Love it here !! Oscar is genuinely an artist with hair :) I went in for a consultation on Tuesday and got my hair done on Saturday. In general, booking an appointment with them is very flexible and I was able to walk in for the consultation. I really appreciate the time and effort they took with making sure I got what I wanted while they also explained what they recommended and why. I am not happy with the hair cut I got here. The hair stylist that was assigned to cut my hair did not speak English and I had to speak with a different employee that could translate for him. Also when he asked if I wanted my hair straightened I thought that meant blow dried straight and not with a flat iron. The hair stylist did not use any products to protect my hair from the straightener and as a result some of my shorter hairs on top of my hair stuck up and were probably damaged. Also I would not have gotten the straightening service if I had known it would be an extra charge. read more

I brought my younger cousin here to get her haircut as she desperately needed one and her mother didn't have the time to do so. I was able to text the business phone number and schedule an appointment for the same day which was great! We arrived promptly at our scheduled appointment time, but waited around 10-15 minutes for our stylist to be ready for the appointment. We weren't told that the hair stylist would be a male, and my younger cousin was a bit confused by this but we just went along with it because she really needed the haircut. The owner presumed that I was my cousin's parent as I spoke for her (she's very shy), so I also just played the part. Our hair stylist didn't speak English, so the owner was translating to the hair stylist for what my cousin wanted in terms of a haircut. We requested a trim and to add additional layers, so not a super complicated haircut for a growing teen. The hair stylist started by washing her hair and then proceeded with the haircut. When my cousin was almost finished with her haircut, the owner asked if we wanted to have her hair blown out but he didn't specify that this would be an additional charge. This was a bit frustrating, but I didn't mention it at the front desk when the hair stylist was collecting payment due to the language barrier and the owner was not within the store anymore. Ambiance was okay. The salon is clean and they play music from a JBL speaker. The stylists and nail technicians communicated in Portuguese amongst each other within the salon so it gave a homey type of vibe. I don't think I'd come here for my own personal hair services, but I appreciate the quick and easy service for my younger cousin. read more

I went to check this place out today for a wash, blowdry and flat iron. There was only a very short wait even though today is Saturday, and there was a parking lot. You make appointments by texting them, which is unusual but not inconvenient in any way. Rafaela honestly did that. Straightened my hair like it was her god given purpose on earth. Got my confidence up 100 points. Hair so soft I been petting it for the last 2 hours. I was so happy with it that I hugged her when she was done lol. And since they're in the same lot as a cvs, I was able to pop over there for some oils and dry shampoo afterwards. They're small but definitely come check them out, they do a great job. read more

This is 100% the go to place from both me and my husband for haircuts. I have gotten a haircut here from both Christina and Tom. Christina is more experienced, and she gave me what she thought was best suited for my face (layers!). I loved it. Tom is also great with scissors. I guided him and he was very attentive. I told him where I wanted more texture and/or volume. And he gave me exactly what I wanted. Both times they charged me $55 (Blow-dry, wash, cut). I just moved to Brighton from central NY and I was thrilled to find a salon close by that offered services close in price to those I received at home! It's always nerve wracking trying to find a new hairdresser but my appointment with Kristina was great. She was friendly, thorough, gentle, and listened to everything I asked for. The entire staff was friendly and chatty, and the salon had a very comfortable atmosphere. I started with an eyebrow wax ($10) which I haven't had in over a year. I was pleasantly surprised to find that even eyebrow waxing is done in a private room, not out in the middle of the salon or near the sinks. I have areas on my brows that are very sparse from tweezing. When I told her about this, she was happy to just clean them up a bit and even offered me some tips on how to get them to grow in a little more. The haircut also went very well. She gave me an A-Line bob and put some layers in and removed a lot of the dead weight. A wash, cut, and blow dry/style came to about $45 which is more than reasonable. The whole process was super quick (less than half an hour) for haircut, and absolutely am satisfied with the result! She is especially great in creating layers that suits your face type. They helped me keep my length while giving me a beautiful cut and were able to fit me in with short notice. It's always a little nerve-wracking going to a new salon, but I had such a great experience! I'll definitely be going back. I texted them to schedule the appointment (which was super convenient for me) and confirmed the price beforehand. Prices at salons can often be confusing (with unwanted surprises), but they charged me exactly what they quoted me at. I was seated immediately, and Nelina was awesome. She asked me what I wanted, asked questions to make sure she understood, and did her thing! At the end, she showed me what it looked like and was happy to cut it a little more at my request. I'm not really a talkative person so it was great that she let me just relax and didn't feel the need to keep up any banter since it wasn't really my thing. The whole haircut took 35 minutes, and it was the fastest and most efficient haircut I've ever had. And at $30? This is definitely going to be my regular spot. It costed around $70 plus tips but the blowdry was worth every penny since I have thick and frizzy dry hair but thanks to this salon I had ad commercial style hair. read more

First off I feel bad writing such a bad review for the Salon, since they seem like nice people. But, here it goes. In need of a serious eyebrow wax, I reluctantly tried Luiz Salon, seeing their 4 1/2 star reviews online, and due to how close to my home it was. I call to make an appointment, to only be left with the phone ringing and ringing. I hang up and call back a few more times and it continues to ring with no answer. I then get TEXTED from a Jessy (apparently their text response system?) saying "Sorry for missing your call, how can I help you?" You can help me by answering your phone so I can talk to you. Lo and behold, I humor the tacky texting system and ask for an appointment time- only to have to keep following up via text for them to respond. Finally, they confirm my app for 4:45. I get to the shop at about 4:41, and a gentleman flys to the front and blurts my name, then looks at one of the hair stylists and says I will be taken once shes done. I affirmed with the man (Im guessing it was Luiz) that I had called and confirmed an appointment time, but clearly that wasn't about to be honored. I'll keep it blunt- they kept me waiting over 30 minutes for my eyebrow wax. The man comes up front to try to apologize to me, but he's just noise in my ear making a halfhazard attempt to make me less annoyed. Thank god I didn't have a booked schedule this afternoon or else I would of walked out. Now- the bad part, the eyebrow wax. After waiting around for over 30 minutes, a woman brings me in for my wax. She begins the wax, and I notice she kept going over the same piece of skin with wax, over and over again. In my head Im thinking, shes waxed the same part of my eyebrow 4 times in a row now - she absolutely BURNT MY SKIN. To add to my wax horror, the lady begins resting her hand OVER MY MOUTH, to get the angle she wanted to wax. Ive had my eyebrows done routinely for YEARS AND NEVER has a person put their hand on top of my mouth - completely unsanitary and likely against health code. So, in short, after being pushed around for 30+ minutes, I then got a wax where they burnt my skin (its still burnt days after), violated professionalism codes, and charged me the full amount after their lazy attempt at completing the service. I really liked the haircut I got at Luiz, especially given that it was only $35! The salon was pretty empty when I went and it was quiet, which was really nice! I loved the cut I got, the only drawback was I felt like the shampoo and combing out of my hair was unnecessarily rough on my hair/scalp. read more

The picture frames are cracked and there was hair everywhere. - She was very rough while shampooing my hair. - The other hairdressers seemed to have every priority in mind except for cleaning or seeing clients. - The music was bad covers of 80s songs and the conversation was pretty unprofessional at times. - No water or coffee offered. I live right down Park Vale... and holy crap. My life is better because of Simone! I may never move again! The appointment started a lil rocky. I had called early in the morning was told Simone would call me back if she had time to squeeze me in. She called back a few hours later and told me to bring that cat in at 7:30pm (not in those words). I get there a little early 7:15pm- it's been 6 weeks since my last wax and I was ready to get rid o' some hair. Simone was in the entry way and told me one person was ahead of me. I sat in the salon and watched the Disney channel until 8:05pm. So at this point- I hated my life. But as soon as I got in that room with Simone- all my disgust for children's programming flew out the door. Simone's insanely thorough. I mean, I've been waxed for the past 5 years and NO ONE has ever TWEEZED my BUTTHOLE. that is what i call---- GETTING THE JOB DONE. Advice to EVERY woman of Boston: See Simone for your next Brazilian wax!!!!!!!! After having had a ridiculously awful bikini waxing experience about a month ago (I had purchased a coupon for a discounted waxing session from the website called LivingSocial...HUGE mistake) I was hesitant to go through the whole experience again. But, after having read multiple positive reviews here on Yelp about the amazing experiences people have had after visiting Luiz Hair Salon in Allston, MA (and how great the prices were!), I felt confident about giving it another shot. I only needed to make my appointment one day in advance (VERY convenient....for anybody with a hectic lifestyle, you all know how great it feels to be able to get in somewhere last minute), and when I arrived at the salon, I was warmly greeted by Simone herself and another nice looking man who appeared to be a hairstylist over there. I only had to sit and wait for a total of 3 minutes before I was taken into the private room. And then the process began.... This woman cleaned up every (and I mean it when I say EVERY...) stray hair there could possibly have been, and even treated and took care of my poor little ingrown spots and sensitive areas (and trust me, there were a LOT of them). I felt like I was in a doctors office and was in totally safe hands...and to me, that is the most important thing in the world when you are going through such a personal procedure. Don't get me wrong, the whole process was no piece of cake...I actually don't think I've ever experienced so much pain in my life...but that just comes with the territory, ladies. No first time waxing experience is ever going to be a ray of sunshine! So, THANK YOU Simone for spending over an hour fixing what the last salon had messed up...you are an angel and a lifesaver and I swear on my life that I will never go anywhere else!! :) read more

Talk about a gem of a place. I went for a Brazilian wax, and Simone.... is astoundingly patient, polite, professional and a sweetheart of a person. The only additional thing I'd have to add is this woman is PRECISE. From the moment I went into this cute little place I felt comfortable. People were friendly, I was greeted within seconds of my arrival. The sounds of Brazilian Portuguese, Central American Spanish and lilting English were making the place even more warm of a multicultural environment. I knew in my gut this was going to be a positive experience. Given the nature of showing your bits to strangers, this stuff is QUITE serious.... OK? Simone did let me know: I WOULD have to strip: no paper draws, not invited to wear my own (in fact told to let them go) but this wasn't communicated to me in a rude or unprofessional manner. Just factual. And guess what: The end result (Sorry about the pun y'all) was draws that weren't covered in clue and other stuff that wasn't covered in much either. She talked when I looked like I wanted to do so, and worked methodically, without judgment, and without so much as a frustrated sigh (my background includes African, Irish, some other stuff too and my hair is definitely straddling-- sorry with the puns-- these two worlds). Simone even gave me advice on what to do about ingrowns as a PREVENTATIVE that sounds amazing: Hint: it includes coffee grounds, olive oil, brown sugar and time alone. I'll be doing that next week. :) In short: it took about an hour. I felt like I totally get why people become strippers. Who wouldn't want to see all this! Help me! I'm fine! Go. Get Simone to do it. I'm sure the others are sweet too... but she is some kind of professional gem! With 19+ years of experience here and in Brazil! read more

I know it's almost the end of summer (*tear*), but there are still plenty of warm days ahead of us, which means plenty of skirts and dresses as well, so I thought it'd still be worthwhile to suck it up and get my legs waxed. I've never gotten my stems done, though I've gotten my brows waxed countless times before, so I sort of knew what to expect, but was still nervous. Ejjie (sp?) took me in, and I quickly forgot about my nervousness. She was patient and warm, and the entire process was kind of relaxing, believe it or not. She always asked if the wax was too hot or if I was okay, and she made me feel very comfortable. She tweezed some of the hairs that were too short to get with the wax, and was pretty thorough. Overall, it came out nicely, and I'd definitely trust this place again for other waxing needs, including what they're famous for--as Ejjie said, "I'm a real Brazilian!" It was easy enough to score an appointment (which I'd recommend, since it gets buuusy!), but I had to wait almost half an hour past my appointment time to get into the wax room, which was fine since I didn't have any pressing engagements post-wax, but was still a little EH (guess it runs on South American time, which is def more relaxed than type-A time, which is my own style). Good thing they've got a bunch of fun magazines to peruse in the waiting area. The pricing was definitely more do-able than other salons I've investigated. Probably because it's no-frills, but hey, do you really need all the bells-and-whistles for ripping hair off your body? I didn't think so. read more

I went into Luiz Hair Salon today for the first time and I am pleasantly pleased with the results! Considering how cheap their services are, they offer great service and quality work! The two services that I had done were underarm waxing and a pedicure. The waxing was FANTASTIC. I'm used to waxes with an azulene base (that green stuff that doesn't need strips), so getting a strip waxing was completely different. My gal (I didn't catch her name) was excellent. The whole procedure was barely painful and she plucked all the teeny tiny hairs that the wax couldn't get. I swear, she spent about the same time plucking as she did waxing, very highly attentive to detail. All in all 5 out of 5. As for the pedicure, I'm going to give that 4 out of 5. My feet feel supple, smooth, and fabulous but I was a bit disappointed by the nail color selection. They have a limited amount of OPI products (sad face) and the coloring is a wee bit sloppy. Mostly there's some left over nail polish on my skin. But for an $18 pedicure they did utterly fantastic work. In summary, I would definitely give them repeat business but I'd like to check out a couple of other places before I return. EDIT: It is the day after my waxing and I have angry red WELTS all over my armpits. They sting like hell and on top of that I'm already starting to get prickly. Like so many brave women before me, I came to Simone for a brazilian wax. My first brazilian. In fact, my first time waxing anything... ever. I got there about a minute early for my appointment and waited maybe two more by the friendly receptionist. Simone had me follow her into the waxing room and I trotted obediently after her, having no idea what to expect. Got straight up nekkid from the waist down and perched, a little bit awkwardly, on the exam table with my shirt on. When Simone came back from washing her hands, she asked me some questions about my previous waxing experiences (she seemed surprised that I said none... no, not even eyebrows!...but she recovered very gracefully) and asked if I was sure I had no allergies. Then we got right down to business. The wax was a little warmer than I expected, but the pain was practically non-existent. I was honestly so surprised, but from my experience, I don't see why some women freak out about how much it hurts. I guess everybody is different. Yes, some areas were DEFINITELY more sensitive than others, but the "pain" never extracted so much as a squeak from me. The tweezing afterward was undoubtedly the worst part. Yow. I was done before I knew it. Simone gave me some aftercare instructions, and I left very happy with the whole deal. Like everyone said, Simone was very sweet, smiley and thorough. I only found one hair, just because I went home and did a freakish inspection. I couldn't imagine going anywhere else in Boston when it's time for the touch-up :) read more

My stylist was sweet but I'm not entirely certain that she understood that a) I only wanted the dead ends trimmed and b) that I wanted my hair to be even, not layered. She asked the same questions twice and I responded with what I wanted...no dice. I walked out with uneven ends that still had some splits at the bottom and an uneven style despite asking for my part to remain in the middle. It was an improvement on my hair's overall health but not worth the endeavor as I ended up having a friend fix it at home. I was pleased, however, to get a great eyebrow wax at the lowest price in the area. Without the wax I would have given them 2 stars at most. I'll definitely go back for an eyebrow wax but will get my hair done elsewhere. EDIT: Simone, the owner, reached out and apologized for the inconvenience and went above and beyond in customer service in offering a free fix and wax. Cut/wash/blow dry runs just $45 and she's given me some of my best haircuts to date! I was actually quite let down because I got a haircut in between at one of those really fancy expensive places and did not like it nearly as much, so went right back to Christina and this time knew I had to write a review. She is friendly and listens but not too intense a personality - she kind of lets you take the lead with how much or how little you want to talk, which I like. Also - don't be afraid to book a haircut through the website if you can't get through by phone - I put in an appointment request through the website on a Thursday for that coming Saturday and they were back to me within an hour. After I saw this $30 brazilian offer, I had to try it. I made my appt. for 6pm Tuesday. The green line sux. Its a little walk from Harvard Ave T stop, but I still had to hustle since I made the appt. during rush hour. (Note to self: never again!) I get there right at 6. Its kind of chaotic at first impression, theres like a little shop or some kind of business to the left as soon as you walk in. The reception area to the salon is just a ltitle pass this small narrow hallway. Simone greeted me but asked if I could wait a few minutes while she finished her coffee ( I think i heard her say) but i keep telling myself customer just to make myself feel like she didnt seriously ask me to wait while she finished her coffee.. 12 minutes later, she was ready. She takes me to the back and its a bit sketchy but then leads me to a tiny room in the back. She is in the room as you undress, this I have tiffs about. can I have some privacy as I undress waist down? Ok down to business, the table/bed is a bit high for me as I had to hop up on it. So it begins, aside from waxing the usual, she also plucks, pops and attempts to get out alll ingrown hair ( sorry TMI) the finished product is awesome. hairfree and very clean. she also cleans you up very nicely making sure to leave no trace of wax. We didnt talk at all during the prcoess which is fine by me, i rather relax. overall, Simone did a great job and for $30, you cant beat the price. If you dont need a fancy schmancy spa/salon, then Luiz hair Salon is a good stop for your waxing needs. read more

Awesome price. Nice people. Pretty good finished job. Why only 3 stars? It freakin' hurt. I've been getting waxed for five years now. I consider myself a veteran of the craft. I also tend to try lots of different places so I know the whole gauntlet of different techniques (I even found a few places in London that do it when I was living there - almost IMPOSSIBLE! I think they haven't really caught on to the trend yet, but they do it with hard wax and no strips and I've been dying to find someone in the states that does it like that. Anyway-) Simone is nice, but she either doesn't pay attention to where she spreads the wax or misses hairs the first time and has to rewax places because I could feel her rewaxing places that had already been done. Owwww. I do not have sensitive skin and I have a reasonably high pain tolerance so it's not me. I got a Hollywood bikini wax here with Simone, the sweet lady from Brazil who specializes in waxing. She was detailed and pretty quick, chatting to you about techniques to reduce the pain and prevent ingrown hairs, lotions to use, etc. It's my second time waxing down there, in my entire life, and I didn't really feel pain. It was quick jerks of the waxing strips, and very warm wax, but I was comfortable and as relaxed as a person can be without any underwear, exposed in a room with a stranger. I feel that she got EVERYTHING, and I'm very happy with the results. She also puts on an oil afterwards, which may help with any irritations. I'll take her suggestions and apply healing cream, and exfoliate twice weekly. The place is along a strip of small stores, including a Dunkin Donuts, so you'll see it once you drive into the lot. I paid $35 total after tips. Cheap and great value! read more
