The staff and Dr. Timm were very kind and considerate. We were set to leave town but realized last minute that my cat needed to be seen by someone the day before. I called five Veterinary offices and none could see my cat the same day. My husband found the Dixon clinic, called, and told them our story. The receptionist asked him to hold to ask the doctor if he could fit him in. She came back on the line and asked if we could be there soon he could be seen. 40 minutes later we were there. A very thorough exam was completed by the good doc. We were given antibiotics, some suggestions, and asked to return following the course of treatment. I could not have asked for better care and the fact that we were allowed to come at the last minute (new patients, mind you) was such a relief. This is not to mention that I was surprised the fee was lower than I expected. Thank you to the doc and kind staff!

My dog, Sully, is a sweet, gentle boy who has been through a lot. He's behind on two vaccines because of financial hardship, but he is vaccinated for rabies and we've always done the best we can for him. He was also traumatized by a previous groomer who cut his nails too short and made him bleed, so he's understandably nervous around clippers and certain handling. We arrived at this new vet hopeful and in good spirits. The clinic is in the middle of farm fields, but the receptionist was kind and welcoming. Sully was calm at first. Then things went downhill fast. A nurse and a trainee came in. The trainee attempted to take Sully's temperature with an ear device she clearly did not know how to use. It kept beeping loudly in his ear, and she tugged his ear when he flinched. She even had to ask the other nurse how to change the settings. At that point, Sully no longer trusted her -- and honestly, neither did we. When they tried to take his temperature rectally, he growled out of fear. Instead of adjusting their approach, they pushed forward. Then the doctor came in. Her greeting felt forced and overly high‑pitched. She tried giving Sully treats and even handed treats to the assistant to "gain his trust," but the damage was already done. When she tried to take his temperature and he growled again, she made a comment like "Oh, he's a mama's boy," which did not feel like a joke -- it felt dismissive. When he growled a second time, she threw her hands up and said loudly, "I cannot work like this!" with her eyes closed, as if she was barely holding herself together. It was unprofessional and honestly shocking. They took him to another room with a window so we could watch, and gave him his two overdue vaccines. Then the doctor insisted he needed to be sedated for a nail trim because "he relies on you too much." When we declined due to cost, she asked "Why not?" in a rude tone. We explained we couldn't afford it, and she acted annoyed. She told the receptionist to give us a "discount" and a price breakdown, but the total was still far more expensive than any vet we've ever been to. My mom and I debated whether to continue or leave. We decided to just get the two basic shots and go. The doctor didn't say goodbye, didn't reassure Sully, didn't reassure us -- nothing. Just walked out. The entire experience felt rude, careless, and borderline cruel. The assistant did not seem trained or confident enough to be handling animals, and the doctor seemed impatient, judgmental, and overwhelmed by a dog simply expressing fear. We left shaken, upset, and honestly heartbroken for Sully. I will never return, and I hope this review helps other pet owners avoid the same experience.

TLDR: Seem to have a business plan of hiring new veterinarians to save on labor costs without…read moreproviding vital oversight, support, or mentorship, leading to extremely dangerous care choices. This practice burns out young veterinarians, sets them up for failure, and harms patients. I took my animals to this practice 2020-2023. Over that time I noticed a lot of staff turnover and unhappy techs. At a veterinary practice happy employees usually means high quality care. Workers can seldom do their best under harsh labor conditions. Dr Phillips helped initially when my puppy started displaying consistent aggression that did not respond to training, management, sleep schedule changes, exercise changes, or redirection. She prescribed fluoxetine (which takes 6-10 weeks to kick in), and clonidine (a fast-acting med). When the clonidine peaked, my puppy could exist without profound inescapable terror for roughly an hour before once again becoming panicked and impossible to sooth. I requested more frequent clonidine so that both my dog and I could have a more reasonable quality of life while we waited 6 weeks for her UC Davis Veterinary Behavior appointment. Although Dr Phillips has no behavior certifications beyond "fear free", she reviewed a few short videos of my puppy and confidently declared that my dog was "displaying mostly normal puppy behavior" and that "sometimes, as owners, we unintentionally encourage bad behavior." She pronounced my dog's body language to be "loose", ignoring her unmistakable whale eyes and tight face. Dr Phillips knew I had significant experience raising retriever puppies. She knew this dog's highly skilled training team was out of ideas. Yet, Dr Phillips knew more about my puppy's state of mind from a few short videos than either me or her training team knew from countless hours of direct care. Dr Phillips decided I caused these problems because I would rather sedate my "mostly normal" puppy than practice basic training and management. After deciding my puppy's fear and aggression were simply handler error, Dr Phillips not only declined to increase her clonidine dose, but declined to refill it at all. I had three doses left of the only thing that made it possible to safely interact with my dog. But Dr Phillips had completed a few rotations with veterinary behaviorists during vet school (which she referred to as "a lot of training") and she thought it was appropriate to allow my puppy to experience extreme panic 24/7 for the next 6 weeks in case the clonidine "changed her brain chemistry". Never mind the brain chemistry changes that might occur from 6 weeks of extreme prolonged panic. Luckily, a kind soul at another practice had mercy on us and prescribed enough clonidine for us to make it to the veterinary behavior appointment in one piece. The team at UC Davis diagnosed my puppy with generalized anxiety (based in territoriality, fear, overarousal, and resources) and interdog aggression (based in fear). They explained that my puppy's frequent bites were her way of coping with constant panic by redirecting it onto me as her primary caretaker. My puppy was a serious case for her age and would need significant management and medication for the rest of her life, otherwise she would be a danger to me and to the public. They explained that allowing her to panic throughout her puppyhood would have severe consequences for her brain chemistry, and they increased her clonidine dose to protect her from that fate. To be clear: although Dr Phillips put myself, my puppy, and the public in danger with her reckless overconfidence, I do not hold her personally responsible for this mistake. Dr Phillips had been a practicing veterinarian for just over a year at the time and it was clear she had extremely limited mentorship and support. When I later shared my puppy's diagnoses and prognosis with Dr Phillips, I didn't even get a reply. This tells me that this practice doesn't have experienced veterinarians following up on concerning decisions made by new veterinarians. Nobody is walking new veterinarians through reflecting on cases that don't go well, learning from mistakes, or addressing issues that arise with clients who have been with the practice for years. Thanks to the kind veterinarian who took over care urgently without any previous patient relationship, my dog did not seriously injure anyone in the six weeks Dr Phillips wanted her to be functionally unmedicated. But I am extremely concerned that this practice seeks out new veterinarians for cheap labor while ignoring their consequent mentorship responsibility. A less determined dog owner with fewer resources may have accepted Dr Phillips' assessment with potentially disastrous results. If you are considering taking your pet here, proceed with caution.

Where I found them horrible is in their attitude. When my 18 year-old cat was dying I wanted him euthanized. I couldn't tell if he were suffering. At first they wanted to schedule me for two days later (WTF?). Then when they told me the price, I told them I could pay more than half, but I'd have to pay the balance *four* days later. The phone receptionist went into "All fees must be paid at the time of service" robot mode. She suggested I start calling around to see if someone else could help me. I don't know if it was the same woman, but one time before the lady answering the phone was kind of snippy. Some people shouldn't be allowed to be on the phone with human beings. My cat? A few hours later he died *writhing* in my arms. I will never, ever, ever forgive them for that. They made a really bad day into the most horrible day in my life--all because they wouldn't wait a couple of days for 60 bucks. I might point out that I had paid them more than $800 over the previous year and a half with no trouble, but suddenly they were treating me like a panhandler out of the gutter. They are good at cat medicine, but absolutely rubbish at dealing with people.. These guys completely blew it. Keep looking.

We had been previously quoted $500.

My local vet…read morereferred us there and had called ahead, so they were expecting us and had 2+ hours notice we were coming. (6PM arrival) Fast forward another 4+ hours to 10:30 PM. We finally get to talk to a resident, Dr. Olivia Taubenfeld, who tells me she doesn't think it's a degloving injury - without even examining him yet. I tell her I don't what that is, but describe seeing exposed tendons, ligaments, and possibly bone (which is also what I described when admitting him hours before.) Another 2+ hours go by and they finally examine him. (1AM) Dr. Taubenfeld's report? Degloving injury. Had anyone bothered to look under the temporary bandage put on by the first local vet, or even listened to my description of his wound, they would have seen and understood the severity of the injury. Now they're recommending amputation and treatment options have changed drastically because they neglected seeing him for so long. After getting a second opinion, I decide to pull him out of this hospital so he can get proper care. I'm told they'll do a wound cleaning first thing in the morning. I communicate persistently all day, making sure they're aware of my intention to transfer him that afternoon. I go to pick him up at 4 PM - they haven't cleaned his wound yet. I wait hours, desperate to get him out of there and to a vet who has the capacity to give him proper care and attention. At one point (6 PM) I can hear him crying and whining from behind one of their exam room doors. Apparently, they finally got around to cleaning his wound, only without proper sedation and pain management. Torture. Soon after, they bring him out of that room to me. While I'm carrying him to leave, as soon as we get outside, he starts peeing in my arms. (Sweet boy waited until he was outside.) I place him down, and he stands there peeing for I swear at least one 1 minute. His bladder had to be completely full. Had they even let him relieve himself the 24 hours he was there?! I will never bring another animal here.

Or who knows, probably both. I will be reporting to the veterinary licensing board for malpractice, as he basically sent me home with a dying cat, saying that he was just panting because he was stressed. Even the VET TECH knew that wasn't the case and tried to call him back to look at him, but he insisted that he was just stressed. Two hours later, and my cat takes his final breath. I go to take him back to get him cremated, a little earlier than they opened, because the vet tech specifically told me to do so, but the lady with the dark brown hair and coach glasses gave me the nastiest look and rolled her eyes at me, when all she needed to do was open the door and tell me they couldn't help me yet. She should not be anywhere near a business that is required to help people/animals. SHE IS ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTINGLY RUDE AND SHOULD RETIRE. Not one person in there expressed empathy when I brought my dead cat in, literal insanity to me that they chose to be in healthcare. One of the worst days of my life.
