I have a business trip abroad and when I had my shirts laundered I asked for each of the 3 shirts to have a separate plastic bag so that when I packed they would not wrinkle. The owner informed the attendant that next time I ask for this that I be charged $1 per plastic bag. My cleaning bill was over $45. That is silly. I've been going to Tip Top Cleaners for about 2 years now and their service is AMAZING! They always have a quick turn around (approx. 3 days or so) when it comes to try cleaning, and receiving a text for pick up is great too! What's best i their customer services, Sade and Brenda as always friendly and since going for a long time always remember me when I come in and make me feel extremely welcome ever time. They also gave me great advice when I tried to get a multi-colored jacket dry cleaned. They tested to make sure it could be and once they said that the colors might run they advised that it would probably be best to try another way of getting a stain out. I needed to have a bridesmaid dress shortened quite a bit so I decided to try this place based off of the reviews. The lady that works here is super nice. She was very welcoming and warm. I dropped off my dress on a Friday and said I needed it in about a week. The man who does the alterations very quick and thorough and to my surprise it was done in just a couple days. Only been in for dry cleaning (not alterations), but both times I've come in I've had to ask if they were open/if the person onsite worked there as I wasn't really greeted and just felt out of place. They did a fine job with a dress of mine--it was $16 which was a decent amount more than my old spot on the Westside, but to be fair, Tip Top feels newer and nicer. They also text you when your clothes are ready, which is handy! I always park on Lake and have found Pasadena's passport parking app to be a life saver. It sounds like there's a lot in the back as well, but I've always looped this stop in with other errands. Per some of the other reviews and the owner's response, I wouldn't park in their lot unless that was the only stop you had to make. I clearly don't know the full story, but reading the owner threaten to tow a family with a stroller for parking there/walking in is pretty off-putting. I'll most likely find another dry cleaner that feels more like a family establishment, but this spot definitely gets the job done. read more

Two days before my wedding the buttons on my dress came off!!! Salon I purchased my dress from was not doing alterations. In a panic I called tip top cleaners and David was very helpful in setting up an appointment with their alterations lady Anoosh the very next morning! Not only did she sew and reinforced ALL 32 buttons as asked, it was done first thing and within an hour. I don't usually do reviews, but I feel very compelled to share my experience... last weekend I dropped off my wedding dress, just over two years have passed since we got married. I was completely heartbroken when I opened my gown bag to find that my dress had a huge stain that I didn't recall seeing when I packed it up two years ago. Seda, the owner, could not promise that they would be able to remove the stain, but she was willing to try! Seda called me personally and sent pictures of my dress, stains completely removed! I debated writing this review, as it pains me to say anything negative about anyone, but my fiancé urged me to write it so that no other bride has this experience. In May, I brought my brand new designer wedding gown into Tip Top Cleaners to have it altered. I had previously used them for dry cleaning many times. The dress needed to be shortened and the bustle needed to be sewed. Our wedding is in July and Anoosh, the seamstress, told me we had plenty of time. She had me put on the dress and she cut it to my length. She said she would call me when it was done, then I could come back and we could finish the bustle. I asked if she needed my information and she said not to worry, because I was in the computer. Four weeks later I had not heard anything from her, so I decided to call. Anoosh apologized and said they could not find my information because they did not know my name, even though she called me by my name in my appointment that day and on the phone. No harm, we still have plenty of time before the wedding, and I should come back in to do the bustle. I go back in that week and the hem has not been sewed, so over the four weeks nothing had been done to the dress. She has me put it on again that day, but does not do the bustle, saying she needs to sew it first. She says to come back in the next week, and I say ok. I return the next week, the dress has been hemmed, and she starts pinning the bustle up in back. I did not like the way that she pinned it the first time (one big pickup in one line), and she re-did the pinning in multiple places and I approved. This is where alarms started going off for me -- she was using very large pins and the material is very delicate, so I was concerned, but I am not a seamstress and assumed she knew what she was doing. She kept absentmindedly stepping on the dress with her shoes, but trying not to be rude, I didn't say anything. I carefully take off the dress, stepping out of it and hanging it up, and giving it to her. She said she would call me again when it was ready, and that she planned to sew small jewels in the places the bustle stitches are. She said it would be $400 total for my alterations and I agreed that was acceptable. She called me the next week and said to come in and try on the dress with the bustle. I went in and put on my dress. The bustle had been sewed differently than she pinned it, so not what I agreed to. The damage is done at this point though, taking out the stitches and re-doing them with how delicate the fabric is would destroy it. Surprisingly, this is not the reason for my one-star review. As she is un-bustling the dress to show me how to do it, she hands me a bit of the fabric to hold, and I notice a 2-inch wide square-shaped rip in the middle of the back of my wedding dress. I immediately called her attention to it. She said that I must have done it when I was "taking it off over my head" in my last fitting. I told her that was impossible, as I literally cannot take off my dress that way -- I step out of it every time. She said "yes, I was going to tell you, but don't worry, I'm going to fix it, I can sew it over so that it won't show." I felt absolutely sick, but told myself she was the seamstress and mistakes happen, she knew best, and it probably wouldn't show. I took the dress off and she said she would fix the tear and sew the jewels on the bustle and then call me. I thought about it overnight, and came to the conclusion I was not comfortable letting her keep the dress any longer. The next morning, I found another seamstress who could take it, and went to Tip Top Cleaners to pick it up. Seda was there when I arrived with a friend of mine. I told her I was not comfortable paying the full price for the alterations as Anoosh had not finished sewing the jewels. On top of that, now I had to pay someone else to fix the damage to the dress. I asked her for $100 off the total bill which I thought was fair, as it would cost me to have the dress fixed by someone else and put the jewels on. She would only take $50 off the total saying that Anoosh had agreed to fix the dress and we could have it fixed there (which I was obviously not comfortable with). That's when Seda told me that the dress had been ripped WHEN I BROUGHT IT IN. Thankfully my friend, who had been with me the day the dress arrived in the mail, was there. She affirmed that the dress was perfect when it went in to Tip Top. Seda would not adjust the price any more, so I paid the $350 just to get my dress out, then took it to another seamstress who said it would be $60 to fix it. The second seamstress would not take the dress without my acknowledgement that the hem was dirty -- probably because Anoosh had stepped on it. Since it takes quite a while to clean a wedding dress (on top of another week for the second seamstress to fix the rip), I don't have time to have it professionally cleaned before the ceremony. I hope any bride who reads this listens to his/her gut. read more

I recently had the misfortune of using the cleaners and alterations at this location. It was AWFUL. They overcharged me by a good $100 at least (compared to many more reputable cleaners further up the street or even a few blocks over.) They spilled DYE on my white dress and tried to convince me that I'd done it and then couldn't clean it properly. The seamstress (whose claim to fame is that she has a certificate from a junior college in alterations) did an AWFUL job and messed up the lines on my dresses and skirts, making it appear lumpy. It certainly didn't hang straight and she blamed it on my body. I am a size 2! In no way do my legs make divets along the zipper line. Upon calling this to their attention, the rather surly seamstress and cashier attempted to browbeat me into recognizing their clearly superior service over the Asian businesses they looked down upon in the area or more reputable shops all across the neighborhood and ended up yelling at me that I just was stupid. I will NEVER return to this establishment. I could've dragged out grandma's sewing machine or washed my clothes in Woolite and done MUCH better. AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL. You've been warned. read more

I took three pairs of men's slacks to Tip Top Cleaners for dry cleaning (no alterations). I received three pairs of other people's slacks (one of them had some kind of stain on the pockets), and one of them were women's slacks! I called to complain and to ask them to let me know when my slacks were available. The owner practically yelled at me and blamed me for not checking before I left the shop. No ownership of their mistake. My slacks were never returned. Very disappointing/disrespectful experience with SEXIST STEREOTYPES of staff David : ( I recently moved to the area & brought my suits to dry clean... *I asked David how much does it cost to dry clean suits sets? *David asked "MEN'S suits?" (while I clearly am female, with long hair & chest) *I answered, "No, WOMEN'S suits - Jacket & Pants". *David replied, "Oh, a jacket & SKIRT set." *I said again "No, jacket & PANTS" *He said, oh ok & told me it would be $21. *As I hand over my clothes he looks at them and says "Oh, this will cost less, $16" *Me "What do you mean, Why?" *He said he had quoted me the cost of jacket+skirt, even though I had already said several times that I have a Jacket + Pants suit set. I can understand if there is an initial misunderstanding, but in this interchange David was persistently sexist in not understanding how I as a woman could be bringing in pantsuit sets. I am a C-suite Executive that has been dry cleaning my suits all my career, and for a dry cleaner to not understand that women wear suits and want to get them cleaned... Great Cleaners!! After reading all the poor reviews about the cleaners in San Marino I decided to drive a bit further and try Tip Top, and it was worth it! They do alterations as well as cleaning here so that's legit. If you are walking in from the sidewalk on Lake Street and you go in that entrance you will be in the alterations area so you need to walk on to the back for the cleaning area. The lady and man who helped me were awesome! They were very nice and honored the coupons I printed out from their website since I was a first time customer. That saved me a good amount of money! I had 7 items, dresses, coats, shirts and a collared shirt that my grandpa had stained with olive oil. All this was around $50 to clean with the discount and they did a great job! My clothes smell fresh and look great, and my gpa's shirt has no trace of the olive oil stain. The clothes were done in two days too! Very nice place, although parking can be kind of crazy but I'd recommend Tip Top =) read more

I spend the morning calling alterations people to find one who could accommodate a hem-job before I had to fly outta town. Tip Top Cleaners obliged immediately and did a fabulous job. They have a fantastic text-system to let you know your garment is ready. You can really tell the owner and seamstress care about their clients. After 11 years of marriage, I finally decided to have my wedding dress cleaned and boxed. I wore it for the big day in 2003 and then for a Las Vegas themed gala event with my husband last April. It was definitely dirty and I was nervous to have it cleaned because of all the detail on it. The bottom of it was really stained and it had a stain on the very front satin part. It is a strapless dress and the top of it was pretty dirty too, especially in the inside area. I researched several locations and came in and spoke with Seda at Tip Top. She made me feel very comfortable. I came back today to take pictures with my newly-cleaned dress. I cannot believe how beautiful it looks. It appears brand new. They did a fabulous job on it and were very careful not to damage it. Both Seda and Anoosh helped me photograph it and now they are going to box it. Great job! My wedding was 18 months ago and I finally got around to cleaning my dress. My dress was heavily beaded, super delicate and somehow got weird stains from storing it my closet. My dress was completely cleaned, no stains and small tears at the bottom of my dress were repaired. The service is a tad costly but if you are going to spend a lot on a dress, you should take care of it afterwards. It is on par with other wedding dress cleaners. My dress and veil were stored with special tissue paper in a giant box and sealed shut. Should I get curious down the road, the inner box has a view window. Super happy with the service! With just one day before my trip, I found a maxi dress that I just HAD to bring with me but was a bit too long. Thus ensued my quest to find affordable same day alterations. After calling seven different places in the Pasadena area, I finally decided to go to Tip Top Cleaners. They were able to alter my dress in about an hour. The total came out to $20. I have to admit it's still more expensive than I would have liked since I usually hem my own pants and dresses so I know it's not that much work. But given my time crunch, I reluctantly accepted that I would have to pay a premium for the same day service. That said, there was another place that would have charged double for the same work.
