Tony and Kelsey run a full service hair salon in Lyons. Their services cover a wide range and the quality of their work is consistently excellent. My wife, always watchful of my haircuts, has never had anything but good things to say about them. The vibe is casual, unpretentious and comfortable. The shop is cozy and wonderfully bright on sunny days. If you like to chat, both are good conversationalists. The pricing is extremely reasonable. Parking is always available in front of the shop. So I show up with PHOTOS of what I want my hair to look like (in addition to my hair nearly looking that way). The guy is like yeah, Il I'll do it just like that!! As the haircut progresses, I keep reminding him of what I wanted and in broken English he's like "yeah, yeah, I do just like that!" well... he didn't "do anything like that" (the photo's, the explanation, None of it!) Then I get ready to leave and hand him a Visa card and he says cash only (printed on a 3 x 5 card hidden on a covered up section toward the bottom side of the cash register). I was there in the afternoon on a week day and there was no wait. Bring a picture from your last haircut if you do not want any misunderstanding The pictures posted above the mirror might not be exact so it is better to bring your own. Make sure you err on less hair removal and you can always make it as close step by step. If more customers come in after you the finishing touches suffers from the pressure of time. So it is important to be there in the least busy time. I have not yet figures that time myself. read more

A great little barber shop located on Park St. I walked right in on Saturday expecting a long line but was greeted quickly and offered a seat. As many barber shops take cash only I made sure to ask prior to my cut. As expected cash was required but luckily there was an ATM down the street. I requested a 1-2 fade on the side, half an inch off the top, and tapered in the rear. I am typically very selective with how my hair is cut but TK Barber Shop did an awesome job at a price that didn't break the bank. I ended up paying 21$+4$ tip for the cut and definitely will be returning for future cuts due to the ease of walking in and price point. read more

Had a haircut and what was supposed to be a straight razor shave, on Tues. the 11th of June at this shop. Jolyn , had excellent ratings and had cut my hair many time at Al's on Webster St. I called on Tues. morning and spoke with Jolyn, told her exactly I what I wanted. Jolyn said "Oh, no problem, I take good care of you". July 11th. The haircut came out great. Now, the SUPPOSED straight razor shave. I had a very heavy beard which needed to be cut off prior to the razor shave. So Jolyn takes care of that "no problem". Then she gets out the electric hair clippers and runs that all over my face. Next she cleans all the hair off me and rubbed in some kind of snake oil. She then said that she was finished. I got up and said "what about the "straight razor shave" Jolyn say's oh, we don't do that here. I started to argue with her and then her English is poor, however not that poor. Now all of a sudden her English becomes indecipherable. Look at her ratings write up's etc. And note that she is the best razor barber in the bay area. She even has the prices up in the shop, and lo and behold "HAIRCUT & STRAIGHT RAZOR CUT" $30.00. Don't know why I was treated this way? But I do know that I will not darken the doorway of this shop nor any other barbershop in Alameda where she is liable to appear. BEWARE don't be stupid like me. Yelp has a "reported this business has closed" banner on its page. It is definitely *not* closed - I got a haircut less than an hour ago. I do prefer the owner's haircuts over the men who work there, but it's all good, cheap, and fast. Only thing I'd comment on is that the male barbers all want to know a haircut number to begin with, and while I've seen those charts on barbershop walls throughout my life, I was never asked for one previously, I'd just explain what I wanted. read more

I have gotten haircuts in many places before. from $14 cuts up to $50 cuts. But when it came to quality and results, Joleyn is definitely one of the best out there. Don't be put off by the $16 price tag, thinking that its cheap and not good. Joleyn haircuts are very meticulous and she pays attention to the details (the tiny little difference in all our heads). She may not have the best command of English but she is still able to understand exactly what i told her I wanted and even asked me additional questions to make sure she is giving a haircut that matches EXACTLY what i want. Highly recommended! Oh bonus is that I don't have to book an appointment in advance which is something that I don't prefer. I live in Alameda and have passed this shop many times without noticing, but a sign caught my eye that said they do straight razor shaves. Ok first, I am a shaving enthusiast. I have straight razors at home and a vintage collection of safeties. Truefitt & Hill, Penhaligon, Trumpers...I know the whole bit. I just received a solid shave at literally a third of the price I'd be willing to pay for an expert to work their craft on my face. Jolyn is very experienced and you won't be disappointed. the chairs are vintage, sort of uncomfortable and the towel service is very basic. Product are old school Pinaud. But I'm telling you, Jolyn has real skills and if you want to know what a real shave feels like or if you want to take care of yourself like a real gent and less than half the cost of what you'd pay at some hipster joint then go to TK now! While I didn't get a haircut here, I tried to come in at 4:39 PM today when they were listed as open. I come in and two people are getting hair cuts/styles. A young guy tells me they are closed the moment I walk in. While I understand that it is near the 5 pm closing time, I can tell that the guy didn't think twice about giving me a cut. Maybe they should just close at 4:30. Hmmph. Clearly they weren't closed because it was before closing time and they were both cutting hair. read more

Maybe I was cut by the younger brother. I asked for it 3/4" on the top, tapered down to the ears, while pointing to the positions on my head. At first, he was only going to cut around the ears, so I pulled out 3/4" to show him what I wanted, and also showed him a 3/4" gap between my fingers. Then he took up the electric clippers; I thought he was going to cut the bottom first, but he swooped all the way to the top of my head with a half inch guard. At that point I let him have his way and just hoped that whatever length it would be even, which it is not. Stay away unless you already have a specific barber working in that shop that you know knows how to cut your hair. read more
