Cool calm setting, there was a live band while i was there. Kitchen was still open @ 1am when we got there, which apparently is rare in PA. The bartender told us we didn't need extra French fries because the sandwich that we ordered came with enough.... i wish i believed her! Lol so. Many. Fries. My favorite cocktail to order at any cocktail bar is a penicillin.... most times i have to tell the bartender what's in the cocktail which defers me from wanting it any more but here @ time my bartender knew exactly what it was. Must say. Got there right at 5 when they open. We were greeted and treated V nicely. Wish I got server name but she was great. The "pulled pork" sandwich - which I would never call it. - was one of the best I ever had in this city and I am an Italian American from S Philly so I know this stuff! Date nights during restaurant week are my favorite nights and favorite reviews! This gives me the opportunity to see how well a restaurant does when it's busy; do they lose quality or do they still show up and out? For all of my restaurant week reviews I'll break them down into four key categories: service, food, ambiance/decor, and cleanliness. Service. We made a reservation through Opentable & were seated promptly. We did however wait a while for our actual server. You don't really notice the time in service because of the great music playing. Our actual server was amazing. They were quick and attentive. There was a minor mishap with our order, they fixed it quickly, and kept apologizing even though there was no need. They really were great! Food. Let me say this Time is a Jazz lounge so my natural thought upon arrival was that the food would be just ok. I was surprisingly wrong. The hors d'oeuvres I almost forgot them in the review, Im not sure if they were as good as I imagined or if we were hungry from the wait. It was a sad display though. 1 piece of cauliflower, 1 deviled egg, and the worlds smallest crab cake. Legit it was so small they could but it in the Guinness Book of World Records! The butternut squash soup was amazing and I hate soup. My husband had the bacon and roasted pear toast, he loved it so much he wanted to order some to go. The second course was their daily preparation of risotto and it was terrible. I've had better risotto from the freezer section at Trader Joe's. For the third course we had the smoked beef brisket and the seared Atlantic salmon both of which were very flavorful and delicious. For dessert we had the warm bread pudding and the chocolate pot de creme. The bread pudding was absolutely amazing. The chocolate pot de creme was basically chocolate mousse which was underwhelming. If I wanted that I would have went to a buffet. Ambiance/Decor. It's a freaking jazz lounge! The music instantly makes up for anything it may be lacking. The space is dimly lit with tea lights at all of the tables. There is black and white photography of the city. It's the perfect place for a date night. Cleanliness. I know a lot of restaurants do this but I absolutely hate when silverware is put directly on to the table. Aesthetically I get it but I just don't want to put something in my mouth that sat on the table. Not when you use the same rag to clean tables all night. Now on to the women's bathroom. I'm not sure if this place is considered to be more like a bar than a restaurant/lounge but the bathroom is reminiscent of a dive bar. It's dimly lit which fits the mood of the entire space but it's dated and it was not clean at all. Overall I give Time 4 out of 5 stars. I probably would revisit again for drinks and the music for sure. read more

I've been to Time twice in recent times now -- first for Erin C.'s UYE in September, and then last night. For both visits, I had the gin cocktail, which is really-really potent. Also tried some whiskey during the first visit, since it's a whiskey bar and what-not. In terms of food, I probably wouldn't recommend the fried chicken sandwich. There wasn't much in way of flavor. The fries were good, though, and what you'd expect from a bar. An hour after arriving, we headed out since it was becoming a sardine-land. I really, really do not enjoy feeling like it's hard to breathe in a bar. When we exited, there was a line down the street! I'd recommend for drinks and earlier stops in the night; not so much for food or late nights. read more

Pretentious, snobby bartenders. A very poor experience. We went in for a drink and the bartender acted like we were bothering her. She waited on others and paid very little attention to us. She never came to ask us if we wanted another drink or to check on us. Very young crowd served by a pretentious bar staff. It's too bad because the jazz was nice. If you are over 40, I suggest you stay away unless you want to be treated poorly. Definitely will not be back. read more

Idk fool me once shame on me fool me twice you're playing with me. I usually love time and I'm a huge fan, but idk what was up yesterday. Came here on a date to eat and listen to jazz. Idk if the waitress didn't like us, the bartender didn't like us or both. All the drinks I ordered were terrible. And I know that's a human error cause I was there last weekend drinking on the full bar side. I get a spicy Margarita that is for some reason cherry flavored? I thought a spicy margarita would be like a regular margarita with spice but I guess I should not have assumed. Since I hated it I ordered a Paloma next. There wasn't a drop of grapefruit in the drink? It tasted like a tequila soda and some sort of citrus. So I asked for something I had drank there before which was the espresso martini, which I had last week. She brings out a cup of baileys?!? Please see above drink and no that's not the foam it's the whole drink being this colour and the lack of espresso beans. I asked the waitress why and she lied to my face which.... Really? I used to serve if someone complains just remake it? Also all the things she listed (vodka, kalua, and baileys?!?!) went into a White Russian and not an espresso martini which is what this looked like and what I think is crazy nasty I hate milk/ dairy. Since she basically lied to my face saying that the girl next to me "probably got it made different" when I pointed out how she got the same thing and it's why they looked so diff. I didn't say anything especially since I was on a date and I didn't want to be that girl. Idk that was weird TIME cause again I just don't understand why the waitress had to lie to about the drink. Time and time again, you won't be disappointed. First Floor: Whiskey bar, restaurant, live music (every night, typically Jazz). It's oddly satisfying to find a happy hour, let alone on a Sunday. 32 bottled beers, 20 draft selections, 3 full pages of whiskey, and did someone say Absinthe? Second Floor: Pretty open dance area with DJ This is one of the few places you'll find with Absinthe. Let's not even question whether you should order it. This is a definitive spot to hit in Philly. On top of that it's on Sansom St. or food heaven. FYI: This place does usually have a cover and can get quite packed but the eclectic people you'll meet along the way will take your mind off of that. read more

This place is a good vibe. I was in town for work and just wanted to venture out to see a little bit of the city solo dolo on a Wednesday. I didn't eat, but I told the bartender to "surprise me" and he didn't disappoint. Laid back venue, dim lighting, and the music was smoother than silk dipped in baby oil. Our last night in Philadelphia and we were about to go to sleep, in pj's, and we were still revelling in how cool this city has been. Then I was struck by the craving for some chill, live music. One last evening hurrah. Why not? So we did a quick search and saw that this place might have what we were looking for! We threw on pants and set off. Time was just around the corner so the walk was short and sweet. As we entered, we were excited because we were met with the sounds of an awesome band playing some reggae-jazz combo and having a great time. We grabbed a table, relaxed, and enjoyed the ambiance. This is an awesome space. Just enough decor to give it personality without being overwhelming. The band playing was called Trombo Piccolo, and they were awesome. Very nice and down-to-earth with impressive keyboarding, bass, and drumming. In addition, there were some tasty-looking food options on the menu (although we had already eaten and were still too full). Definitely worth it for some music! read more

TIME is one of my favorite spots in Center City. They have excellent LIVE jazz downstairs every evening. The atmosphere is dark and lit by candlelight. It's a great place to bring a date, or a group looking to have some cocktails and dinner. The crowd here is well dressed and I would say late 20's and older. The bar menu is always a winner, with dishes around $10. The dinner menu is a little pricier, with entrees about $18. In another room downstairs you find yourself in a completely different environment. This is a more casual crowd. Having drinks and sitting around listening to music. Finally, you make your way upstairs. Where you find a dance party happening. Everyone is dancing and having a great time. I like to start downstairs and have a light bite (the mussels are excellent) and than head upstairs for another drink and some dancing. I always have an amazing TIME at TIME! read more

I visited this place 4 times during the summer. Each time I had a chance to explore different section of this venue. First two times I was upstairs attending an event. Third time I was in a main bar downstairs enjoying live music and last time I went to the smaller bar also located on a main level. Each section has its own bar and is quite different. Honestly I had a feeling I visited 3 different bars. One thing that connects them all is great food menu and excellent service. They offer happy hour specials which I hope they expand even more in the future. Very nice spot downtown. read more

Loved this place until I got the bill. Bartender shmoozed us, and he was damn good at it, by making a "special" drink for my daughter, then charged us 16 bucks for it. Then, we were slapped with a $5 "live music fee" for each of us. In short, three casual drinks ended up being $53. the messed up thing is I would have tipped this personable young man and the killer jazz trio quite well, and probably spent the same or more without feeling like I was just raped. But not after that bullshit. I am both a musician who works for tips and have been a bartender for many years. What's unfortunate is this takes money out of their pockets when an establishment does this kind of shady shit. find a better place to have your drinks. read more

I stopped by on a Saturday night for one of PaperStreet's parties upstairs in the Absinthe Lounge (totally worth it to check out DJ's Brendan Bring'em & The Rub's DJ Ayres). On the upside: I liked the decor a lot; I especially appreciated the stark white exposed brick wall that displayed projections. The dance floor was energetic but not "I'm gonna get crabs from this guy next to me" packed, and I always appreciate that. The woman at the door was quite nice (those PaperStreet kids always are) and the crowd was diverse, stylish and in good spirits. So that's cool. But the bar was crazy and I heard a few folks TIME-ing how long they had been waiting for their drinks (one dude said 30 minutes but who knows. Maybe he had absinthe, which makes seconds feel like an eternity, and only thought he had waited 30 minutes, when in reality he hadn't even placed his order yet). The only other negative was the couple who decided to go for it in plain sight of everyone in attendance. Seriously, they might have made a baby like, 3 feet away from me. That's kinda gross. l may not have made many of the classes at LaSalle during my one year stint there, but I always tried to attend all the basement parties, so the upstairs of Time brought back quite a lot of happy memories for me. Sweaty sorority sisters dancing, groping, and falling.... a DJ mixing the hot jams (except for those four times he forgot to cue up the next track).... me switching drinks twice because ol' alchy emmett drank them out of their reserves (I just can't get enough of that grape vodka).... and that awesome 1:30 ugly lights-dance off/ hookup scramble. I felt like an Explorer all over again, but had the added enjoyment of no TKE or FIJI guys trying to beat me up. Didn't spend much time downstairs because the lady birthday party I was out for all brought their dancing shoes, but the live band was playing some real chill music the couple of times I cruised in for a pint (only a limited variety of generic bottles upstairs. Oddly though, they did have Lionshead). The feel I got from it was that, just like when it was Ludwig's, I would seriously enjoy the whole scene. I miss the frauleins in their Pauli's getup, but Time is still a solid bar. read more

Dave H. Birthday Bar Crawl review time! what can I say, when the legend has a gathering you have to come out in spades and have a good time. And even though I had a big Easter ahead of me the next day, and I had another group of friends calling my name onward to another gathering (McThrill's a busy guy who know's his people, but you probably know that by now.), that's exactly what I decided to do for the start of the crawl. And while I could certainly give the group of incredible people that I was with 500 stars, Time itself is going to fall a little flat at 3. So walking in and seeing servers dressed in black in place of female servers who used to be dressed like St. Pauli Girl knock offs instantly made the place feel like a bizzaro world! But that's what isn't knocking down the rating since I considered the uniform to be an improvement. But with the exception of the Uniforms, Time was the spot that felt a little more gimmicky. Grant it Ludwig's was the place that touted itself as being a German style beer heaven that offered things like bratwurst on the menu. But it also delivered on that promise pretty smoothly. Time centers itself on being a lounge atmosphere that specializes in beer, whiskey, and absinthe. While it offering Hoegaarden at $5 a pint was fair, the rest of the draft suggestion was an overpriced joke and most of the beers that clocked in at $6-8 weren't that worth it (comparing to places like P.O.P.E. and Monk's). While the Whiskey menu was somewhat solid I've definitely seen better. and while the absinthe lounge definitely intrigued me to the point that it is something that I intend to try when Time isn't the first stop on a bar tour, I have heard mixed things about it. The menu also touted a $13 burger and tapas sized portions that would have been better if they weren't tapas sized. While Time definitely did have it's appealing things like great service, live music, and some particularly interesting sounding things from the in depth listing I gave above, there is one clear bottom line that I couldn't help but feel. It tries to specialize itself in so much to the point that it just falls flat on most of them. If it kept the Absinthe lounge as an upstairs special, improved the beer list and food menu at least by portion, and made the premium spirits a little more well rounded then the place could flourish! until then it's just decent. read more

Amazing food. Amazing. The duck was perfect. It's one of the better meals I've had in Philly. The chocolate dessert was delicious as well. The drinks however......their winter spritz cocktail was heavy on the ice and their double espresso was more like weak regular coffee. It didn't have the consistency or taste of espresso. The live band was enjoyable with relaxing music and the atmosphere was calm and peaceful with low lighting and candlelight. It was very welcoming after an extremely busy week. This was the perfect place to end my time in Philadelphia. I would definitely go back, but with a different cocktail plan and skip the espresso. The drinks brought the meal down but I don't want to take away from how good the food was. The food is worth going for. It was a wonderful place. read more

Time is a decent fallback spot in Center City when options are up in the air. Everyone should find something to like, mainly due to the arrangement of the space. Three bar spaces punctuate Time, 2 downstairs and 1 up. The room on your right upon entering reminds me of a classy sports/whiskey bar in its arrangement and ambiance (loud and boisterous, dark woods). The room on the left's atmosphere is more relaxed, akin to a jazz lounge. It's a chill space and my favorite of the three, but also the hardest to snag a seat. Finally, the loud upstairs fulfills the role of club with a dance floor, huge crowds, and epileptic lighting. Best avoided unless you want to dance and are into that sort of thing. Time would be a solid four stars if not for the service and prices. Time advertises itself as a whisky bar, so I expect the waiters to give me something other than a comatose stare when I ask for a recommendation on a bourbon. I'm no expert on whisky, but I could've guided a patron through the long whisky list with more than a shoulder shrug. Also, everything is priced a few bucks more than it needs to be (except the beers, they have a respectable, reasonably priced tap list). There's no reason a Maker's Mark rocks should be above $10 at this type of joint, and I shouldn't have to pay cover (even if it's only $5) for the privilege of ordering it. I can't comment on the food, but as far as bars in Center City go, you can do much worse than Time. You'll get the ambiance you want in one of the three rooms, but prepared to shell out a tidy sum for it. read more

Service was good but their food was just ok. We had arrived during their happy hour. They have a HH bar menu that included about 8 items. I went with a burger that included fries. The burger had house made bacon, jack cheese and caramelized onions. It was eh. I don't know if it was the bun or the burger but it was just dry. Fries were just ok as well but nothing spectacular. They did have nice house musicians that played at a low level. It made for great dinner music. It was a nice compliment to the cozy ambiance the restaurant was going for. I didn't have any complaints about the service. He was also the bartender and did a great job balancing both areas. I wouldn't rule it out to visit again. I can only comment on the nightlife here. I came here on a Saturday around 10:30pm 1) Long line- moved relatively fast 2) $5 cover Most places in philly don't have cover unless it's a club or edm place so I was a little confused. It is PACKED in here. I like the 2nd floor- more top 40/edm music. It is pretty hard to get a drink here because it is so packed. I ordered a grey goose shot ($10). I gave the bartender a 20 and he never gave me change.... I probably wouldn't come back because of the overall experience I had. read more
