I came into the store today it was incredibly packed, there were no shopping carts to be found anywhere. The wonderful customer service team members were busy and doing everything that they needed to do. I had the wonderful opportunity to meet debbie from Modesto who went out of her way to get me a shopping cart from the outside parking lot. I cannot get over the incredible customer service I have received from this store! I had purchased a whole bathroom collection last night at bed bath and beyond I am returning all of that and buying everything in the store today instead because of the amazing customer service that I received! I am getting $200 plus in shopping today rather than coming in for small items because of debbie from Modesto! My go to place for candles, lotion, and dog beds. I cycle through them pretty quickly and you'd be impressed with the stuff TJ Maxx has that is good quality and cheap! This store carries a variety of brand named items, and it way more organized than the Fremont location. Cheap phone cases, rugs, birthday cards, socks, you name it! 4 stars because the cashier end can be pretty short and not very friendly at all, and the bathrooms are pretty nasty. read more

I'm not the biggest fan of stores like this, yet at the same time you'd be surprised about the special little treats you find for a decent price. This store and Ross are also the only places I can go for a great fitting affordable pair of plus-sized jeans! If you're plus-sized and on a budget, I know you feel me! I got the greatest pair of plus sized work out leggings here. Not the biggest fan of the quality of their plus-sized shirts and blouses, but again, as said above, there are some happy surprises that come along and you might find a well-made blouse or shirt at a decent price. Bah humbug! Will someone please tell me why most TJ Maxx stores are condensing the women's section? Why o' why is this happening? I stopped in on Sunday because I can never just walk pass a TJ Maxx without my curiosity getting the best of me, but was unimpressed with the lack of curvy wear. Even the signage was minimal. Women's wear had a small black sign on the ONE rack while active, juniors, men's, etc had large pink signs luring you to their plentiful stock of sizes, colors, textures and name brands. The home department is always lovely. I can never have enough candles or English bulldog knickknacks. Maybe I'll come back and give it a second chance but fool me once shame on you, fool me twice- shame on me! read more

My mother & I were soooo excited that a TJ Maxx was opening close to us. We drive all over the Bay Area to shop at the best TJ MAXX, Homegoods & Marshall's stores (better suggestions below). We were so disappointed when we found out they advertised their grand opening in the Sunday paper on the Sunday it opened, so it was too late for is to attend. In hindsight, this poor planning was a clear indicator on how they would continue to conduct business over the next few weeks. We've stopped by this location twice since it's opening & have been disappointed both times. Especially for a brand new store, the employees have no sense of urgency at the registers, they r absent on the sales floor, so if u need any assistance u would have to wait in the ridiculously long line at the register. The employees u do encounter on the sales floor r more interested in talking to each other about the details of their personal life than filling up the empty racks, rounders & shelves. With the economy not fully recovered u would think management would select the most qualified adults to employ. Not the case. This place seems to already be mismanaged due to poor employee selections & inadequate stocking of empty shelves. I usually love TJMaxx but no matter how often I come to this location I almost never find things I like. There's nearly always a really long line to check out. I've seen numerous people change their minds about buying things just because of the wait, and I have as well. There's almost never a person at the jewelry counter. I don't mind this location but I feel there needs to be more workers cleaning up the store. I understand the type of store it is but everything is scattered everywhere. Obviously people aren't the most organized but if there aren't enough employees to keep the store clean then you need to hire more. Each time I come into TJ Maxx which is regularly (maybe 2x a month) I feel that it just keeps getting messier and messier. You practically have to dig through stuff certain departments. The TJ Maxx in Fremont is never like this. It always well kept. Although their prices are slightly higher than Ross I feel like their brands are a bit better. This is probably one of my favorite TJ Maxx's. Nestled in the middle of Castro Valley I always feel like this one is kind of hidden away. Like any TJ Maxx it can be hit or miss when finding stuff, but I've found some really good things here. I've bought a couple of dress pants here and I've scored a ton of great work out shirts and socks. I would say the place is very well kept (it does get messy after a crowd comes through, but I always see them cleaning up the place) and the staff is friendly. I have been a residence of Castro Valley for 19 years. I was looking forward to the opening of this store! since all we have is Ross. Don't get me wrong it has been a solid stop for quick presents. I took my mother who is 85 to the grand opening and it was a disaster! It was very crowded (which was to be expected) but I guess because the store is so very small compared to the other TJ Maxx - Marshall stores I have been too. People in general were rude! The employees did not impress me, especially on the Grand Opening! I left within 30 minutes because we just could not get around or close enough to see anything! I waited a couple weeks for the newness to die down. I headed back..still not impressed!! The shelves, cloths, shoes were a mess not in the correct size area or just vacant space where items should be. All the cloths look as though they were just taken from a packed box (very wrinkled) not steamed to make the items look presentable. And the employees are just on another time frame... as though they are being made to be there and just not very engaging or helpful. EXCEPT, for one African American young man, tall, slim (hope this helps management narrow him down) very pleasant, very helpful. I was in the next isle over and overheard him asking people if they needed help, how they are doing today and if they needed any more help not to hesitate to ask! I really wish I could have seen his name tag so I could have given him the praise he so very much deserves! He is the ONLY employee that I heard sounding so gracious. Every other employee on the floor NOT once, asked me or anyone that was around me, if I or they needed help or even to smile and say hello. Sad to say, I will not go back! I will stay shopping locally at Ross (which over Manages TJ MAXX 100%) I prefer to keep my dollars in the town where I reside but I just can not shop here! if I need to go to a Marshalls-TJ Maxx I will go else where. I went to return something that I purchased from a Home Goods/TJMaxx store. Was informed I couldn't do that even though the items purchased were from the TJMaxx side. I even called the manager of the original store I purchased at, put her on speaker phone, she informed the cashier on how to do it...and the cashier STILL refused to return the non used, tags still attached and receipt in hand items. New merchandise every day, what to NOT buy is the only problem that I have with this amazing Castro Valley gem! The worst was the jewelry counter person (an African American lady) No where to be found and when she was there she gave me some kind of attitude when I asked to see some bracelets. I've always had a good experience at this TJ Maxx. It is clean, organized and the employees have always been friendly and helpful when I need. I especially love their jewelry department and always make some good finds there! My boyfriend loves the home goods section. My boyfriend and his family are long time residents of Castro Valley and were super excited for this location to open as there was very little shopping in CV beforehand. The Ross used to be decent but the last 3 or 4 years has had practically nothing on its shelves/on its racks and what they had was never that great. But Ross overall has gone downhill in selection. TJ Maxx is so much better and the stores are so much cleaner and bright. Always a pleasant experience! Sidenote: I'm not sure how one person can complain about the hours of operation. Many, many retail businesses open later on Sundays. Its pretty much standard practice. Also, even at TJ Maxx's with all registers open, the lines are long, but go by very quickly. Every type of store like this (discounted goods) has a long line. with 7.4 million people alone living in the SF Bay Area and a lot of them wanting a good deal, you're going to wait in lines at places because you're not the only person shopping that moment. I always find my favorite organic and natural bath/beauty products here. They have a decent selection of workout attire and gym accessories (light weights, kettle bells, water bottles, etc). I love TJ Maxx: their selection, prices, organization and even customer service. However, I would have to give only 2 stars for this branch. I came back to return an MK watch at the jewelry section. I have brought everything: the watch in its original box, the receipt, with all the tags and links intact. The watch has been unused and stayed on the box since bought. The staff helped me however, it solely relied on the manager-on-duty's discretion , who at that time was Joe, if he'll accept the return or not. They checked the watch and the receipt and sure enough they knew it was in pristine conditoon, however he declined the return. I totally understand since it was passed the 30-day mark, however at least give me store credit. I checked on the return policy online and it states that given past the window, a store credit may be given, I even phoned Alameda branch to make sure, and sure enough, they can accept it. Always walk out with a good deal. Their store is usually messy and unorganized however, if you go in the mornings it's very peaceful. You're able to look for things without other shoppers in your way. Nice yoga leggings & great gym gear. Wish they carried more high end products like ABH! read more

Worst customer service ever. Been here numerous occasions and every time I am intimidated and discriminated against my race and or gender. The lady in the jewelry department is always rude and intimidating. I was there April 4, 2019, and had the worst customer service in my life. I was in handbags, jewelry and then cosmetics. Elisa and Brissa treated Me as If I was a thief. My Mother and Daughter were shopping near by and the Manager on Duty had informed Me I was already told not to try on the make up. In fact, make up had already been used and opened like most Marshalls, and TjMaxx cosmetics. Terrible work ethics. These employees at Castro Valley TjMaxx need to learn work ethics, customer service skills, and hospitality. The make up section is limited and disgusting, the lady in jewelry is often rude and unfriendly. I wish they would hire experienced managers, and quality employees. I have zero tolerance for aggressive people and the Manager on Duty approached me to intimidate Me. Another complaint I will add is they change prices to discourage people to shop, and lie. Things are so expensive here that I'd skip the store entirely and hop over to Ross just a few feet away. I've lived in Castro Valley for a few years, and was very excited to hear TJMaxx was coming to town! I didn't want to deal with the grand opening, so I went in Tuesday morning, around 10am. First, I noticed the store was much smaller then many others. The store was a complete mess. It looked like a "going out of business" sale, rather than a grand opening. The racks were half empty and nothing was organized. The staff was not friendly or helpful. The store looks worse than Ross, next door. Very disappointing! Very disappointed that this store does not honor their return policy. I purchase a suitcase before my trip learning that the merchandise back wheel is broken. I have called customer service to find out what return policy is returning the matter and told that as long as I have the receipt which I did I should be able to return item to store. Went to this location that I bought item and tried to return and manager on duty (Ronnie) said because they are a discounted store that the item can not be return to them. This TJ Maxx is not as large as the others but packs quite a few goodies. I picked up a pretty tea set for mothers day. Wished they had more of a selection of pots and pans as I was looking for a sauce pan. But lots of bikinis and designer stuff. Very quick at the check out line and everyone is friendly. read more

And when it is 5-10 mins away from their close they try to herd you up front to a 6 person line to hurry up and wait while one cashier checks out your purchase. I consider myself a Maxxonista, I'm in and out of San Carlos, Rheem, San Ramon, Dublin, and Alameda every 2 weeks for my Staging business...apparently Castro Vly location cares more about their time than mine, I was told high price point items (any merch over $100.00) needs to be returned to original store/location of purchase, None of the other store have ever pulled that card before. I felt the need to post this review since this was my 4th bad experience at this store, coincidently (2 of 4 times) it's been with the same two people. This store as most tj Maxx stores, is a hit or miss. I've never had issues with the friendliness of the employees, parking or finding anything in the store. There's been a handful of times that I'll come by and leave with nothing. Although I can't hold that against the store itself. Knock it down a mark for the cleanliness. I feel the kitchen area is a mess most of the times. Things are thrown around in the area and I don't get why it's never organized. If I could give this place no stars I definitely would just based off of their customer service and one of their employees name Brissa. I came in to do a return on an item that me and my daughter had bought for one of her little friends at school. We obviously took the sticker off of the item because it was a gift and when we did I noticed when wrapping later on that day the piece was damaged. So I went back A few days later to try to do the return. The woman that help me on the cash register was really sweet,But I guess you need to call a manager. Brissa Came up to the register first didn't even acknowledge me only acknowledged her staff didn't even say one word to me. Her and the person from the register we're going back-and-forth having a conversation about the item that I was returning there was two items that I was returning. After a few moments finally I was spoken to but not by her by the person on the register and when I didn't understand why they weren't returning the item then she decided that she wanted to talk. So this is what happened the first item they tried to tell me it was a different item on the receipt that it in fact was not and they actually had that same item in the store and I could prove to them that the price was what it was. So she returned it and the second item that I have the sticker also taken off of it she told me that it didn't match what was on the receipt. I told her I bought both of these items at the same exact time. She told me well it doesn't match rolled her eyes and said I'll call someone from that department called the person from the department. She asked the person have you ever seen this in your department and the person was looking at it was like I don't know no I don't think so. So you have all the stuff in the store and you remember every single item. I find that hard to believe as a business owner I don't even know every single item that's inside of my own business. So then she refused the return would not tell me the managers name. Never gave me any contact information for a district manager but they give me the 800 number for T.J. Maxx and wrote her name down. After going back-and-forth with her and her mannerisms and her just being rude rolling her eyes and acting like I was bothering her. I told her that she was rude I explained to her that I had been in her store now for the last few weeks and I have Bought something almost every single day to the point that the staff know who I am in the store. I explain to her I've spent a good $400 in the store to do a remodel and I can just return all of the stuff back if this is the kind of customer service that I'm going to receive. She told me that's fine you can do whatever you want to do but I'm not returning the item. So I told her actually I didn't even tell her I was on the phone with somebody and while I was on the phone with the person I said to the person on the phone these people got me fucked up and I would be miserable as fuck to you if I had to have a shitty job. And I walked out next day I called corporate and they told me that I could return the items and I didn't have to go to the same store if I didn't want to. I got the name of the manager who is running the store for the time being I called eight times in a row no answer called another five times in a row no answer called another time pressed for six times finally got through asked to talk to the gentleman that I was told to speak to you he's not coming in for a week supposedly talk to the person on the phone who Kept asking me if I had an altercation with the staff member in the store which only lead me to believe that this is something that was talked about previously in the store. I explain the situation then all of a sudden they wanted to do the return for me which I'm never walking back in your store ever again so I will take my return and go take it somewhere else. After going home and figuring out how much money I actually did spend in that store it was 674.58 ..... That's crazy and that's only in that store. I've never had this kind of issue in any of their other stores before at all. I will not be coming into the store I will definitely be letting people know that I know that did shop in the store not to shop in the store. Instead of really figuring out the issue and having great customer service the only thing that that person was worried about on the phone is if I had an altercation with her employee. I would suggest to hire a new employee to replace that employee and maybe be more concerned about your customers and how rude they are treated by your staff. read more
