I have found my new hair salon. I love this place. Ok so last week I went to this salon for the first time. I am new to New York and am very particular about my hair and who puts there hands in it. But I decided I was going to trust my fellow Yelpers and try this place out. Calling in as a new client I was given an appointment with their newest stylist Liv (who is great by the way). When I arrived at the salon I was greeted by the owner, Tina Pearson, which was completely unexpected and refreshing. She was so nice and talked to me for at least 15 minutes about my hair and what I wanted done. I was completely thrown off by this, who would have thought that she would take the time to talk to a new client. Anyways to shorten this up. Liv was amazing. My hair came out looking fabulous as expected from such a higher priced salon. The prices are expensive $95 for a relaxer (that's it, no trim, no deep condition, relaxer only), but new costumers do get a 25% discount which I didn't know before hand. I didn't find that they were trying to trick me with the price at all, but I did ask for the prices up front and made it clear I would be paying anymore or less than what was told to me. A month ago when I visited this salon, I was happy with the result, which was why I returned. However, this last time I was definitely not happy with the result. Instead of curls, I got an afro. I called the salon and left a message for the hair stylist asking how do I fix my hair. To date, no one has returned my phone call. I am very disappointed with the lack of professionalism. At least do me the courtesy of returning my call and offering to redo the style. read more

I LOVE Tina P. and all the stylists at the tina pearson salon. I have been going to TIna (and later to the other stylists) for 13 years. I have tried a number of other salons in the City and in Brooklyn during this time and you simply cannot find the combination of professionalism, personal attention, quality of hair care, location, value and aestheticism anywhere else. As a professional who works long hours, I often get may hair done in the middle of the day and need to be in and out quickly and sometimes need to book a mid-day appointment at the last minute. They always have been able to accommodate me, and that reason alone (in addition to the many others) is why I have remained with them all of these years. I recently moved to the DC area and have struggled to find a replacement. To the point that I return to New York at least once a month just to get my hair done. Just recently went for my second visit to the Tina Pearson Salon, and it is without a doubt one of the best experiences I've had at a hairdressers. Not talking about the decor - even though it's quite nice in there - I'm talking about how they treated my hair. Tina was my stylist, and she really took the time to examine my hair and determine a game plan. Just like everyone, my hair has different textures. I have breakage at the crown, it was shorter on one side than the other, I was trying to grow out my perm...so many things happening on my head, it was a shame. Tina gave me a BANGIN' cut, and a texturizer (my request) which she left on for varying times depending on what was going on with that section of my head. I really felt like she took the time and really showed her knowledge of hair care. All the ladies who workd there were so friendly and engaging. I really felt comfortable. I get compliments from strangers on my hair!!! As some people have mentioned, Tina is a celebrity stylist. I have gone to her shop for about the past seven months. During this time I colored my hair for the first time. I expected hair breakage. In contrast, due to the hair treatments and care, I have witnessed my hair's rejuvenation! I have thick African/Cuban hair but they do all ethnicities in this shop. My favorite thing about the salon is the caliber of stylists in the shop. You don't have to have Tina for great results. I personally recommend Chyna. I love her humble joyful conversation! But each stylist has been quality there. The shop has a glamorous clean set-up. Picture a modern grey and chrome ambience. Plus, I have personally seen two celebrities there. The price for a great blow-out isn't too bad. It's $65 but due to these magical hair treatments, it last weeks! However, I'd never pay $550 for a weave.. But I do feel that the shop encourages women to wear their own hair and that's why that cost is so restrictive. Lastly, the stylists are willing to wrap your hair or leave pin-curls in so you can take it down later. I recently did this for my Vegas wedding and my hair was amazing. Again, I got several compliments from strangers on my hair!!! I think that says it all! But the color, cut, style and health of my hair LOOKS like a celebrity shop does it. I've been going to this salon for the past year and have generally been very pleased with the service I've received from my stylist Leah/in general the people who work there are very professional and polite. While I have not had my hair done by the other girls, I think their work is good as well from what I've seen. My hair a year ago was overprocessed and damaged, combination of relaxing and too much heat. Leah has done a very good job of cutting off the damaged hair and relaxing my hair in the interim. (As an aside, I've also started doing the Brazilian keratin straightening outside of the salon and am careful about my products I use at home, which I find very helpful to prevent breakage/maintain length.) This is certainly not the cheapest place to have your hair done in New York but having the big services of relaxing/cutting is worth it to me to have done right. Having gone cheaper and had months of recuperation to fix the results, I'm staying with this salon! I also get asked about my hair cuts all the time, which also speaks to the results. Also a recommendation, if you can, avoid going Friday night or Saturdays, you'll be in and out of there much faster. While they operate on appointments, those are obviously busier times and backups happen. read more

I love that they tell you exactly how long your appointment will be based on each service you are getting and the timing is very accurate. This is a great salon, especially for natural or transitioning clients! I recently decided to transition to natural hair and was recommended to this salon by a very reputable stylist. I was able to quickly and easily book an appointment with Tina Pearson (the salon owner) within the week. I appreciate the time she took to ask questions about my hair, what i was looking to achieve long-term as well as the services I wanted that day (haircut and styling). Overall the services, facilities and customer service of Tina and her assistant were excellent! They were friendly, provided lots of tips and advice on natural styling and the end results of the actual service was great. I will definitely visit the salon again! I did a little research and decided to take a chance with a new salon for my curls. I was also super emotional that day...grieving a recent loss of a loved one and hated my curls post a "Botox for your curls" treatment I had done last August. Robby was very attentive to my needs and also kept in mind that I was probably slightly irrational due to hormones. Lol. He spoke to me for about 15min then studied my hair both dry and wet before he did anything. I LOVE MY HAIRCUT! He did an amazing job and is clearly talented...he speaks "curls". I went to get my hair tapered at this Salon. I showed the girl the style I wanted. Instead of cutting my hair as the style she shaved off the back and She cut it super low. I told her I wanted more hair. My hair doesn't look like the picture. Furthermore, it took time to grow my hair that length and now it is cut all the way down. She said my hair was uneven. Even if it was it did not have to be cut all the way down toward my scalp. I'm going back to the barbershop. I don't want to go to someone who wants to cut my hair they feel it should be. Too scissor happy. Now I'm stuck with this cut and wasted 70 bucks. You can get your cut better in the barbershop for at most 40. She didn't even shampoo and condition. In addition, the stylist left my neck bruised. There is a red scrape on my neck from the razor. read more

Simply the best. I'm originally from Washington DC and lived in Atlanta GA for 14 years, I've been to the best salons in both areas, Tina Pearson Salon is as good or better than any place I've ever been and it comes without the pretentiousness. I'm blessed and can go anywhere for hair care, this is where I choose to go because I like the best, but I don't like to waste my money. I have hair that breaks easily and no time to look "unprofessional". This salon is my saving grace, I can get in early, get out and go straight to work looking polished. Very professional. Robbie was funny,attentive, chatty but not to chatty and very knowledgeable to be so young. He was a bit rough but that is expected from a man. I told him my budget and he got right to work. Next time i go I'm aware of pricing and i know what to spend. My hair is lovely and soft. I have not been able to find a great hair stylist in NJ who can work with my natural hair so I usually go to NYC to get my hair washed and blowout/flat iron. Girl..Let me tell you ... Professional salon...but not for me. Had higher expectations after reading the wonderful reviews, unfortunately left highly disappointed. I am 4 months postpartum and new to the area decided to check it out. I am NOT natural I get relaxed every ~10 weeks. The stylist did great on talking up the salon and services especially for natural hair (which I am not). She also did a great job at trying to upsell services, which I wasn't interested in either. I asked for a shampoo and round brush. Basic service. I have fine/medium hair. It's not kinky. This service should have worked for me. I did not want additional heat / finished look with flat iron. Instead I left with my hair dry as a bone (since I didn't purchase the additional steam conditioner) the "7 second leave-in" did NOTHING for my hair, NOTHING. My scalp was drier than when I showed up due to the shampooing I had to quickly buy hair products and a professional CHI ceramic flat iron to moisturize and finish styling my hair when I got home. Again the ladies were very professional if this salon works for you. Great. Unfortunately it did not for me at all. read more

Ok so I've been following The Tina Pearson Salon on Instagram for some time and I finally went I tried the eyebrow service. I absolutely love this place, professional warm and friendly just an overall great atmosphere. Very knowledgeable on products etc. Tina did my eyebrows and I absolutely love them I normally get my eyebrows threaded however she uses a tweezing technique and I'm extremely happy with my results. Tina is really a god sent ! I had an issue with my previous visit and she went above and beyond to make it right . I came in today for a haircut and style and I can say the service was top notch. Tina is so sweet and caring and really loves what she does and it shows in her work. The staff were all friendly and I was offered refreshments upon arriving. The environment was just so warm even though it was freezing outdoor lol . Even the music that was playing was on point .
