I used to go to the original TJ's. The small place in the corner across from pizza place. However the new one is nice. There is a lot of room to sit and enjoy the food. My favorite thing to order is s bacon,egg and cheese. The service is great. In all the years I've gone they have never messed up my order. That's hard to find. Great food and even better service. We were at the end of our beach stay and wanted a good meal drive our drive home. We were leaving Fire Island and wanted a place nearby. We didn't have huge expectations, but were happily surprised by the great food. The best was the wings my sister and mom ordered. Crispy and perfectly cooked, they were quickly devoured. My SIL ordered the NY pastrami, my wife the bacon chicken wrap and my brother and I got the hot pork hero. All the food very good. We tried the house made Arnold and the was delicious. What made TJ extra special was their service. My mom has gotten stung by an insect on her foot. It was swollen and causing her pain. We asked for some ice and the gentleman took extra time to put ice into a plastic bag wrapped in paper towels for my mom. All done with smile. Lastly, the bathrooms were spotless. We had Italian hero and cheesesteak heros. Both tasted very fresh and delicious. Both big sandwiches and enough for two meals for two people. I think it was around 20.00 bucks for both. The bread had sesame seeds which we love and it was fresh and soft. Great place to visit when you can't think of another thing to make or don't feel like cooking. First time here. I never have any complaints about the food from here. Every hero is jam-packed with delicious flavorful fillings. The bread is soft. There are no wrong selections on their menu! The Patchogue location is pathetic in comparison, but I have not tried them since they moved to their new location. My favorites are the hungryman for breakfast, but I usually have to share it with someone else! The Cuban is also a great hero. They use a honey mustard instead of yellow mustard, and it is a great touch! Even their cold Italian sub is worth the trip. As I said, no wrong selections on their menu! I'll travel 20 minutes to go here when I'm craving a hero because it is ALWAYS great. The sandwich itself is always a perfect bread-to-filling ratio. The bread is super soft, fresh, and warm (if that's what your order called for). I always order a whole hero with the intention of saving half, but I usually eat the whole thing. Hero was pretty gas actually. Have no complaints what so ever about the place. The hero bread itself was really soft and the chicken cutlet was quite delicious. As so many Floyd students before and after me, I paid TJ's numerous visits during my high school years. Far too many to count. I left NY 10 years ago, and after all this time, it's always the first place I go for lunch when I go home for a visit. Do NOT miss the Manhattan - roast beef, gravy and melted mozzarella cheese on a garlic toasted hero roll. To.Die.For. It's so good that the last time I visited without my husband, he requested I bring one back for him. Yes, on the airplane. We're talking "slap yo momma" good. The staff thought it was interesting when I asked them to wrap it extra well, but when I told them what was up, they thought it was wicked cool, and the better half and I dined that night on none-the-worse-for-wear Manhattans in Wisconsin. If it's the right time of year for soup, the clam chowder is incredible as well. As a matter of fact, I've never had anything less than excellent from TJ's. I moved to Shirley 3 years ago and this June was my first time in TJ's. What on earth was I thinking!!! The staff was great and the sandwiches are to die for. They also offer a buy one get one half price! That's great if your low on cash and with a friend like I was. You know, I always liked my patchogue location a little better, probably because this is mastic and well, I'm a judgmental prick sometimes. But the convenience here when on the way to the beach is great, I just find them to be a bit slower... What I will say, is this spot gets your order right and doesn't mess up nearly as much as patchogue. Patchogue has been raising the price every year while somehow making me still feel hungry after I eat the hero. Mastic... I've never actually felt that way.
