You wander in for "just a couple things," maybe a box of Keurig pods to tide you over until tomorrow, and suddenly you're jingling through aisles of candles, cozy throws, and those little stocking stuffers that practically beg to jump into your cart. I'm sipping my coffee, dodging reindeer-themed mugs and peppermint-scented everything while my wife disappears into the clearance section like it's Narnia. I'm over here like, "Babe, let's go ..She's over there holding up a $4.99 snowman figurine like it's the Holy Grail. But honestly? That's the charm. TJ Maxx feels like Santa's bargain basement festive, fun, and full of surprises you didn't know you needed. Whether it's bathroom goodies, last-minute gifts, or just a quick caffeine emergency fix, this place has you covered with a warm, twinkling glow. Four stars from us, because nothing says Christmas spirit like saving a few bucks while hearing sleigh bells in your head and trying to wrangle your spouse out of the clearance aisle. read more

It's an OK TJ Maxx, they don't seem to have a good selection of things around certain times of the year. As over half the store was on clearance when I went. I suppose it's not their fault, they do not sell men's houseshoes, and they have a very limited selection of essential oils and things like that. It's a decent, typical TJ Maxx located on busy store lined SE 82nd, convenient when I'm running errands in that area. There is nothing unique about this location; it is the same merchandise as the other stores but always worth a walk through to see the latest styles in clothing, jewelry, housewares and decor. They have a large handbag section and if you search, you can find some designer bags. I always peruse the jewelry counter for great deals on sterling silver. In clothing, make sure to walk the entire department; I find options in Juniors as well as Women's and always make sure to check out the athletic area for leggings and swimsuits. During the Pandemic, once they opened, they are providing hand sanitizer, requesting customers to keep safe distancing through multiple signage as you walk in and throughout the store. Some aisles are one way as indicated by arrows on the floor. At checkout, the lines are obviously long because people are spaced out, but it moves relatively fast. They sanitize the counter in between every single transaction, which I appreciate. I came in to process a few online returns. Didn't find anything new even though there are tons of sales since the store still has merchandise from March, pre-Pandemic. In this new world where were are all tired of COVID-19 but COVID-19 has not tired of us, I just wanted to get in and out safely for my singular purpose. read more

Do not shop here if your EVEN appear black or your skin tone is one shade over tan. Or change your accent to someplace that speaks Spanish. I've worked both restaurant, retail, grocery. I've done this job. HOW is it that the Caucasian employees had NO problem with me shopping HOWEVER the ONLY two Hispanic employees 1) a manager 2) possible supervisor apparently thought I was an issue. I literally was here 5 days ago. Today I chatted with a couple Caucasian employees as they gave me suggestions and made simple nice conversation while I was on the phone with a relative. How is it that the manager only showed up when I was ringing and stood behind my cashier... I was dressed clean, makeup done, hair done. Had a freaking waistbelt for a purse. What exactly am I going to put WHERE?!? NEVER ENOUGH if you're the ONLY black person in the store who also works a full time job and likes to practice self care. So why not stop by TJ's on your day off to get a few more things to treat yourself. NOPE. YOU ARE THE SUSPECT....I'll be returning everything. Convenient location in a shopping center with a WinCo so you can check off your grocery list and clothes shopping. Prior to coming here, I went to other department stores on 82nd Ave and they were mostly empty after reopening. I was glad this store was still fully stocked as if nothing had changed. I ended up buying a stainless steel colander, which was decently priced at $8. It has sturdy grips on both sides, raised bottom platform, and can hold the piles of pasta that I intend to use it for. There was an employee wiping down the carts with sanitizing wipes along with a wipes dispenser nearby. I applaud their cautious procedures while making sure the shopping experience was normal as possible. The store layout was organized and clean. read more

I am a big fan of TJ Maxx and I go to this one a few times a week since it's the closest to me. Although I am a regular returning customer, I can't honestly give it 5 stars for a few reasons. 1. It is much smaller that other TJ Maxx locations I have shopped 2. The merchandise tends to get picked over and not restocked quickly enough 3.They are way too focused on looking out for shop lifters. I often see staff watching like hawks for shoplifting and talking to each other of the walkie talkies. It's super obvious and seems overly dramatic. I've never seen the police there or witnessed any sort of shoplifting event, so I am confused by their behavior. Otherwise...staff is generally very friendly and willing to help. Most are young adults working a part time job. They have men, women and children's clothing, a small furniture section (end tables and such), pet supplies (beds, toys, bowls), jewelry, luggage, beauty and cosmetic items, and housewares. I'm reviewing this location, because this is my frequent store, but it's about their ONE PRODUCT, read below. I've downgraded myself by shopping from Nordstrom's or other high end department stores to TJ Maxx, and with almost the same Customer Service you get from them very similar you get at TJ Maxx. But let me tell you, positives about TJ Maxx, so you will understand why I did that: 1. Their Credit Card, you don't need to spend 2,000 points to get a $20 Nordstrom Note. You get 200 points to earn $20. How about them apples! 2. Yesterday, I was looking at one brand @ Nordstrom, petite (since all of their pants are made for 5'9" women, the petite were perfect for us shorter women. When the clerk @ Nordstrom came to asked me, how was it, I told her "these pants were something I'd wear for jogging, but their not for business, and I'm very disappointed!" I've bought many dressier pants @ TJM for half the price they're selling @ N, and I was quite satisfied! But, those are just the two on my list. I'm sure there's more, I just don't want to write comparing TJM vs. high end. That's not what this review is all about! Here's the negative part: LEATHER JACKETS Made in India. No MATTER what brand, that I ordered in the mail as long as they're Made in India, they're all the same. I ordered several online, in various prices, colors, brands, styles, in my size. I was gonna keep 3 of them, but the smell was giving me a headache. I returned them all, and decided to go ahead & keep one jacket. (I've worn & bought Made in China, Italy, Australia jackets or locally made in the USA for 5 decades, I KNOW my LEATHER). I let that leather jacket air outside, in the garage, in the porch, in the backyard, and brought them back inside, and the smell was quite strong, it was still giving me a headache. I did that for the last 2 months, it is getting better, it is still not worn, but this is my only NEGATIVE about Made in India leather sold @ TJ MAXX. So, if the CEO can read this, please stick to your older vendors, and not go back to India vendors . . . or you'll be losing more customers! read more

This location is in between the crossing of ghetto and suburbia. I understand they probably get a mixture of customer walking through their door but discriminating due to their looks is not okay. I Experienced something that was undoubtedly disrespectful and was from their shift manager. I couldn't believe how she was talking to a customer and ROLLED HER EYES in the mist of a miscommunication. There's always a better approach to deal with customers even if you feel they may or may not be giving you a true answer. Please hire better managers. I love the brand but this location is disgusting due to this one staff member and SHE represents you guys as a whole and a company. read more

I bought a Samsonite carry-on suitcase for $99.00 at TJ MAXX in Happy Valley, Oregon. I usually keep receipts but in this case I didn't because I checked the outside zippers and they worked. I assumed that all the zippers, inside and out, would work. Silly me. A crucial inside zipper did not work. It is the type of suitcase that has several zipper compartments on both sides of the case inside to secure clothes and items. That's why I bought it. Long story short, because I did not have the receipt, I printed out the receipt from my credit card. To the clerk, she could plainly see that it matched the same luggage sold in the store and I had a copy of the charge with their logo blaring. My return was a day late because I had no need to use the suitcase until, coincidentally, day 31. So 31 days later, I tried to return the suitcase. I was one day late yet I clearly had proof and they clearly knew I bought the faulty suitcase from them. They would not let me return it, not even for store credit! TJ MAXX, in a world where customer service is key, and you compete with stores that excel in customer service, like Walmart, Costco, Amazon, etc, I'm not shopping at your stores anymore. PEOPLE don't shop at TJ MAXX. Customer service is non-existent. Shop at a store that cares about what they sell and will return a faulty item. read more

Very disappointed with this location. Went shopping yesterday and bought a simple $10 screen protector for my new phone. Immediately opening the package when I got in my car while still in the parking lot with the intention of placing it on my phone I discovered the package was empty. I walked back into the store, not more than 2 minutes after making my purchase and was treated like dirt. I explained to the cashier (Courtney P is what her nametag said) that I needed a different screen protector as the one I purchased was missing. She rudely barked for my receipt and I told her I threw it out while leaving the store (never thought I would need it again). It was slow in the store at about 11am on a Thursday, and I told her that I was literally the last person in the store and asked her if she could retrieve my receipt from an electronic journal on the cash register (as no other transactions had happened since mine on that register) and she refused.... Forcing me to literally dig through the trash in the front vestibule area to recover my receipt. I found the receipt and she begrudgingly did the exchange, but I did not appreciate 1) Being sold an incomplete product. 2) Being humiliated and having to dig through the trash, even though she witnessed me make the purchase 2 minutes prior and 3) Being treated so rudely by an associate. What should have been an in and out shopping trip cost TJ Maxx a very loyal customer. read more

I stopped by today to do some Christmas shopping for presents. I had a great experience overall, they have so many things I didn't think I could find there and for a great price. I was able to pretty much cover most of my Christmas shopping list. To top it off this girl in the jewelry department I think her name tag said Anna helped me pick out a beautiful heart bracelet for my mom. I came here after my mom gave me a $100 gift card. What a huge disappointment, I couldn't find anything I liked at all so I just bought a waterbottle and a sugar body scrub. Then I go to pay, and the cashier asked me to hand her the gift card, so I did. I waited for her to hand it back then she just looked at me and said she already did. I have always loved TJ Maxx. They just seem to get better brands, and their prices are just on par with Ross, Marshall's and even at times some high price thrift stores. This is the only TJ Maxx I've found close to PDX, and even though it's nestled into a busy area, it's worth the trip. I found fantastic housewares and bath wear. I was with my lover, so not so much time to check out the clothes, but in the past they've had great lingerie, clothing and shoes. Possibly the guiltiest of all my petite bourgeoisie pleasures, TJ Maxx is a treasure trove of treats for you and your home. Unpretentious and definitely without frills, this place is sure to please almost anyone who suffers from unfulfilled consumeristic desires. In comparison, I get overwhelmed and frankly, turned-off by the chaos of Ross, am ambivalent about Marshall's, and only go to the Rack for shoes or tights. I've been to a lot of TJ Maxx stores all over the country (and Winners, its Canadian counterpart) and while they are always a little on the dirty/messy side, I have never been phased by this because there is always a treat in store. It is preferable to find a TJ Maxx in a podunk town where few know anything about fine handbags and superior cookware, but the one on 82nd feels remarkaby not too picked-over considering its proximity to the city center. I'm not sure what I love more, going to TJ Maxx and seeing the same DKNY or Calvin Klein lingerie that Nordies sells for $90 for a mere $15, or 600 thread-count Egyptian cotton sheets for less than the dorm-room quality 250 thread-count sheets one can find at Target. If you're a housewares hoarder and/or have been compulsively nesting since the age of 11 as in the case of yours truly, then this is your place! Need a particular saucer to go with your discontinued Johnson Bros. china set? You're sure to find the pattern here...eventually. A lot of the stuff isn't the least bit blemished, but keep your eyes peeled for freakish mutations, as there are sometimes irregulars mixed-in with the overstocks. This particular TJ Maxx doesn't have the best shoe selection I've seen and variety in the ladies' dresses seem to wax and wane, but all-in all, this place has a lot to offer. read more
