I went there with my friends for pride and I didn't know you not suppose to tip your change to the bartenders and one of their bartenders told me that it was very rude of me to give him my change that a good tips is in bills . What can I say about TOAD HALL that hasnt been said yet? Its a fun little place to go when you want to give BADLANDS a little break. Its right across the street so if your not diggin the music at BL for the moment...Just cross the street and you'll def walk into Gaga, Britney, Beyonce, Whitney and without a doubt you'll be dancing, that night you won't be taking no calls cause you'll be dancing! Its only good on the weekends though since its practically DEAD on the weekdays. There's literally like maybe 7-8 people here at most during weekdays. The drinks are good and fair, oddly enough EVERYTIME i go here with my BFF we always end up getting THE SAME bartender! so odd. I do have a little gripe about the bar service though... ONE NIGHT we went here and Ive maybe had one too many patron shots and I requested 2 glasses of water at the bar... they gave me 2 BUT the bartender used the same glass that has been sitting, used, on top of the bar, and filled it up with water then handed it to me. I was fucked up BUT I wasn't that FUCKED UP. I obviously did NOT drink it but...Dang! Nasty. After that I def wo'nt be ordering no damn glasses of water, or any other type of drink, up in this place. I've been to the bar before last night but, when I tell you what I witnessed; you wouldn't believe it! 1st situation: a guy bumped an employee out in the back patio drunken and rather carelessly. I walked out and witnessed the employee very angry and yelling at the patrons.. He literally wanted to fight. I wouldn't have known he was even an employee had he not been in work attire. The customer's friends were trying to calm him down and he was just yelling at them. I wanted to locate his manger. If you don't have the patience to deal with people and liquor AND crowds then why even apply for the job. 2nd situation: after witnessing the craziness outside, I figured I'd give the bar another shot before simply leaving. I walk up to the bar and these two women are ordering from a bartender. I'm not sure what was the issue between them and the bartender but to walk up and witness the bartender pour a full drink out and tell the customer "there's your drink B!*CH" I was in shock. The girls asked me if I witnessed it and they even snapped a pic of him. I couldn't respond; I just left and ordered at the other side of the bar. Dark Latino bartender with the black curly pony tail purposefully ignored me and my friend when we tried to order drinks at the bar. It was not like the bar was slammed either... This place is pretty cool. I think it's from the same owner as Badlands. I give it an extra star because it has one of the best outdoor patios in The Castro. If you're not a smoker, don't spend too much time out here as it can get pretty smokey even though it is outdoors and all. I've never had a problem with the staff here at all. The barbacks continuously circle the venue to grab empty glasses from the wells and tables so that they don't accumulate through the night and they usually do it with a smile on their face, The clientle tends to be a little on the older side...like 30 and over older. Crazy DJ alert! Story below! I guess you have to take the bad with the good... I like this bar...good ambiance, fun people, friendly bartenders, and I love the pop music. I love the unisex bathrooms. And it is definitely Badlands-lite. Same concept without a big dance space. The one thing I feel obligated to report, however, is that the resident DJ there seems more concerned with seasonal decorations than the bar's patrons....and is possibly a little crazy. My friend and I went there one night not too long after New Year's Eve, and they still had balloon decorations up. You know, those long ones that people twist into animals. So I reached up and twisted one for a bit. Didn't harm it at all. But so someone (old) taps me and is like, "If you don't stop doing that you'll have to leave." And I thought he was a random (old) schmoe making a joke and trying to hit on me , so I just laughed and was all "good one!" and just kept twiddling. At which point his (old) eyes got all crazy, he lost touch with reality and SHOVED me! And screamed, "That's it! You're out!" But then he just hi-tailed it back to the DJ booth, leaving me and my friend stunned. What gives, buddy? Cracked out? Had a bad day? Obsessed with the safety of your balloons that have been up for over a week? Regardless of the fact that, okay, I admit that I probably shouldn't have been messing with the decorations, I have difficulty thinking of circumstances in which it's okay to SHOVE customers. The way I see it is TH is Badland's less slutty younger sister. Badland's has her patio in the open cause she's a whore and lets the boys check each other out and attract them in like bugs to streetlights. TH's windows are tinted black so you can't see inside her cooch without getting up close to the window, and her patio is in the back where you can't see people walking by but there's actually more room for boys to mingle. Badland's lets her boys pee in the open urinals without doors next to the dance floor but TH is more conservative and offers stalls in closed doors. The bartenders are the same since they work both girls, though Badlands definitely attracts the sluttier, hotter boys cause TH is still figuring out how to reel in the skanks. read more

Really enjoy this place, mostly because they never get that crowded. I mean, theres usually a lot of people but the place is pretty roomy and has a very nice back patio. You rarely find yourself swimming through a crowd of people just to get to the rest room. They also have a great happy hour and even after happy hour drinks are decently priced. (one star for potential) If capacity is 121 people inside (according to the doorman and the sign posted by the door), why create a "dance floor" that essentially forces your patrons to hug the wells? And I'm not sure about that hole in the wall that spews out "smoke" for ambiance. Seems a bit on the musty side to me. I wish they would re-do the layout and make it more of a lounge. This one and the brother bar across the street Badlands, are my go to bars in the Castro. A friend and i usually hit happy hour and at 2-4-1 drinks you can't beat it. Anyone else in The Castro tries, but they don't come close. The bartenders are awesome and they usually know what all the regulars drink. Drinks are strong and the ambiance is good. I still don't get why we have to pay a cover price during special events and the city should really do something about that. No bar provides anything besides the music and lights and drinks, so there is no special guest or any artist, but they charge cover on weekends. That really sucks and should be stopped. Other than that, I love drinking there, i love most of the bartenders and the place is usually clean. To the bartender in the middle at the bar last night: Confused about why your section was consistently empty most of the entire night? Perhaps stop rudely swatting away every patron that stands within 3 ft of your section of the bar. We know you want money. But realize that we also do remember you when we want to go back for our second (or third (or fourth (or fifth))) drink. I went to the other two bartenders for the rest of the night (even though it meant waiting in line) because there was no way in hell I was going to give you my money. This place has a great happy hour. Where else can you get 2 long island ice teas for 6 bucks. Sure these aren't the perfect LIIT's poured and mixed in SF, but you get what you pay for. And when the drinks are a' pourin' the crowd seems to get a bit more entertainin'. It's really funny what you can see at 3 PM in the afternoon: * A drunk guy flirting with every guy in the club, obviously way above his tolerance level, touching anyone he sees in plain site, ultimately getting escorted out of Toad Hall resulting in his next happy hour endeavor across the street at Badlands (owned by the same owner of Toad Hall) * Drunk guys making out with other drunk guys. * Birthday parties galore, starting the night early with a pre-drink, hoping that they make it through dinner (or in some cases through happy hour). So if you're looking for a good time with cheap drinks, give Toad Hall a try. It also has a fun and hip interior with cascading water feature in the back of the front bar (very posh like). It's also fun to seat by the bar window--you'll get a good laugh at the people walking by...it is the Castro after all and anything goes in the Castro (especially during happy hour). read more

There's lots of bars in the Castro, but I like Toad Hall because I like to think that if the Mix (which is a fun, neighborhood bar) and Badlands (which can be fun but it usually overrun with B&T) had a baby, they would call it Toad Hall. It's like any bar I suppose, but it has a pretty decent vibe. I enjoy it for the smoking patio in the back (since I hate to have to go outside on the street to have a cigarette). Usually have pretty decent drink specials, and I enjoy the nights when they have TV playing and everyone gets into the show. Music is pretty decent (standard dance and top 40 stuff). It can get a little busy/packed, which is kinda annoying at times. But it's a fun place to enjoy a simple night out with friends to have fun. Why the "so-so" review. The patio for smoking plays videos, but sadly there is no music outside. Probably due to the fact that there are people living directly above. The patio is ok. So you have to find the server you like and stick with that person. They are owners of Badlands across the street and it appears they put more emphasis on it than Toad Hall. I'm surprised i never really Yelped about Toad Hall. Better late than never, i guess. Long review short... Toad Hall is Badlands without the dancing. I mean, really. It is. In fact, im under the impression that the owners of Badlands (SF and Sac) also own Toad Hall, which would explain a lot. Regardless of who owns Toad Hall, its actually a nice place to get drinks. Good bar space and plenty of seating inside and a nice heated patio in the back with its own bar. The heated element is very nice because it really does make the patio comfortable during colder nights, which are often in SF. Prices are good and the music is good too. More mix of hip hop and dance music compared to Badlands. Which makes sense to me because i feel Toad Hall is more of a bar than a club, meaning its a place to grab drinks and hang out and listen to music vs. go and dance. My only critique is one for the majority of Castro: When will Castro embrace the beauty of plastic. Credit cards are amazing and convenient for everyone involved. read more

My friend and I went in and here and they had a sign up that said free girls and beer HAHA funny. So went inside and they had leaning tower of jello shots. 10 for 3 bucks! well i had that and my friend got the free bottomless beer. I have to say the shots were enough for me. I'm not sure how Toad Hall got it's name but it's up-n-coming in the Castro nightlife scene. This bar is pretty open and always plays decent music. the bartenders from Badlands frequent this spot as they are both owned by one person. If you smoke or don't mind the smell you can check out the back covered patio area with a bar so that you're not dealing with the overcrowded entryway. The stage on the dance floor is only for the brave and/or drunk but it makes it a little easier for everyone else in the bar to watch and laugh as people bump and grind. The music videos are great so check out lady Gaga whenever her videos play or Lady Tatas on her premiers. read more
