As we all know there is a plethora of Mexican Restaurants to chose from, the new comer Guac Taco and Taquilla opened recently in Hopewell Junction. A small pretty and pleasant restaurant, decorated with Mexican carved chairs and beautiful paintings on the wall. The two waitresses working that night were super attentive and profesional, as was the bartender. Chip and " dip" no salsa , were immediately brought to the table, I have had better chips, I ordered a Michelada, huge, cold and delicious. Tacos ( 3) de Berria, served pipping hot , one of the best. My husband ordered the Surf and Turf tacos (3) the steak was rare as ordered, he said there were good. Both dishes were served with a small amount of delicious yellow rice, more rice would have been my fifth star. All in all a good newcomer, prices are good. Try them, worth the trip. read more

We can around lunch time on the weekend and were really surprised when the restaurant was mostly empty. Don't let the fact that this restaurant is behind a gas station scare you off though! They seated our very large party quickly, and brought out waters and hot chips / salsa for the table almost immediately. The menus are expansive, well labeled for dietary restrictions, and everything was super reasonably priced. The drinks were huge too and easily shareable. Wait staff was very kind. Food was good enough. Environment was poor. Right when we walked in there was an overwhelming humidity and odor that party members thought was mold but smelled a bit astringent to me. One party member had to leave immediately because of the smell, about 10 minutes into the visit my eyes were burning, and another member of the party complained of feeling "it" in their lungs. The floors also were sticky in places and the general feel of the place was dingy. The low lighting didn't help. The humidity tells me they might not be running the over-the-grill ventilation fans, and if they were to run a dehumidifier and make sure they really clean down floors and tables, it would be a good place to eat. I judge a restaurant by the floors. If the floors are dirty the kitchen is probably worse. If you eat here, do take-out. read more

We have been here 3 times. Each time the service has increasingly been slower. Our most recent trip we were one of only 3 parties in the restaurant. We waited 45 minutes after ordering to get our drinks, and when they were delivered, they only brought 2 of the 3 drinks. When the food was delivered, the order of fajitas didn't come with any of the usual sides (that were listed in the menu). When we asked the waitress for the sides, she stated, "what sides?" Katherinne treated us with great care, checked on our satisfaction, frequently, and gave us good recommendations. The food was prepared in acceptable time intervals, perfect temperatures, and portions. The drinks were large, nicely presented, and tasted very good. The entire staff worked well together, in order for us to enjoy a memorable meal, enjoy the atmosphere of the restaurant, and we would definitely return. This place opened a couple of weeks ago, and they were really hopping on Saturday early evening. Lots of takeout orders were being prepped, and it also started getting busy for dinner. I do have to say that service was excellent! From the moment we walked in, and were greeted immediately, to drink/dinner ordering, to checking on us a few times and getting us whatever we needed - service was impeccable! Please keep up the great work! My traditional margarita was perfect. It was the perfect drink on a summer evening. Now about the fancy, square, really heavy glass in which it was served - it's awkward. Drinking out of a square glass means you need to drink out of the corners. It is so heavy that you really need two hands to pick it up. Whoever selected these glasses for the restaurant was only looking for aesthetics. They really needed to try them out first. Five stars for the delicious margarita, but three stars for the awkward glass. Salsa and chips came out next. What a nice surprise to have two different types of salsa - green and red. The green salsa was amazing. It tasted like tomatillos, avocado, lime, and lots of other good things. They should bottle and sell it! The red salsa was more typical, but an excellent version. Both were flavorful with a bit of zip, but not spicy. Salsa and chips get five stars. (Seriously - I'd buy a jar of the green salsa to take home!) Whenever I try a new Mexican restaurant, I generally get Chicken Fajitas as a way to compare. I did exactly that yesterday. Normally, fajitas come out sizzling, but these did not. You really need to get the cast iron fajita plate really hot, so that the onions, peppers and everything else on the bottom caramelizes a bit. My fajitas were good, but without the sizzle and char, it just missed the mark. The chicken was really flavorful, but the broccoli seemed to have missed getting seasoned at all. The fajitas get three stars for the flavorful chicken. The execution was really lacking. (As a side note - someone at the next table ordered veggie fajitas, and the plate came out sizzling.) My partner ordered the enchiladas in red sauce. I tasted them, and they were really good! He said he would definitely get them again, so I'm giving them five stars. All in all, it's a really good start for this place, and we'll be back to try other things. We did notice lots of Pina Coladas in whole pineapples coming out, so that may be the next drink to try. The drink menu has a really nice selections, but there really should be prices on the menu. I'm averaging my rating to four stars. In my opinion, that means it's generally good, but with room for improvement :) read more

Really great food for both meat and veggie eaters! The Birria taco and the beef nachos are out of the ordinary; terrific. The veggie entrees like the enchilada are not just "ho hum, a bunch of vegetables together" but truly tasting like authentic Mexican food. And as one reviewer said, people should be lining up for the tres leches cake (and the fudge cake). New Paltz has some fantastic Mexican restaurants, from the "you feel you are in Mexico" La Charla to "you can count on getting good quality basic staples and easy to order/pay combinaciones" Orale, but this may be our new favorite. The waitress was very friendly and explained the menu when I had questions, so first I got chips abs salsa, chips were good, salsa and the green salsa were very fresh and tasty, now the rice was well seasoned and tender, beans were soft and I enjoyed the sauce they made in. Now for my main course the Volcano Molcajete, that was a feast for the eyes, all these slabs of meat cooked in a stone bowl/cup things. All the meats were very tender, thinly sliced and well seasoned. I love how the bowl thing was sizzling hot and it did really remind me of volcano. Oh my goodness. Yummmmm! This place was fabulous. Everything was a 5... From the tastiness of the food, the ambience, and service. The shrimp tacos were so tasty and the shrimp was marinated n fiesta spices. My daughter loved the Birria tacos and especially loved the classic dipping sauce. My other daughter had a Birilla Ramen bowl and it was so unique and tasty... Never even thought of having Birria as a Ramen... Slay!!!!. The guacamole was amazing and the salt and lime juice were well balanced. My only recommendation is to have the house salsa in a bigger bowl for dipping... What a disappointment. Ordered the Sooa de Mariscos. It was $27. I was hoping it was like Cilantro in Fishkill with huge shrimp, seafood in the shell and super fresh and a huge portion that automatically come with chips and salsa all for only about $25. NOPE! mostly broth, smallest shrimp ever, menu said lobster but they didn't have it, no mussels or clams like it said and some fish that was who knows what. I ordered guacamole and chips bc I don't think it came with chips and salad and I was right and that was overpriced as well for what you get. SO SMALL!!! Waste of money. The chicken and lime soup with rice was a nice start - and although the menu says it has hot sauce it does not, as the waitress prepared us. The soup has shredded chicken and lots of rice, very comforting. We got the birria tacos and a beef burrito and found them both pretty bland even when we tried adding salsa. Is the food in your area so mediocre that anything different than McDonald's is 5 stars?? That being said this place is no 4 or 5 star Mexican food. It's a legit 1 at best. The food is greasy, flavorless, overpriced slop. Why is it so hard for restaurants to serve quality flavorful food? I guess it's because the average eater is satisfied by mediocrity. This is a generous 2 star review. I would never go back. We stopped in for dessert and tacos and took them to go. While waiting inside for our food we noticed there was many knats flying around the bar area. We should have left then and saved ourselves a stomach ache and 40 dollars. This was the worst fried ice cream I've ever had. Almost inedible... the coating was greasy, thick and soggy. Warm, friendly attentive service. Bartender has great margarita skills. Music on their playlist not to my taste (and a bit loud) but that may say more about my age then anything else. My husband and I ate at this restaurant for the first time last night. There was the strangest, most unpleasant smell that permeated the space when we entered. It was raining so hard that we decided to stay, which in retrospect, was a mistake. With very few people in the restaurant, we had to make great efforts to get noticed by the 3 servers who were hanging out by the register. The $11 veggie burrito was overpriced - mostly filled with rice and very small amounts of green pepper, onions, spinach and beans.
