We live in the territory and eat at both the lounge and main restaurant a lot. Also pick up for dinner often. For several years we and friends have relied on the Cobb salad as a mainstay on the menu. I understand seasonal menu changes, but taking this salad choice off the menu was not a good choice. read more

This place is a difficult venue to find! Thank goodness it wasn't snowing, because we woukd have canceled.. So what should have been a 15 minute drive wound up being 38 to 40! Google tends to give you the scenic route. Anyways, Hailey was our server. She was very sweet and attentive. I had a glass of cabernet , private label of the resort. It was just ok... We both had the Italian sausage and corn chowder soup. It was FANTASTIC!! A nice zip of spice.. Next, our entrees. My husband went with the salmon with mashed sweet potatoes and acorn squash. He said the sweet potatoes were better than the salmon. I had the cheapest cut of filet ever! I've had a better one from JEWEL! It was flat and bland.. I had the red potatoes and asparagus. All in all, I would not go out of my way to have dinner here again...nothing worth the drive. read more

I figured I'd write a separate review for the Eagle Ridge Resort's main restaurant! I was happy to get off the waitlist here for a Thanksgiving buffet (early) dinner. It was a bit tricky, since I had to call a few times because they seemingly forgot to call me back to update me when they said they would. I was then passed around to different people after being told that one specific person was taking care of it...which is it? We came here for Thanksgiving and are glad we did. It was a hot ticket! We had an early 5pm reservation and waited a bit at the beginning. For a few minutes, this makes sense, because we got there early (not a far walk from the guest rooms!). Even so, after about 10 minutes, it felt a bit tedious and disorganized on their end. We waited in the main atrium, which was crowded, and they had to yell out to people who was ready to be seated, which was a mess. While we waited for them to have our table ready, a massive line of people formed, and I think all or most had reservations, so it seemed like the restaurant was having a difficult time processing their amount of guests. We finally got seated after 15-20 minutes, and things looked up because we had a very nice waitress named Tara. She was so bubbly and kind! We had a bottle of delicious sparkling wine that she opened for us. We, of course, went to the buffet for our Thanksgiving dinner! It was hit and miss, overall positive but not wow-worthy. Still, $41 for the whole buffet experience was reasonable. The service was slow, since it was so busy, and I think they were a bit understaffed- Tara was doing as much as she could! The sides were not very good, almost all bland and uninteresting as a result. The variety of other items, like crudites and salad, was great. The carving board provided dry (but not TOO dry) turkey and some very well done beef. I was surprised they didn't have different doneness options, which they usually do at carving stations for beef, lamb, etc. I wound up checking it out later, and they turned things around, with a well cooked roast and a roast that provided some differently cooked areas (like a prime rib roast would), so there were many different options for people! The dessert table was well done, with a variety of options and delicious pumpkin pie. It had a ton of fall flavors, like nutmeg, cinnamon, clove, and other spices that went so well with the pumpkin base! We also went here for the $21 brunch buffet. It had some great options as well, so we were glad to see it. The omelette bar had a variety of ingredients, even jalapenos, and was able to do egg whites upon request. My husband was impressed by the variety of pastries. They have bagels and lox as well! Thankfully, we had Tara as our waitress again! She is amazing. It is a great option, but beware of some slow service and some bland buffet items, and you'll be all set. read more

We walked in to see if the bar or restaurant could accommodate gluten free AND vegan options. We were told yes so the rest of the family came in and joined for a dinner. Upon sitting down we ordered an iced tea, two soda waters and a lemonade to start. We were then told they couldn't accommodate for a gluten free AND vegan diet. I mean you could do a salad and remove more than half the ingredients and only do oil for dressing and still pay over $16 for just lettuce at that point, but they didn't even offer that. The server seemed extremely annoyed so we asked for the bill of the drinks and were ready to leave. Our bill was $12! For those four drinks (two of which are just soda water!) Did not feel welcomed at all here and would never return! read more

Some of the worst tasting food i ever had. Pizza: thin crust pizza is made with a weird cardboard-like cracker of a crust. The flavors of the sauce, toppings, and cheese took me back to my high school cafeteria, not in a good way. Pasta Alfredo: its just pasta swimming in salted milk. Sounds gross? It was. I'm grateful that nobody got food poisoning. Not grateful to have paid $20 for something so unappetizing. Entrees were supposed to come with bread. They did not. Enjoyed a lovely meal here on a Monday night when not all restaurants in town are open. It was also music night and there was a guy with a guitar playing some really nice music. The staff were very friendly and the food was delicious. I had the pistachio crusted salmon and I absolutely loved it. The fish was cooked perfect and the potatoes were whipped perfection. We ordered lunch for pick up on 8/16. Due to the COVID situation, we decided to pick up food and dine at a nature park nearby. We had to wait for 30 minutes to get the food. That is not the major concern. We ordered a kids meal (chicken strips and fries) which came in a styrofoam to-go box which was melted due to the heat from the food. I guess the chef has picked the strips from the hot oil and directly placed them in the box which has melted it. It's pretty bad that we noticed this after the kid was done with his lunch, as this was melting was at the lower half of the box. Its a safety concern as the food might have had some melted styrofoam on it. read more

February in Galena is not on the list of "places to see and be seen" but got a nice weekend getaway deal on Living Social for Eagle Ridge Resort . Popped my head into the Woodlands restaurant to see the menu. The host boasted that the tomahawk Berkshire pork chop was the best and was huge "about 16 oz". So we gave it a try Again February in Galena so the the restaurant was sparsely filled with patrons. Waitress served us our glasses of wine and disappeared for 10 mins. Ordered the corn and sausage chowder which was tasty but turned out to be the highlight of the dinner. We order the tomahawk chop and the seared duck breast on wilted spinach salad. Thinking that the long wait for entrees was due to cook process of a thick chop and properly seared duck it was a disappointment when the dinners did arrive. Tomahawk Berkshire pork chop was a puny average chop from a "Denny's grand slam breakfast" size, 1/4 inch thick. ($28) Seared duck was tough as shoe leather and the spinach was uncooked/raw and not wilted with no seasoning or flavor. ($15j Overall, not a place for a great dining experience...But the view was nice so I guess they have got that going for them read more

This place is pretty good for the area. The service is fast and friendly, the menu has some good options and the atmosphere is decent. I ordered the salmon, which was cooked be very well, however, the veggies it came with were quite disappointing. The potato cut outs were dry, tasteless and bland. The corn tasted like it was right out of a can. For the price I didn't think this entree was worth it considering the portion size. Also, the side salad was pretty small and sad - my tomato was a half of a tiny sliver - basically a hint of tomato. This attention to detail could be beefed up. People, especially with children...run! go into town, go anywhere else in the territory or galena but not at the Woodlands. we sat down at 6:30PM on a saturday and we saw out waitress a total of 4 times during the two hour dinning experience for which we waited 45 minutes for complimentary bread, thirty minutes for drinks, and an hour and a half for our dinner. Our children were starving and because we didn't see our waitress i had to go up to the front to ask for bread at least, and across the way to the bar for a drink. We love Eagle Ridge the resort, but do yourself a favor and go somewhere else to eat please. Everywhere on the property the food and service is less then mediocre and no one deserves that, even post-covid. this is in my top 3 worst experiences for dining read more

Happy with my overall dining experience here. My wife and I had the French soup which was great. I'm not a big fan of French because my experience with them have been too salted. This was light for a rich soup. We both had the veal dish which was good, veal was tender like pulled pork, mushroom gravy (or whatever they call it) was ok. Then she had the cheesecake and I had the tiramisu. I'm a big fan of tiramisu and that was delicious. Great price and great portion size, and on point flavor. Cheesecake was perfect too. Quite smooth and just the right touch of sweet. It was our first time and overall pretty pleased. We where in no hurry but could definitely feel service was a bit slow. And I can see why, they had a wedding, and it's a Friday night. And if I understand right the kitchen here caters food for weddings too. My thoughts are with the restless and hard working kitchen staff tonight. You guys made a great course of food for us. Thank you kitchen team! read more

For a more upscale establishment, the service could have been better. Hostess was courteous but once seated, we waited over 15min and still no water or waitress willing to take our order. My wife and I both got the veal pot roast. We have had this before and the meat is incredibly tender and the sauce is savory. Our waitress was very attentive and she did a great job. This was the worst experience of my entire life. First of all, I called to make a reservation, at 6pm and Sylvia told me no. Ok. So we went in, she said it's be a 30 minute wait. Fine, it was an hour. Then we say down, we waited for 1/2 am hour to get a menu. By 8:31 we put in our order. Didn't get our food until 9:20. The kids chicken tenders and burger were cold. I ordered a Cobb salad because the lady next to me had a nice large avocado on here's. I got 3, thin, brown slices. Wtf? My husband had the buffalo chicken wrap, eh. They didn't have red wine for me. When we got our food, the waitress asked if we needed anything... Duh.... Silverware, napkins .. We aren't barbarians. Absolutely the worst experience and as a result, the pool is closed now, as is the gym and we missed everything because is this horrible service. Woodstone restaurant, the only other full menu/service in The Territory, was sending everyone to Woodlands due to air conditioning issues. So of course it was crowded. We were not told too bad or wait an hour. We saw staff combining tables, moving chairs and ultimately seating us at an awesome huge high top table in the lobby. Then letting us order from all 3 menus! Bar, restaurant and pizza place. Wow wow wow Loved the pupu platter. Terrific Cobb salad. Pizza was overdone but understandable in light of what the kitchen must have been trying to keep up with. Shared the crazy cinnamon roll dessert thing oh my. Had reservations at Highlands for our anniversary but didn't find out they were closed for a COVID incident until we pulled up to the front door, all dressed up and hungry. At that point (6 on a Saturday night), there was nothing available downtown, so we opted for Woodlands even though we had a less than stellar experience there last year. The menu is extremely pared down, but the host mentioned a strip steak special that sounded good. Sat for 10 minutes with no server, and left after overhearing them tell another table they were out of it (at 6 on a saturday?!). Just left the Woodlands Restaurant and we'll never go back! 5:30 on a Tuesday night, one table of 16 people and one table of two until my husband and I arrived. There was one waitress handling the dining room for all 20 people. She never introduced herself but did get our first drink right away. She returned 10 minutes later to take our appetizer & dinner order. It took 20 minutes for her to bring us a single shrimp cocktail appetizer we were sharing at which time my husband asked if it's common for there to be so much time between courses. Her response, with no apology, "I'm trying to take care of a million people over there" as she points to the table of 16. 15 minutes later I get my salad and my husband gets his onion soup, which is cold. 10 minutes and we get our entree's. My Salmon is overcooked, unseasoned & tasteless and my husbands "medium rare" fillet is still "mooing". I forced down my dinner but he did not. My husband talked to the manager, who was very professional and apologetic. She offered compensation and took my husband's dinner off our bill. This restaurant (on site at Eagle Ridge resort) stopped serving food at 10pm and we had just missed the cutoff for dinner. However, the manager came out and kindly offered to make us a pizza. She was so friendly and accommodating, and it was a perfect start to our weekend trip to Galena. We ate here twice in our week long stay in Galena. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was relaxing and comfortable - that's why we came back again. Sylvia, the hostess was charming, friendly and made us feel we were at one of our favorite restaurants back home. Tawny, our server, was sweet and, even though they were a bit short staffed, she kept everything moving along nicely. We stayed at the eagle ridge resort and had a fantastic time!!! We went to the prime rib buffet and had an amazing dinner!! The icing on the cake was staff member Sylvia Martin!!! She made us feel so welcome and told us some useful information on what to do while visiting Galena. She also made sure that we were satisfied when we had an appetizer come out for the bar that was not up to par. Great dining spot at the beautiful Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa. My wife and I are vegan, and finding food can be a challenge in rural areas like Jo Daviess County, Illinois. We were able to enjoy an outstanding meal at Woodlands, having the Romaine Bruschetta, roasted vegetables, a salad, and the remarkable Sinsinawa Mound Sinnablast for dessert. Our server, Chris, was knowledgeable, attentive, friendly, and helpful. We couldn't finish our dessert, and she not only packaged it to take with us, but packed extra caramel sauce and cutlery. Clearly a lot of pride in the service and presentation. Great dining experience. read more
