I had eyebrows, upper and lower lip, and chin done last Sunday. The technician had a nice demeanor, but her technique left me with sores (that soon turned into scabs) on my lower lip and eyebrow area. Instead of using a single swift pull, this technician (Sheila) used a series of small pulls, which I believe led to the sores. But I'm not sure about that. What I can say is that I'm in my mid-50s, have been waxing for decades, and have never been left with sores/scabs. So this issue is distinct to this visit to EWC in Brookline, MA (and I've been to several others in the area). Additionally troubling is that I wrote a note to EWC stating the above to no avail, even offering to send them photos that I'd taken. Not only did no one contact me, I know they received my complaint because I got a follow-up survey inquiring as to my satisfaction regarding the efficacy of their follow-up. Incredible! You can't make this stuff up. I've even checked Junk, thinking "surely not, surely *someone* would have written back; maybe it went into the Spam folder." Nope. Non. Nada. Anyway, the woman at the front desk was lovely, friendly, chatty, and very welcoming. Despite that, unless I want more scabs, returning to this EWC seems unwise and so I won't. read more

Serviceable if you need a wax on short notice and you live nearby. However, they're very fast, they don't really ease you into the process. It felt so rushed. And there were bits of wax and unattended hairs left on my body. Just go to an independent aesthetician for a better experience, I'm never coming back here. read more

I received an email from EWC out of the blue with details of 50% off all services through the end of the year. I had been to a location in Washington DC several years ago, and haven't heard from them since, so this must have been fate! I have had so many bad waxes in the last two years, but decided to take one more chance and booked online with Jenelle (based on a couple of reviews on Yelp). My appt was at 9:15 on a Saturday morning, so there was no wait at all and the salon was quiet. Jenelle is really nice and did an AMAZING job - not one single stray hair for me to tweeze (which is not a problem for me, but I have left a few visits elsewhere practically needing to go somewhere the next day... no exaggeration) and no wax residue on me either. If you have ever had wax stuck to you the next day that just will not come off, you know how exciting this was for me! Payment was quick and easy, they allow a tip to be left on your credit card, but I like to give cash. Thanks Jenelle, and see you next time! read more

Came here as a first time client for a full leg wax and Brazilian and had the worst wax experience I've ever had...my waxer had EXTENSION nails on so each time she tried to grab the wax her sharp nails would dig into my just waxed skin and make a painful experience even worse...she also did not wait for the wax to fully dry before trying to remove it so it was this awful ripping experience where it wouldn't fully come off. Lastly but maybe most unfortunate, she did a really bad job. There's at least 10-15% of my legs that are still covered with hair, like huge areas that were missed (all of my knees, back of my upper thighs).... I know it's hard to get 100% of hair removed but this is visible even from afar like...yikes. Im in pain, down a lot of money, and still have hairy legs...will definitely not be coming back read more

The customer service is terrible, specifically Selma at the front desk. She checked me in and then 20 minutes later I asked what time I will be taken back, as it is the middle of a work day, and she goes "oh you actually don't have an appointment". Then sent me away. Did not compensate me for my time or money to get there and wait for nothing. The manager was also sitting right next to her doing absolutely nothing to help. This is by far the worst location in Boston and will not ever be returning. read more

Please don't come here worst customer service. I signed up for a membership i reached out to Selena with the 30 days to cancel she said she will take care of it. Next month came i had a charge again on my account for the membership, i reached out to Selena one more, it took me forever to get a hold of her because she was never in the office or she did not want to speak to me. When i finally spoke to her she said i didn't cancel within a month and her district manager did not allow her to give me a refund however they will cancel and leave the $400 i already paid for me to use $400 for wax is ridiculous. 3 month later i am still paying for this membership after i was told i would not be charged again. This EWC location is conveniently right in the heart of Coolidge Corner only steps from the green C line T stop. This location can get very busy, and the front desk is usually honest when you check in if the aesthetician is running behind schedule. I have had two occasions where appointments were double-booked for the same time with the same aesthetician, so I have found it's best to book in person or over the phone than over the website. The facility is always maintained to be very clean. I have gone to Erika and Kelsie for about two years, and both are great at providing painless services with great, easy conversation. read more

Most of my experiences here have been excellent. The staff is super professional. However, I have not been going as often in the past year because of one waxer that I try to avoid scheduling with. Trying to avoid this one waxer has made a scheduling so stressful that I've started going to another location. I avoid scheduling with Natalia because the experience with her is so uncomfortable. She makes the wax process extremely painful and will make rude comments to clients. My friend who goes regularly has also had the same experience. I've been to 3 European Wax Centers based on where I've lived and they all deliver a similar experience. The location is really convenient off of the C Line. I started coming here in September when I moved to the area. The location offers a clean and relaxing atmosphere and work hard to keep appointments on schedule. I have been waxed by both Jenelle and Erin multiple times and they are both lovely. Efficient & thorough! I will say I did have 1 terrible experience at this location, so I give a word of caution: be very intentional with your technician selection. I'll admit if I hadn't had been an experienced Brazilian wax client, this experience would have turned me off EWC (and probably waxing in general). Luckily, I have been doing this long enough that I know people have have bad days & technicians have different styles & approaches to waxing and perhaps she wasn't my "fit." I had to change my appointment last minute, so there was only one technician available at the time I could go who I'd never met before. She was so laboriously slow. She went to rip the wax off before it was dry and it got stuck, which was painful and uncomfortable. I've been a regular waxer since 2018, so I know this is not how it's supposed to go, especially when you are consistent & your hair is the correct length. She tweezed a sizable amount of the hair (which other technicians just do to make sure they were thorough), but I pay a lot of money to get waxed, not tweezed! I politely told the girls at the front desk about it-- I thought perhaps she was new & still learning, but they told me she'd been there for a while. Management knows the name of the technician after I told them about the incident, so I will not be naming here out of consideration. We all have bad days! I've been going here for years and the waxers keep changing. They have a high turnover, you'll find a good waxer and after a few times they no longer work there. So I've had great and terrible experiences for my bikini wax. Today I showed up at 10:10 for my 10am appointment and I was told that at 10:09 the system cancels the appointment Even a Drs office does have have such strict rules. I asked the receptionist if she could squeeze me in somehow and she said the waxer is on break and the next available appointment will only be at 2pm for a 15min bikini wax. There have been a number of times where I have had to wait for my waxer to finish with their client so for European wax to cancel my apt in nine mins without a call of even a text is just ridiculous. I asked for the managers email so I could request a refund of my wax pass and I was told there isn't one. That I can only speak to her in person. There is no way I'm going back to this place again and want all my money back for the remaining passes. The arrogance is just unbelievable. read more

I'm appalled. Beware, this location WILL cancel your appointment before you even get there. I booked online for 6:30pm, got the confirmation call the next day, spoke with the receptionist LIVE and confirmed for 6:30pm. I'm on my way there tonight they call me at 6:28pm to tell me I've "missed my appointment for 6:15 but I have the option to rebook for 7:45." Excuse me?!?!?! I'm a working woman. I have a work schedule and a schedule when I get home. I do not have enough hours in the day for a made up clerical error. I ask to speak to the assistant manager. May I add before I speak with her, they put me on a 10 minute hold trying to wait me out, and then another 5 minute hold when I called back. The assistant manager got on to tell me sometimes their app and computer system don't communicate. LISTEN I work for a database company. That is NOT POSSIBLE. I call in and they tell me they're sorry I'm frustrated but there's nothing they can do except schedule for an hour fifteen out from 6:30pm. Unacceptable. I see this as a branch that moves clients around in order to fill their schedule and their excuses aka lie is to blame it on the computer system. Will not be visiting this branch or their deceptive employees ever again. End note, there was no apology or action to get my business. Sorry I can't make it at 7:45, goodnight. I am a regular customer at European Wax Center. Big fan of Lin, she is amazing, great speed, fabulous job every-time. But this review is not about the waxing crew, but about the reception experience. Few days back, I had gone in and had a not great experience with one of the wax team members, who had to attend in Lin's absence. I decided to not complete my waxing appointment, but come back later. So I cut short the appointment, and decided to pay only for the service I have taken. I had to now come back a second time, and I live quite far away, and this irritated me. So I decided to not tip. The receptionist was so angry that I did not want to tip, and made a scene. She asked loudly Can I know why you would not want to tip, to which I answered softly it was not a great experience. Then she rushed in and spoke to the employee who did my waxing. Then came out and showed me some envelopes in which I can put cash. So I repeated, I am not planning to tip. Then I asked her can you book me another appointment, to which she said, sorry, can you not see I am with another person? She was plain rude, because there was no other customer. Clearly she was running around to make me tip. Then with great difficulty, she found me another appointment, and just when I was about to leave, she again asked loudly, can I please know why you would not pay? To the management at EWC - Tip is not anyone's prerogative. It is, and will always be proportional to customer experience. It may be a good idea to give your employees at the reception an orientation training on dos and don'ts while dealing with customers. Also emotional quotient should be an aspect in your hiring guidelines. I have been a generous tipper, and this should be in EWC records. Sometimes a single touch point like this can hurt and customers may never come back. I would go back again for Lin because she is amazing but the question is, is it worth having to deal with this kind of experience. read more

I have been coming to this location for a couple of sessions and both times I saw Sela. She is amazing!! She made me feel very comfortable during my Brazilian, wax was great temperature and I did not experience the bumps after. I also got my eyebrows done! And she did such a wonderful job; the redness was minimal and she listened to what I wanted. She did not thin them out and somehow managed to give them a wonderful shape. Service here is hit or miss, as everything depends on the waxer. Started off seeing Dawn, then when she moved on, I had a terrible experience with another gal. After much physical pain and anxiety, went back for a super fix-up job from Kelsie, and instantly became a dedicated client of hers. Today I called to make and appointment and was informed that Kelsie is now also no longer with the company. It seems like anyone and everyone worth their salt here doesn't last long. The staff is constantly turning over, and with each package I buy I feel like I'm rolling the dice. I hope management takes notice of this pattern and makes a concerted effort to solve their retention problem. I will be seeking a refund for my remaining pre-paid waxes and cannot in good conscience recommend anyone invest in any packages from this company. read more

Received an eyebrow wax today. I have been to EWC twice before but this is the first time I've been left with ruptured capillaries below my brow. A skilled waxed would not be waxing that low Into my eyelid. I did not realize what had happened until I got home as the waxer didn't show me the finished product in the mirror as they usually do. Like most European Wax Centers, this location near Coolidge Corner is well-kept and maintained. The staff are friendly and scheduling an appointment is super easy. It's often hard to find a waxing specialist that makes you feel comfortable and that does the perfect job. Having recently moved to the area, I had to switch from my usual European Wax Center to this location and was nervous about switching waxing specialists. I was so relieved when I met Erika - not only did she immediately put me at ease but she was so professional and personable. She did an amazing job with my service and made sure everything was to my liking. When considering European Wax Center, their packages (they always have sales) are the best route! I feel terrible leaving a one star review. I really wanted to like this place for numerous reasons: open on Sunday, special wax that doesn't need strips, clean, easy online booking, and a free brow wax for first time (local) clients. When I arrived, I checked in and waited a few minutes before my waxer came out and introduced herself. We then headed back into a smaller room. My waxer explained a bit about the studio then gave a brief brow tutorial before started to "clean up" my brows. The process was pretty painless, but after I got home and took a look at my brows, I noticed they were much shorter than normal and uneven. I have never been to a place where they took off much at the beginning of my brows (other than a normal clean up) and now I have a larger-than-normal gap between my brows. Also, one brow is shorter than the other. On top of that, my left brow is trimmed differently than my right brow. I'm really disappointed - this was my first time here so it was free, but I would have rather kept my unruly brows another day and went elsewhere. read more

I've been getting Brazilians from EWC for 2 years now and I consistently go to the same wax professionals because I know their service is high quality. I was in a pinch today while I was back in town and decided to try Aujah per a recommendation from the receptionist. I have never had an experience this awful, until now. Aujah left wax all over which I didn't notice until afterwards when I was adhered to my underwear. She also left a significant amount of hair outside of my landing strip which is unacceptable and was blatantly there. Additionally, she left wax on my landing strip which I wanted to keep and now I have to either cut or rip that off myself. She also consistently put boiling hot wax on my skin without letting it cool for a second or asking if the temperature was okay. I do not understand how she is able to continue her services at EWC. This service is unacceptable especially considering the quality of Brazilians I have been getting from EWC. This is way more painful than it should be after the fact. read more

I am new to Brazilian waxing, and I explained this to my technician. She said she would be fast and make it as painless as possible, which I appreciated. She ended up taking only about 10 minutes, and it was much less painful than my previous experiences, which I was very happy about. However, I now realize that sometimes it can be too fast and rushed. There are definitely some strays, and I would've appreciated the extra time to make sure it looks perfect, since it's pretty pricey and you pay for a 30 min appointment. Another issue that I've never experienced before is all along my bikini line I have a ton of splotchy bruising, which is alarming to me. I'm not sure if maybe it was a misunderstanding and she thought I would rather have it be quick and get it over with then have it look perfect, but the bruising is going to look pretty unattractive in a bikini. I'm pretty disappointed after paying $50 for this service, but I would go back and try to explain this to her and maybe ask her to take her time a little more. read more

Definitely a great brazilian wax experience, and brazilian waxes HURT! This one was not too painful. I'd say a 4 out of 10 on the pain scale, 10 being childbirth. The hard wax they use here, makes the pain much more bearable. I won't go back to strip waxing brazilians ever again! The wax is made of beeswax, and something else. The skin prep with the oil and powder helps with the wax not sticking to the skin, just the hair. The most painful part is at the end, as the waxer touches up by doing some tweezing. This is the type of service the requires tipping, by the way. read more

She is extremely unprofessional and rude. She does more tweezing than waxing. And she makes comments like "that doesn't hurt" if I wince slightly at the pain. I've visited a few European Wax Centers around town and this is my favorite location. I've been seeing the same waxer, Kelsie, for about two years now and I cannot recommend her enough. She is very professional, accommodating, and nice. She's quick and makes the experience as pain free as she can. I've had many experiences of waxers being rude and making inappropriate comments about my body, but I've received such amazing services from Kelsie that she really changed my mind about the service and has converted me to a regular customer. In terms of EWC, I recommend booking online as it is faster than calling. If you need to reschedule, book online and call to cancel. I'm always given the impression that whatever system they use for reservations and checking your passes is complicated and slow. read more

This is definitely the waxing assembly-line: a generic eyebrow and very painful hard wax - if you're used to honey wax, as I am, just know that this stuff peeeeels off your hairs what feels like one at a time. When I commented to my technician that I found the hard wax much more painful than honey wax, she told me that I "had a lot of hair." Well, bedside manner isn't their thing. I've been a European Wax Center customer since 2016 but this was my first time visiting this location as well as my first time getting waxed since the Covid-19 pandemic reached its large in the USA. I was absolutely blown away by the cleanliness and professionalism at this wax center. I had some problems on my end with booking my appointment and they were very communicative and made fixing my reservation super simple and easy. I waxed with Sela and she was one of the most personable and kind wax specialists I've ever had. I cannot praise her enough. She made me feel very comfortable and gave me a very clean wax. I have been coming to this European Wax Center for close to a year. I have never had a bad reaction to a wax before. I went for an appointment yesterday, and was off to a good start. The waxer paused, played with the Wax bowl, and when she went to put wax on my left eyebrow, I felt it singeing, I knew something was not right. My eye brow was completely scorched, and I have never felt that much pain in all the years I have been waxing. When I went to check out, the receptionist knew that something was visibly wrong. She asked what happened, I said I had been burned, and she proceeded to ask if I would like to rebook with the waxer and update my pass that had expired, with absolutely zero concern about the burn across my face. Ridiculous. I call a day later when I wake up looking like I had been beaten because the burns are so bad, and ask to speak to the manager. She calls me back, explains that there is no way I could have been burned (yeah right), and wants me to agree that she is a saint because she is crediting my account when she didn't have to. She tells me that I won't have that waxer again, and that she has some recommendations for great waxers at the salon. Shouldn't all of your waxers be good at what they do, not just a select few? She could have handled the situation a lot better. read more

They have a late policy that they make zero attempts to honor. I got there 7 minutes late due to traffic for my appointment and was told I had already "missed the time slot." When I asked what the late policy was, since 7 minutes seemed strict, they told me 9 minutes "but she had already taken the next client" so I would need to wait another hour to be seen, or reschedule to another day. There were no attempts to remedy the situation. Why have a policy if you don't honor it? Unacceptable. This would have been my first time at this location....I've never had problems at any other EWC location, so I'm not sure if it was just the staff today, or if this is common occurrence there. I used to go to the Chestnut Hill, MA location, and I was always treated well there. After I was informed I had to switch locations because they were closing, I chose the location in Brookline, MA as the next closest one. I have always been treated badly at this location, even before Covid, with attitude from the front desk staff. Poor customer service and rudeness is unacceptable. After almost 16 months, I decided to go back to them after finally receiving my Covid vaccinations, even though parking around there is a nightmare and it's difficult to know how long it will take. Of course, no one informed me there was a time-consuming "contactless check-in policy" which would require several minutes of messing around with my phone in front of the door, where they could clearly see through the glass that I had arrived. After finally getting my phone to cooperate with their scan-in process, they waited several minutes while I stood there on the sidewalk, and then came to the door and informed me that I was checked in 10 minutes past my appointment time, while their policy requires that I be checked in no more than 9 minutes past the appointment time. With delight and derision in their voices, they turned me away. I believe it's important to support businesses after Covid, but the people here are just rude and nasty. On top of all that, they had texted me the day before informing me I wasn't even going to get my usual technician, who was out for the rest of the month. I had carefully planned my schedule so that it would coincide with hers. I guess it's ok for them to inconvenience me, but if they're inconvenienced, they'll leave you standing on the sidewalk and then turn you away. Avoid! read more
