Call after call all the hotels and motels were booked. Apparently there was a biker rally and we were doomed to drive back to San Antonio (an hour drive after a wedding! NO THANKS!). I stumbled across a website that had several rentals and b&bs, which listed the Last Outpost. I called up the phone number and was fortunate enough to reach the owner who was very nice and allowed us "Sophie's Cottage" for the evening. She asked that I call a receptionist who would give us all the details and make payment. The receptionist was a lot less friendly, but she provided the necessities including an email with a lock box key in case there wasn't anyone on the property. After driving 15 minutes from downtown Bandera we arrived to the Last Outpost. The large neighboring ranch road marker saved us from passing up the property. We drove on a bumpy dirt road unknowing how long and far it would take to reach the homes, but very quickly arrived to three houses on a nice patch of land. We were quickly greeted by some cats and roosters, then the cows, goats and donkeys arrived. Apparently the owners husband was remodeling one of the houses and he came to the house and turned on the ac as well as the TV with instructions for the cable. The house and the land was perfect! Just like the website shows, I was not disappointed in any aspect. Even taking a "bath" with no shower head was fun for the night (although not something I would do on a regular basis). My favorite thing about our stay was walking the property and admiring all the hard work the owners put in it. I must add the bed in Sophie's Cottage was the best I've slept on in YEARS! I was very happy that it was tall in height because you never know with country homes where any creepy critters may be lurking. Sunday morning a nice lady brought us breakfast in "cottage" which consisted of fresh banana, strawberries, orange juice, bacon and home made pancakes. My only complaint was after the wedding we could not find the entrance to the property in the dark. After passing the large ranch road marker and turning around on the very small two lane road was the only way we were able to slowly creep up to find the entrance. I would suggest something directly on the side of the road opposed to the carriage a little off the road along the fence line which is unseen at night. So, book a stay here for your trip to Bandera or maybe Medina river. It will be very relaxing and an enjoyable very country weekend!

Small, but perfect for us because it was not overrun with people in golf carts, 4 wheelers, etc. The owners, Lyn & Carol-anne, have their residence right next door, and are available for any issues or questions. And they delivered warm pumpkin bread loaves to all campers on Thanksgiving! They have built a great escape with this RV park. There is also a house, an apartment, and a renovated RV available for rent. Bandera is about 10-15 minutes away, if you have to "do something". Highly recommended. We will be back!

As others have said, there was a complimentary mason jar of deer corn on our picnic table and a printed sheet of park info. Lyn stopped by to say hello while we were setting up. He seems to always have something to keep him busy in the park...always on the go. They live up the hill, above the park, so they're close by if you need anything. There are two shower/restrooms: a converted horse trailer (so cool!) and the more traditional one that's part of the office building. The traditional one has a shower that is divine! Big and roomy, with real water pressure!!! The laundry is two/two deal, with each load costing a total of either $3 (your own laundry soap and dryer sheets) or $5 (their laundry soap and dryer sheets). The Wi-Fi is the best we've ever encountered! Never once were we knocked offline, no slow weak signal, we were able to stream as much as we wanted. It really was the best! This is a very small park and it feels more like you're hanging out in someone's backyard. Very cozy, very calm. Wildlife everywhere. We ended up buying 80 lbs of deer corn, strawberries, blueberries, cabbage, carrots, grapes and apples for the deer, as well as peanuts for the squirrel that lives in the knothole of the tree next to the deck. The wildlife was a big selling point in booking our stay here, and it did not disappoint: fawns, does, spikes, bucks, gray fox, raccoon, squirrels, cardinals, titmouses, doves and house finches were our visitors. I would imagine it's tough to get a reservation here during high season, but if you can, do it! You'll love it! (Word of caution...the last stretch of the drive here, maybe a quarter of a mile, is unmaintained gravel that requires a very slow crawl if you want to be kind to your rig. Take it slow and easy, and you'll be rewarded with a great stay at a lovely little gem of a park.)

The lodge facilities are truly amazing. Beautiful architecture and plenty of offerings to occupy my non-hunting time (pool table, chess, checkers, corn hole, ample book supply, TV/Cable, Wifi). The rooms were incredibly comfortably as well. Nights were peaceful and quiet, and the comfy bed/pillows made for some great snoozing. The A/C worked like a champ and was quiet all things considered. I've stayed in rooms where the A/C was reminiscent of being on the flight line watching B-52s take off. This was not that. Much appreciated! The food and service at the lodge were top shelf. Breakfast and dinners cooked up and served by Mike were amazing. And it wasn't just because I was hungry. The food is really really good! And Mike is at the ready to accommodate any special requests. We dined on Axis burgers, salmon, and fajitas during our three nights. More than enough food was dished out so even the largest of appetites won't be wanting for more. Breakfast is a repeat performance. Bacon, wild game sausage, eggs, pancakes, potatoes, cinnamon rolls oh my it's a veritable food parade. Pair it up with fresh coffee and I'm ready to permanently move in. But we were there for the hunting, so how was that? In a word... the best. Our guides Brent (who is also a wildlife biologist) and Kaden were on it! They worked hard to get us into position for our desired targets. This was my first hunt at a lodge and they graciously answered my nonstop questions. Our party took Fallow and Axis deer, which was great fun. The ranch's property is gorgeous, well maintained and spacious. We spent time with Keith, the main man in charge of the operation and also a wildlife biologist. He explained their philosophy towards the animals on their ranch. I was very impressed with the thinking, caring and effort put into ensuring the ranch's offerings remain the very best. There's a reason why it's hard to get a hunt lined up here. They don't over-harvest their ranch. If anything it's quite the opposite which I appreciate. The guys at the skinning house were just as fun. They do a great job to accommodate any special requests (e.g. mounts, cape, meat selection) and work hard to treat your catch with the utmost of respect. James, Jesse and the rest of the gang there were fun to hang with, swap stories and of course take care of our meat for the flight home. Their freezer was much appreciated! The coolers and contents were well-frozen when it was time for us to leave. Reflecting on our trip, I honestly can't come up with suggestions for improvements. They really hit it out of the park. The entire operation has a lot to be proud of, and it shows in the positive attitude and work ethic of their team. A subtle but very impressive takeaway was how well connected their team was. We would talk with one of their team and agree on something for the next hunt or whatever and their entire team knew about it and were on top of whatever it was. Seriously impressive. I've been to other organized vacations (ski trips, fishing charters) and I often need to have the same conversation multiple times leaving me with the feeling that they don't talk to each other and I have to work the logistics to make it happen. Not here! Maybe the only comment I could offer up would be to rename the ranch from "Flying A" to " Flying Five Stars Best Ever Ranch"... or something like that. Bibi met us at the office, she was very cordial, and engaging. The site is off the highway and South of Bandera. A short distance. I was a little reluctant about the site at first. They shut down the showers, but the laundry is open with a code. We did not need them. Bibi is always smiling and talkative and very cordial. We had questions about the place and she was very engaging. Some folks there were long term and very friendly and respectful. We would stay there again. Do not look for "fire rings" or picnic tables. The site is relaxing and friendly. BiBi will try to accommodate as best they can. AND if you are into craft brewing the " Bandera Ale Project" brewery is just across the highway. A cool place to hang out. Love it

We also had to play car swap with near-by family members a few times. They were very gracious in letting us do what we needed to do to make our visit as enjoyable as possible under the circumstances. We were also happy with how easy the check in and out procedures were. While staying at the park, we were able to keep to ourselves and never had any unexpected knocks on the door. Their sweet little kids were around but they too kept to themselves and were a delight when I brought my puppy to them to meet them. The park is conveniently located by Bandera but was not jammed packed and over priced. Very quiet and calm atmosphere. We will visit again for sure.
