TJ Maxx was one of my "go to" stores when I worked near Wisconsin Ave. It is located near Booeymongers & Michaels. The cross street is Jennifer Street. You can find metered parking & sometimes neighborhood parking. The store isn't the same. The inventory is smaller. If you take the time to look, you can find a discounted handbag or gift item. There is a security presence that keeps out any trouble. This is the "scene of the crime" where I once knocked over a giant rack of shoes & the employee was nice about it. That would not happen now. They barely have any shoes. The register line can get long downstairs. There is another register area upstairs. I'm rooting for the store and hoping that things continue to improve. At least there were several employees on the floor. I didn't feel like an inconvenience on this visit. read more

Quite a range of items and it certainly met expectations. It's crowded but you can almost always find something there. Great place to find bargains and gifts for folks. On a recent Saturday, my wife and I found plenty of stocking stuffers. I'm sure some folks complain about service but the model is not meant to be a high touch store.... Another two tier location. From the Security Guard, upper level Cashiers to the lower level floor salespersons & such, all offered great customer service throughout the store. This is one of the cleanliness & organized TJM I've been to. I got friendly service from Ms. JoAnn such a hoot. I appreciate the staging of the inventory at this location, with easy access & visibility. The discounted price tags for the high end merchandise is always a plus. Before today, this was my 1st time here & will be more than happy to make this location my Go-To when the HomeGood's chain is calling me. Conducive location across the street from the Jennifer Ave exit of Friendship Heights. & if you don't find what you are looking for here, cross the street to their sister store Marshall's....win win for everyone. read more

I'm not a purse fanatic like some women, and I don't own a real name brand purse, except for a Ralph Lauren and Guess purse that were both bought on sale at Macy's several years back. I didn't know I wanted a purse going in to this store this past weekend, but there they were, hundreds of them. On tables. On racks. On shelves. They sure are pretty! I had passingly thought about getting a purse that has a front zippered section because I am tired of digging around in my current purse with the black lining for my keys. I don't know how you men do it. I could also do with some more space, just like with my current living space, but that isn't going to change any time soon. buying a new purse is an easy fix. I found the perfect purse for me! It's taupe, or beige, or tannish, some color that I don't own already, so I am justified, right?! The best part is that it was ONLY (I say that in caps for all the men reading this because that is cheap) $29.99!! (Yes, two exclamation marks.) It's a Tommy Hilfiger, which is the Michael Kors of yesteryear. I can't comment on the clothing selection. Just looking at the rows and rows of tightly packed clothes on all those racks made me feel fatigued. I did peruse the cosmetic shelves and picked up a little pack of facial masks, which wasn't a financial splurge. It's easy and probably cheaper to take Metro rather than paying for parking if you are going to be in Friendship heights for more than three hours. There are plenty of other shops to explore nearby, and some good happy hours too. read more

I've spent the last 4 months of my life filling and decorating my new home and I don't know how I could have done it without the help of all of the TJ Maxx stores within a 25 mile radius. I blew through my budget with quality furniture so when it comes to the smaller accent pieces--candles, toss pillows, high-thread count sheets, kitchenware, baskets, etc, I scale back and supplement my Pottery Barn/Crate & Barrel binges with discounted items. This location is pretty prime because it's in fancy Friendship Heights so they usually have nicer home brands. To dispel a common myth: things aren't discounted because they're damaged, it's usually just department store leftovers and I could care less if my housewares are last season. And real talk you must have patience, you're not going to "clean up" every time you go but they get deliveries regularly so check back as often as you can. I work down the road so there have been times when I'm there 2 or 3x a week, ahh the thrill of a bargain chase :-) read more

Not my favorite location, but I can't resist going inside if I'm in the area. It's ALWAYS cluttered, no matter what time of day or day of the week I've been. However, because I'm such a TJ Maxx fiend, I always give it a 20th "second chance" to see what's up. The jewelry section is always watched like a damn hawk tho, so I assume that's where all of the effort is placed. If you're in the mood to plunder and search, then give this place a go. Great location in Friendship Heights is Metro friendly and close to other great shopping. However, TJ Maxx is often one-stop bargain shopping for more than what you hoped to find. Walk in looking for a gift, and wow, pick up some gift wrap and jam while you're there. Searching for some new weekend tote bag, and well, why not pick up some more athletic socks- at these prices, it's a great idea to go here whenever there are a few items on your shopping list. Otherwise, be focused like a laser to reduce the browse effect and end result of finding more great deals! The brands are pretty standard department store and some lower end names, but you can find some good items every now and again. Either way, there is still a unique selection and great pricing. Just don't get sucked into spending more than you had planned or spending more time than your schedule allows. Clean, organized store with plenty of staff to take care of the customers. read more

This place has not made me a maxxinista out of me. Sometimes after much ruffling, I can find one decent article of clothing. But then after seeing the long lines and 2 registers opened, I sometimes pass. I did find a nice dress here once and I love it. I also bought a straightening iron, sunglasses, and jellybeans. They have a sweet candy section (i.e. truffles, peppermints, cookie mixes) However, this place is quite messy (open products here and there) but it is a bargain. The assistant manager was sweet when I needed a price check and I generally like the employees here. I mean, retail is difficult, I know. I have to agree with the earlier posters, this TJ Maxx is smaller, but given that it is an urban setting, you're not going to find your typical suburban box-store size either. The selection of purses here and the beauty products really caught me off-guard, if you come here regularly, you'll find some really great and surprising pieces. read more

Only if I have to!! I love discount spots and get off on spending hours digging through racks and racks of damaged goods to find the gem. But, I refuse to go to this store unless I have to. The service is extremely slow, the store is disgusting, and no one who works there should be in the customer service industry. The staff here are nice, but not super outgoing. Sometimes I find stuff, sometimes I don't, but the bad part about these places is that you really have to search; awesome stuff isn't just going to pop out at you and clothes are not well-organized. I was psyched to find a TJ Maxx just one Metro stop away. I needed a baby gift, and I've had great luck in the past finding good quality baby clothes on the cheap. I was disappointed as soon as I walked in - this particular store is a cramped mess. It's like a TJ Maxx stuffed into someone's basement. I feel sorry for the staff because there is just no way to keep this place presentable. I was able to find a gift, but there wasn't much selection in the baby department. I fared better in clothes and shoes, but the experience was unpleasant, even for a hardcore rummager like myself. My husband was carrying the backpack I bring to work every day (city life=backpack life, am I right?). I'm not sure if it was backpack, or because my husband is brown, but I have never felt so unwelcome in my life. We were followed by two guards who would not stop staring while talking to each other. We went to other parts of the store--they were never more than a rack away, and they checked the racks that we left. When I wanted to try on clothes, the woman working at the fitting room counted my clothes herself (wouldn't allow me to), and then stopped me to count them again, and then AGAIN, while snidely telling me that she couldn't remember if she had counted 9 or 10 items (the limit is 10, so it doesn't matter--unless they physically count every customer's items three times?). I was pumped to find cool threads, but after being followed, confronted, and harassed, I left them behind. Just have a no backpack policy (or no non-white people with a backpack policy?). read more

This location has the best selection of any store I've been to in DMV. Their rent the runway and designer clothes, shoes and purses are amazing. Additionally, the customer service is good and the staff is helpful and patient. However, be aware, the store has very very long lines. It's not uncommon to be in line more than 10+ minutes. read more

First time shopping here since they moved across the street and all I can say is this space is huge! Even a little extra space between racks makes searching for the perfect day-to-night dress more pleasant. The handbag selection was massive. The store was a little disorganized (I was there on a Saturday afternoon) but that's what you get at a TJ Maxx. There were people straightening the scarf section and restocking racks of clothes. The shoe section was a little disappointing--not really anything my style. The store has a massive inventory and is worth a visit if you're in the area. It's a good tj maxx! There's garage parking that might be a bit expensive but easily accessible from Wisconsin ave. Amazing designer brand shoes, good fitness wear, affordable and good quality home stuff, luv luv luv the purses, and I can get some cute clothes there too! I actually prefer this tj maxx to the marshals across the street, I think it's bigger and has way more to offer. Apparently I'm the first to review... strange since there are lots of fans of the Loehmann's across the street. Well it's in a great location- right around the corner from the Friendship Heights Metro station. This is probably my favorite TJ Maxx location (on the East or West coast). OK, I am all about thrift shopping, discount shopping and all that. Not hoity by any stretch, don't mind fending off the occasional homeless man's advances while sifting through a ton of crap that smells like R. Kelly's sheets...but this is the worst TJ Maxx I've ever been to. The clothes were crappy, shoes were completely disorganized and out of place, and the dressing room lady...OMG. Granted she may have been mentally challenged (seriously), but she was downright rude. I don't know, this place just totally gives me the creeps. Skip it and go to Nordstrom Rack or Loehman's across the street. Better stuff and about 3564 times better customer service and vibe. I love discount shopping! But this place is super frustrating. 1) The layout is annoying, especially the women's clothing is organized in a very odd way. For example, there's two clearance sections rows apart from each other and I don't understand why. 2) This store is really messy. I understand that these stores are usually not a prime example of tidiness, but I shouldn't have to fight with the merchandise. 3) The men's section is a joke. Unless you're looking for a button-down-shirt-in-a-box, pajama pants, or a University of Maryland t-shirt, don't even bother. 4) The little maze section to the cash registers is super claustrophobic (on top of already feeling that way since the entire store is underground). There seems to be random trinkets practically falling off the shelves directing you towards the registers, which have clothes strewn all over them as it is. The slow staff working make this wait tremendously long, adding even more injury. The only reason this place manages to get two stars is because I swear by discount shopping. read more

Well theres a lot to see here. Lately I've been on a quest to find the perfect holiday party dress. So this was my last resort before giving in to paying full price. I am so dumb. Why I dont raid department stores at the end of seasons beats me. I've been the same size since I was 16. I could totally stock up on dresses. The staff here were really nice, and pointed me in the direction of... well... a huge mess. Maybe its not a mess, but you have to be in it to win it. Dig, and dig, and dig. I wonder how old some of these dresses are... do they still make designs like this? Also I agree with Jessica L, its hard to find the smaller sizes. For example there was a huge section on soaps and bath stuff--other locations don't have as wide a selection. I'm aware that these stores vary considerably in their inventory, but I enjoyed this one very much! They also have huge clearance tables with generous markdowns. read more

Giving this one star for customer service. Today was a slow day - I walked up to the counter and greeted the woman there, who did not respond to my greeting or even look at me. She took my things and rang then,? Then at me said "need a bag?" I politely said "no thank you." At that point a colleague of hers came over and they started talking--she didn't ever say another word to me or look at me. When the receipt printed, she was so engrossed in her other conversation, she held it out blindly, still with her attention the other way, not even in my general direction. I reached for out and took two passes to get out of her hand (since she was holding it tightly and not paying attention), and I left. I'm always courteous, but I expect a little courtesy and acknowledgement in return. A machine would've been friendlier and more helpful. What's the world coming to? read more

Probably my first and last trip to this TJ Maxx. I suppose it's my fault for not being familiar with the stores rules, but it's incredibly out of line for an employee to yell at a customer because I walked towards a changing room when she hadn't acknowledged me having waiting around for a minute. Being treated like a criminal or a trouble maker for such a minor infraction is outrageous. The store did have some cute items, but I've never been yelled at by a clerk once in my 29 years. read more

Each time I have shopped here I have not been disappointed. Well, I have been disappointed with the selection of women's clothes and shoes but the housewares, accessories, and cosmetics are on point. The first time I went I parked in the garage thinking they would validate. HUGE mistake. I paid $9 for 2 hours of parking! The next time I parked on the street! Plan to make regular trips to scour for deals! Store is clean and for the most part organized. I am kind of snob about stores that have stuff thrown all over the place so it is manageable enough to keep me from walking out in frustration. Awesome TJ Maxx. A little dumpy (it is in a basement...), but selection is quality (especially the handbags!), the lines aren't too bad, and the staff is helpful (kind of...it still is a TJ Maxx). Word of warning, the fitting room can get pretty crowded--I've been in here on more than one occasion where the men's fitting room has to be temporarily converted in a women's fitting room. read more

This place seriously freaking sucks. Every time I go here...which has only been about three times, the lines are overcrowded, w/ only two cashiers working their asses off to get to everyone quickly. The store always smells really weird, is a mess, and a lot of their stuff is damaged/stained...ummmmm whyyy? The selection is pretty much crap and some of their crappy sh*t has the audacity to be overpriced. Staff need to be careful not to pressure or give a customer a hard when they clearly say multiple times they are NOT interested in opening the store credit card. That shouldn't be taken against a customer because the customer did not ask for it, including being rude and not helpful. These type of interactions should not be allowed, as they impact the customer experience. read more

I've always loved coming to this TJ Maxx ... I come here pretty regularly and found a pretty good selection and bargains. The shoe section is pretty good, although they don't have have as large a selection of clothing in XS. read more

More organized than other TJ's and has a pretty big housing section. The shoe section always seems to be lacking in size 10s so just keep that in mind if you have huge feet like me. Also the people who work there are super helpful! If you need anything there is usually someone walking around. Only issue is, be prepared to carry your stuff to your car because you can't bring carts. read more
