I came on a Saturday night so it was a bit crowded but we were seated right away. I ordered the drunken noodles which were very good and got the Thai iced tea to drink, which I didn't like at all. I could only taste milk and no tea. I told the waitress I didn't like it and asked for green tea instead. When the bill came, I was surprised the Thai tea was still charged for. It's just tea so I did not argue about it, but I think it should be common courtesy at a restaurant to take an item off the bill if the customer wasn't satisfied. Especially for tea. This place is always packed, which I find somewhat perplexing. It is a cute spot that serves passable Americanized Thai food, but it's nothing to write home about (especially if home is any reasonably sized metropolitan area with more than one option for Thai food). I've had the red curry, the drunken noodle, and the pad Thai from Tiny Thai. None was especially memorable, although I would rank the drunken noodle slightly lower than the other two. read more

Went for lunch on a Wednesday. Busy. We ordered the Pad See-Ew and Pad Thai, spring rolls as a side, jasmine and regular iced teas as our drinks. The young Asian guy in the open Hawaiian shirt at the desk is brusque and had poor manners. Seems to be trying to act cool, doesn't welcome you upon arrival, doesn't make eye contact often, indifferent attitude. He was the only real downside. Hey dude: dress like you're helping to run a restaurant rather than hang out smoking weed on your buddy's couch, learn to smile, be respectful, and act like you give a damn. We just had our first dining experience at Tiny Tai and -- sorry to report -- it failed to meet our expectations. (We had heard good things about it from a UVM student we know.) I will let others address the issue of waiting-time-for-a-table, noise, service, and BYOB policy. We were more interested in experiencing the authentic Thai food, and we left sadly disappointed. Things started badly and went downhill from there. The Laap-Gai appetizer had some interesting flavors (mint, cilantro) but the chicken, lettuce, and onions were so drenched in vinegar that we left half the dish on the plate. For entrees we had two stir frys with rice, one stir fry with noodles, and one curry with rice -- and we requested that all four dishes be served with tofu. In any Thai restaurant the tofu should be lightly browned on the outside and moist and flavorful on the inside. I am here to report that the tofu in all of our dishes had been baked or fried hours before. Consequently it was dry and shriveled up, and as tough as a three-dollar steak. I found myself chewing the tofu 10 or 12 times before swallowing. My wife wanted to leave then-and-there, and my kids said, "Dad, we can't eat this!" Aside from the tofu, the Pad Thai was dry, un-inventive and well below average. The Gratiem and Pad Prik Pao were drenched in a reddish sauce that overwhelmed both dishes, and not in a good way; the sauce tasted like it was straight out of a can. A very big can. The curry was just so-so. We arrived expecting to enjoy some carefully prepared dishes that exuded subtlety and authenticity. Instead, when I walked out, I kept thinking I had just experienced "Thailand Day" in a high school cafeteria. We all left feeling slightly ill, although I can honestly report that no one in our group got sick. read more

This review is not about food, but about terrible customer service and a policy to discriminate against families with young children. When we arrived at Tiny Thai we were told that the restaurant did not have a high chair or a booster seat for our one-year old. When I asked to speak to a manager so he could explain why, he said it was the choice of the restaurant to not provide these items. I became frustrated with his lack of a clear or sincere answer and said I would inquire with the city of Winooski as to the legality of such a policy, and voice my concern for this discriminatory practice. His sarcastic reply was, "Oh yeah, let me know how that goes." What a jerk! If you think that this policy is discriminatory, (because it is) then you would be best served not going here and telling anyone with children to stay away because at Tiny Thai, they do not want your business if you bring your kids. Warning to people with food allergies: I've been to Tiny Thai a handful of times (pretty average Thai food compared to what you would find in any big city, above average for the area), but my experience I had the last time I ate there may be the last because of the inept waitstaff. When ordering, I mentioned I had a shellfish allergy and the waitstaff took note of that. One of the items that I ordered was the Beef Nam Tok. The ingredients listed on the menu for the dish seemed to preclude it from having shellfish in it, but the menu says that not all ingredients are listed on the menu - which is a good thing I think. Upon bringing the Beef Nam Tok out as an appetizer, our waitstaff (will keep it ambiguous as to who it was) says "I don't know who ordered this [it was me, the allergic one] but the Beef Nam Tok has shellfish in it. I just found out it has shellfish in it." Umm ok - that's not really how it works. You are: a) supposed to have prior knowledge of the dishes that could cause an allergic reaction and tell the customer when they order or b) if you don't know at the point of ordering, it's perfectly OK (it can be daunting to memorize all of that), but find out from someone who does know ***BEFORE*** you bring the dish out to the customer (not after) The waitstaff appeared dumbfounded after I asked them to take it back. They made the situation extremely awkward sort of just holding the dish there - no immediate apology was given, nor did they offer to take it back, or take it off our bill. Attempting to defuse the situation, the person I was with said she would just eat it. The waitstaff did eventually apologize. Train your waitstaff, food allergies are serious. read more

I really wasn't prepared for how mindblowing this experience would be. We walked in on a whim at 3 in the afternoon on a Saturday. We were one of three occupied tables in the place. The server and host were quick and friendly. And then the food came. As we sat over our outstanding bowls of tom kha and tom yum, and super-spicy entrees of crispy pork belly with bamboo shoots and ground pork with fried egg (both with fried basil leaves on top), we kept whispering profanity-laden praise across the table to each other with tears in our eyes. "It's so fucking flavorful!" "This is so spicy, my scalp hurts." "This is the spiciest food I've had in Vermont." "This is spicier than my mom's cooking!" "I need to go back through all my Yelp reviews and make all my 5-stars into 4-stars, because this is the only real 5-star food I've had in like... years." "This is better than the Thai food I had in Thailand. What the fuck." "Oh my god, the egg is perfect. Look at this yolk!" "My mouth is on fire but I can't stop eating crispy pork belly. I may cry." "Out of happiness or spiciness?" "Both." We were able to finish our small bowls of appetizer soup and half of each entree before reclining in our chairs, sweating and laughing deliriously. We had leftovers and the price was just right. The soups were magical (maybe because we're both starting to feel colds coming on, or maybe it is really just THAT GOOD) and I'm going to think about my spicy crispy pork belly whenever I'm lost or sad. I'm so glad we tried items from the authentic Thai dishes selection on the back of the menu rather than our usual standbys of red curry and pad thai. Its very easy to read and the menu even tells you what your getting! The service it self is also done quickly! We have gone with my office many times this past year. I Wanted to love this restaurant in the super-cute center of Winooski Where you lost stars: I ordered a salad based on the ingredients listed in the menu. It came out chockful of green and red peppers not listed in the menu. I hate peppers and I hate even more the thought of someone ingesting ingredient not listed on the menu and having an allergic traction. Irresponsible to the highest degree. Minus one star Ordered the fried green tea ice cream and it came out with freezer burn crystals in it. Ice cream lovers you know what I'm talking about when ice cream melts and is refrozen. Ordered it again came out still same freezer burn. Minus one point When I told the waiter about the ice cream he snapped at me and the asked me snottily: "What do you want me to do?" I want you to lose the attitude because I want and expect my food done right! He argued with me the ice cream is that way when it's fried. I countered I worked for Baskin Robbins for three years. And you lose another star when server tried to cancel my second order of fried ice cream without telling me and ignoring me and my guest at our table making us wait there when you had promised me a second fried ice cream done right. The best and most authenitc Thai food in the greater Burlington area. I have tried almost everything on the menu and have loved it all! I absolutely love the panang curry and the pad si-ew. They recently added a new section to their menu called "authenic Thai menu". It seriously is! The flavors are spot on. Also when they call items of this list "spicy" they are talking about no-joke SPICY. Tiny Thai also has a byob policy, how can you not love that!?! Eat here, seriously. I travel from New York every week to Burlington, VT for my work. This restaurant is located right next to my office. I love the food and portions too. Living in Manhattan, I explored lot of restaurants and cuisines. I don't expect this place to be that standards which is not, overall it's good. I just want to the business owner know that they are loosing lot of customers from my office because of their credit card policy (only 2 for the table). Sometimes we want to come here but we choose different restaurant just because of this policy. We travel here for work, according out company policy it's hard for us to expense it to the company if one person pay for 2 people (I'm talking about when we come here in groups, which we always do). This used to be one of my favorite restaurants in the Chittenden County area. I frequented it for dining in and takeout at least once a week for several years. Even after I moved away, during my brief returns to the State, I would make it a priority to eat here and even once complimented the owner on the quality of the food being on-par with some of the best Thai restaurants in NYC. HOWEVER how I am treated and welcomed in a restaurant is more important to me than the food itself, which is why I am taking the time to write this review. I recently moved back to Vermont and was incredibly disappointed this past weekend. I walked into the restaurant with my husband and daughter, shortly after the time it opened, expecting to treat my family to a dinner to celebrate Father's Day. Unfortunately, upon walking to the counter, we were told by one of the owners that they do not offer high chairs in the restaurant. No further explanation was given as to why, we were just told "well, we used to have them", but nothing more. Lets be honest --- my husband was a manager of a busy NYC restaurant for over 15 years --- to not offer high chairs in a restaurant is a not so subtle way of telling patrons that young children are not welcome in your establishment. The manager told us that yes, children are welcome, but on a purely practical level - if no seating is provided, then children really are NOT welcome there. Or maybe the restaurant prefers that families bring their young children and allow them to run amok from table to table, disturbing other diners? I won't be returning to this restaurant, nor will I recommend it anymore to friends. Yelp needs to change the criteria that this restaurant has selected where it reads "Good for Kids Yes". Nope. Not good for kids. Take the time and read other reviews for this restaurant, you will see a common thread of disregard for customers at this establishment. read more

The ambiance was average, maybe a bit below...at least there was some sort of Thai decor, like little statues and picture frames. Although, not too favorable toward the Thai style that I'm used to seeing. For goodness sake, it's Vermont. I don't know what I meant by that, so let's move on. For lunch, they have this 3-selection meal for $7.95. If you enjoy Thai Iced tea, you'll have to pay extra. I ordered a Sprite(no re-fills) with a Satay Chicken with peanut sauce on a skewer for my two small selections. Finally my main dish was Garlic Chicken. Maybe not the best dishes mainly because my chicken was taste-less, semi-cooked, and where was the garlic. Maybe it was just a badly made dish at the time. My impression was not met. Consistent Excellence. I've been eating here the better part of 10 years and the food is always fantastic. The kitchen is super fast and the BYOB aspect makes it an appealing way to have top notch food at a bargain price.(much like Pho Hong) I always get the Som Tam Salad.(green papaya with traditional lime/fish dressing) Otherwise you can't go wrong with any of the items on the menu. Be sure to mention how spicy you'd like things. They can really kick it up to sweating/hallucination level which I love. Favorite Dishes of mine: Pad Ki Mow(drunken noodle) and Krapow which are essentially the same, but one with noodles and the other with rice. My cousin, who lives in Winooski, chose this restaurant for her birthday dinner, and I'm grateful! I love Pad Thai Chicken and don't get enough of it when I'm home, so having some on vacation was a treat! I had the Pad Thai Chicken and it looked different from what I'm used to in Texas. It seems Pad Thai Chicken around these parts has a reddish color, while the dish at Tiny Thai Restaurant had beige noodles and white chicken (see photo another Yelper has posted). It was still the same flavor, though, and very delicious. The portion was large so I was able to have leftovers the next day. One thing to note: they put on a lot more ground peanut than I'm used to, but the flavor blended nicely with the noodles, chicken, egg, and bean sprouts. Service was good and the atmosphere was great. My cousin forgot the restaurant was BYOB so we didn't bring anything, which was too bad. Overall, a great experience! read more

One of my favorite restaurants of all time in the Burlington/Winooski area and a must stop for tourists and locals. I've been going to TT for years and have not once had a bad meal. The service is always friendly and accommodating and the prices are some of the most affordable in the area for the quality of food. Massaman Curry is my holy grail dish. It's hard to ever order anything else because its delicious sweet & spicy peanut sauce mixed with fresh veggies and rice is absolutely mouthwatering. Like what dreams are made of good. The Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, Pad Kee Mao, and Spring Rolls are all favorites as well. (I have tried these meals with the beef/chicken/tofu and they are all good). The restaurant is small and intimate, so the wait times might be kind of long if you go at prime lunch / dinner hour. However, it's worth the wait and there's bars nearby if you want to kill time by grabbing a drink or two. The takeout time is usually 10-20 minutes if you prefer to dine at home. Tiny Thai is BYOB, so be sure to grab a bottle of your favorite wine or beer before you stop in. They will bring you glasses and a cork screw and even pour your beverages for you. So much better than buying overpriced drinks at any other restaurant. I have had Thai food many places around the country and nothing ever compares to my experience at Tiny Thai. Stopped by for dinner with a friend during our trip to Vermont. Parking space was a tiny tricky at first, but after circling around the lot twice we were lucky enough to see one open spot right in front. It was a Sunday night and we didn't have to wait for a table at all. There were quite some people waiting to pick up their to-go orders, though. The restaurant has decent space, with a casual yet clean and nice setting. We ordered: Som Tam Boo Kem (basically authentic papaya salad with preserved crabs) Tom Yam Shrimp soup Massaman Tofu curry. I liked my papaya salad a lot, except for the preserved crab which was just tiny shells that you need to leave aside, or chew and "suck" the juice out. The Tom Yam soup was also delicious, but quite salty and I definitely needed to enjoy it with rice. There were 4-5 big shrimps in there too. The tofu curry was kind of a let down for both of us - we both found it too sweet. I've had Thai curry with coconut milk before but this was way more coconut-y and sweeter than what I'd expected. Name is very accurate: tiny (you might have to wait for a table) and serves both authentic and American-ized Thai food. If you're a vegan, make sure to ask for the special vegan menu! I would have given it five stars, but I got the tofu satay and it was just fried tofu. The tofu in my stir fry was the exact same thing. I had to blot it with my napkin to remove the oil. I would recommend any of its vegan options, but you might have to ask for light oil if your stomach doesn't get along with it well! read more

This was our second time to Burlington and we were able to stop by Tiny Thai's again. We are all a huge fan of the food. Be careful if you order spicy, as it is truly spicy with Thai peppers and all. Both the Tom Yam and Tom Kaa Kai soups are delicious. Anything with Thai basil is a good choice. I loved the Khao Pat Krapow (Thai fried rice - with thai basil). Tried this place after a vodka-infused night on the town. It was pretty decent. I got a smorgasbord of yummy Thai delights to satisfy my craving for salty, sweet and greasy. Here's my ratings Vegetable Springs Rolls were light and crispy a bit on the oily side but my hung-over body needed the grease. Chicken Pot Stickers- A little on the doughy and chewy side but still pretty OK. Chicken Satay- these were my faves very moist and flavorful, I only wished that they had a little more flavor in them. The peanut sauce was creamy and mild with peanut chunks. Chicken Pad Thai- wasn't the best Pad Thai I've had, actually it was probably my least fave I've had so far but standard pad thai fare nothing to write home about. Ginger Chicken- a little zesty, a bit peppery it was my first time having it and it was my least my favorite thing that I ordered from there. All the chicken dishes used chicken breast, which is cool but is also very bland if not spiced up right. I also got a bowl of Chicken and Spinach soup something or the other, it was the soup of the day. I haven't tried it yet I'll probably get to it sometime before the weekend is out. By far my most favorite restaurant in the Burlington area. Not once have I had a bad experience, and I have been there over a dozen times! Although you sometimes have to wait to be seated, it's well worth it as you can enjoy some of the most authentic Thai food in town. As a Gluten Free girl I often struggle at Asian restaurants because more often than not, soy sauce contains wheat. At Tiny Thai I have never had a problem. They cater to my food needs graciously and the taste is never compromised. Every item on the menu is equally as delicious as the next! Whether you're looking for casual night out with your friends or a fun date with your significant other, this is a great choice. The strangest think just happened at Tiny Thai. I ordered a spicy dish ... not spicy. I know, a recipe for disaster (pun intended). I came slightly spicy. I thought I could handle it but halfway through it my nose was running and my mouth was on fire. Be clear, I acknowledge that I'm a spicy food wimp. At he end of the meal, I mentioned it to my waiter. I was motivated by my simpatico with servers. I have been one. I assumed the kitchen didn't get the message and I thought he'd want to know. Before my comment was complete, he broke in. "It wasn't spicy. I watched the chef make it." Due to my REALLY good nature, I didn't really process that he was accusing me of lying for a moment and my response stuck in my throat. I know I got that look of condescending disapproval (thanks mom), which didn't help the conversation. I just shut up and took it like man cause that's what I am. I asked another staffer if there was a manager and he asked if I wanted to speak to the owner. I thought for a moment, decided to let my server live and declined. Dude. Even if I was a hyposcovilliac, calling out a customer for lying? I still love tiny Thai and just won't be having that particular server if he's still there he next time I go. While not as good as I remember from my high school days, Tiny Thai still hits the spot. Their pad thai is not overly sweet like the ones I get where I live now. My friend and I enjoyed our brunch. I live for delicious Tom Kha on a cold winter day. The coconut milk, galangal and lime juice opened up my palate! I usually go for Pad Thai when I'm in a rush but this time I had the Khao-Pat Bhoo... Fried rice with lump crab meat, egg, onion, chopped carrot, pea, corn and cilantro. Served with 'Nam Pla Prik' sauce, sliced tomato, cucumber, cilantro and a chunk of lime. Delicious. My friend ordered the Suki Hang which was supposed to be medium-spicy but he sweat! Sweat in a good way! We brought our own bottle of Prosecco for mimosas, and thank goodness! It was a perfect pairing. Suki Hang is a street-style dish stir-fried glass noodle with shrimp, squid, bay scallop, egg and assortment of vegetables (spinach, napa cabbage, celery and scallion) in Thai sukiyaki sauce. - I had to help him finish it...
