We came here for a birthday gathering and they were able to accommodate a large group of us on a Friday night (about 12 people). There is mandatory 18% gratuity on top of your bill for large parties. The service was standard - not too slow but nothing amazing for 5 stars. The restaurant food itself is not the best sushi in town but also not too bad! A lot of us ordered the combo sets and a couple of my friends ordered their sushi boat. They also have a variety of vegetarian options for my vegetarian friends and other menu items for those who don't eat sushi. I ordered the salmon sushi and sashimi set that comes with 7 pieces of sushi, 6 piece salmon roll and 5 pieces salmon sashimi ($27). It didn't taste the most fresh or flavourful but it was still decent. They also provide miso soup and green salad on the side with combo sets which is a nice addition. My partner ordered a similar combo but with tuna ($29). The tuna was okay and didn't have much flavor either. Although not the best sushi, it still tasted okay to satisfy sushi craving. They also add jalapeño and spring onion or chives on top of sushi pieces which I don't find it necessary. The sushi pieces had a good rice to fish ratio but I've had better sushi downtown Toronto. I think the quality is similar to the monkey sushi chain in Toronto but monkey sushi price point is cheaper for similar menu items we ordered. Overall, I much prefer to visit other sushi joints in downtown over To-Ne, but only came here for a friends birthday gathering. They can accommodate large groups and sushi is good with large menu selection, but quality is just decent - nothing amazing. read more

3.5 stars we made reservations but weren't asked to confirm them, and got seated right away. we ordered everything from a QR code so our actual service was super limited. they had a lot of take out orders so they sushi bar was really backed up and many tables around us were waiting a long time. the actual food was pretty good. we ordered miso soup, tempura shrimp, and few different sushis. all yummy and fresh. it's definitely not bad but i do think there are better places. i was really missing the service. read more

There were about 15-16 tables in the place and no seating at the sushi bar, but they also do a big takeout business. They had ONE server and two sushi chefs working nonstop. So no matter how hard that poor woman hustled, she just kept getting further behind. People would come in and wait a long time to be seated, tables weren't being cleared after diners left, and so on. Maybe I was just there on the wrong night. The general ambiance was fine and the food was good, when it finally came. One thing that rankled a bit was that they were out of one item, and apologized for that, but it remained on the bill at the end. My main complaint is absolute lack of service: very not hospitable waitress, who never checked up on me at any point. Ordered from a QR code, she brought the food out. I had to get up myself to request a water refill, which at this point should just be self serve if you aren't checking up on your customers (and I was the only one, so it wasn't even busy). A friend of mine suggested to visit here; and I was glad I did. Cloudy Autumn evening, stopped by for a sushi dinner. Place was rather empty as there were only a few customers inside. However, phone kept ringing as lots of take-out / delivery orders coming as it seemed. Single waitress was handling everything by herself on the floor and take-out orders. Anyway, order needed to be placed from mobile phone after scanning QR code on tables. ...did not know this and wasted quite time just waiting for being served. Ordered UME Sushi set - came with a small salad, miso soup, and Sushi plate. I don't have much to say about Salad and miso soup except that salad dressing was too sweet for my taste. Sushi plate, however, came out nicely...honestly, did not expect that quality and amount. For the price, it was really a good deal, I thought. I don't have a particular complaint about To-ne, which is named after a Japanese river, other than how the quality of sushi at these Korean-owned Japanese food establishments is always middling and they have a menu full of inauthentic items. I understand saucy beef plates and spicy hot sauced rolls cater to the Canadian masses who want... dragon roll!! but when I eat Japanese I want... Japanese. Why was I here? I never know how to exactly refuse when someone invites me to a place like To-ne that, in my prejudice, I know beforehand I will not enjoy. It is what it is. I can get out of it occasionally and I am stuck on other occasions. I tried their tempura and had a few sashimi cuts and they were fine. The prices are average and the Korean chefs seemed to have cut the items correctly. The sauce for tempura was missing some flavour and was more watery than i prefer. With that said, let me be clear that for most folks there is nothing wrong with dining at To-ne. Most would enjoy it. They have a wide menu that emphasizes combos and bentos and is less about nigiri sushi or authentic Japanese items, but the tastes and flavours in the menu items should cut it for the average person. The premises are slightly darker, the restaurant seemed clean (especially given how their location is at one of Toronto's more dirty neighbourhoods) and most definitely they gained a point from me for their friendly and service-oriented waitress. The blonde Korean girl was attentive and caring. The menu is accessible with a QR code, but they still have paper menus should one ask for it. read more

The first thing you'll notice when you get To-ne's rolls are the amazing rice to filling ratios. They do not use a lot of rice, but they do stuff the rolls quite a lot. This results in a much different taste from other sushi restaurants that skimp on the filling. And it is different in a very, very good way! The salad and miso soup were good. I liked how the miso soup came with a few tofu pieces in it. They also included an extra mini noodle soup despite the menu not saying the combo I ordered came with one. That was tasty too. I enjoyed the triple spicy rolls, and they were presented in such an aesthetically pleasing way too. Every bite was full of fish, and the fish would all pleasantly melt in your mouth. Service was just okay. I had to get their attention whenever I wanted something which was typical for Asian places, but at least they never forgot anything. read more

I haven't eaten here in years. We came because the place we usually go to had a 45 minute wait. The fish was fine and the taste was fine but what I really didn't like was the obligatory 18% gratuity that was added for our table of 6. First of all, we had 2 kids. That in itself should not count towards the head count. We had to wait quite a long time to get even the small sashimi boat. Although the server did say they were backed up, it seemed to be disproportionate to the level of effort required to slice raw fish. Yes, we were given a little bowl of noodles in broth. Everyone gets that as a starter. I'd say we waited at least 30 minutes for our main dishes to arrive. The gratuity was added after taxes and it wasn't even listed on the receipt. I consider this a cash grab. The service was good otherwise, but the wait time really was excessive. Had they provided us with some sort of appetizer to hold us over, that would've been a kind gesture. I will be sticking to my regular sushi destination down the street. read more

At its price range, To-Ne Sushi has some of the best service in the city. The team are friendly and attentive but never too much. The sushi menu is excellent (though if you're looking for sushi that is usually MP on most menus, this isn't the place to order it.) I ordered avocado and salmon roll with brown rice, which was listed as gluten free. I also got the seafood salad and specified "no tempura bits". I made a coconut aminos, coconut vinegar and umeboshi plum sauce for the wasabi as I prefer to eat soy-free. The sushi was good. The salad was beautiful and plentiful but the fish on top was dry, though fresh. It was great to have avocado and thinly sliced cucumber in it. The ginger offering was too small. What a steal! My buddy ordered Salmon sashimi (5), mixed sushi (5) and 6 piece California rolls, with miso soup and salad - all for $14.50! We ate family style and could barely finish everything...to top it off free green tea! The sashimi was ok, but the sushi was excellent and maki was phenomenal! This has to be in my top three of sushi places in the city. They have so many yummy rolls to choose from it's always difficult to pick. I always try to go with at least one other person if not more so that we can get many things and share them. Even the soup that you get at the beginning is really yummy and has almost a sesame flavour to it with little crispy tempura bits in it and then tender noodles. My favourite rolls are the Toronto roll which has salmon and tuna and avocado in it and the Rocky Mountain role which has spicy salmon on the inside then salmon on the outside with a slice of jalapeño on each piece and a coconut yoghurt drizzle which sounds kind of strange but is hella delicious and then coconut flakes. It's the perfect mix of sweet and salty with the spiciness of the inside and the crispiness of the tempura bits in the chewiness of the coconut. Highly suggest! read more

We were nearby coming from the Great Hall, so this place was just a few blocks east. Decor/Ambience: 4/5 Simple, slightly rustic. Open kitchen at the back where the sushi chef make all of the items in front of you. Food quality: 4.5/5 First time ordering a sushi dragon boat myself with friends! The mix sushi and sashimi combo was simply divine! Perfect choice to share when splitting among guests! Everything tasted so pure and fresh that a grilled squid, a salmon with avocado roll and a tuna roll were all that were needed to fully satisfy the three of our stomachs. Service: 4/5 Food came out rather fast, especially the dragon boat surprisingly. Friendly staff let us sit in and served us water all the way to closing time around 10pm. I have been to this restaurant a few times and I REALLY enjoy their menu every time! I tried Bulgogi Udon,Spicy Salmon Roll, To-ne's Sushi Boat, Beef Tataki, and Veggie Spicy Roll. My favourite item is the Veggie Spicy Roll which isn't greasy at all compare to other restaurants. I love that they don't put too much rice in their rolls and instead put in other ingredients. On a Friday night, we were lucky to get a spot just after 7 p.m. despite the restaurant being nearly full already. I already knew I wanted to order sushi so I got the Roll Set 5 Spicy combo. K ordered the Roll Set 2 (14 pcs) with Tempura. Our eyes were bigger than our stomachs and because we were hungry, we also ordered the Chicken Katsu and Edamame for starters too. We were first given a bowl of miso soup and "Noodle Crunch Soup" each to start. Ken was impressed that we had the later bowl of soup too and how big the first bowl was. I liked the Noodle Crunch Soup just as much as I did the first time around. The "Chicken Katsu" was thin strips of chicken fried. It was just okay to me; I liked the plum sauce that came with it though. The Edamame was average. Since the server knew we were sharing our food, both of our roll sets got combined onto one plate. I love the presentation of food here! Also, their service was really good; the female server was so friendly and smiley. The plate of our sushi rolls looked so good. Just as they did two years ago, they still serve their sushi platters with a sake cup of fake flowers. Mmm, the sushi was good. I was reminded on this visit of how good the ratio of rice to fish is. There was barely any rice seen in the rolls! This was really nice. I enjoyed satisfying my craving of sushi rolls. I ended up really enjoying the California roll in K's roll set more than the ones I had since the California roll tasted cleaner. By that, I mean that it was more simple flavours and doesn't have too much overflavouring. The Spider Roll was surprisingly just okay to me; it was a little hard. The shrimp tempura and vegetable tempura were good. I really like broccoli tempura. We finished the meal again with some sliced oranges in Japanese style! Of course we checked the reviews before coming. It was our first time. We ordered the deluxe sashimi, uni sushi, and salmon roe suhsi. The sashimis were fresh and I guess the price is reasonable in the area. I loved the salad dressing. It had a little bit of citrus flavour which I found it very refreshing. Services were just okay. They didnt come to refill the water and we had to flag them down twice to order the food. A decent alternative to the more frequented sushi lunch locations around the cool loft offices and bustling shops of Queen (barely) West. I really enjoyed my lunch special, which comes with a salad with ginger dressing, miso soup and a bonus noodle soup in a tiny bowl. Their salmon sashimi lunch comes with more salmon than you can shake a stick at, and is definitely a stellar option for salmon fans. PEPPER'S PISSED about radiation. Some are good, others just ok, and then there are those little hidden gems that just blow your mind away and make you go "Yum!". To-ne Sushi, gets to be one of those places that I crave when I am in the mood for Japanese, and especially sushi. I fell in like with To-ne when I started working in the Fashion district, otherwise known as the Spadina/Queen/King west area in downtown Toronto. The owners not only lured me in with their welcoming smiles, friendly service and fantastic complementary miso soup (which by the way has tempura bits), but also with their fresh and yummy concoction of sushi platters. My favourite yet - the Green Eyes Roll. The Green Eyes roll is like an inverted version of a Green Dragon roll. You have your buttery avocado in the centre, wrapped in seaweed, rice and sesame seeds, then topped with a slightly cooked layer of salmon and deep-fried on the outside with tempura batter. I mean, it can not get better than this. Aside from the eyes roll creation, which tastes fantastic. To-ne also knocks it out of the park with their plating style. Flowers, saucy shapes and large plates are all representative of what To-ne is all about. When I order all 3 of the rolls, oh yes! I can devour all these in one seating. I get the almost "inverted" version of the Green Eyes roll, the Green Dragon roll, which is my second favourite, and an order of the Spicy Salmon roll. The Green Dragon roll has tempura battered shrimp wrapped in rice, sesame seeds and then topped with avocado. Like I said, the inverse. The Spicy Salmon roll is just a delicious mixture of salmon sashimi (i.e. raw salmon) mixed in with some saucy spices, then wrapped in seaweed and rice. Fresh, tasty and with a nice kick to it. I came here during a lunch break with some coworkers and they assured me this was the best Japanese restaurant in the area given the alternatives like Aji Sai across the street. The sushi did not hold together well and the fish did not taste too fresh. I'm no sushi snob, but I've definitely had better. To-ne sushi has become my go-to sushi spot in the Queen St West area. Even though there is plenty of seating, this place gets packed during the lunch time rush, so plan to get here early. The wait staff are always busy so it's hard to get their attention at times. For lunch, I usually order the chirashi sushi lunch ($11.50), which comes with a side salad, miso soup, and this other soup that comes with what I believe is ramen. The side dishes are really good, and I especially love the small ramen soup. The sashimi here is fresh, and there is a little more fish included in the chirashi compared to other places. For other dishes on the lunch menu, a small pot of flowers comes with the food. A nice, but unnecessary touch. Tea is complimentary. read more

Living out in beautiful British Columbia, where seafood is fresh and good sushi is easy to find, I rarely opt for sushi when visiting my hometown of Toronto. My only complaint was the tempura. It was almost over-battered and maybe not quite fried all the way through. I would bite into the crispy end of my shrimp tempura and yet, I could taste and feel the soft, almost soggy, not quite cooked batter. But I wasn't craving tempura, I was craving sushi, and this place managed to sate my sushi craving quite nicely. Great value for what you get! I ordered a chicken katsu don and was pleasantly surprised to find that the dish had a nice variety of shredded vegetables and not just the standard egg, chicken and fish combo like other restaurants. There was also a generous serving of rice and it came with salad and miso soup. My friend wasn't even able to finish her bowl of ramen noodles. Nice presentation of everything too - taking a look around the room the flowers that were placed some of the sushi rolls added a nice touch and the sushi boats looked quite decadent for the price - would love to try that someday! Not bad. I truly want to give 3.5 stars but yelp doesn't let me. We had a great time here and it tasted pretty good. Ordered the sushi boat and a seaweed salad. First, the service was good and friendly although it took some time to get their attention. They apologized by giving us some free soups. The presentation was also pretty good. The good on the other hand was nothing spectacular. It's pretty basic sushi. Come here if you just want to get your sushi fix. It's simple and good.
