I needed some framing done in a commercial space, as well as some doors and a window hung. I called a few other places for some estimates and they were either very high or wanted to charge for their estimate. Several weeks ago I contacted TME for an estimate on installing a walk-in tub and tile work. The gentleman who arrived (and I hope he was not the owner) appeared "put out" at being here and complained bitterly about the numerous estimates he had to do the following day. I found Tony and his company TME Construction doing a home remodel on my block early this year six houses down. After noticing their daily commitment to complete their job. I decided to give them a call for a quote on this installation of a new vanity with matching medicine cabinet and installing two overhead LED lights along with six new LED ceiling lights in our living room with dimmer switches. In addition I wanted to extend the laminate vinyl flooring into the vanity area from the master bedroom and into the bath room. During the intervening time of me searching for a new vanity and acquiring new laminate flooring. I noticed that TME also did another kitchen remodel down the street as well. This is a lot of references rolled into one. Mitch from The Carpet Store in Sylmar certainly doesn't have a glossy showroom, but has everything, is a good person and works with a lot of contractors. When I asked for a reference, Mitch said that flooring is the last step on a lot of renovation jobs. The contractor he doesn't hear complaints about is Tony of TME. I also checked Houzz and the other websites and they say the same thing that I'm saying here. If you can, work with TME. Tony is a human buzz saw. He is always there, works hard, fast, meticulously and at a reasonable cost. That is just great but there is more. It was fun to work with Tony. (His sense of humor can be a real groaner, but, much as I hate to admit it, I'm still smiling.) He is honest, genuinely cares about what you want, the quality of the work and the schedule. He brought in a group of workers who were a pleasure to have in the house and who had been with him for years. I also recommend using his advice. I had a great experience with Tony and TME Construction. After realizing that the seals on our roof were cracked (causing there to be a leak in one of our bedrooms), I called TME to see if this was something they could help us with. I spoke with Tony and he agreed to come out for a free estimate. He arrived as planned and summed up the work that needed to be done. He then followed up via e-mail with a written estimate and we scheduled the job a week and a half later. On the job day, I received a text from Tony letting me know they would be a little late. I was pleased with the communication so I could prepare accordingly. When they arrived, they got straight to work, resealing everything on the roof and cleaning out the gutters. While they were up there, they saw that the cap to our water heater vent/pipe thing was missing! Some of the complaint's about Tony are true. On two occasions we tentatively scheduled two different jobs. He wasn't able to follow through. He doesn't follow through on promising to call you back either. We had to chase him down. We used him twice on very small jobs. The guy was milking the 75.00 hr to paint a very small room. Another project he did the paint is chipping. We supplied the paint. Also on one job some argument took place with him and another co-worker in our presence. I feel this company does mediocre work. I provided most of my own items, but I mismeasured a mirror, resulting in there not being room above it for the lighting fixture that I had gotten. I called this company when I needed help with my upstairs loft. Termites had caused a lot of damage and some of the wood had to be replaced. Tony, the TME owner, came to me in North Hollywood all the way from Simi Valley. He has clients all over. He took one look and recognized the termite problems. He cut out a hole and offered to stay while the pest control people treated the underlying problem. Pest control couldn't come that day so Tony rescheduled, no problem. Tony was great to come out and give a look at several projects. He was really generous with his time and seemed to be very serious about his job and his reputation on angie's list. In person he was great. He made it seem like he could start right away and that he had seal team 6 behind him to take care of everything! We had a good feeling and looked forward to receiving a quote. We emailed what jobs we were interested in having him do and asked a few questions. Then we waited... After a few days we called to see if he'd received our email. He assured us he had and would be in touch soon. When the quote came back it was missing several items and he didn't address any of our questions. We waited a few days and followed up with another email that went unanswered. So, I haven't actually worked with Tony but we decided we didn't want to have to chase him down. We worried that if we did work with him that we'd be left hanging on other questions about our job. As for the quote itself - we were looking at demo for our flooring, straightening up existing cabinets and a couple of other odds and ends. We were planning on going with someone else for installing countertops but Tony said he had a great guy for that and that he'd be $25-30/sq ft (and I assume more for edges and undermount, etc.) so we though that sounded pretty good. When we received the quote, however, the install averaged about $50/sq ft so much higher than we were anticipating. The quotes for the flooring were higher than hardwood and tile installation specialists with excellent yelp reviews. Maybe it costs more to have a generalist do specialized tasks? Our job is somewhat small so perhaps it's not worth it for a guy who boasts of working for HGTV and doing huge kitchens with essentially blank checks. Anyway, I don't think that we deserve any less courtesy to respond to questions and emails. Even if this isn't a huge job we have quite a bit we'd like to do in the house down the road and we also have quite a few friends who are working on their homes who ask for recommendations. So, if you're asking for a recommendation I wouldn't give one to TME. Basically five stars for first impression and one star for lack of follow through and differences in pricing read more

I'm sure Tony is a great contractor, however it's apparent he's not very interested in obtaining any new business. I had to make a couple calls before he returned one and then we played phone tag for several days... why he couldn't seem to return calls appropriately was a concern, but ok... Then he advised me the middle of last week he couldn't come until today, 12/24 at 2PM. I wanted a quote to re-do the showers in both bath in tile. So I'd say a good sized job. Today he called around 11. My husband answered the phone and Tony advised he couldn't come as today was his birthday. Tony came to my home and set a date to demo my kitchen prior to Ikea cabinet installation. He arrived on the scheduled day, said he could not find parking (90048) and did not do the work. He called me 2 hours later and said he could use a smaller truck and park in my garage, but he needed extra money. He requested an additional $1000.00. I did not have a contract and I did not have a down payment. I refused to pay the additional money. I had to cancel the order for my new fridge and double oven. My cabinet were delivered 2 days later and I have no one to install them. I believe he thought he had my back against the wall and that I would pay any amount to get the work done. We had mold and rust and general nastiness that is typical in homes built in the 1950's, and it was way overdue for a remodel.
