I rarely leave negative reviews, but after several weeks of attempting to resolve a billing issue, I feel compelled to share my experience. My stay at La Cantera Resort was pleasant, and I checked out with a final folio that balanced correctly. However, after checkout, two additional charges totaling $271.01 appeared on my credit card. Neither charge appears on my final folio. Since discovering the charges, I have contacted the resort multiple times and opened a case with Hilton Guest Assistance. On several occasions, I was told someone would contact me within 24 hours. No one did. Most recently, Hilton informed me they have been unable to obtain a response from the resort regarding the disputed charges. I have no issue with the charges I knowingly incurred during my stay, as those match my receipts and records. My concern is with the unexplained charges and the lack of response despite weeks of follow-up. I encourage guests to carefully review their credit card statements after their stay and compare them to their final folio. read more

After visiting for a weekend daycation with my bestfriend, I feel indifferent about the experience. While the landscape was beautiful, the heat was hard to beat even with ordering a daybed to be under a fan. When we were first sat, it was next to a bush that had so many bees. We asked a server to move but she stated all daybeds were taken (despite some being empty through our stay). We asked a second server our request again because we were unable to even sit on the daybed without bees swarming on us. This second server was able to move us with no issues. Upon arrival there were no towels, we had to ask multiple times before we received any. The food was served quickly thankfully and was pretty good- as well as our drinks. We ordered a pina colada and gin based drink. Both were good but it was way too hot to drink how we wanted. The turkey sandwich, guacamole and chips, and chicken tenders were also good and pretty standard. There was a separate adult pool on the lower deck that was a lot quieter than the general pool (and no kids) with better music. We know for next time to just order chairs here. Ending the night, it took at least 25 minutes for our final receipt to be given. I had to approach the bar area twice to ask what was going on. There seemed to be confusion on our pool tab and how to close our Resort Pass. Spending over $300, the experience could've been a lot better with quicker service. It was also hard to follow who was our server as we were greeted by 4-5 people through our time. I would consider coming here on a calmer day out of season if looking for a more relaxing experience. 10/10 man. I came for my annual conference which always happens here, and I was delighted on my arrival to find they'd given me a complimentary upgrade to a villa! I have never stayed in a room so nice (and huge) in my life! It has its own parking lot, its own smaller pool, and all the rooms come with a glass of champagne on arrival and a golf cart to get around the resort property. That was the funnest part imo. You can still go swim at the main resort or use the facilities of course. The room itself as mentioned is massive; it has a living room with a TV, huge bed with a TV in that other room, a small kitchen, two part bathroom with a shower and tub in one separate area, and two patios outside. There is a little sitting area/courtyard in the front too which I just know would be lovely at night to sit and have a beer and look at the stars. The staff were attentive and helpful, and I can see how hard they work to keep their spaces clean and organized for guests. Personally I also just find the topaz pool (adult-only infinity pool) that overlooks the hill country to be a little happy place of mine. The vibes are A1. Overall: I've been coming here once per summer for a conference, and I hope it can be an annual thing since I just really like this resort and want to try some other San Antonio restaurants, including signature which is Michelin recommended and on this resort's property! read more

Stayed here for one night after attending an event at one of the ballrooms. It is a wonderful hotel that is classic and nice. Although paid parking is unfortunate, especially for how expensive rooms are. I'd think parking would be included for guests, but it's not. The self-parking is also hard to find spots and gets very crowded and is at the bottom of the hill, so it takes some time to get down and up, especially with luggage. Valet was too expensive. Overall, the facility is very clean, nice, and with many options for the spa (although the prices are high compared to other resorts and spas). The room was clean, big, and had a great view of the city. The employees were nice at the check-in table and the restaurants. Overall, the price is not worth it. read more

I enjoyed my recent stay at La Cantera Resort for a conference. The front desk staff were kind when I checked in, the room was clean and comfortable, and the grounds were very nice. I enjoyed the pools quite a bit. While the construction that is ongoing was a bit frustrating given I had a room right next to it, I think updates will be overall good for the hotel. The fitness center was spacious and not too crowded, with plenty of towel, which I appreciated. I do wish the signage around the complex was a bit better. Overall, a nice resort to stay at for a conference weekend with fun activities/pools to stay entertained after the conference ended each day. read more

I checked in two days ago and although my room and the service has been nice, since checking in, this evening made this stay a one star. I have an early morning flight tomorrow, and have to be up at 3:00 am, but the hotel has booked a band that is playing in the courtyard right outside my window/balcony. The band will be playing until 9:30 pm. I understand that the business has to have revenue but the staff should have said something when checking in as I would have never wanted a room where I'd be having to listen to a band outside my window, along with all the hollering from the attendees. This alone makes this rating a one star. Poor communication is not superior customer service. read more

It's pretty big as you pull up. Very welcoming staff as you enter a huge lobby area with about three front desk staff at check-in, with two other staff members over to the side. The check-in process was smooth; they gave you a hotel map, and the bellman brought your bag to the room. The room had outdoor seating, which was nice, but it's been raining on and off. Rooms are pretty big with lots of storage space for your clothes and luggage, and they also have two robes in the room. The room was nice and clean, with basic amenities, lotion, body wash, and shampoo, and the bed was pretty comfortable. The room service did a great job cleaning the room on both nights I've been here. I did have to go by the desk because my room key was not working, but it didn't take long to resolve, even though there was a check-in line. They also have complimentary lemon/lime water in the lobby for you to enjoy while you wait in line They also offer day passes, which would be a fun thing to do on those hot summer days to enjoy the pool And you will do a bit of walking, so be prepared for that read more

A mix of great and bad experiences. The bad outweighed the great. Great: Most of front desk was perfect. We booked a room on SEVEN and ALL the lounge attendants were superb. Spa was beautiful. Masseuse did amazing. Loved it. Bad*: When we got to the resort 1* we had to wait for valet as we saw 3 attendants, 2 talking and 1 sitting. After finally getting help 2* we walked past the other 2 attendants with our bags only to have to open the door myself. I can open a door, but am I wrong for thinking a part of hotel service was helping with bags or at least opening a door? We go check-in. As front desk is telling us about grounds, amenities, etc. 3* a porter interrupts to ask if we need help with our bags. When done with check-in I declined his help. Admittedly annoyed from the little assistance of valet then his rude interruption, "I got it" now. 4* A point of pause during check-in was being told hotel was changing to Hilton the next day. Everything we just did would be closed out and needed to check back in. 5* Fast forward, I went to check-in again next morning before breakfast, since it wasn't 11 AM I couldn't. My additional inconvenience was based on their schedule. @ our room we look around. 6* In bathroom sink there were little black spots. Easily wiped away with a tissue so we dont fuss. Next day we eat breakfast @ SweetFire Kitchen. Food was bad. Food is personal and everyone doesn't like everything but it wasn't worth finishing. I barely ate and the server noticed. He kindly offered to take meal off the tab, but I wasn't asking for compensation. I ordered it, didn't like it, that's on me. Even though it was part of my bad experience the server wasn't an issue. My opinion is with choice there are better options including Henrietta's which is just grab and go muffins, coffee, and etc. I also didn't like that the restaurant was relatively empty when we got there. Why were all the tables that came after us put next to or close to ours? Maybe I'm being extra but can we have our space not invaded by strangers if we don't have to? After breakfast we go back to room waiting for 11. In bathroom 7* more little black spots in sink. 8* Finally @ 11 we go check in. All transactions closed out. Give them a card to put on file. Basically duplicate efforts. @ this time I showed pics to front desk about sink. Moved to a new room. 9* New room was smaller. Our original booking was for a king. New room queen. At 6'3" I know difference between a king and queen. @ this point we have spa appointments and plans so we decide to just enjoy rest of the day. We check out next morning. Front desk asks about our stay. "How are you this morning?" "How was your stay?" "Did you enjoy the spa?" "Are you a Hilton reward member?" 10* After every reply he says "That's great." When I tell him about the issues in sink and our smaller room he still says "That's great." How do you tell someone you're not listening and don't care without saying it? We get car from valet and leave. Drive to mall less than 10 minutes away. I get out car and reach back in to grab my phones. 11* In the bright morning sun I see scratches on car seat. Immediately get in car and go back. Spoke to valet manager who fills a claim. Promises I'll hear from someone in 48 hours. I got an email 9 days later. 12* 2 days later my claim is denied because I reported the damage after I left the premises "a fair determination cannot be made as to when and where the incident occurred." We took car from valet multiple times. Based on that logic the 1st time I take car out "a fair determination cannot be made." See the attached pic, tell me if the scratches could be from something in someone's back pocket like keys. If you agree, can you think of any job that might keep keys in their back pockets? If we went for a day trip things might've been perfect. Since we stayed longer maybe too many chances for mistakes. Water always finds its level. The grounds are beautiful, but service is what makes a business. If you can, go elsewhere. If you go here don't use valet. Don't go to SweetFire Kitchen. Don't trust they care. read more

If you want luxury and typical room amenities, this isn't it. This is the most disappointing hotel I've stayed at in 10 years. My husband booked a suite for 2 nights. He made the reservation over the phone, to easily confirm everything. We were assured there was a separate room or divider, for privacy from our kids. Our room ($1,200 per night) isn't what we booked over the phone. It is essentially one huge room--no divider or partition for privacy. The TV doesn't face the bed and doesn't move. There is no way to face it towards the bed. It faces the entry. Not only that, none of the remotes work on it, and the plug is behind the mount and we can't unplug it. Spending my birthday night waiting for maintenance at 9:45 PM to turn off a TV that is essentially useless isn't what we had in mind. Extremely disappointing. There is 0 wall art in the room. There is one piece of framed art in the toilet room, but that's it. I've stayed in motels nicer than this. We called down to the front desk immediately upon arrival, and nothing was done, and the woman hung up on my husband. It feels like a bare overflow room. I wouldn't pay $150 for this. It looks like a hospital in here. It also smells like paint. I had to go down and show them pictures of our room and ask what the deal is. The man I spoke with at the front desk was kind (nicer than the women who hung up on us) but said there was nothing he could do tonight. Apparently, we are getting a room change tomorrow when rooms become available and a discount on this one. I'm hopeful they will correct this, but based on our stay thus far... it isn't looking great. I don't want half off my room for tonight, I wanted what I booked for my birthday. Again, I wouldn't even pay $200 for this. Ruined my birthday. TERRIBLE hospitality. Basic, cheap, microfiber bedding. Will never stay here again. If I didn't have spa reservations tomorrow and little kids that need to go to bed after a long travel day, we would have gone elsewhere. The only place we stay in San Antonio! Every time we visit this part of Texas we always find our way back here, rooms, dining, and amenities are awesome! Starting off with dining, my favorite place here is Primero Cantina located by the pools has some delicious Mexican food. I love the chips and guacamole for a starter and the chicken quesadilla for the main course but almost everything is delicious here. Service at all restaurants and parts of the hotel are great. Breakfast is at sweet fire kitchen where they have a great selection of dishes on and off the buffet. The rooms are always nice and clean here and the balconies offer nice views, the pools are truly the highlight. The many pools include 2 infinity pools, 2 hot tubs, and 2 more pools (one featuring slides). Only problem was a wasp issue but they are resolving it. Overall this is the best place to stay in the area no matter what you're doing or when you go! read more

I stayed at your property at the end of June and reserved a room with a bunk bed. My guest woke up with a rash and raised, zigzag bumps--likely from insect bites. I reported it at checkout and followed up with Thomas Garcia before the July 4th weekend. I sent photos and a doctor's note via emails to Thomas Gracia but the call was disconnected and never returned. I called him back right after they said that he will get back to me but never did. I called again mid-July and spoke with Brian, who apologized and said Thomas would follow up. It's now August, and I've received no response from Mr Gracia. I hate to chase around bad service. This level of service is unacceptable due to in professional management that run this hotel. read more

The ambiance and lighting on outside are gorgeous and inviting. The atmosphere and decor is gorgeous, top quality. Service has been immaculate so far. Upon arriving I was immediately greeted and offered valet parking. The reception desk is in the grand lobby! They give you a map of the property and a tour upon request. 2 pools onsite a family pool and adult pool. Walking trails on property allow for great views and lush trails. Beautiful golf course on property as well! The spa is 10/10 highly recommend! There is a recreation area at the spa that has a separate pool as well. read more

What a weekend! Gorgeous views, amazing food, and a spa unlike most others! We spent Easter weekend with some close friends to simply getaway and I am so glad we finally made it out here. Let's see if I can break down my favorite things... Sweet fire cafe: favorite lunch spot.. pizzas were delicious. My friend loved her salad with chicken. The service staff were so friendly and attentive. The spa: good grief... I should write a whole post just about the spa. Just go. Pro Tip: Ara for your massage is the way to go... her hands were kissed by angles. Signature restaurant: make reservations in advance, you will not regret it. If you don't, hit up the concierge and sometimes they can work their magic! If you go with a group, definitely order family style. Highly recommend the scallops, venison, beef tenderloin, and gnocchi. If you really want to step it up: ask for Alyssa. She will NOT steer you wrong! She was 10/10 on drinks, appetizers, entrees, and desserts! She was so kind and knowledgeable! The service at this restaurant is top notch from the moment you sit down! It's no wonder they were Micheline recommended!!!!! Overall: the resort grounds are gorgeous! Impeccably clean at every turn! The complimentary bottles of water are a small but thoughtful touch when you have been out by the pool(s) all day.... And trust me... it's hard to leave the pools! Cons: ...I will preface with these are very minor and would not deter me from coming back... -the weekend breakfast buffet was fine. Not great. Exactly what you would expect from a resort breakfast buffet. Because of that I would say it's a tad overpriced. - the tv doesn't have a "guide" feature so we're back to 1997 and flipping through each channel. (told you they were minor) - the bed/ and sheets were not my fav. They come untucked and bunched up super easily. Let me start with this: if you go to La Cantera Resort for a CONFERENCE, you will likely be treated quite well. My son was there three days prior for a conference and had a very rewarding experience. Those events generate big dollars for the resort. As for those of us there for personal leisure, here's my own, not so great, experience. We are two, easy-going, retired adults. First off, in spite of a room rate of +/-$400/day, (basic room) you will have to pay dearly to park, either $29 (self) or $42 (valet) per day. And if you self park, it's a bit of a jaunt to the car. So bring in everything before you park. Secondly, I reserved, and confirmed, a Deluxe King Hill Country VIEW room. Instead, WHAT WE GOT was a room viewing the windows of the opposite side of the building. We had driven all day and had napped immediately after checking in, so we hadn't opened the drapes until two hours later. The room itself was nice enough but not "elegant". Bathroom was very nice. I will say that we were allowed to check in early, so that is appreciated as we were exhausted. Included in our room were two small bottles of water (can't drink the tap water) and enough coffee (Keirig cups) to make exactly two cups of coffee, one per guest. A third decaf K-cup, too. Wow, so generous (sarcasm). Keep in mind there is not a breakfast included like some chain hotels. So EVERYTHING is an additional charge at one of many restaurants in the resort. And no vending machines anywhere. When I set about to fill the ice bucket, I discovered the ice makers on our floor, and THREE other floors, were not working. I literally went floor to floor looking for ice. Finally, I went to front desk ( didn't answer my two calls) and the guy there sent me to the bar off the lobby for the ice. The bartender kindly obliged. The staff were friendly enough but apparently not highly capable, given that we got the wrong kind of room. All of this is just SO DISAPPOINTING. I won't be going to La Cantera Resort again. I'll spend my money somewhere where I feel better rewarded. read more

DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE...... So where to start let's see, how about parking is close to 50 and self parking then you have to walk uphill incline quite aways away then, once you come back to your car you have nice little surprise of ant infestation. Second took forever when we had it booked we waited in the lobby about 2 hours for it to be ready and once we got into the room for the prices they charge was ridiculous the room just plain Ol standard rooms you can get at Hampton or hilton, unless you can afford one or their villas then maybe much nicer but definitely comes with hefty price tag. Then a friend set up surprise for me for our anniversary and got a charcuterie board and champagne the food on the board was not good at all. The "champagne" was cheap 6 dollar bottle. Next they also set up for spa day for me when I booked no mention of it I had to call down several times to ask about it and basically they charge a fee just to get into the spa which is what my friend got me not knowing that all that includes is just to use the pool over there or the hot tub or steam room I believe but either no services for this price massages and packages at least 200 dollar ones are separate nothing like that included in the spa day fee. The last things that really upset me was I lost my ring and I knew exactly where I lost it in the room and called right after we checked out to find out if they found it the guy said he would ask them but they never called me back so I called again few days later no one saw it my husband had left his brand new dress shirt hanging in closet also and they said they didn't find it either. That ring was over 800 dollars and im super sad about that ring I sent them photos have emailed them multiple times still nothing its obvious their maids still items left behind in the rooms and don't report them unless the manager I spoke to went and found it and kept it to sell or something I dont know. I had an awful experience for such a "nice" place. It was not worth the money especially since I will never see my ring again. The only decent part was the girl in the café so friendly and gave us ice cream for our anniversary and the restaurant we ate at was amazing, everything except the dessert the carrot cake was awful the cinnamon ice cream was delicious and the best burger we have ever had and the bribed iced tea chicken was good however unfortunately that was the only good part of the experience so disappointed. read more

We visited La Cantera Resort for Mothers Day Weekend (for the second year in a row) as my mom loves the brunch they host at SweetFire Kitchen. We were a bit surprised to see that construction was going on during this most recent visit, but overall it didn't impact our visit. Upon arrival, it was crowded in the line for valet so we waited and eventually were able to pull up in front of the doors. Unfortunately, the valet never came to the car so we parked and walked up to their stand to give them a keys/ check the car in. You could tell that they were very busy and a bit overwhelmed with the volume of cars. The same thing happened when trying to pick up our car as well... we stood their waiting for them to acknowledge we were there and eventually had to just walk up to someone and ask for them to help get our car. Once inside the resort... it is stunning in all aspects. The lobby is beautiful, the food is delicious and everyone is very friendly and happy to help. I did ask a few staff members about events going on and such and I felt as though the answers were just being made up rather than admitting they didn't know. Regardless, it wasn't a big deal. My favorite thing about the resort would definitely have to be the views, the pool area and the gardens - I never wanted to leave! While this is a beautiful resort, their employees and staff seem to be a bit stretched and cannot accommodate all the guests in the manner expected at such an expensive resort. read more

We stayed here for the Fourth of July weekend. It is beautiful as you pull up and inside is beautiful too but that's about it . First of all I think management should take the resort off of the name and just call it La Cantera hotel. The valet situation took a long time and no one helped my husband or came up to him. An older gentlemen finally asked him if he needed valet but he declined and said he will park himself as he mentioned the valet guys did not look experienced. When we arrived to the room I noticed the bathroom had a tissue paper on the floor and a damp small towel there. I did not complain because everything else was fine in the bathroom. Later I noticed there was no shower cap for if you do not want to get your hair wet. Usually resorts give you that and even hotels give you shower caps. I'm not sure if they are being cheap or what. I was also suprised there was no store inside this resort. Most resorts have a store with beachwear and things in case you forget something. This place had no store. The beds were awful to sleep in at night. Every time I turned I could hear myself. I've never wanted to go home so bad. Thank God we only stayed for two nights. We booked dinner at primero cantina on the first night. Our server was nice but he seemed new or inexperienced. He didn't speak up that loud and looked like his thoughts were elsewhere. He was polite though. My husband and I and even my son's silverware all had soap stain on it. It was very noticeable and I had it laid out on the table. Before I said anything the server made a sound and took it away. He gave us washed silverware and we began to order. I ordered green Chile chicken enchiladas and husband ordered beef quesadillas and my son ordered the chicken tenders. . Husband and son liked their food but I didn't like my enchiladas. It had no flavor but I thought beans and rice would be good but sadly it was not. It seemed like nothing had flavor or salt in it. I thought San Antonio would have awesome Mexican food but I think I'm spoiled by living in houston. The food scene in Houston is awesome and I'm disappointed when visiting other surrounding cities in Texas. We went to Henriettas market to get coffee and fresh baked cookies. The coffee and cookies were good but the two girls at the counter at the time hardly had a smile on their face. It made me not want to order anything else. We ordered room service for breakfast the next day and the food was bland. I think they forgot to add salt to my food. I love eggs but I couldn't eat even half of my veggie omelette. They messed up on my h husbands order as he was supposed to get the classic breakfast but he got pancakes instead. He did not want to make a fuss and ate the pancakes. My son like his waffles. My big disappointment was the pool area. If the pool opens at 8 am , I think towels should be available at 8 am but it was only until 10:30 they were available. I've been to REAL RESORTS and the towels are usually ready along with plenty of staf available to help. This place either needs new management or a big rebranding or maybe they need to stop hiring kids and hire professionals. This place does not feel like a resort. The gardens are pretty and the pools are nice but the service does not even compare to that of a four or five star hotel. I will say that sweet fire kitchen was pleasantly surprising. It was very good and had a great atmosphere. They have an open air kitchen concept and I noticed the manager or who I assumed was the manager wearing the black blazer was also taking plates to serve guests. That's always awesome when the manager is helping. I had the blackened redfish and my husband had the steak. We both enjoyed our meal. Our cocktails were good too. Our server was awesome was also. We visited this hotel 2 years ago and it wasn't as run down as it is now. Our shower was broken. Our bed was so uncomfortable because as the attendant in the lobby told us, the hotel is going to be updated soon. The wifi was super slow because of a huge work convention there. Thank God for Candice and Henry at the Villas, they tried so hard to accommodate us. They went out of our way to get our shower fixed and comped us for all the inconveniences. This Rating would've been a solid 3 if it weren't for Candace and Henry. Also, the room service people were so friendly and available. We can't wait until the Villas get updated so that we can come back. We loved the three pools ‍‍, especially the private pool at The Villas. We'd loved the bar, and the drinks were exquisite at The Sire bar. They even had mock tails for me! The Fitness area was perfect for all my fitness needs.‍. La Cantera is a fantastic resort and I had a great time. The grounds are beautiful with an overall feel of tranquility and picturesque views of the Texas Hill Country, as well as the city lights at night. Also enjoyed the spa but felt the pool was the best part while the sanitariums were just okay - had much better spa experiences both north/south of the border (Montreal & Monterrey to be specific). I found the restaurants to be very good and had great burger at sweet fire. The areas that I would say are negatives: 1) the rooms are dated and not that nice (carpet is bad for allergies in TX) 2) the food at the spa and the 24 hour cafe was like boxed airport food - you have to do better as not everyone wants to leave the resort for meals or casual bites 3) lack of recycling for said boxed food. I really dislike food waste and having to throw out recyclable items. 4) it is pricey so overall might expect a bit more when laying out the dough. read more

I so wanted to like this place...was so excited to have a fun girls weekend...it turned into a hilarious joke all weekend about how bazaar everything turned out to be. From check in we didn't get the room we booked (booked a deluxe queen room with view)...got a view of the roof and no balcony whatsoever (what was shown in the hotel pics). There was no introduction to the property or a welcome speech or anything to let us know where anything was on the 500 acre property. Our A/C in the room was broken the entire weekend and never fixed really. Everything just was subpar...the food, the service, the actual room...which would be totally fine if we weren't paying 600$ dollars a night. So let down. I would not recommend coming back. If you're looking for a hill country getaway...maybe check out Omni Barton Creek or Hilton Hill Country. You will get way more consistent services at a much better rate. read more

Had a girls only staycation with one of my besties, celebrating her b'day & catching up on things as we haven't seen each other since November 2023!! She got a new dream job and has been busy, busy, busy and you know, time flies and before you know it, it's 4 months later!! Anyhoo, we went shopping and lunch before we checked in and thank God I decided to pay an early check-in upgrade that they offered me a week prior so I could check in at 1pm. They granted me as early as 12pm. I was able to request 2 queens a couple of days before and luckily they were able to accommodate. Check-in was swift, no line and 2 attendants. I requested a bellman, Sandy who was so gracious, polite & courteous. The floor and configuration was deceiving because the lobby is on the 3rd floor which is ground level. Taking the elevator to our 2nd floor was going down. Also, to get to our room using a certain elevator, you have to walk some steps up onto the 2nd floor and a few turns left, right, left down the hall and right or something like that which was past the fitness area and small store with leisure clothes, hats & accessories. Finally reaching the room was nice as the TV Monitor was on with looping pleasant music & welcoming guests to the resort onscreen. I toured the room and saw the view to the garden with a table, one chair on the patio that overlooked the Topaz pool area. You could hear the music playing if you were outside but once closed, the room was very insulated & oblivious to the sounds outside. The curtains are blackout curtains and sheer drapes in front of them. There's a mini fridge w/no icebox, Keurig coffee station w/3 Green Mountain Coffee Pods, paper coffee cups with lids and sugar/sugar substitutes and stir sticks, 2 separate closets which was nice & included long tan robes which was awesome, a safe inside one of the closets that uses a key(not sure where to get it), a granite-top counter with dual sinks, a tub with a large rain-shower head and detachable sprayer and a separate toilet area. The toilet has 2 options for flushing which uses less water on one button for conservation purposes. I would suggest that one of the light switches should only light up the toilet area, not both bathroom & toilet and they need an overhead fan in the bathroom to suck out the steam. Also, the bathtub was not completely draining so they needed to fix that as you're taking a shower and there's about 2-3" of water pooling above your feet until you turn off the water. There's bar soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotion & a hair-dryer available. Everything was clean in the room and the beds had lots of pillows and a fluffy down(?) comforter. The bed was of semi-medium firmness so I was somewhat sinking. I prefer firm but was okay because it was just one night. I prefer a firmer, plush mattress as in the Marriott & Hilton Hotel beds. After check-in I met up with my friend back at La Cantera Mall and we had lunch, shopped a bit and came back. It was crazy-busy at the Valet area by 4pm when more people were checking in so I was glad I checked-in early. I found out the next day that the Phoenix Suns's entourage had checked in. I saw a police escort for a bus so figured there were some VIPs in the house. My friend & I hung out at the room until our in-room therapeutic massage person had come a few hours later. Afterwards, we headed to the hot tub for about an hour. It got cooler temperature wise so it was nice & convenient to have our full-length robes to wrap ourselves in afterwards! The pool area was quiet at that hour and only one bar was open nearby but the doors were closed so it was perfect and serene at the hot tub. There were about 3 other girls in the hot tub with us but there was a lot of room & not crowded. Massage and hot tub in serene surroundings overlooking the hillside with almost a full moon was a perfect night for me! Service was courteous, helpful and polite, esp. online, the Bellman Sandy, front desk, the female attendant at the store by the fitness center who helped us open a cork-topped Sparkling Rosé bottle we had been struggling with(LOL!!), Sweetfire Kitchen servers/waiters/greeter and employees you'd come across in the hallway. The parking text was a bit confusing because I thought I had to enter a text when I left the premises each time but nothing went thru when I had tried to use it after check-in and was headed to the mall. The arm automatically went up? It was only on the check-out day that I found out I had to use the code to activate the arm to exit. There was an attendant so she just looked up my license plate and input it manually. All in all, it was a nice getaway where I felt it was quiet, serene and with a small resort-like feel. We didn't even feel like we were in San Antonio!! I think with it being the off-season, the grounds were quieter. Can't wait to come back! read more

Please spend your money elsewhere. This was, without question, the most awful trip I have ever had -- and unfortunately, it was also the most expensive. My husband had planned it as a sweet surprise for my 40th birthday. Instead, it turned into an incredibly frustrating and disappointing experience. We still have not been refunded our money. The second manager we were escalated to, Dylan, stopped responding to my emails, so I reached out to the person listed as the General Manager on their website. No level of management was responsive, professional, or able to resolve the issues we experienced during our stay. When we arrived, we were told there was a major issue with our reservation. Staff initially blamed Expedia and had us call them multiple times, only to later admit the error was actually on the resort's end. This caused over an hour delay at check-in. During that delay, the manager, Nathan, was called to assist -- but he handled the situation unprofessionally. He did not greet us or acknowledge that we had already been waiting for 45 minutes. He offered no apology or thanks for our patience, and simply repeated the same unsuccessful check-in steps the other staff had already tried. After multiple failed attempts by Nathan and another 30 minutes, he just asked my husband to swipe his card for a fifth time, without any recognition of the inconvenience. It finally worked, but again nothing professional or kind from Nathan. The service staff apologized for him stating, "We call him the man of few words." While we were waiting -- still unable to access a room that cost over $300 per night -- I needed to use the restroom but had to be escorted to another floor, as there were no public restrooms available on the seventh floor (the adults-only level). The resort had already acknowledged that the reservation issue was on their end, but we were still left waiting without resolution for far too long and without access to a restroom on the floor we were paying for. Parking was another disaster. My husband was told ahead of check-in that parking was complimentary for seventh-floor guests, and that was confirmed by staff before we arrived. However, when we got to the lot, there were signs everywhere instructing us to pay. I called the hotel to confirm again and was told we needed to pay, despite what we had previously been told. We went ahead and paid the high fee -- which didn't include valet -- only to later learn, by accident through the concierge on the 7th floor, that we actually shouldn't have paid at all. We made multiple attempts to resolve the parking fee. During the third attempt, a reservations staff member raised their voice at me and repeatedly spoke over me, even though I was calm and simply trying to explain that we had confirmed free parking with resort staff before our arrival. She told me I must not have stated I was on the 7th floor and that was the cause of the problem. I told her repeatedly that I mentioned the 7th floor as it was supposed to be a perk of the adults only floor. It was unprofessional and unnecessary. To make things worse, the valet later tried to charge us again for parking, even after we explained that we had already paid and were waiting for a refund. On the morning of April 19, the fire alarms went off and evacuation procedures were initiated. Once the alarms stopped and the "all clear" was given, there was no communication or reassurance from management regarding what had happened. Guests were left in the dark. My husband had also arranged a spa appointment for me at 1:45 p.m. on April 18. He never received a confirmation email, and when he called to follow up, he was told the appointment had been incorrectly scheduled for 11:45 a.m. -- a time we never requested. We had to rearrange our entire day to accommodate the error. I do want to mention that the bar staff -- including a new trainee -- were excellent and deserve recognition. One bartender made outstanding specialty cocktails. However, the food was lackluster, and the other bartenders appeared unfamiliar with the resort's own drink menu. While we remained patient and hopeful that someone would resolve these issues, that never happened. The billing issue is still unresolved, and no meaningful compensation has been offered, despite multiple promises. Since April, my husband and I have enjoyed two other resort stays -- both extremely affordable and absolutely wonderful. The food, service, and experience at those properties far exceeded what we encountered at La Cantera. We gave the staff every opportunity to make this right, and they failed. We booked a 4-hour spa treatment months in advance only for them to call the day before and tell us the tub doesn't work. It would be one thing if the equipment just went down, but they had the nerve to offer only a 1-hour massage instead and made no attempt to make up for ruining a day we've had planned for MONTHS. Nothing....no realistic alternative options....no genuine effort to do anything of substance. Had you bothered to make the smallest of efforts to offer something that was actually equivalent to what we booked, we might have actually considered rescheduling for a day when you know how to pay for maintenance on your equipment. I am so disappointed in the room. We wanted to have a fun getaway with our kids and booked the deluxe room. Our view out the window is posted below. We have had several gnats in the bathroom (from mold maybe?) and a towel was dirty. If we had booked mediocre hotel, I would have expected it. My husband surprised me with the stay over the weekend at this resort for our anniversary! Because we have Littles it's harder for us to leave the state now so we decided to have a staycation. The grounds are so beautiful. There was a moment when I really did feel like I was in a different place! Although it was a hotter day, because you're so much higher in the hill country area it feels a lot better outside. we stayed over a weekend and there surprisingly wasn't too many people but so many places for seating because it was so huge! One of the coolest takeaways was there were three different pools. One for Family , one for kids with the waterslide that looked fun for them, and one just for adults! The adult section was pretty much full the entire time we were there, but we stayed in the family section since it was a lot bigger and it was very peaceful. We were a little bummed that the hot tub for the family section was under construction they were quite a few places under construction that we ran into while we were there. I would say that the rooms are a little bit more outdated than I expected. It looked pretty of a room, but not something that I would expect for this type of resort. It doesn't really match the outside and isn't that much of an enjoyable interior in case you're just trying to enjoy the room as well. Our room was right across from Six Flags. We were able to watch the fireworks at night outside the balcony. There are quite a few restaurants on the resort to eat from with a few options, which is great! there's also a café that's open 24 hours nearby the lobby. Because of how enjoyable the pool area was with all of the space and fire pits and peaceful areas to walk through, I would stay again ! read more

We considered La Cantera resort for our wedding due to the gorgeous grounds. After getting in contact with a sales rep our experience was less than acceptable for this type of venue. Our scheduled call was cancelled via email same day, we asked for a new contact to work with as ours was unresponsive. We received an apology email, gave her a second chance. We toured the venue, she was fine during the tour. Promised to reach out with responses to our questions, it's been over a week with no answers. If our customer service experience has been this poor while they're trying to "sell us" wonder what it would be once they have our deposit. Due to this experience we decided not to go with La Cantera to host our wedding. It's a bit bizarre to me that a venue at this level has such poor customer service when a customer is going to spend thousands of dollars with them. read more

Phenomenal place! We really enjoyed our one night stay and we hope to return sometime in the future if in TX. They got us upgraded to the Villa room which was very nice, but I am sure the regular rooms would be the same. The service was amazing! Checking in to checking out was pleasant and enjoyed talking to friendly employees. Placide and Reggie are the two that I remember the names, they were both wonderful and made us feel very welcomed but everyone was nice in the resort. We even got our own personal golf cart, which was one of the highlit of our stay. La Cantera is very clean, modern and well kept. Overall nice resort but showing its age and in need of some service improvements. We observed extensive need for maintenance and renovation throughout from furniture to wallpaper. Arrival: We arrived in a limo and the doorman was very attentive. Check-in at the front desk was slow and inefficient. Room (6104): two double beds, small LG TV, mini-refrigerator, Keurig coffee maker. Normal room. Lots of wear and tear on everything from carpet to furniture. Our Keurig coffee maker had a pod explode all over the place. Staff replaced with another Keurig Beds: decent linens but very worn and pathetic beds. Bathroom: no vent fan, fogs up easily. Very old tub/shower fixtures with low water pressure. Tub faucet loose and coming out of wall (rather third world). Housekeeping: very hit and miss. Appears housekeepers are overwhelmed. Restaurants: several dining options on site from sandwiches to fine dining. WiFi in room: free wifi with no upgrade options. Ran an Nperf test 83 Mb down / 17.9 up. Not the best for remote work involving heavy data. Conference facilities: Decent conference facilities. Good AC, HVAC operated well even in summer. Pools/fun stuff: Large but totally dirty pools. Found everything from many dead roaches, dirt, food, etc in the pools. VERY DIRTY. Golf course, hiking trails, etc. Overall service: mediocre. Example- (1) very, very slow check in. (2) Couldn't get a checkout time after 12:00. (3) A friend came to pick us up and the valets would not let her leave her car for even 2 minutes to go into the lobby. She offered to leave her keys, but the valets insisted she remain in her car. Misc: On the positive side, we received some chocolates and nuts as a welcome gift during our stay read more

Overall was very dissatisfied with my stay. I planned a very special 10yr anniversary stay here with my wife. I pre-ordered in speaking with the concierge when booking to have the room set up special with champagne, chocolate, roses on the bed etc -set up to surprise my wife upon arrival to the room. When we checked in and got to our room nothing was not set up. In fact I was given the wrong room entirely. A double twin bed room. The next day the concierge called, made their apology, and said they would send a bottle of champagne and have the room cleaned and ready upon our return from the pool. We were gone 6hrs (10:30am-4:30pm)and upon our return found the room to have not been touched. There was however a bottle of champagne and strawberries which was appreciated-set on the tv stand between our dirty towels and empty water bottles ...I was next contacted by the front desk and offered an upgraded suit. This would mean gathering up all our belongings and moving to what would have been our 3rd room of a two night stay. At this point I conveyed my frustration with the front desk manager and declined the offer to move rooms again. The next day we checked out around 10a.m. After a very disappointing stay altogether and to add insult to injury, when I went to retrieve my truck I observed front end damage to my truck that hadn't been moved since our arrival. The license plate was destroyed, the mounting plate was ripped almost completely off and the front bumper paint was scratched. I did file a complaint with security. To say my stay at the resort was disappointing would be an understatement. I made reservations well in advance for this special occasion and they seemed to have just been forgotten about. Then being offered an apology that was not met and walking out to a truck that was damaged seemed almost personal at this point. This two day stay not only cost me upwards of a thousand dollars but also least as much in damages to my new truck. I will not be returning to the resort again and recommending to friends and family to stay away as well *reposting the review from my husband but I would like to add that our server Isaac and his manager Cody Moses at Sweetfire Kitchen on the property were AMAZING. Isaac was wonderful and went above and beyond to make our dinner special and even surprised us with a very sweet happy anniversary desert. Thankyou for truly giving such wonderful service. The La Cantera Concierge needs to learn from Isaac's attention to detail, customer service and kindness. It would have been an outstanding 5 star review if the La Cantera staff had all treated us the way he had. read more
