At 8:30 a.m. The woman behind the counter suggested two of their breakfast croissants. We asked to have them heated. After a, no kidding, 10 minute wait she let us know that she had broken the oven. So we asked for them cold because we needed to go. They were dreadful. Tossed mine. And in a wonderful display of irony, even their large screen television menu failed while we were in the room. I will say that the coffee was perfectly serviceable. Experiences like this are why people go to chains like Starbucks for coffee and breakfast. I would say I want my tip back, but I suspect she is so frazzled that she earned it and then some. Absolute disaster. I hope our experience was a one off.

The kouign-amann here reminded me of the ones back in San Francisco. Location & setting: Renaissance is tucked into the upscale specialty shops of SouthPark, in a lovely, polished shopping center surrounded by quality retailers like Williams Sonoma and several restaurants. You'll immediately notice the bright yellow awning--it's cheerful and inviting--and inside, the bakery is just as charming. The black-and-white tile floors, small bistro tables, and beautifully arranged pastry case create a classic European feel. It's not a huge space--maybe six or seven tables--but it feels cozy, elegant, and thoughtfully designed. All of the employees were so welcoming! I was greeted by Patti and she made me the best Americano I could have asked for! The vibe was so friendly and I thought it was sweet that some of the customers knew the employees by name! The food was also so incredible!! I got the croissant french toast (as recommended by Patti) and let me tell you, it was the best thing I have eaten in a while! I couldn't recommend coming here enough! Definitely worth the stop if you are in the area!
