I've always liked shopping at TJ Maxx however this location has gone downhill the past couple of years to be honest. And what I mean, going downhill, I mean the selection of items and it's become a bit u organized to a point where I feel as if it's not even worth it to walk-in TBH. I live nearby so I know for sure how it was last year and a couple of years ago and this is no exaggeration. I don't blame the employees and I'm not really blaming anyone however, leadership should probably do a better job during their team meetings. You do still get a good value on most of the items even with inflation. However, if I had to choose, I would probably shop at the other two local stores nearby that are similar to TJ Maxx since they typically carry better items, more organized etc. The staff usually is pretty helpful here though. just don't come during peak hours. You'll be in line for forever. The best thing about coming to this area, though the parking. I never have any issues. read more

For some reason I always get my hopes up for this place but I can never find what I want. And when I do, it's wildly expensive. But the things that I don't need are moderate prices and sorta bland. There are sections for babies, shoes, girls, junior, active, dresses, men, boys, intimates, home goods, clearance, bedding, bath, dining and more. I guess it's an okay store. And if you're looking to stage a house or decorate a room based off of a photo you saw on Pinterest then you'll be happy with this place. Bad customer service. I would give them 0 star if I could. At first my family were looking for the luggage, and we had a few laid out to decide on. While we were looking at some other potential suitcases, an employee (a guy) who came and put all of the luggage we were about to get back to the shelf which was so rude and disrespectful. And then when we check out at the cashier the lady works there gave me my change and did not hands me the money. I think the reviews speak for themselves. Every 3-4 months or so, I come here to stock up on things I need for the amazing prices. Obviously it makes sense that someone who doesn't really come in that often doesn't need a credit card. Well, you guessed where this is going. This Indian cashier lady really couldn't take no for an answer (didn't catch her name, but it may or may not be the one everyone's talking about). In the grand scheme of things, it all boils down to management punishing their cashiers for not reaching a Tj Maxx card quota. It's obvious, why else would a cashier beg me more than 3 times? That, I get, and truly empathize being a former sales person. But it's really interesting management didn't train this person to keep their cool after several no's from me lol. This TJ Maxx is a mess.. I bought a nice linen dress that was marked down and sold to me as a SINGLE item, I went home and tried it on but it was see through. I went back to exchange it for the blue version of the dress on the same clearance rack, but when I checked the tag it said "2 pc linen $49.99" it was just the dress so I figured the tag was wrong. I went to ask for an exchange and the woman at the counter told me no unless I want the random jacket they pulled out of nowhere. She then proceeded to refund and take my original dress. They were so rude, it's not my fault that your staff tagged the clothing wrong.. beware of the tags! read more

I've been coming here for years. But after covid, I got in the habit of not trying things on, so naturally I return 95% of items. All of the employees are great except the grumpy woman manager with the curly hair. Their tags are always incorrect or mislabeled on the garments. I came in with my 4 month old infant two weeks ago. The cashier said that my daughter "needs to eat more". While I don't think this comment was made with truly malicious intent, I find it very inappropriate to say that about anyone's infant, especially a stranger's, and ESPECIALLY a customer's. Not trying to spread a sob story but my baby and I had issues with feeding for the first 2 months of her life. It was horrible. She's now a perfectly healthy weight for her age, thank god. I rec'd a runaround at this store. Not happy. I had to return an item which was bought at Home Goods (jewelry box). Home Goods told me no problem return to either TJ Max or Marshalls since they are the same company. The website for Home Goods stated you could do this. I was told by the cashier to go over to Marshalls across the street. I was told they use to do returns a couple of years ago but not anymore. I recommended they update their website. Went to Marshalls and they also refused to do the same thing and told me to go to Home Goods. Also the service was very slow. I had the worst customer service experience of my life with "manager" Michael Lynch at the TJ Maxx in Carmel Mountain Ranch. I bought a pair of boots for $35 on December 12th. I wore them literally TWICE before the soles on both shoes fell apart completely, leaving my toes completely exposed and the soles flapping with every step. I have always had good experiences with TJ Maxx in the past, so my fiancé and I were certain the employees were reasonable and would be as shocked and appalled at the product defect as we were and readily issue us a refund. I am not one to ever rock the boat, but I agreed this was a clear cut case so I stepped out of my comfort zone and agreed it made sense to get a refund on these boots. We were out of town for a handful of days, so we returned to the TJ Maxx as soon as we got back--exactly one week from the day I purchased the boots (Dec 18th). I brought the disintegrating boots in the original TJ Maxx bag with the receipt (clearly showing the date of purchase (Dec 12th) and the store location (Rancho Carmel Dr. Rd.) and the purple size 8 sticker still in tact. The cashier we initially spoke to was appropriately shocked and understanding. She called the manager over to help us, which is where everything turned into a dumpster fire plummeting downhill. I started to tell him that the boots fell apart after just two wears, but before I could even finish my sentence, manager Michael Lynch, abruptly exclaimed "Absolutely NOT. We will not take these back. They've obviously been worn". I told him "yes, that's what I'm saying- I wore them just twice and they completely fell apart." He just said "No, absolutely not." He didn't even look at the receipt. Before we could say anything more, he started spouting one outlandish lie after another (peppered with stern "NO"s): "You didn't buy these at TJ Maxx" (I have the receipt. They're literally still in stock- I can go grab a pair and show you). "You didn't buy them at this location" (the receipt clearly states I did-- even the cashier pointed to the receipt and tried to tell him we obviously had, but she was too scared of him to interject loudly enough for him to hear). "You did not buy these a week ago" (again, just look at the date on the receipt, they're obviously defective) "There's no way we're taking them back. This is more than just defective, these are destroyed. (exactly- that's what I'm saying. That's why I'm here) "Absolutely not! We are not taking these back. This isn't even how we coat our shoes" (are you saying you failed to coat them properly?) etc. My fiancé told him he was going to write a review and he said "That's fine. Write all the reviews you want. I don't give a shit. There is no way I'm hell I'm taking these back. These are beyond damaged". (EXACTLY- I absolutely agree they are unacceptable and useless. I wouldn't be here if they weren't) He didn't once look at the receipt or treat either of us with an iota of humanity or respect. He had made up his mind that we were criminals and he was not going to accommodate us before he even walked up with all his go-to, accusatory, baseless lies ready to throw at us. From the very first moment, his M.O. was to gaslight me and pretend that I had bought the shoes from somewhere else and had worn them for years or thrown them in a blender. He refused to glance at the receipt because that would discredit his lies and wouldn't align with his strategy. It's one thing to say "I'm sorry, unfortunately we are unable to issue a return", but words can't describe how rude and callous he was and the dehumanizing way he spoke to me. I am embarrassed to admit I literally left in tears from the way I was treated. (I'm genuinely concerned he's going to read this and get off at the satisfaction of knowing he made a young lady cry). After reading other reviews, it seems many others have had terrible interactions with this boorish man forbidding anyone from making perfectly reasonable returns. He doesn't belong anywhere near customers and my heart cries for anyone he manages. I can not believe the owners have let his crude attitude toward customers go on for so long. I have always liked TJ Maxx, but I cannot in good conscience shop there knowing they sell defective products they won't back up and allow this man to treat customers like they're lying when trying to make perfectly justified returns. Michael Lynch, you made it very clear you don't give a shit, but I hope one day you realize the effect your behavior has on people and on the company that unwisely still employs you for some reason. read more

I just had to drop a quick review because this is the cleanest TJ Maxx I have ever been in! It is so clean I was constantly saying "Wow!" to my wife. A clean store made me have such an enjoyable shopping experience that I felt good as I walked through the store. The aisles are wide. Every section was well organized and the list goes on. They have several women employees here (Preeti to name one) and a lady with curly hair and glasses probably in her 50s who is the "manager" or a "supervisor" who are so unpleasant to check out with and return stuff with. Every time I come here and am standing at check out I pray to god I won't have to deal with either of them. They're so rude. Preeti a woman with longish black hair can be especially nasty if you need to return something -- last time she grabbed my receipts out of my hands and my phone, she's so hostile. She does lacks any customer service skills and is beyond horrible to customers. She and the other lady are very accusatory god forbid you have to return anything to this store they'll make you feel like a common criminal. I miss the managers Sue and I believe the manager Mike was his name were great and hired really great staff that are very few and far in between that are left from when they oversaw the store. The current manager Laurie I believe? Please hire more friendly and charismatic people not these rude and hostile ladies. Shout out to the young guy at the register don't know his name and two other employees Barbara (usually in jewelry) and Lily at the registers they are your best employees. There is one other lady she works in jewelry, (she reminds me of Salma Hayak very pretty) is so sweet!! Store is ok with selection in the evening but it's very depressing and disorganized. Been here a few times and actually like their selection of clothing for men. My wife loves their selection on items for the home. Parking is easier than the Escondido location and the store itself is larger, which means more space to get down the isles. The associates are super friendly and the place always appears to be organized. I'll be back for sure as my wife is on a rampage in updating the decor in our home... I can't be mad at her though as she isn't breaking the bank here at TJ Maxx. She has become a true Maxxinista. Thanks TJ Maxx for offering great clothes for me and value priced items for my home. I came here initially to just window shop but that never happens at any TJ Maxx I go to. As I entered, there were a lot of stuff on clearance. I managed to find a Stila cushioned eye liner, socks, my daughter found cheap bath bombs, strawberry macaroons, and last but not least a pair of $10.00 Guess tennis shoes. All these items were on clearance and costs me a total of $30 and some change. Not bad. A little damage but not too much. The aisles were organized and clean. I didn't find much high end makeup here but I still managed to find some good deals on stuff. Not too bad. TJ Maxx is one of my favorite stores as well as Marshall's which are sister stores. Plenty of parking up front. I would come back but early in the morning when they are open. read more

The lady at the register was ringing me up and I noticed she tried to sneak a second scan on one of my items. I asked her why she scanned the item twice and she told me that she didn't believe it was the price that was listed and tried to claim I had switched the tags on the item. I told her I found the item with that listed price in the clearance section and there were similar items listed at the same price. I even told her she can look through the cameras and check because it was insulting she would make those accusations. She proceeded to make an excuse that the barcodes didn't match when they both rang up as children's toy and when the manager came, the cashier denied her actions and the manager was no help as she also tried to claim that the tags were switched. No apologies were made. There's no issue paying for the price of the toy but it was the accusations that the tags were switched that was infuriating. read more

Like other reviewers pointed out, this is TJ Maxx is recently open and its extremely clean and organized. I preferred to go to TJ Maxx vs Ross or Marshalls. We have been coming to this store location now for over three years and have never had a problem until recently. My wife bought a pair of boots for $40 which is pretty expensive for an item at TJ Maxx. She wore them literally two evenings, maybe about three hours each night. By the end of the second night, both of the shoes had completely separated from the sole to the point where her toes were touching the ground. I of course returned to the store, expecting fully that these would be called a defective and that we would receive a refund or at the very least store credit. The lady who initially started to help us was shocked at how poor the condition was of a pair of shoes purchased just three days ago, and couldn't have a greed with us more that it was unacceptable. However to my absolute surprise Mike L, an incredibly rude manager with zero respect for myself or my wife, came over and told us that there is "no way in Hell I am taking these back". Just the inappropriate language was more than enough catch me off guard. He accused us of purchasing them somewhere else, and said this was way beyond defective (Ummm exactly- that's why we're trying to return them). He said it doesn't matter if we bought them from HIS store, that HE was not going to assist in a refund. It wasn't even so much what he said but just in the way he said it so aggressively with utter disrespect and zero empathy for the fact that we just purchased a $40 pair of boots from his store that are now absolutely useless to us after three days. I used to love shopping here since you can usually find some good products at a good price. Lately though, the store has been filled with broken products, messy and unsized clothing racks, and difficult employees. I just got home from shopping and realized the cashier Bozena never gave me my receipt. She had been distracted talking to her coworker (blonde weirdly aggressive woman) about some frame they had behind the counter. Like I get sometimes you need to ask each other work questions, but wait until you're done ringing up customers! As soon as she handed me my bag she immediately turned around and started talking to two of her coworkers about her frame. Clearly it was much more important than giving me my receipt. I called the store to try to get my receipt mailed to me and the lady who answered the phone refused. I had to ask several times to speak to a manger because she kept repeating that no, she couldn't mail the receipt. I finally got the manager Letitia who hardly said a sentence longer than five words and certainly never even apologized for her employee's mistake. She clearly did not want to be on the phone with me. When I was giving her my address she kept pausing and asking me to repeat. It turns out she was on headset and didn't have the common sense to step away from headset while on the phone. She was so difficult. This Store Manager has a total grip. This store is the most clean and organized discount store I have ever been to. It has been that way since it first opened. Having been a store manager, (and I still am) in retail for more than 40 years, I can appreciate the amount of hard work this person has done to make that store shine. It is so organized! Finally we got a fenonemal TJ Maxx in Carmel Mountain! Much more aseptic than the vital, jovial and always crowded branch in Escondido, I still like the way they organize the items, mainly those huge purses by colors (and sometimes even by brand). In purses section you can get great deals from Sac company and also some times I scored several Kiplings (that brand is very trendy and kind of pricey in Europe, it seems not so well known here). About shoes, what to say...I got sexy sandals from Michael Kors for less than $30. Huge collection of scarves in myriad of colors. Perfume side...you can't beat getting brand names for 3 time less than in the duty free of your favorite airport. Of course, the con is that you don't always get the fragrance you are looking for.
