Walked in today on a whim for their $40 walk in special. I had bookmarked this place previously so was excited when I saw the sign for a wall in special and they were able to accommodate. I have Super Long hair and wanted it cut probably 3-4 inches. We discussed it, I pointed out where it would land on me. Ok and behold. When she finished cutting, it was like 2 inches longer than I wanted. I probably should have said something but 1) I didn't want to sit for essentially another haircut 2) I don't think the stylist would have gotten it. I see many great reviews, but they Re all about Jun or Elaine. I guess when you stop by for their special walk in, you don't get either. Sad to say, this would have been a great neighborhood place, but I won't be returning. See my picture for my average haircut. By the way, while I didn't spring for a blow dry, I've never left a salon feeling not so sexy (and my normal salon, while I don't get a blow dry, they still make me feel like I got a haircut and my hair looks better than before I went in the salon). Also with the blow dry she took my flat hair and made it voluminous and bouncy. Arsenia listened to what I wanted and expertly delivered! She's also super sweet and friendly, great personality :) Even 2 days later, the blow dry still looks bouncy, healthy, and wavy, & the cut looks amazing! Cost: For my long hair (around center of back length, medium-thin thickness, straight) a haircut + blow dry = $100 (*it was $95 w/ first-time customer discount) total including tax. Made appointment to see Arsenia according to the recommendations here. She was delightful and I'm happy with the cut. Reasonably priced too, for NY anyway. However, I don't give my money more than once to places with rude owners. This business owner did not respond to my saying hello upon entering, just stared hard. Crazy me, thinking that if anything, the people running a business should be the ones to greet their customers! Funny though, he DID deign to speak to a white customer who stopped by for an appointment ... coincidence I'm sure. Also made my stylist spend almost as much time answering the phone and making appointments for other people as working on me, an actual customer who was there in front of them. Rude to both her AND me, and bad management. Never again. Too bad, as I was excited to find a place with such good reviews so near my home. I had the worst experience ever with this salon. I am very sad that I have to write this review. I decided to come here because of the great reviews on Yelp. I showed her a picture of what I wanted. She cut it 5 inches shorter. I tried to see how much she had cut off but she just yelled at me and told me not to move, so I couldn't see it til the very end. It almost felt like She intentionally cut it shorter than I asked for. I was literally fighting back tears. I called on a Sunday morning hoping to get in for an afternoon cut and all over demi color, and got set up with Elaine. I explained I was growing out some blonde but didn't want permanent color on top- just a "gloss" (their term for semi permanent color) to help me manage the grow out phase. Also was looking for a small trim on the ends to promote new growth. The salon has an assistant and she was wonderful and gentle when doing the washes. They also make sure to preserve your clothes by using smocks and plastic wrap everywhere. Elaine was efficient and fast- I was in and out in 1.5 hours flat with processing time, a lot of finesse to my cut, and a full blow dry (and I have a lot of hair!) The price was reasonable too. Cut was $60, all- over demi was $60. Advice: bring cash or be prepared to Venmo for your tip- it's not something she wanted to add on to the total bill. read more

I have to say I am very happy with my haircut and Jun listened carefully about my desired length of layers. -------- Very upsetting experience with Jun: I was really excited that I had found a salon nearby and gave it a try. I specifically chose this place based on its haircut service price, however was shocked when saw the bill at the end. Turns out Jun had assumed I wanted a blow dry as well without even mentioning or asking and charged me an extra $40 for it. The more upsetting part for me was his reaction when I communicated my surprise and he just didn't accept the fact that he performed and charged me for a service that I hadn't ask for. I never ask for a blow dry after a cut as I need to take a shower right after and would prefer to minimize heat on my hair as well as the cost. Some stylists use blow dry to check the hair length and I let them do it, but to charge for it without asking if I wanted it is really unacceptable. Blow dry is a completely different entry on their service price list and if I wanted it I would have asked for it! read more

I was in the market for a new hairdresser and wanted to find someone more locally in the UWS. Read the reviews for J & E (in particular, for Jun) and decided to try it out. More than a year later, I am a devoted fan. Jun is exactly as advertised. Professional, kind and speedy. As I have a very thick head of hair, I am constantly surprised at how efficient he is. I am usually in and out within 40 minutes or less (wash, cut and dry) and my hair is always awesome. Not only is the cut good, it also grows out beautifully. If anything, Jun is just getting more attuned to my hair needs! Even during quarantine, my hair was growing out extremely well. And most importantly to note, J & E is also very affordable. So everyone knows...all the rules are being followed and everything is clean and disinfected. At this time, we all need to support our local businesses and J & E is one of the best! read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. I went in for a simple bang trim, thinking that would be pretty difficult to mess up, but the hairdresser completely ruined by bangs. First, I asked for them to be trimmed to the base of my brow, but she cut them far above my eyebrows. Then, not only did she make them extremely blunt and square---I have a tapered style---they are also uneven from the left to right. To make matters worse, there is a chunk in the middle that she didn't even cut, so it's significantly longer than the rest. My hair has been butchered, and I will not ever return to this salon. read more

He did a good job. $80 single process. I'm very picky about color and I was happy w it. Website says $50-60 for haircut. I have short/medium length thin hair So I feel like I should've paid $50 and I pretty much got a trim but they charged me $60. Cut was good. But make sure you communicate what you want and be very clear. Make sure Jun understands you. A little language barrier maybe. I didn't get exactly what i wanted but it is a good haircut. Just not for me exactly the way it is. So be clear about what you want. Repeat yourself. The girl who washed my hair was so sweet. She took her time to make sure she removed color from my skin.
