Sometimes you have to dig deep. After 2 failed attempts with IVF, some friends found ourselves in…read morea financial pickle. With a new job and scrambling to get back on their feet, they needed to pull out all the stops and see what they could do to scrape things together. With their credit in shambles and having just a little bit to get by to get their head above water, my friend did his research and resorted to the dreaded of all loan types - a car title loan. Collateral based loans can be tricky. Having worked in the financial industry for the latter part of my career, when my friend told me about it, I cringed. But I promised to help as best as I could by lending what financial wherewithal I could give. Of all the car title loans that we could scour the internet, one came up consistently on top with its reviews and reputation. I accompanied my friend and we were greeted by Maggie. She did a quick evaluation of my friend's vehicle (paid off and luxury model) and was able to secure a loan in excess of $5k. Here's the kicker - the interest rate was only 9%. In Las Vegas. I couldn't believe it. He and I combed through the internet together, calling banks and credit unions - only to be presented with offers that started at 16%. One offer came back at 32%. Highway robbery, if you ask me. As can be expected, he and I went through the terms carefully and saw that it was legit. While this experience wasn't directly my own, I feel like I can make a personal recommendation due to my close involvement to help my bud out of a bad situation. I highly recommend Maggie and USA Money.

I visited this location looking for a loan. I walked into the location and the representative asked…read more"Are you "Blanks" brother?" I told her no because I'm aware of my rights as a consumer that family connections should not be part of the decision making process when it comes to consumer lending. The representative went back in the office and talked to her boss. She came out and called me a liar in front of everyone. She said they were a small business and would not lend to me. I have very limited connection to my brother and I don't own his mistakes. It's also a completely illegal and discriminatory lending practice. I understand they are a small business but being a small business does not give them the right to violate privacy agreements with customers, not follow fair lending practices and operate outside of the law. Disclosing to me that I'm unable to get a loan due to my brother owing them violates his privacy. Making a lending decision based on family connections violates fair lending and can be seen as a discriminatory lending practice in itself. I tried explaining this to the representative. In my mind I was trying to give a pass that she may have just been young and a bit immature yet she should've at least been respectful to me. She called me a "liar" several times and was extremely rude. Even with this I tried to deescalate the situation. I tried get her to understand it's not about a loan but you can't do what you do thats illegal. I went back to a previous lender and because I have been a great customer they gave me money to fit my short term needs. I also feel more secure that my financial information would be secure and not shared. Now that my needs are met it's not about me it's about the fact they serve a community that may not be the most sophisticated and would be subject to discriminatory lending practices as well as the privacy agreement not being honored. This to me is not right or fair. I'm looking at going to the OCC a government agency that deals with these matters. I would advise people to stay away. Protect you personal financial information . The lady seemed so immature and retaliatory I was frankly worried to leave a compliant. Yet I can lawyer up and take them to court if they do anything with my information . Yet others aren't so fortunate.
