution. And in my lease it reads the following: VEHICLE PARKING AND LIABILITY Owner/Agent does not insure vehicles of Resident or take on any responsibility for safeguarding Residents vehicle. It is recommended that Residents carry automobile insurance as required by law. There is a speed limit of 5 miles per hour on all driveways. Squealing of tires is prohibited. All vehicles parked on the Property must have Owner/Agent's prior authorization with permit sticker affixed in the lower left corner of the rear window or if rear window is tinted, in the bottom drivers side corner or the windshield. Parking on the Property is at Resident's own risk. Guest parking is not a condition of this Agreement. Vehicles are only permitted to be parked in authorized spaces. No washing or repairing of vehicles may be done on the premises. All vehicles must be in legally operable condition and properly display current, valid license and registration. All vehicles must be parked "head in" only, backing into spaces is not permitted. A vehicle is prohibited on the Property if it (1) has flat tires or other conditions rendering it physically or legally inoperable, (2) has an expired license or inspection sticker, (3) takes up more than one parking space, (4) belongs to a Resident or occupant of a surrendered or abandoned apartment unit, (5) is parked in a marked handicapped space without the legally required handicapped placard or vehicle license, (6) blocks another vehicle from exiting, (7) is parked in a fire lane or designated "No Parking" area, (8) is parked in a space assigned "For Other Resident(s)" or "Unit(s)" (9) is parked on the grass, sidewalk or patio, (10) blocks garbage trucks from access to dumpster, (11) is leaking fluids. Resident will be charged for clean-up and damage. All vehicles in violation of the rules will be towed without notice in compliance with California Vehicle Code at the vehicle owner's expense. Owner/Agent assumes no liability to damage of vehicle, loss of use or cost of recovery. Use of parking lots is by permit only. A valid original permit must be displayed at all times while parked on community property. Permits may not be duplicated in any manner. Availability of parking varies, no guarantee of availability is made. Permits are limited to one per bedroom. Let me repeat your phrase "All vehicles in violation of the rules will be towed without notice in compliance with California Vehicle Code at the vehicle owner's expense." No where does it say that I need to remove my vehicle during construction or it will be towed. This is beyond ridiculous and I hope you tow peoples vehicles and are also ready to meet in court. Timbers Apartments - No parking accommodations for 2 1/2 months - Apartments Near Me - El Cajon, California

Timbers apartment are okay inside and quiet but they shut down the water like 2 or 3 times every single month and they charger for everything like your living in a home (sewer, water , trash and gas) so you end up paying like a house payment ( with this coronavirus is even more crazy we have to stay home and now they closed the laundry room even though laundry room is very important to us . We gotta keep our clothes clean more than ever. I don't recommend this place at all. laundry room has to be open ASAP WE ALMOST ON STAGE 3 everything is opening and they haven't even opened the laundry room at timber apartments. read more

I absolutely HATEE THAT I MOVED HERE ! They didn't let my roommate see the apartment untill the day he signed the lease ! THEN the walls are SOOO thin and windows are old and cheap and you hear everyone's conversation that it feels like it's right in the next room. The laundry room sucks 3 out of 5 washers are currently filled with dirty water ! Andddd every month at LEAST twice they turn off the water from 10 am -5 pm Because "plumbing work" I know it's to save money !!! They told us that there was a plumbing problem that's why.... But why every month they have to continue to turn off the water ? . They try to regulate inside of your home as well, Claire , the super red manager is rude &&& despicable. She has no respect for even simple questions you have regarding anything !!! no etiquette when speaking with you , It's like the energy of a miserable life.Everything you do will be a problem ! The apartments are build so cheaply , new appliances my ass !!! They are cheappp new appliances I call the maintenance man every other day! The ONLY positive thing about here is the response of maintenance request ..... that's it. I promise you , You wouldn't want to live here . It's over priced for a whole bunch of bs ! I have been here at the Timbers for about 2 years since I moved in Claire has been nothing but helpful to me with anything I am needing assistance with. They make sure they accommodate to ensure you get the best. Ever since I moved here they have been quick and responsive down to the little things even with maintenance they are always so quick and responsive and you really never have to wait. I always say you can live anymore but this is where it feels like home. I wouldn't trade the Timbers for anything thank you guys for always being so supportive and willing and always ensure your tenants are well taken care of. You all are appreciated even Glen! if I could give ZERO stars I would. stay away from these apartments, they have people here smoking weed on the balcony, one tenant has a crazy baby daddy who yells at the maintenance, she also wrote FAKE letters to the manager to get other tenants out that the MANAGER ask her to, the manager has favoritism and allows her to pay her rent late. don't get me started on how this girls son was left alone while the tenant was out of town and rather the manager calling cps to help the son she allows it. she also lets her use a fake social to rent. do not rent here, you will be out out so quick by the manager! read more

We've lived here for going on year number 3!! Glenn and Claire are the best!!! They always go above and beyond to make sure the residents are happy!! Even the maintenance staff is amazing and friendly. It's great to live somewhere so conveniently located to retail shops and restaurants and to live somewhere that makes their residents feel valued. We really appreciate how much effort they put in to keep the grounds attractive and the pools clean. They have closed their pool, and hot tub due to COVID-19, Which is completely understandable, But they also closed the laundry room. They stated that it was because they could not clean it after every use, which makes no sense because individuals could just clean before and after every use. They told us we could instead use the laundromat down the street. The best part is that even though they took our amenities away, they said they will not be changing the rent price. Glad we cant due laundry but you will still charge us the same rent when no one is working. read more

This place isn't convenient at all the have the machine to reload the washer and dryers in the leasing office and after 5 when people get off work they have no access for it if that is the cause why not switch out the machines so you can use the Bluetooth enabled washer and dryers like the other apartment complexes in San Diego. Lived here for 5 years and loved it. We had really good neighbors and the place was quiet at night. We had a few maintance calls but the guys were in out apartment with in one or two business days. The pool was cleaned 5 days a week and someone cleaned the laundry on the weekends. The only downside was that during the pandemic the laundry was closed for about 2 months but once they got a system in place they would come and clean 2 times a day. We got 2 parking spots with our apartment and we always had a parking spot available even when we preferred to park on the street. We left for a bigger place but loved all the upgrades we had there. read more

The maintenance guys are kind of awesome. Go hunt them down and play beer pong with them. The hot tub is bomb! The location is pretty sweet. Close the 8 and the 125. Ami Sushi, Subway, Thai Time and Serrano's Super Salsa are all right down the street. The trolley is only a few feet away. The people are all unpretentious, laid back and easy to make friends with. The pool areas are always filled with fun people when the weather is right. Big mix of all types of people The apartments themselves are nothing special but on the plus side they are really laid back about painting so if white walls drive you as nuts as they do me, grab some paint and slap it on the walls. Love the gas stove and the broiler at the bottom is pretty rad for making late night drunken quesadillas. Oddly enough the microwaves in the units are all incredibly powerful so if you do most of your cooking in one like a true bachelor/bachelorette this is an upside. . I have really liked living here. My experience with the Timbers has been a very pleasant one. I'd like to just take a moment to recount my experience to other yelpers who might potentially take a look at the apartment! I'll start by listing the pro's and con's of my first week here and will update it accordingly with any major changes that happen! The Pros: - Great service from the front desk, Cassandra of note is a pleasure to work with and seems to have genuine concern for her renters. The other people working the desk seem nice as well. Cassandra went out of her way to be helpful. -The apartment was in pretty good condition, just a couple of issues (Which I'll elaborate in the cons) however the issues didn't dampen my enthusiasm for the apartment. -The pet deposit is very reasonable which is a breath of fresh air, I will be having my two Persians joining me in a couple of months and the process seems very smooth, will update this more when it happens. -The other apartment goer's seem to be very nice people, they are all quiet and respectful so far. There is always someone using the grill and there are children playing. This is a nice comfortable complex to be in. -The maintenance technician was quick and very efficient, he did a great job on the minor repair necessary around the apartment. -There are TWO ac's in the apartment! One for the bedroom and one for the livingroom and both work well! I was thrilled. The Cons: Note: It's a little rough giving Cons to the place because my experience has been so pleasant but they do detract from the experience and they do need to be made known. -The bedroom windows are pretty thin. One night I heard a loud carousing and discussion coming from outside and I thought I left the window open. I got out of bed to close it only to discover it was closed but I could hear their discussion very well (They were in the parking lot and I'm on the second floor) They weren't from the Timbers, they were from the apartment complex next door so not much could be done. Thankfully they quieted down shortly thereafter. Not a huge issue but worth noting. -Minor to moderate apartment issues. The apartment was so fresh and clean smelling and well presented, it was just a shame there were a few little things that needed to be tweaked to really give it five stars. It's doubly a shame because they were all easily fixable. Here are those issues: No caulking around tub spout: Quick fix, I reported it Sunday and it was taken care of Tuesday morning. All it needed was caulking as it was protruding from the wall slightly. The number on my front door was falling off: Quick fix, the screw just needed to be drilled back into the door. Just seemed odd, they were obviously careful and diligent in their cleaning but the number falling off was an odd oversight. The deadbolt wouldn't latch reliably: This one was a little tricky, upon moving in I couldn't reliably lock my front door. The maintenance tech that responded said it was due to the door swelling and he removed a small strikeplate revealing a wider strikeplate beneath it on the door frame. With the wider strikeplate I've been able to lock my front door much more easily but it was definitely a noticeable problem and it made the first couple days there a bit awkward (I moved in Sunday evening, it was fixed Tuesday morning) This one was the one that ultimately took off a star because I would struggle for over 5 minutes to try to lock my door. I would have to thread the deadbolt into the strikeplate JUST right for two days and sometimes I'd have to just give up because I just couldn't get it in there. Which was a little rough with all my stuff just laying exposed inside. Having said all that, this is a fantastic apartment and I would very highly recommend it. I plan on staying here for a very long time comfortably. The area is fantastic and shows a very pleasant part of El Cajon. It is with a heavy heart that we move out of our lovely little apartment here at the Timbers! We have enjoyed our year here and would love to stay but being closer to a new job calls for us. My husband and I actually found this place while looking at the neighboring Forest Park, which was over our budget so we passed on it. We just walked into the leasing office to see if they had any availabilities and Cassandra took us right away to see their model unit. Even though the unit we actually applied for was different (the split level one, which we liked even more because of how much living room space it seemed we got) we were sold on the price. We don't need much to be happy, so this place was just right for us! Laundry: There's a laundry room in the middle of each complex, so it's not a hassle to do laundry. The only issue we came across was that you could only reload your laundry card at the leasing office, which can be annoying if you run out of money on the weekend or after the office closes. We just avoided this but putting a lot of money on our card when we could. Parking: You get a permit for the lot and you can also choose to rent a carport and storage for an extra $35 a month. We chose this option just because it's a guaranteed parking spot, but it wasn't usually a problem finding a spot. There was also street parking nearby, and our visitors always found a spot with no problem. Our new apartment that we're moving to isn't going to be this abundant in spots, so we'll miss this so much. Pools: Surprisingly, I've never been in the pool, but I can hear people having little BBQs and get togethers. They sound like they're having fun! Maintenance: Man, I love the maintenance guys. You can put in your request online and I swear I've never waited more than two days for someone to come by and fix my microwave, my toilet, my blinds, etc. They're very nice and friendly, never making me uncomfortable when they're fixing things (hah). We've never had issues with bugs, just ants that we took care of ourselves and weren't even a big deal. The unit itself was clean when we moved in, so everything from then on is based on how you take care of it. It's also located right near a trolley stop, bowling alley/billiards, it's across of Parkway Plaza (mall, Walmart, restaurants, Crunch Fitness), and Hillside Rec Center at the top of the "hill" is a Pokestop :) Now, we had just moved from Hawaii and didn't have our bearings of San Diego yet, so we had no clue how hot it would get in El Cajon. That was pretty much our only concern living here. Oh, they also raised the rent quite a bit, so even if we wanted to stay we couldn't afford it. Other than that, this place was good to us and we'll miss it so much. read more

I would never recommend Timbers to anyone. I was so excited to move here and was happy for the first couple of months. Then, I discovered the office staff does not take tenant concerns seriously, even if they include death threats by neighbors against your child. They have never come out of their little office to actually talk to their residents in order to resolve issues. Instead, they take one person's word over the other and serve them with a warning. The rules are not enforced equally for everyone. After talking to a few of my neighbors over the last year and a half, I have found this to be true with almost everyone. The maintenance staff will use the cheapest methods possible to 'fix' anything. One of my 'favorites' is that they wouldn't fix a broken drawer the right way by replacing the missing slide bar underneath. Instead they rubbed candle wax on the sides to make it slide better and told me to call them if it starts sticking again. I just gave up on it. I asked them to fix the window screen because the heavy winds had pulled it loose. They just pushed it back in and it came out almost immediately. My kitty got out that night through the hole, got hit by a car and killed. Do not move here. Find a place where the managers are on-site and take an active role in handling tenant problems. read more

I've been here for a year now. I really do love it here. The maintenance guys are always hard at work keeping the place looking nice. I love, LOVE the floor plan and this was the only place I could find that was affordable (that allowed dogs), with all of it's amenities (pool, laundry, etc) and did not charge pet rent for my doggies. The staff is friendly, the residents are friendly, yet stay out of your business. Location is great too, around the corner from the mall, stores, yet the logistics keeps the traffic away. And there's a park across the street! I didn't give a full 5 stars because the inside could use a little updating. read more
