Discovered this spot on Yelp while looking for a place to enjoy a pre-dinner drink before our reservation at Chez Panisse. They offer some really unique cocktails, and the bartender was both friendly and helpful. Definitely worth a visit

We came to the bar because our friend who worked in Berkeley used to work right up the it was super close and the timing was perfect because it was right after the city's very first Pride festival. Super convenient spot to end up at. The bar is on the smaller side, but unless you show up during peak hours it doesn't feel crowded. When we got there, I saw maybe four or five booths, a couple of tables in the back, and some bar seating. The whole place has a cozy speakeasy vibe and it's really cute. When we left is when it got super busy!! Everyone from Berkeleys pride was showing up! They've got a solid selection of liquor, especially if your into whiskey, mezcal, or tequila. The owner apparently isn't a fan of vodka, but they still keep it on the menu since a lot of people like that liquor. I loved how all the bottles are lined up on these bookshelf-style racks with a rolling ladder. Such a cool detail. The bartender was awesome! super sweet and she made really good drinks. I stuck to the menu, but added in a couple of other items lol. The only thing I regret is not snapping a picture of the menu because they have happy hour every single day and the food and drinks looked really good. Definitely a spot worth checking out if your around.

Cute bar with friendly bartenders and a great happy hour! My friend and I had the ten dollar margaritas, the sangrita, ghost fries and wings. Margaritas and sangrita were on point, wings were crispy and spicy, and the seasoning on those ghost fries was fire.

2nd review with food: we ordered the oysters, fish tacos, fish and chips, the tikka fries are amazing btw! I recommend anything because I actually trust their food. Fish Tacos - fish on the smaller size, otherwise 7/10 Oysters - super fresh and enough for 2 people to share! Fish & Chips - yummm can't complain, the fries pair well with the tikka sauce (ask for it on the side) The drinks never fail and they pour strong. I love the staff here, they're welcoming and helpful. I always come here for a chill night out, this time was during the day and it was fun.

Their drink menu is SO fun! There are honestly so many good selections that you'll want one of each (pls be responsible). The bartenders are friendly, speedy, and artists creating these yummy cocktails. My favorites were Caught in the Riptide and The Baltic Pearl. Their hamburgers looked really good but we just got a side of fries extra crispy. Amazing compliment to the drinks with an ambiance like you're by the water. So looking forward to being back one day!

best bar on planet earth. staff is amazing i literally look forward to talking with the bartenders when i come here. they give an orange sauce with the fries that's so good i could write poetry about it. music is at a perfect volume where u can hear ur friends at ur table but not the table next to u. here's a picture of me almost crying because they thought they were out of oysters but realized they had a few extra and gave them to me for free. i love you tipsea.

Supremely well-made cocktails by a bartender who says "I got you" and you know she's got you! No matter how busy the bar was, I never had to wait long to place an order or close my tab. I liked the cozy booths for easy conversation and my friend liked the cool lighting. read more

Sad to see Venus go but the same owners flipped it and reversed it into a bar. Walked in on a random Friday night. Not for the college crowd which I like. Mature professionals enjoying drinks, bar bites and a good time. Nice addition to the neighborhood. Will be back soon in hopes of becoming my new spot. read more

What a wonderful experience we had at Tipsea. We decided to give this place a try on a Tuesday night while hanging out in Downtown Berkeley. The place was surprisingly busy for a school night, but we were easily able to find seats. Our bartender was named Felix. He was fantastic. Friendly and knowledgeable. Though Berkeley is a college town, this is not a college-crowd bar. The place was filled with professionals and locals that ranged in age from 25 to 60. This is exactly the type of scene we were looking for. They are fantastic at MOCKTAILS. They can cleverly modify and substitute pretty much any ingredient to make a drink non-alcoholic. Will be back, Tipsea! read more

This is for the manager, with the short hair and piercings. Young girl, you need to learn how life works. You don't get to harass a customer who's in the bathroom by trying to enter the obviously locked door 3 tiimes and knocking while audibly complaining to another customer about how you're an employee and there's only 1 bathroom and how this person has been in there for too long. I was literally only in there for max 5 minutes, and you had no chill. Regardless, everyone deserves to have their time in the bathroom and some people, including myself, have invisible disabilities, which apparently you haven't considered because you just don't have the mental capacity to. Just because you are an employee doesn't mean you are entitled to use the bathroom more than anyone else, and we are paying customers, which apparently means nothing. It's a single bathroom and we all have to wait. You kicked us out because you couldn't handle someone calling you out on your bs, shitty attitude. You're a joke and you don't deserve a place in the service industry. From one bartender to another, please resign. This place is a disgrace. Also, thank you, security guard, for not even hearing out the paying customer and just blindly siding with your entitled manager. read more

I came here for the first time after a concert in the city last night! The staff were VERY welcoming and the inside is so cute, there's a cool bar with a few booths to sit at. I got their $10 margaritas with a truffle burger. I have to say that burger and fries were one of the best i've had around here, especially served with the tikki masala sauce! Came to this place about a year ago and decided to come back to try it again. Went in felt just like home, sat down Gabe came over and immediately made sure we were situated food was absolutely delicious and Bri killed it making the drinks. A group of friends and myself were walking past the bar when the security guard, (later found out name to be Craig) invited us in, when we replied, we already had plans at a different bar/restaurant he mumbled under his breath, figures yuppies we were absolutely shocked and said, excuse me what did you say sir, and he replied, under his breath again with whatever. Will never enter that establishment nor would we recommend anyone else to especially if that's how we get treated just from the security guard, god only knows how the rest of the staff would treat people. read more

Drinks are AMAZING! They just soft launched their new cocktail menu and the drink on the left is from it! It tastes amazing and it's perfect for a night out! The bartenders are all super sweet and nice! They might take awhile to get to you if you're not sitting at the bar because this place gets packed! But it's definitely worth it. Drinks are excellent, bartenders friendly. Only downside is it can be quite cold inside during winter with no protection from the door constantly opening. Also tough to find a seat even on a quieter night. Would definitely come back and recommend to others though. read more

One of the best establishments in Berkeley. In a city that's always busy, I felt instantly comfortable and welcomed by the warm and hospitible staff. Terrible service .Our server took our 8 wing order and sent us 2 wings and then once we clarified the problem it took another 40 minutes of not having our wings order and then we finally left and never got our wings and was watching everyone else get served around us. i have worked 8+ years as a food server and bartender and it sucks when service is as poor as this. read more

So, of course, I had to grab the ahi tuna bowl. and my oh my, that was delicious!!!!! So many places with tuna, don't serve it with Won Ton chips, but Roses on Adeline got the memo! I love a won ton chip and these were giant and perfect with my fish. The fish came in a lovely sauce. So perfect! Such a great spot! I had a great time chatting it up with Aurora and eating yummy food. I love finding places that are somewhat nearby because it gives me a great excuse to come again.

They made sure we had everything we needed and our drinks was to our likings, she was very very informative about our drinks, what was in it, and she even had great detail to the things we wanted/looking for in our drinks. It can fill up really quickly, since the area to order a drink, dance, and mingle is narrow, since the bar is literally in the middle of the room. Some of the staff can be extremely nice and kind, and there are some who you can tell are fed up, upset, and don't have the best attitude. I get it, though. It's a cool bar to check out or be the first stop of the night. The djs they have always turn up. Good luck getting a drink under 15 minutes though!

I was not causing a disturbance, and there was no reason for physical contact. Being grabbed so aggressively was uncomfortable and unprofessional. I hope management addresses this issue and speaks with the security staff about appropriate ways to interact with guests. First impressions matter, and this interaction immediately impacted my experience.

And the burger was a complete joke. Their "special sauce" is just cheap mayonnaise mixed with some of that cheap ketchup (that is probably from a huge can from the top corporate food distributor.) People listing that this is one of their favorite burgers are really missing out on some experiences in life, or they're eating them after their third double IPA... It's a beautiful place, great yard area. But the food needs to open a new document and start again. I can't believe how much it cost for how horrible it was. I'm in shock.

Had an amazing experience here with Sam, shes super knowledgeable about their spirits and can easily tell you exactly what you'd like just by asking a few questions, you don't get that type of care from many places. Also props to her because she was alone and handled a pretty busy bar and made sure everyone was acknowledged plus felt welcomed. She recommended her favorite burger the truffle burger and we got the ghost fries and brussel sprouts on the side, safe to say everything was absolutely delicious. Do not judge this place as 'bar food' because it can easily surpass some restaurants when it comes to overall quality. Had one of the best times in a bar in a long time! Was there before a football game at UC Berkeley and all I can say is I will be back anytime I'm in town. Sam was absolutely amazing, she was alone and got hit with a group of about 40 of us ( sorry Sam!) but the way she controlled the room and made sure everyone was seen and never waited more than 5 minutes was truly impressive. They had great deals for happy hour. with us being sick a big party we got everything on that menu and not once this disappointed. The food is not your average 'bar food' it's actually really good and the drinks are made to perfection! This establishment is gorgeous. The bartender named Michelle is absolutely incredible. Her drinks are delicious and her music taste is perfect.
