Almost missed this place as we walked by but the owner was outside and we struck up a conversation. He convinced us we would have a great meal and he sure was right. We sat at the bar and was promptly greeted. We ordered the mozzarella sticks for appetizers (10/10), cheeseburger with fries (9/10) and the steak sandwich (8.5/10). Stopped in for happy hour. Great service & food. Calamari was perfectly breaded & tender. Mussels in white wine was a very plentiful portion & full of flavor. Crab cake had a wonderful sear to give it just the right amount of crunch. Served with an avocado, puree, remoulade sauce & Pico di gallo. Loved the pierogis! They were a lighter dough with a smooth almost creamy potato filling & again a perfect sear. Atmosphere is that of a sports bar with tons of Philadelphia sports memorabilia. A quirky addition that I absolutely loved was the red light, green light from the ceiling by the bathroom telling you if they were occupied. Was not expecting this place to have one of the best happy hours in philly? Randomly decided to go here bc it's one of the only places in center city that offers HH until 7pm. There was no wait and we snagged one of the seats outside. Got the calamari which was crispy and came with a great sweet/sour dipping sauce, crab cakes which were refreshing and my personal fav, and mozz stix which had a great cheese pull. The only let down were the mussels which claimed to come in a spicy red sauce, but there was no heat unfort. Regardless, for the price, you got a generous portion of everything. I've walked by this place countless times and have never stopped in until my daughter recommended it. She didn't need to do very much persuading when she mentioned a Sunday happy hour. We ended up here at 5 on a Sunday and I was immediately drawn in. I love a real "Philly" bar and that is this one. And by that I mean, if you've lived here forever (like me) or are visiting, you will get the Philly essence by being here. The crowd is diverse, the bars walls are covered in Philly memorabilia and the bar food is exactly how it should be. We ordered chicken tenders, hot wings and shrimp cocktail off of the happy hour menu. The prices were definitely happy hour prices and the food was good! Really good wings and the shrimp was so fresh! I ordered my first cocktail from the happy hour menu which was the well-cocktail for seven bucks but then switched to the $13 old fashioned which is still a good deal on a cocktail in Philly. We frequent this spot for its laid back ambiance, central location, and happy hour that lasts until 7pm - a little longer than some other bars in the area. They have a decent drink selection and happy hour menu with some food as well. Well drinks are $7 during happy hour. Service was fine. I had a great experience here. For one, the service was awesome, our sever was very friendly and helpful. I love the Philadelphia memorabilia all throughout the bar. Thats a cool touch. As far as the food and drinks go, I was very pleased. It was late night, so I ordered some chicken tenders and fries along with an espresso martini. My boyfriend ordered a short rim sandwich. Such a fun bar! I stayed at a hotel around the corner and they were giving out vouchers for a buy one get one free deal. My friend and I were able to get drinks after checking in and before exploring the area for the night. The service was great and the bartenders were super nice. I would say, though, this spot isn't super large group friendly as it's pretty small. We sat in three areas, but the staff was VERY accommodating which was nice. As the only menu was shared, people in the party were a little disappoint to see the pricing is higher than the website. The food was pretty good as far as bar food goes. The wings were crispy, and the mac and cheese was cheesy. The pirogies were forgettable, and the fried pickles weren't coined which was odd. IMO the mixed drinks were 100% not worth it. The glasses are so small, and they have so much ice. Go for a glass of wine instead. Overall, I'm pleased I went here. I'm in no rush to come back, but I would if someone else chose it. read more

Stopped in for a late lunch early dinner after seeing the loin king at the academy of music as it was a short walk from the theater. Loved the walls covered in photos and painting of Philadelphia. The place was very clean including the bathroom. The drinks were made very well and the margarita was one of the best I've had. I ordered the filet tip sandwich which was very tasty. I added some fried onions as nothing goes better with steak then fried onions. There was a lot of meat on my sandwich. My table guests ordered the T.E.D (thanksgiving every day) which was also a generous portion. The crab cake sandwich and bowl of mussels in white. This place is the go to place if you want late night food on a week night in downtown Philly. We got our food pretty quickly. I ordered a Caesar Chicken salad which was very delicious. I've been to 1518 Bar & Grill twice. Once for Happy Hour, and I was happy to find they have an extensive happy hour menu. All the cocktails I ordered were well made on both visits, and well drinks are discounted during happy hour. On their web site they have the statement "not your typical bar food". But based on my visits you are better off sticking to the typical bar food. The food is a mixed bag. The meatballs are my favorite menu item, juicy and delicious. The meatballs are closely followed by the BBQ wings. After that there is a drop off. The mac & cheese is just OK. It's not the same cheesy deliciousness you would find at a soul food spot. The perogies were flavorless. Service is a mixed bag as well. Depending on who your server is, you can get service with a smile or service with a scowl. The décor has so much going on that I can't even describe it. You will have to check out my pictures. Although my feelings are mixed, I would probably go back to 1518 Bar & Grill to watch a game, while ordering meatballs, wings and drinks. read more

I love this place. I've been going for about 10 years. Very generous pour of wine during happy hour. The food is delicious. The Mac and cheese is perfect. The owner treats you as if you are a guest in his home. Generous portions. The bathrooms are very clean. The environment is a fun inclusive environment. I was there during sips. Someone was there for a birthday celebration. The entire bar sang happy birthday. There is a mix of ages. They were able to accommodate a large group last minute during the pandemic. We were turned away from places for not having vaccination cards. The cards were not officially in force yet so we didn't have our cards on our person. Very accommodating. Honestly so let down at the quality of the food we just got. Ordered through grubhub after reading so many great reviews. Got the steak tips sandwich which from review pics looked amazing. Received something entirely different - 3 massive chunks of steak on a soaking wet crumbling potato bun. Picked it up to take my first bite and it literally fell apart all over me. We also ordered the Thanksgiving sandwich which we were SO excited for and all you can taste is rosemary and nothing else. But at least that was served on the right bread I guess idk. I go to Philly yearly to see friends and family's and I always go to try new places. This time around a friend of mine came down with me since he's never been and while walking around we decided to give this Place a shot! It was worth every penny. We happened to be walking by, while looking for a place to grab some dinner after the Christmas Tree lighting. 1518 Bar and Grill was full of people and festively decorated for the holidays. We walked in and were immediately seated at a high top. The place is small and the same waiter was seating people, taking orders, and serving the food. He was doing a pretty swift job juggling all these tasks. We ordered the 1518 Burger and Heavens Garden (sandwich with grilled zucchini, eggplant, peppers, tomato confit, melted swiss). The burgers and sandwiches come with the option of salad or french fries. We opted for the salad and both our meals were delicious. I would order the Heaven's Garden again in a heartbeat. Staff and even other customers at the bar were very friendly. (I think they have a steady stream of regulars) Drinks were good, and ended up ordering the pork tenderloin and I loved it.
