I was looking to buy cloths for summer vacation . Went to the Wisconsin Ave Banana Republic. The few sales people were busy talking to each other . I finally flagged down a young salesman asking how the sales work . His answered with hesitation " some items are on sale - others not " and walked off to chat with his colleagues. To confirm the store was almost empty . I finally found a shirt I liked . As it was impossible to get help, I went on the BR website . Great on sale it seemed. Took it to the counter : " sorry others motifs are on sale but this one is not ". This person was actually pleasant. I actually didn't really care about a sale price or not but I was not OK with the overall service. I left and end ended up spending $370 next door at the Gap. BR Wisconsin -never again. read more

Overall, I had a decent shopping experinece at this Banana Republic. I stopped by primarily to purchase a couple pairs of pants. For what I wanted the store had a nice selection. I was quite impressed by the friendlness of the sales associates. *I've forgotten his name, but he was thin Black man with a neck tattoo.* He was really helpful in finding the correct size for my pants. While I found what I was looking for, I did not think this location had too much variety for men's clothing. While I did not personally experience this, I thought one of the sales associates was a bit aggressive with a customer in regards to applying for a store credit card. I get that sales associates will receive bonuses based on the number of customers that sign up for a card. After a customer says no for the second time, then the sale associate should stop. For instance, my sales associate asked if I wanted to sign up for a card, and I said no. He followed up with the typical "if you sign up for a CC, you'll save X% on today's purchase" statement. After I said no for the second, he let it go. In my opinion, that's what the other sales associate should have done. In general, I love BR. I love the cuts. I think they were designed to make the average Joe (read: me) look like he knows how to dress himself. I can almost always grab any shirt or sweater off the shelf and throw it on and go "that'll work." On to this location, though. My initial impression of this shop was not that it was classy or that it was buzzing. I felt like I'd walked into a used bookstore. One where the staff had tried to organize the books in some semblance of order, but had maybe gotten them stacked into piles on tables, but not shelved neatly by author's last name. The selection was also somewhat bizarre. Maybe it's because I don't -get- fashion, but is there a reason to have out trench coats in the middle of August? There seemed to be quite an assortment of sweaters that I couldn't see putting on until well into late fall, as well. Maybe they're getting a jump start on the upcoming season... although it seems either excessively preemptive to me, or ridiculously 2007. Next time I'm in Fashion Heights, I'll skip this stop. read more

This Banana Republic is tucked away next to a Gap that's much more visible from the street. It's organized like most any BR, but guys, it is SMALL. In fact, I'm quite certain this is the smallest Banana Republic I've ever been in, and I've been around the Banana block. The men's section is the upper right quadrant of the store, by the entrance...and that's it. All that said, I was able to get in and out quickly with a great sweater and pair of gloves. Fitting rooms had no line, which was nice (also expected on a Sunday in Friendship Heights), and the cashier was friendly. Not a bad little spot, but don't expect the larger selections that you'll find at other locations. read more

I love Banana Republic. And I LOVE Friendship Heights/Chevy Chase... But I do not love the Banana Republic in Chevy Chase. I find the sales associates at this location to be pretty unhelpful and not very friendly. I prefer the BR in Georgetown. It seems more organized and like there's much more of a selection. And despite it being Georgetown, I find their employees to be more personable and friendly than those in FHeights. The only purchase I've EVER made in this store was a plum purple satin clutch (that I love) but even so... the snobbery of the sales people made me go .. ehhhh. Go to Georgetown instead. read more

A clean store, though not the friendliest of workers. I am a super friendly person, and after spending almost $200 at Banana Republic within the last 14 days alone, I do not expect to have some unpleasant cashier. There was ONE employee the entire time that was sweet who asked if I needed any help and to let me know about the sale. (young, good-looking black man...you are awesome), but everyone else is kind of meh. I do have to admit that I was in the store when there was a very, very, very unfriendly customer making a huge deal about something, and demanded to speak to managers about who knows what...but I was friendly, so I felt as though I should have had a warmer greeting. Oh and did you know that they charge you a bag fee? WHAT?!!! Umm. No. I understand grocery stores charging fees, and we always carry our own bags to the grocery store, but spending a ridiculous amount of money on clothes, and you charge me a fee? What? She sharply asked if I needed a bag, and I of course said yes because I bought more than one thing, and my anthropologie bag was full. She could have said, oh, I will add an extra .5 cents to your total...yes I know that sounds petty, 5 cents after spending $100, but still, that is messed up. Any who, if you really need to go to a Banana Republic, find a different one. I used to love going to this store, but after my recent experience with their customer service and their incompetence in solving a simple problem, I will never be returning. My mother-in-law purchased gift cards for myself, my husband, my sister, and my brother, adding up to the total amount of about $350. When we tried to use these gift cards, we were told that there was no money on them, even though they could verify that the cards had never been used both by looking at the cards (pin numbers still intact) and by calling the central office to determine if the card numbers had ever been swiped. When calling the customer service department to sort this out, we were told that the gift cards had been devalued upon purchase, basically meaning that the clerk who had rung them up had never added the dollar amounts to the card, and instead had given my mother-in-law blank cards. The person on the phone said that there was nothing he could do, and we would have to visit the store where the cards were purchased. After making an extra trip to the store where they were purchased, the staff at the store again called customer service, and transferred us around on the phone for about 2 hours. After this, they told us there was still nothing they could do, and that we would have to open a "dispute." Basically, my mother-in-law is now out $350 and they will do nothing to fix the issue, when their staff were the ones who caused the issue in the first place. This was once my favorite shop along with the Gap in that complex, but no longer. In the past few years, the shop staff and shoppers have become more snobby, the shop selection is limited (they got rid of the back beltloops from their ladies chinos), and the shop won't validate for parking unless you buy something. As if anyone needs to pay for the privilege of shopping there! Perhaps Gap Inc.'s financial woes influenced this change in parking policy and belt loop usage. The draw of that complex was that it was so conveniently located that I could stop by in the hopes of finding what I needed. Go to Filene's Basement or Lord & Taylor instead if you're in Friendship Heights or, if you adore BR, go to Montgomery Mall where parking is free and plentiful (even if the BR sales people are just as snobby and the beltloops just as absent). read more

The store manager's definition of "clothing that has been worn" would basically apply to any items in store that have been tried on by multiple customers. Here's what happened. I tried to exchange a pair of pants I'd put on at home. I had them on long enough to realize they were going to be too tight to wear for the day out. So took them off and put them back in the shopping bag intending to exchange for next size up. They said "no". Furthermore, the store manager lied and told customer service that I'd "worn the pants for a day". I never said that. The manager made that up. I've never had a problem with Banana Republic and have been a regular customer for nearly ten years. First time I've ever had an unpleasant experience at the store. read more

I'm a sucker for sale signage-pulls me in every time. Anything over 40% off is like a magnet to me, I gotta go check it out. I used to do most of my BR shopping online but now that they've gotten rid of "women's tall" I have to come into the store to try things on to make sure they're long enough. I've been to this particular location multiple times and the staff isn't friendly, you could be in there either 5 minutes or an hour and never have an associate even greet you, let alone assist you with your shopping. Everything is pretty organized until you get to the markdown section which is usually a hot, picked over mess. I keep coming back because it's near my work and they usually have a decent amount of size 14/16 items, I guess a lot of thick girls don't get out to Friendship Heights much? "Where everybody knows your name..." I am often in need of retail therapy after work and unfortunately this BR is right next to my office. I have def developed a BR problem in my three years working in ChCh. No one even asks me where my cute outfits are from anymore because the answer is inevitably, "Banana!" I completely disagree that the sales associates are snobby and I have always found them very helpful (and on one occasion annoyingly and overly helpful). And I really am in there so much that they all know me. I have hesitated to review this BR because I was scared that more people would decide to pay it a visit. I think because there are so many other far superior places to shop here, the sale selection is always so much better at this location than others. I have found so many great deals here! I'll admit it: I actually enjoy shopping here. At a chain store. Me. In fact, yesterday I tried on 11 skirts and pants (with no success), and I still went home in a good mood. I'm guessing it's for the following 2 reasons: Salespeople here have been exactly as I like them: A hello if we cross paths, courteous and helpful when approached, and prompt in taking merchandise off my hands. In addition, this location somehow manages to have real & varied clearance (as opposed to long stretches of one type of item with an inflated original price), so I've bought several gems here, like a black silk crepe dress ($160 reduced to $40), a plum/wine rayon & wool cocktail-ish dress (~$120 reduced to $45), a red wool cardigan ($70? reduced to $15), and dachsund boxer shorts ($20 reduced to $5). I always make this store my last stop -- things always go so smoothly. read more

Okay..Where do we start? I am a Banana Republic card holder and I frequently shop at Banana Republic in Chevy Chase. I recently decided to close my account and not patronize this business. The managers have been very fake here.. They come across as problem solvers but actually they are policy pushers. If I buy something and the merchandise tears or sheds "Why" as a customer should I suffer the lost. Typically, people assume they are getting the best bang for their buck and would like to purchase items which are going to last. So we forfeit and pay a higher price tag. Well, BR sees things differently, atleast the managers. I would think twice before buying merchandise from here. The clothes are just purely cheap!!! They don't last and if you don't believe check out the HIGH sales section. The have so many sale items and this is a result of their merchandise not selling or customers are returning the items back to the store. If you don't believe..answer this....have you noticed that most people only use the Chevy Chase store to return merchandise and not shop. That's because they prefer to shop elsewhere and use this location as a RETURN CHAIN. If you haven't noticed this you should start paying close attention when you go in there. I will say I did have the pleasure of meeting some really nice staff members (Chevy Chase) who were actually nice and helpful. But for some reason, when I went back the associates were GONE. The turnover rate at this store is AMAZING! I have often wondered why they have such a high turnover and decided to camp out in the dressing room only to overhear a conversation that the employees here were treated badly and management only cares about numbers and those dsng Banana Cards. That's a shame.....you recruit people who love what they do but you turn them into monsters who seem to HATE working here. I think this was the icing on the cake for me. The suspicion was there however, it wasn't confirmed until I heard this conversation. One day when you are in there take notice of the morale of the sale associates as they are the true front and image of the store and the brand. They really don't look happy.......They look tired, exhausted, frustrated and express that "don't ask me a question because I am trying to recover the store before we close" attitude. Chevy Chase has alot of work to do including treating their employees a little better as they convey the brand image to the customers.
