I only shop at The MAXX for household knick knacks I haven't been lucky in finding clothes that I like. However, I am traveling out of the country in a few months and I have been looking for things that I need such as scale, neck rest and so on well I have traveled to other competitors and TJ Maxx always has the goods plus the prices are cheaper than others. This place has an amazing collection! However, you do have to be pretty consistent with your visits to find the really good deals or the really nice bags, jewelry, and shoes in your size. They also carry MK watches and jewelry which is hard to find since they sell out fairly quickly. I don't generally find cute clothes but when I do, they are great buys! I have found really nice, swear wicking workout tanks for as low as $2.99. I also like their car accessory options. I am new to TJ Maxx. The floor staff are very friendly. The woman who works at the dressing room is a lot of fun. I stop by everytime I'm in the area. They have a wonderful selection of tops in my style. If it weren't for the heavy pressure at the checkout line I would give this store a 5 star rating. I feel like I am in a live info commercial then! Most of the checkers try to sell you a credit card, a rewards card, a shopping bag and then want your change to donate. The entire time I am saying no I am not interested in anything you try to sell me. They respond with 'are you sure' then try to convince me why I should be. I'm sure they either get a bonus for everything we say yes to or they have strict rules about selling at the counter. I am already spending a lot of money to support this place. I am deeply offended by the high pressure sales pitches at the counte. We are inundated with marketing in todays times. I wish I could have an hour to myself without someone trying to convince me I need to buy something I don't want. Well, I went back and left with no purchases. I'm petite, as are a large number of people in Davis, but they had zero petite women's clothes. We asked where the petite section was and the staff admitted that there was none and if there were any petite sized clothes they'd be hung with regular sizes, but they didn't have many anyway. I had recently spent a little too much at GAP and hoped to find cheaper alternatives here before cutting any price tags off and sealing the deal. I called them as a long shot and the person who answered the phone and manager Kayla told me they would exchange for me. Customer Service I would rate as a ZERO. The manager at the front (who unfortunately I didn't get the name of) was a total rude B*$#@. They are famous for their hassle free returns. She did not try at all to help me with my return, or show any kind of care to my issue. I didn't have the receipt but all the tags were on the clothing. The only reason it's getting 3 stars is because I enjoy shopping at TJ Maxx in general. This location doesn't have the wides selection in Kids or Mens departments. Most of the store is Womens, which being a woman is OK with me, but I do have a family so can't shop for all of us there which sucks. read more

While looking at purses a sales person came running out of a side door and she jumped right in front of me. She then took a purse and flung it right over her shoulder and started modeling the purse in front of me and said " see you can wear it this way and that way". It was so rude & super weird! So I never bought a purse from there. Today I went back because I like TJmax but the sales people seem off & so weird at this TJM. Today's experience consisted of a yelling 4 year old boy. It really hurt my ears....so I had to leave the area but the screaming child's voice was giving me a headache. They've been having lots of high end make up here for cheap! Keep on the look out every now and then. I scored Anastasia cream and powder contour palettes for 50% off and I've seen lip palettes. Obviously the selection changes often but great place to find high end make up. Just be careful because sometimes the packages have already been open and swatched. read more

I've never posted a yelp review before in my life, but my time at the Davis TJ max from a customer service standpoint was simply unacceptable. My fiancé and I came into the store looking to grab some new polos for my work and like any store went to try them on to make sure they fit. I had a good amount to try on so she came in the room with me to help decide which fit or not , to rehang the " yes's"and the "no's" etc. This process went on 2 times, grab clothes check in with the lady monitoring the dressing rooms , then go look for more. On no occasion did the lady monitoring the dressing rooms ask us not to go into the dressing room together, so we were unaware that it was an issue since many stores we've done this with no issues at all. (So assuming we'd been going in and out of the dressing room thus far without any issues we believed tj max to be ok with this , and on top of that there was no sign at all mentioning not more than 2 per dressing room). On our third time in the dressing room trying on the final few shirts, we hear a loud knock on the door. I say "we're in here " the man outside is now very upset that we're both in the room and demands we open the door because we could be doing "sexual things in there" (ok I understand this point totally but if this was an issue from the beginning why wasn't I informed by the person monitoring the dressing room ??! She saw us going in and out together the past 15 minutes ) . Anyway instead of just being a respectful sales rep and politely asking her to leave he was extremely rude and I could tell she was very embarrassed. I put on my shirt and left the dressing room shortly after. I then looked at the entrance of the dressing room trying to find a sign or something showing where I had broken these rules , there wasn't one , and I asked the lady in the front saying my fiancé got very embarrassed from what just happened and she apologized ( very nice lady ) then the man who had shooed us out approached us and I was just looking for an explanation for the treatment, he just very shortly said "it's common sense" in a very humiliating manner cause a matter a fact it was NOT common sense since most stores in fact HAVE let us try on fits together so just making me feel like an idiot is not a very good way to approach this. I explained other stores sometimes don't have this policy he just continued to say "it's common sense" . At this point I'm just done with the conversation and I say "it was just embarrassing because we didn't know and you treated us poorly *verbatim* " then he says back in a very snappy manner "we'll is that OUR policy ?" Well I guess not which I have no problem with but please enforce your policy from the get go , don't just march in and kick us out and treat us terribly. Have a sign stating your policies , or have the person running the changing room enforce the policies from the beginning. After a little more exchange he simply said "well frankly I don't really care *verbatim* . I know this doesn't sound like much but the overall experience was just very humiliating and the staff member handled the situation with extreme unprofessionalism. Just left the store feeling like such human trash after my interaction with the employee that I just had to share my experience of this poor poor handling of customer service. In the end, even though we did "break the rules of common sense" if the man had just respectfully asked us to not be in the dressing room together , I would have no issues and in fact be apologetic, just the lack of disrespectful treatment makes me truly saddened. Don't get me wrong, this is a nice store, but I would have to say, they need to learn how to treat their employees better. Especially when they hire young people who have never had a job before and right out of high school and their season is over, don't tell them that "don't get another job because we will be calling you for help" and then turn around and hire another group of people. Tell them the truth, if their not working out, or what they need to work on so when they do get another job they know what to work on. This is called learning! Worst TJ Maxx I've been to. Register person always treats customers snotty for asking for a store-credit return without a receipt, which shouldn't happen. The return policy posted behind the register clearly states that returns without receipts will be given in the form of a store credit. Yet they feel the need to interrogate you as if you are trying to lie or work the system. Manager/supervisor on duty also has the same snotty attitude- which explains why the sales associates feel they can talk to and treat customers the way they do. When I ask why I am being asked for the last digits of the card used when I am willing to take a store credit as the return policy sign states, they have bullshi* answers. The merchandise had all their tags, was clearly unused/unworn and in perfect condition. Oh and might I add, the merchandise was purchased less than 24 hours ago, I just lost the receipt in the process of sorting through shopping bags. Staff clearly does not have the right to decide how I receive my refund considering it's my money and I'll use it how I want to. They also did not like being told that they should abide by their return policy, nicely posted and bold, instead of haggling the customer. And overall, the same register girl has had crappy service numerous times. There are much more professional and nicer associates here, not quite sure why she is up front. I would give less than 1 star if possible. read more

I went here for the first time today and yay! So happy because they are super organized! But they didn't have a wide selection, nor did they have anything with that much of a reduction in price. I'd find a decent sweater for like $30 but why would I buy that when I can buy something better for around the same price elsewhere. I liked their shoe selection, though. I am a bit bias when it comes to TJ Maxx. I can spend hours in the home goods area. Yes, the store can look smaller in comparison to the chains other locations. But let's be real. Davis itself isn't that huge of a city. Having a ginormous TJ Maxx would be nice, but definitely not mandatory. The store itself is very much organized and I appreciate that a lot. I've been to multiple locations before and some weren't too easy to locate items. That being said, TJ Maxx is like a shopping scavenger hunt. You may find amazing stuff and leave with your hands full, or absolutely nothing. The inventory seems to be restocking quite frequently, even if I go week after week sometimes. I have scored one of my favorite fashion items here, MK watch. I love it dearly and it was such a great deal. Back to the home goods isles. OMG. I love this isle so much. Kitchenware makes me want to buy everything but I can't find much use for them as a college student, despite being an avid baker. Decorations, beddings, furnitures, etc seem to be an inventory of items that I usually will not find in other locations easily. That may be due to Davis not being such a busy town in comparison to SoCal locations I usually go to when I'm back home. But it's nice to have a go-to home goods place :D read more

I'm a Maxxinista, meaning i'm signed up with their rewards program. You get 5% back with all purchases! All your favorite brands for much less than you will find at other retail stores. TJ Maxx is like the more classy Ross. I don't really have to shop anywhere else for clothes anymore. Yeah sure you may not find the gems all the time but if you shop here often you'll find some really good stuff! Plus they even have kitchen items, electronics, and all kinds of accessories! This TJ Maxx is really hit and miss. Sometimes I will find really nice things, like Calvin Klein underwear, or polo tshirts. Other times I can not find anything, and everything seems out of season. Today because of the storm, I was really trying to find an umbrella so that I could walk around school without getting drenched, much to my surprise, I could not find one at all. return refused on a like new $50 6.5 quart soup pot purchased 4 days before return. was used 1 time and food had a metallic taste. i thought this was unsafe to use or defective. i contacted the manufacturer prior to making a decision to return and was told they used differing metals and could not say what metals were used. hispanic female making decision said i was returning a wet, used item. the item was not wet. i thought she was irrational and unpleasant. also, buyer beware. sometimes small kitchen tools with multiple components are missing components. i noticed a $6 jar opener priced at $3.99 with 3 parts had only 1 part. read more

I purchased 3 barstools and was planning on taking them out to my car myself, but him and employee Jerome helped carry them out for me and spent a lot of time trying to put them in my Tiny car. I had to come back the next day and return them unfortunately because they were too tall, and Kevin took them out of my car and brought them in. Excellent service. Really interesting to read the previous review of the person who was able to make a return without the receipt and the box. I was not. I feel the same way: I hate myself for misplacing a receipt! But I charged the purchase on a credit card and know there is a record. Here is the thing, though: I bought two hair dryers to try them out. When I purchased them, I asked if I could return them if they did not work. I was told, yes. Two days later, I returned them both - without a receipt, shame on me! - because they were just nor right for me. The manager did a receipt search BUT I was then told that the store would not accept the return because I had opened the boxes (which were intact!), and had used the dryers. They did not let me return the two items. Not even for store credit. I am so bummed. I used to shop there all the time. NOT ANYMORE!!! Plus, I have a feeling I was discriminated against. I am European and speak with an accent. I will ask my American husband to try the return and see what happens. VERY UNHAPPY!
