I like this place. It is a little bit of Burien that reminds me of Seattle when I first moved here years ago. It is a little quirky and mostly friendly. My friend likes the Meatloaf and thinks their gravy should be a course in itself. I like the fish taco. We stopped by last night and a young man by the name of Jesus made our evening special. He reminded me of that old fashion customer service style. Checked on us, but didn't intrude. I forgot my reading glasses and I asked by chance did they have any readers that someone left behind and he came up with three pair. Came here before going to Highline Hospital for visiting a friend. Walked up to Old Burien, trying to find a good place for lunch. Saw the Yelp reviews and came in. First impression was that it was mostly a bar. Kinda loud music. But the waitress told me to sit outside on their patio. That was great, shaded and surrounded by plants. The waitress was about my age, 62 and was wonderful. She answered all questions, made recommendations and made sure I didn't need anything. Sometimes a place can have great food, but you feel you are inconveniencing the staff by merely being there. My waitress genuinely wanted me to enjoy my time there. Had an excellent watermelon salad, with a side of grilled salmon. Really refreshing on a warmer day and the flavors were balanced. Salmon was cooked perfectly. Really good. Ok, get this. They brought out the salad first, but forgot the salmon. So, waited about ten minutes and they brought it out.Not only did they comp the salmon, the waitress refused to take my tip. She handed it back to me. She said give them another try. Never had this happen before. As I'm leaving, the cook checked in with me, to see if I enjoyed my salad. I'm not sure if they don't clean their mop or if there is a floor drainage problem behind the bar or in the kitchen. So...the Tim Room is cool. Old Burien is cool. The problem with this joint is that it is clickish. My sweetie and I never felt like we were "in the know," despite going there numerous times and trying to get to know the bartenders and wait staff. The regular crowd gets all the attention. They even show up early to "reserve" their seats in the cute little Tin Room movie screening room. The dining area is cramped and the place is noisy. My advice to the owners and staff is this: make an effort to recognize returning customers and let them into your club. We gave up on you. read more

We had a chance for datenight in Burien and so I started to poke around for restaurants that seemed new and fun around the area. Seeing Tres and Alisa's reviews, this place sounded pretty darn good, so we dropped off the little one and headed over. I will say that if we had just had a drink, I would have definitely bumped this up a star; my cocktail was as promised, fresh juice, divinely made and a perfect suggestion from our excellent server. When we first arrived, two servers walked right by us and the bartender tended to the back bar as we clearly stood confused in the entry area- did we seat ourselves? Who worked here, there was a woman perched at a table who didn't turn to us, and eventually, a man that must have worked there as he offered to seat us pointed us at a table, but no menus were given. There was a rumpled bag of popcorn kernels next to my seat and the seats were wedged together rather close to our neighbors who were loud and drunk people of my parent's age, clearly regulars as he championed his full gin drink as 'they know ME here'! However, on to the rest...the food was just okay, and food to price ratio just didn't work for me. Overall, the menu was a bit disjointed with entrees being 1/3 Mexican inspired choices and 1/3 'comfort food' and 1/3 pasta w/ dishes. The cod tacos - his choice- were alright but short on the Pico which was short on the onion and cilantro-and the cost did not line up with the quality. I had the Chicken Picatta and while the sauce and pasta were really good, the chicken itself was tough and - perhaps they don't know about brining- but the price was right on for the dish overall. As I mentioned, though, the server was a dream. She was professional, checked in with us often enough, asked about our meal and was really GREAT. Still, the biggest issue for me was that while the decor is clearly trying really hard, at the end of the day, regardless of the clear desire for a group hallucination, we're in Burien. And while that's a fine place to be, don't try and pretend it's Fremont, because it's just not. read more

Been to Tin Room twice now, both visits spent in the company of the same lovely friend. I want so badly to like this place. It's cute, it's fun, it's got an odd population that is predominantly just-off-work office professional men, something I won't scoff at, and it's all comfort food. I just...can't. There's nothing wrong with the food. The first time out my friend and I shared the calimari. It was good, if not unremarkable. She had the burger, a huge hunk of ground beef formed into a slab and served up with tons of condiments and thick-cut homemade chips. It got the stamp of approval. I had the meatloaf and mashed potatoes. The gravy poured over everything was far too salty for my liking, but it wasn't awful. Plus they have cute little bottles of Diet Coke that tickle my fancy. (See? I'm not so hard to please!) The service was nothing special, but that's fine by me. I don't go out to be fawned over, just served efficiently and in a timely manner. This place was perfectly serviceable in this regards the first time around. We were back about a week ago after being unable to figure anywhere else worth going in Burien. This time I had the barbeque burger which was cooked as I'd ordered and my friend had the fried prawns. The burger was good (not worth getting again), and my friend really liked her prawns. This time around though, the service was abysmal. The waitress barely came around, and when she did, it was like we were an inconvenience for being there. (Yeah, sorry for that 25% tip we're about to leave you - hmph!) She took our drink orders without waiting to find out if we were ready to order food (we were), and when the food came, we didn't see her again until my friend flagged her down for more tartar sauce. She asked for water at the same time, and somehow that appeared at the same time as the check. Yeah, that's handy timing, thanks! Worse than the complete lack of attention from our server was the fact that they felt the need to stock the place at 6:30 on a busy Wednesday. Seriously? You want that scrawny girl walking through with buckets of bottled beer or armloads of bottled ketchup/mustard? And then she gives the death glare to anyone who even twitches in what may be her direction? Not cool, Tin Room. Not cool. Really, while I'm not really aware of what these places may be, there has to be better places to eat in Burien. Save yourself the bother and go somewhere you can get service with a smile. Atmosphere is top drawer, but food and service way below expectations. Poorly managed and understaffed the day we went--our waitress had too many tables. Couldn't take our order in a timely manner and couldn't keep our water glasses full, and my wife never got a refill on her iced tea. I ordered the special, beer battered prawns and the batter was uncooked in the middle and the prawns were not deveined, which is gross. The fries were very good, though. Didn't have a chance to complain because the waitress never returned to check on us. I suspect this place does a fine job under ideal conditions, but we got the food and service we got, hence the two stars. read more

Visited this place on a moderately busy Saturday afternoon recently. The food is decent and the atmosphere is great but our waitress was a real dud. Because of the recommendation of some locals, I'll give this place one more shot. However, I will not be waited on by this lady again. Anyone can have a bad day but she had zero personality and just didn't care. I don't know how management can allow this type of service unless business is so good, they don't care. I've been here many times over the last four years or so. Every time it's been a great experience! April 5 I was there and had the chicken tacos... oh my! How FRESH and wonderful! Wow! I also had two dirty martinis that were delish! Mo made them, and she's a fantastic bar tender! So is Travis. The wait staff is completely top notch. Holy sidecars and whiskey sours batman... this place is psychotically good! I hadn't been in over a year and was pretty surprised by the quality of the drinks. The whiskey sour was made after the traditional manner and therefore was trully sour without that nasty coma inducing sweetness catching on your tongue. The sidecar was trully awesome... the rim was completely over sugared but it hit the lips perfectly and was a lot of fun to indulge in. The decor here is pretty cool, the building used to be an old tin shop (hence the name) and a lot of the original fixtures, pictures, tin pieces, and moldings are still in place. Some of the random ephemera have been skattered around the shop, nailed to tables and walls, old signs hung cattywompus on the walls, random papers burnt at the edges framed and hung over doorways. Overall this place has turned into quite the hot spot and if you want to sit among some trully vintage decor and enjoy some potent drinks if your in the south end, this is the place to go. read more

You know me- you know my love of Burien. Add in some dirty martinis and good people and I am in the best place ever. The roomie and I headed over to the Tin Room after checking out the newly redecorated Bison Creek. We sat at the bar where Kelly was quick to serve us and I had no problem chatting up the locals. (My dad is kind of a big deal in these parts so I know several familiar faces!) We checked out the menu and ordered some nachos- not very adventuresome- but we just needed a quick bite. I love the concept of this place. I'd read the reviews and we were so excited to try this lovely place in our backyard. The decor is fun and historic, the clientele friendly and bustling....Yet the service...oh my, not good. At first we were really perplexed, it defied all the reviews, were we there on an off night? Was it just super busy? Er, no. The woman who served us was supervising others so either she was an owner or hostess, not sure which. The service was seriously delayed and when I say delayed I mean it took 20 minutes for her to even recognize us and it wasn't that busy. The food was on the cold side when we got it. The beer was good. And the food minus the temp was tasty, but sort of soured by the lack of attention and continual dismissive attitude we got. We were even dressed properly :( I don't know that I'd try it again, it wasn't that great. I'd rather go across the street to the Mark Restaurant and Bar where it's consistent and friendly and prompt. read more

I wanted to like this place, really cute, super cool, tiny 21 & over movie theatre. We went there for my birthday with the intent to go to the movie after dinner. We arrived at 6pm, movie starts at 7pm. It took the waiter 45 minutes to take our food order. The movie started a few minutes after our food come. We had fish tacos because we read rave reviews about then, $14 for a pile of cabbage & a scrap of fishy fish. Not worth the money. It is a bit pretentious to give a bar five stars... but it isn't always about the food.... sometimes it just has to be about the ambience, the total gestalt.... This is a neighborhood joint in an area where they've really never had a neighborhood joint. You walk in and if you live within a few miles, you are almost sure to meet or see someone you know. And... if you don't, the wait staff will soon make you feel like a part of the family anyway. Dan "The Sausage Man" (and owner) is often behind the bar and using his athletic skills (once a very good soccer player) to shake all of the hand made drinks. The have a juicer and they know how to use it. He is always very busy but keeps an eye out for all of the new and old customers and has a smile and friendly greeting for all of them. Get the idea it isn't all about food? But, the food is very good and they change the menu rather frequently as they really pay attention to what the customers want. There is always a slate at the north end of the bar with the daily specials listed and we've never gone wrong with those as well, but we are also happy to work from the regular menu. The have a great cheeseburger and their potatos are sliced little rounds that are fried brown and crispy. It is the best of the places in Olde Burien... and will probably stay that way because they truly do pay attention to their business... Oh.... Monday nights are half-price wine nights. How in the world does this place have a high rating?! I ordered a hamburger here, asked to have it cooked medium, and it came COMPLETELY raw, even cold in the center. Maybe this was a mistake I though, so I asked the waiter to cook the burger more. He took the plate and came back 10 minutes later with the burger which was now lukewarm. Disgusting! Seriously guys? Maybe cold burgers are a new trend, but it sure isn't one I'm going to follow. read more

This place is pretty good, pretty much the best Burien has. I went to the Tin Room on a Saturday evening for a work related soiree and was quite pleasantly surprised. The pumpkin martini was excellent. Tasted just like an alcoholic pumpkin pie (not too sweet, creamy, and well spiced). There was a decent selection of veggie food and appetizers. They did justice to the boca burger and the fish tacos in my party's order. The cottage fries that came with the meal were perfectly done. The service was slow but friendly. I enjoy the Tin Room so much that the only negative I could possibly give it is that it's not next to my house, and my only regret is that I didn't review it sooner, as the previous glowing reviews effectively capture everything that I wanted to say about it. It's worth restating, though: the food is better than one has any right to expect from a bar that isn't a restaurant attachment. We've had several different meals here and are continually astounded by the quality. The burger & fries are good, of course: I'm not sure any reviewer can honestly claim a bar has good food if their burger is subpar. It's the non-bar fare here that really shines, though. The steak is great, and I mean great: it's better than many I've had in restaurants where steak is the claim to fame. The crab cakes (so my dining partner told me, not my thing) are well balanced, with the right amount and size chunks of crab meat, a good blend of fillers and excellent breading. read more

Yelpers, you definitely turned me onto this downtown Burien location when I looked up "cheesesteak" in the recent month. My father was in skilled nursing care in a nearby location and craving something other than "facility food", and definitely steak! Both times I checked in to Tin Room Bar, I took my orders of lunch to go. Both times, I ordered half of a BLT sandwich for myself and they were delightfully full of flavor with a side of what seemed to be fresh-cut french fries. The fries were seasoned perfectly. During the first visit, I ordered my father a fully-loaded, hold the tomatoes, cheeseburger. They held the tomatoes, and with a just crisp side of fries, my father was more than happy. As it turns out, that particular day they had run out of cheesesteak sandwiches. For my second visit, I managed to order a cheesesteak sandwich for my father. We were both mildly disappointed that the sandwich was not only dry, but without much "cheesesteak". My BLT was just as scrumptious as the first visit, attesting to their consistency. During both visits I was taken care of by an elderly woman who is the epitome of phenomenal customer service. When I made trip two, she remembered me from trip one and wished my father good health. She triple checked my order, assured there was plenty of ketchup, salt, plasticware and napkins for our meal. Despite the cheesesteak episode, I will definitely be back to Tin Room Bar and am super interested into checking out what's behind the bar with my next meal. read more

Popped into the Tin Room after reading a lot of the rave reviews and finding the history of the place intriguing. My friends and I have been looking for an "our bar" for a couple of months now ever since we came home from finishing school. We decided to try out the Tin Room on a Tuesday night to celebrate the birth of my new baby niece across the country. The place seemed like a comfortable, well-designed bar. We ordered some standard mixed drinks--my friend got a vodka tonic instead of the vodka cran that she ordered. Simple mistake, not really condemning. The drinks were a little weak considering the pricing. Still, we found a nice, small, metal table and enjoyed ourselves the whole time we were there. The small theater also looks interesting and might draw me in again. However, we all kind of agreed that this bar would be awesome if we were about ten years older. Everyone else there all looked to be at least thirty (or forty), and somewhat hipster artsy types. Cool location, attractive gimmick, and unique decor all contribute to a positive experience at the Tin Room. Will definitely check out again on a busier night just to avoid giving a review based on only one visit, but it may be a while before I do. read more

Juicy and chared just enough to have a little crust with Steve's famous Bourbon gravy. Comfort food does not get better than this, great on a cold winter night with a martini of course. Good fish n chips but the chips need work. They were these thick cut rubbery disks from a large potato. Edible, but I didn't think that was too appealing. Great service and the outdoor seating in the back of the tin room is a bit tight, but can be a great place to be social. A bit loud to hear your guest across from you, but it was charming. Owner was a nice guy and recommended taking a peek at the tin room theatre attached to the bar area. My guest didn't want fries but a salad instead. That seems to have caused some sort of pricing conflict. A returning patron, now I see why my guest raised concern about getting the same amount of food as before. Reading the past reviews pointed out the consistency issues. When the bill arrived, had a bit of a sticker shock. $78.57. After adding up 2 fish/chips, salad, and three margaritas the price should be around $62 according to the online menu if I assume margaritas are $9.95 like most other drinks, but my bill is obviously much higher than that. I didn't want to embarrass my guest so I paid it + $20 tip. After tip, the entire experience seemed too high for what I initially perceived would be lower price point from what was described to me as a cozy pub atmosphere with great drinks and happy hour. Not sure who to blame on that one. ::scratching head:: Polite service, all employees seem to band together and not leave the area without picking up plates and making rounds which is a nice touch.
