Went to Chic Beauty Salon today for a trim and full highlights. Angela is an amazing hair stylist. I can't stop looking at my hair and wanting to tell everyone about Chic Beauty Salon! She gave me exactly what I wanted and listened when I told her to leave out highlighting certain areas. She was also super nice and we had a great conversation throughout the whole appointment. She is accommodating, offered me coffee, and asked if I was comfortable in my seat. Angela fit me in her busy schedule and even stayed past her closing time to finish styling my hair! I am so grateful. Great prices and clean salon. Will definitely be back and recommending my friends and family. Side note: I am Asian, have thick, long hair and was hesitant to try a new salon. Please stay away from this place!!!! I went for natural highlights and now my hair is white!!! I also have a line with a different color in the middle of my hair!!! She said that the price for highlights was $125 and when I went to the cashier to pay she said that toner was $60 (additional, of course!) I have had highlights several times and the toner is ALWAYS included. She didn't care!!!! And told me to that in 2 weeks the hair would be better!!!!! Now I have to spend more money to fix this! I went to this salon as it was local and had excellent reviews on facebook. The owner woman who cut my hair seemed nice enough. I had sent a video of an angled below the chin level bob I wanted. She indicated the cut would be $70. I figured the cut would be worth the cost given the good reviews. Well it wasn't. She also blamed the issue with the cut on my thin hair. When in actuality she cut the hair way to short and she also cut it uneven where the front is shorter than the back and it has no shape. It looks horrible and I am so upset. I also contacted the owner but no response. They don't know wha they are doing, this was a basic bob I needed and she couldnt even do that much. She just cut straight across. read more

I've had 3 haircuts/blow drys here with Angela the owner - who is the only staff member btw - and always had a positive experience and satisfactory cut and styling. One thing I didn't like this last time was the lack of transparency on pricing and the sticker shock I had. When booking an appt. on the Vagaro app it says cut and blowdry $50. On the chalkboard indoors it says womens cut and blowdry starts at $40 for short hair. I have long ish hair.. but my cut and blow dry ended up being $80 which I asked her about and she confirmed it was the length of my hair. I feel like that's kinda pricey for a little place on Broadway in North Bergen, but I don't get my hair done frequently. 4 stars for service and owner being friendly but minus 1 for surprise overpricing. read more

Angela and Ada were both so welcoming and accommodating! They were able to squeeze me in on last minutes notice to get a blowout. Ada did my hair perfectly - it came out pin straight and SO soft which was exactly what I wanted/needed with this humidity. Can be a little pricey but definitely worth it. Angela walked me through how to easily book online and different ways to contact them. They even gave me a complimentary sample product that I'm looking forward to trying out. if you're thinking about getting the groupon for full highlights, STAY AWAY. Save your money. This was BY FAR the absolute worst experience I have ever had. Angela claims shes been doing highlights for "20 years" but her work goes to show otherwise. She left my hair in 3 different colors, and with a huge line across my head because she had no idea what she was doing. I asked her if she was going to put toner in my hair to even out the color, she said that was $60. Toner does not cost an additional $60. I have had highlights several times and nothing has ever came out like this. Then she REFUSED to fix it! She was rude and just shook her head at me and ignored me saying there was nothing wrong with what she did and that's her "technique" for highlights and she was not fixing it. Then she was talking about me in Spanish with the other customers saying I was a brat for even complaining and asking her to fix it. UNBELIEVABLE. As I'm searching for a new hair stylist on yelp, I came across this salon and felt I needed to update my review being that I have had a completely terrible experience the second time I returned. When I returned for touch ups, Anjela left a crooked half inch gap between my scalp and the highlights right at the top of my forehead. I'm not super anal about my hair but it was clearly something that needed to be fixed but Anjela ignored it and pretended nothing was wrong. Secondly, she charges $60 for toner which is absolutely absurd. I have had my hair done at several top of the line salons in NY and I've never had to pay that much for toner. She also told me she charges $60 to color ur roots before she highlights ur hair. Sooooo 60 for color, 120 for below avg highlights, and 60 for toner....$240 total for a crapy hair job??? Nooo thanks. I have gotten color, highlights, and toner done at other salons for a lot less. No one in their right minds would cough up that much money for a salon in NORTH BERGEN! Lastly, she has terrible customer service. Even after the terrible hair experience, I gave her the benefit of the doubt and decided to give her another chance. I called the salon about ten times one afternoon to make an appointment but no answer. I was in the neighborhood and decided to swing by that same day to see if the salon was open....low and behold, Anjela was in the salon w two customers. I told her I have been trying to reach her all day to make an appointment. Her response "I am very busy today". I just don't understand how you can operate a functional business with this type of customer service ??? How are customers suppose to make an appointment if you won't answer the damn phone?! I had a livingsocial/groupon for here for a cut, all over color and blow out. Overall...I'm happy and will try Angela again. It was a little difficult to make the appointment, but once I did and went in for the service all went well. I will say, my hair was a little more red then i thought it was gonna be, but i think that's on me....lol. Next time i will request a little more brown in the mix. A while back I wrote a very nice review about this salon and it's owner Angela. Unfortunately, I have to reconsider it, since I have come to find out that not only her work is lousy she is also arrogant to the clientele. To get an appointment you have to leave a voice message and wait for a phone call back with a response that most likely never gets answer. Who owns a business that doesn't reply for a request for an appointment, the other thing is that she doesn't keep business hours she opens but you can't walk in. I live in town and was looking for a new salon. I read reviews and everyone spoke so highly of Angela and how great she was. Well I haven't been this disappointed with my hair since I was 10years old. I made an appointment online for a cut and blow dry. Online it said I was going to get charged $50 and when everything was done I was charged $70.. on top of tip. I asked her "can I tell you what I want in English?" And she nodded her head and said yes. I asked for my hair cut up to my shoulders with layers but SPECIFICALLY asked for long side bangs and said the shortest piece I wanted was righmy nose and pointed! Well she took a good amount of my hair in the front and gave me one straight cut across right by my eyelids! I have curly hair so imagine the sadness of me knowing when my hair curls up they will look even shorter when that was FAR from what I wanted. Then after she already finished cutting them she asked me if the length was good???? My hair was already cut, Angela! If I said no you still wouldn't be able to give me my length back... when she was completely done she told the woman who washed my hair "finish up with her" and she seemed more concerned with getting a picture of my hair and posting it up on Instagram than making any type of client connection... so yes, extremely disappointed. She does not care about the client and she DEFINITELY doesn't care about the hair cut you ASKED... even if it's a simple thing like bangs. I am a VERY EASY going person... I just asked one thing: To cut my bangs. Nothing else... I just wanted to go there, cut my bangs and leave like a normal person. No other service, just cut my freaking bangs. I am american but I also speak Spanish, so I was able to communicate pretty well. It didn't matter. First of all she gets clearly annoyed because I purchased a Goupon deal. If you don't want clients using deals, don't offer discounts. Simple as that. It will save you a lot of time/money and your clients will feel like real human beings. Second: I asked for simple bangs. She clearly did not care and she ended up cutting 1mm of my hair and saying : DONE But not before she starts welling saying LET ME FINISH once I asked her to cut my bangs a little more (it was under my nose and she called that "bangs with technique" lol lol lol Btw, I saw that same fact in another review... I can tell you : this is REAL. Unfurtunately we are not making things bigger.... she is a horrible person like it sounds. She is also a bully btw. This is not even the beginning, but you know what? I'm typically not the type to complain or write a bad review, which is why I did not say anything at the salon. This, however, was by far the worst visit to a salon I have had. I was gifted a group on for a full set of highlights, cut, blow dry, and hair treatment. When I arrived at my 3:30 appointment, I ended up having to wait TWO HOURS for them to begin working on my hair. I asked for very natural, ombré like highlights. She told me that she could not do ombré but that she would make the highlights very natural. My hair is now VERY streaky & nothing like the picture that I showed her. To make things even better, I was not given the hair treatment that was included in the package. I hoped that at least I could leave the salon with a nice blow out. I was SO wrong. She did not section my hair to blow it out & I ended up leading with various chunks of WET curly hair. This woman clearly has not had a lot of experience with textured/curly hair. To say the least, I am very disappointed in this experience. I am on the verge of buying box dyes to cover up this mess! :( read more

First, the owner of the salon Angela, was the only one working on a very busy Saturday and had many clients that she had to juggle with. Result: rushed work, long wait in between each step, not the best environment. She wasn't friendly at all, made me feel as if I was a burden and what i was asking her didn't matter. My highlights are horrible the color was not what I asked for (wanted a light blonde but it came out white). I asked for natural looking highlights, very thin in the crown of my head and then thicker towards the bottom. Big streaks is what I got. I look like that girl in the X-Men (I think her name was rogue?) The haircut was fine, minus the long side bangs I asked for that looked trimmed by a 5 year old. The blowout was great!!! She put an oil in my hair that smells divine. Overall, very bad experience would not recommend or return. I have to spend even more money to fix her job! Very disappointed as I'm the kind of person who always wants to leave positive reviews and not hurt peoples feelings but I want to warn someone who might not wanna waste 80 dollars like i did ! I went here after purchasing a groupon and I regret it so badly. I got a hair cut and ombre done. At first the cut seemed alright and so did the color. But then when I took a closer look at home i noticed the back of my hair was chopped up so badly. One layer is about 3 inches shorter than the rest. It looks like someone grabbed a chunk of my hair and just cut it out. I showed my friend and she gasped. Not the 'OMG it looks so good' kind but the 'OH S*** what the f*** did you do' kind of gasp. This place is a joke. First off, all the hoopla you have to go through to get in touch with someone is wasted time. After receiving an automated text that continuously says "can't talk now". I'm still trying to wonder the customer service skills of this place. More so, what kind of business or establishment doesn't return calls, or takes calls. But then texts your phone with a "can't talk right now" from another number different than the salon. Once you do get a hold of there are restrictions of a service that they claim to provide. How can hair be too long or too curtly when you are going to a Hair Salon. Can someone please explain this to me. Isn't this the type of business that you are???? Bottom line, why would you want to put your invest your time and money time in someone or their business who can't treat you right, or speak to you and has no consideration of your time. Horrible service. I redeemed a $30 Groupon at this salon and was charged an additional $15 during checkout. The lady said it was an additional charge for taxes. WHAT SALON CHARGES 50% FOR TAXES!?!? She did not provide any additional services than what the Groupon specified so she had no right to charge me. She also refused to provide a receipt for the additional $15 I paid.
