When I first walked in, they showed me into the waiting room which is equipped with snacks and drinks galore. The woman who washed my hair nearly put me to sleep with her relaxing head massage (in a positive way!!), and was so kind. Then I had the pleasure of chatting with Tina while she did my hair. She listened to what I need, and helped me make decisions on what to do with my hair. I really appreciate the low-pressure environment, and they really did a great job all around. I've seen Carolyn, Julia, and Kay and each has brought their true A game. Carolyn is the business owner and you can tell she creates an environment where her stylists are respected and respectful of each other! I mean how many salon chairs have you sat in and observed petty fighting? I've always been so relaxed and honestly enjoyed my time there chatting in the intimate and beautifully designed space. Its aesthetic is truly precious and perfect for downtown Frankfort. Carolyn was so excited to have me see Julia, a newer stylist and holy cow she did not lead me wrong! I have hand tied extensions installed by Julia and honestly I feel like a goddess. The waves and styling after the installation were perfection. Kay has also done an installation for me and I never felt more confident as when I walked out of the salon. I asked for kacey musgraves and while they couldn't replace my vocal cords, they could give me her hair so I could pretend As a city expat, I was worried when I moved to the burbs that I'd miss out on the "latest and greatest" in hairstyle fashion, but Carolyn and her team could be easily transplanted to a high end salon in the most cosmopolitan of cities. If you want Kate gosselin, I mean I'm sure they'd do it for you if you asked lol but trust you will not unintentionally walk out renamed Karen. Lastly I've been going pre and post covid, I've felt that the precautions they've been taking to make me feel safe are more than adequate and I am very conservative in terms of the places I'm willing to go. I moved to Houston and couldn't get the same service or the same hair color anymore, always missing her. Now that I've moved back to Chicago, I didn't hesitate to reach out to her at her new salon. However, this time the work wasn't as good as I expected, and the charges weren't proportional to what was actually done. The primary reason I'm loyal to Brooke is because she is a fantastic and well-educated stylist. I have particularly long, thick, and coarse hair, and Brooke knows exactly what to do with it to avoid a head full of frizzy, out-of-control hair. I'm literally afraid to let anyone else cut it. Secondly, Brooke (and other stylists) reserve time at the outset of your appointment to consult with you in regards to your current likes, dislikes, and changes you'd like see made. This is important because it shows me Brooke is listening carefully and will address my concerns. I never walk out unhappy with my cut, likely for this reason. Finally, everyone I've ever encountered at the front desk is helpful and courteous. Most of the receptionists even remember my name, and always ensure my appointment is booked with enough time (especially because I come in from the city). It's also worth noting that the salon itself is clean, bright and well-decorated. I appreciate that they sell some of the best haircare products on the market, including Aveda, Redkin, and Pureology. Amato is an upscale salon that rivals any in the city of Chicago, and the prices are more than fair considering the quality of service. All of us are pretty low maintenance girls so we all had some curled style. The ladies were so friendly talking about their families and such! I have never really been in this sort of environment but it was fun! The girl that did my hair made it look exactly like the book, and even took pictured of it (for her portfolio)! She did not offer to hold the door, because the salon doors are narrow. I really wanted to turn around and go to great clips across the street, but I just suck it up. I did not feel welcomed here, maybe she didn't like black people. Her demanor, her attitude was horrible. She was not really nice to my resident who was in the wheelchair. She kept saying, "she can't hold her head up" I informed her that I can assist with any movement, but she never ask. We will not return to this business.
