Our group of 14 was fortunate enough to choose the Tipsy Bear Bistro for a recent family birthday event. We sat in the semi-private room and it was just perfect. Maddy was our server and she was the best, and her support staff were all very friendly and attentive as well. The owner popped in a few times to make sure that we had everything we needed and to thank us for being there. All 14 of us agree, and that's not always easy to do, that the outstanding food, exemplary service, and quaint atmosphere made our experience there a night to remember. read more

Went for lunch Friday on our way up north. Delicious! Too many good things to choose from on the menu. So we stopped by again on Sunday on our way home. The staff are so nice and friendly! Fantastic meal! Burger was great, top 5 for me. Our group ate the brisket grilled cheese, blackened prime rib salad, and grilled cheese and tomato soup. Delicious food in downtown West Branch. We had no idea this place was so good! We were seated immediately and had drinks on the table within a couple of minutes of arriving. I ordered the super green sauté and with some dietary restrictions. The staff was more than willing to accommodate. My husband had the jambalaya. Both were outstanding! Our waitress was friendly, helpful, and quick. Definitely going back again and again. The only reason I gave this four stars is because it's a old neighborhood bar that still has that feel of a local "divey" bar. read more

I was at Tipsy Bear last week with 6 other ladies. We typically come every 3 months as a group and have loved it in the past. We were shocked at the service we received as far as the extra charges.....we were charged for the lemon, that was placed on the table, and when asked how they knew who actually had lemon in their water she informed us that she came in and looked at each one of our glasses to confirm who had taken a lemon wedge. We were not told of a charge for lemon prior to getting our bill! Then when 2 ladies asked for a little more soy sauce as their dishes didn't have enough there was an additional $.50 charge on the bill with no explanation until we asked. Then we each had an addition 15% charge on each bill for a "service fee" that everyone gets when you have 6 or more in your party! Were was never told that prior to coming in. So anyone that comes in with 3 couples (6 people) or more will be assessed that 15% fee. The waitress does not get this fee the management does. One lady in our party had ordered a carry and on top of the "carry out" fee they added 15% to that bill as a "service fee" and he wasn't even there!!! They literally added a service fee to someone who wasn't even there. When we approached the manager with our concerns she was just very defensive and unapologetic. We will never eat at Tipsy Bear again. We felt that all these charges were very unnecessary and very greedy on their part and not a good way to treat their loyal customers. read more

Party of five, we were seated in a "walled off" section, but didn't feel part of the crowd. The scallops and quesadilla small plates were fantastic. The calamari was perhaps over sauced, little soggy ish. The bruschetta needs improvement but we recommend the scallops. The pan fried boneless wings were ok, nothing to write home about. The Sangria was GOOD and you should try it!! Altogether, give it a try. As they mature, I think there is greatness in there somewhere. Little more smiles and pleasantries from the staff would go a long way. They aren't as comfortable in the menu as they WILL be. Be patient and casual. read more

Lucky Find!!! We are so happy we found this hidden gem. The chef, Fred, really knows his art. The food was absolutely delightful. Remarkably delicious flavors and quality. We especially loved the kabobs and sushi tuna. Oh, and the green onion soup was phenomenal. Not only was everything delicious, but was reasonably priced, as well. We stopped here on our way down state and it was just a short drive from I-75. Our waitress was very friendly and seated us outside in the front. Our dog was allowed to sit with us. We had the Lettuce wraps, grilled cheese and tomato bisque, make your own burger, grilled chicken gyro and fries, between the 4 of us. All the food was delicious with fresh ingredients and homemade sauces and the hamburger bun was baked locally. Great choice all around!! read more

Hidden gem if you're traveling up North. Take the extra five minutes to trek into downtown West Branch...you'll thank yourself. Food is very well prepared. Menu is pleasantly diverse without being pretentious. Jambalaya, coconut shrimp and creamy chicken tortellini at lunch were all VERY delicious. Great, fast service. This place is definitely worth the stop in West Branch. Stopped there on the way to Grayling. It was recommended by some family members. The staff was so friendly and the food was great. Ahi tuna was okay, they had a steak that was listed as a ribeye, prime rib. I looked it up and it is a ribeye cut from a prime rib and cooked Very thin, not medium rare. Asked for horse radish, butter for steak. Mustard for fries. Got horse radish, bad, mustard ok, never got butter. Still fine experience until the check came, gave them my card and total changed by 4% they charge an additional 4 per cent for credit cards or debit cards, disclosure it based on some 8.5 x 11 sheets of paper by the front door facing as you are leaving. Charge me more but give a thicker steak and no surcharge for card. Will be contacting attorney general about procedures for cards. Total bs. read more

If you want gourmet food at family dining prices look no further. The menu is so good it's hard to make a choice. My goal is to travel over 2 hours here as many times this year to eat everything on the menu before December 31. Throw in a pretty diverse wine and beer menu and you have got the perfect formula. This place is local, has food that exceeds the expectations for a local's place, carry out, and near shopping in town. Try the cheese bread (w/ ranch for dipping b/c their ranch is AMAZING). We dont get to visit often, as we live down state, but when we are in town for hunting season, Tipsy Bear is a spot we make sure to visit. The first restaurant I tried when I moved to WB last year and I've been back countless times since. Fred and his crew floored me with their tasty menu. In a small town that delivers often-bland and tasteless entree options, everything I have tried here has been from good to phenomenal. My go-tos are the super green sautée, the sesame crusted seared ahi tuna, and any sort of meat Fred prepares is perfect. See you at the next wine tasting release party and/or the next chef's dinner - make sure you get your tickets while they last! Brenda, the manager, is always very sweet and welcoming, and can help you with that. I plan on hosting my next company dinner here. In their semi-private room. Stopped for a beer and an appetizer on our trip from the cottage to the big city. It looked inviting, loved the name, it was clean with paper on the table over the table cloth..... classy presentation. We chose bottle beer and what they had on the menu wasn't in the cooler? We made alternate choices to basic bottles boring grocery store brand beer. The menu was enticing and we chose the "calamari and tentacles". They served it warm ..... it was white like they thawed it but did not cook it, and they served a cup of melted butter with some colorful veggies chopped it it... they tasted like butter. Just left... Very disgusted with the food. I ordered there main dish for $16 thinking i was getting a good meal. No! It looked horrible and it was cold. I will next time buy a tv dinner because thats exactly what this was. The male server/manager was so rude. Asking why the food was so terrible as we explained he tried telling us different. My mom spit the chicken lettuce wraps out. If that tells you anything. The chicken nachos tasted like rubber and had very little toppings. The burger tasted tasteless. No seasoning flat maybe purchased from Save Alot. The bun was good. The restaurant looks horrible and the staff look lost. We had to ask them to come to our table.
