Can we all agree Bedford is sorely lacking in good dive bars? Good. Now that we're all on the same page, let's talk about Toadies. As a day drinker and a fan of happy hours, I'll say that I really appreciated the $2 Tuesdays which meant $2 for delicious, iron rich Guinness. I don't know of anywhere else in the DFW offering $2 EVERYTHING, so that in and of itself is notable. I always ended up with the same bartender, who did the "sweetheart" gig without ever learning my name. That's okay, I'm a lady and I'll take a sweetheart where I can get it. The bar itself isn't that bad - lots of wood, the primary light source is sunlight, and usually the TVs are at a level that doesn't interrupt my reading (if you're a person who reads at bars, this review is for you). Main complaint - other patrons. Listening to a man gay bash for 15 minutes straight before feeling obligated to call him out is annoying. Having his douchey middle-aged friends hit on me after said calling out is just gross. Respectable dive bars have patrons who understand that a person drinking at 3 in the afternoon is not interested in being picked up. Judging by the pictures on the wall and the insane breastiness of the website, this bar has a completely different vibe at night that some of the daytime patrons are trying to get an early start on. If I have had a really, really blown out, shitty day and I needed a drink fast and for some reason, could not go to my local Texaco and grab a forty of something, I would come here. In other words, it is my first choice of last resorts. The drinks are well priced. The tables are not quite that sticky, but the whole place just reeks of post-fraternity douchebaggery. I don't really care for sports either. The bathrooms - and the whole lounge area by them - are constantly reeking of pee and poo. Sewage problems? When I come here with dudes, the guys are always served first and I swear they hardly look at me. No wonder - all the servers are hot pantsed waitrons. It's not like that at Hooter's. I get that this is how you make your money - by wearing tight clothes - but do you have to be so obvious? I like the smoking inside. The junk bucket fries are good. Everyone has what I call his or her "Home Bar". Someplace you can chill after a long week at work, catch the game on the bigscreen, grab some food, swap war stories, etc... A place where everyone knows your name. My favorite drink is waiting for me at my favorite spot seconds before I sit down. Toadies is my "Cheers" for many reasons not the least of which is the great staff who make you feel right at home. So I'm sitting in Duke's in Bedford a couple of years ago at the bar having a conversation with some guy I just met and in the course of discussing the bar staff there I remark "you know, if I could just find a beautiful Asian bartender that was fun to talk to my life would be complete." The guy then says "you need to see Whitney across the highway at Toadies. You won't be disappointed." A few months later I stroll into Toadies, plop myself at the bar and within seconds this beautiful young Asian bartender introduces herself as Whitney. I tell her the story about Duke's a couple of months back and she laughs. I told her what I drank and never had to mention that ever again. I was surprised to learn that Whitney not only bartends but runs/manages the place on a daily basis. She's quite the dynamo. Funny, smart, hard working, gorgeous with an incredible memory for names and she runs a tight ship. She handles every situation with intelligence charm and grace. Toadies is not huge but big enough. 10-12 booths and 15-20 tables I guess. The bar seats around 25 customers with a very large big screen over bar which can be seen anywhere in the place. Numerous other TVs throughout with small TVs in all the booths so you can watch whatever you want. There's also a lounge area with leather seating near the side entrance that's nice to hang out in. There's also tables outside with TVs. Place rocks for all the UFC fights & no cover. Whitney is impressive but the rest of the staff is awesome too. Servers are all very attractive. Uniforms are school girl theme. Not too in your face like the "breastaraunts (Hooters, Twin Peaks). They always make time to stop and chat you up with a smile or a funny story. Amber is the cutest ever. Don't be surprised if she busts a move or two if a good song comes on. They have a great electronic jukebox with a vast library of music. You can pay an extra credit to have your song played next which I often do if I'm feeling beat down by the music that someone else has played. Cay is an absolute doll and always has a great story for me or asks me for my opinion about something. Lennon (yeah, like the Beatle) has sweetest personality ever. Pretty girl. Paige is the free spirit and the most mischievous of the lot. She would have been quite the stunning hippie chick back in the day. Great personality. Nastassia has this exotic lithe model look thing going on and is also very artistic. I like watching her draw things and letter the daily specials on the Toadies blackboard thing. She's really very good. Other bartenders are most excellent dudes one and all. Brad is cool. Probably the most laid back of the bunch. I think the ladies dig him. Just a theory I have mind you Jesse works a lot of day shifts so I don't see him as much as most of the other guys. Jesse loves him some Texas Rangers. Very together dude that Jesse. Jimmie is the MAN! Great personality and always has a hot sports opinion, political opinion, relationship opinion...you name it. Great guy to chew the fat with about the issues of the day. Funny guy and very passionate about what he believes in. Drew the barback stands behind the bar taking it all in. Whitney and her posse of bartenders can make anything you can dream up. Lots of exotic shots made at this place. Domestic draft beer is $2 every day I'm pretty sure. Almost half what a beer sets you back at Hooters. Tuesday is $2 UCall It all night long (though I usually just stick to my beer so I can hang longer). $2 UCall It on Friday's but just until 8pm I think. Tequila, Sex with a Toad (can't remember what's in that...Yaeger and something green I think) and Lemon Drop shot specials every day for $3.25. $2.50 wells every day. Okay, lets talk food. Sure it's bar food but it's damn GOOD bar food. They have great cooks there. I order food every time I go. Lately I've been tearing up the boiled crawfish since it's in season. I'm from Louisiana so I love me some crawfish. I adore their Irish Nachos. Sliced potatoes, melted cheese and bacon. Killer stuff. Brisket tacos are the official specialty and they rock. They have these pretty cool things called chicken twists I haven't seen anywhere else that I like too. There's pizza, burgers, and a strip steak that is not on the menu but was told about that I order a lot with baked potato and charro beans. Toadies is co-owned by one of Poppie's comrades and on this visit they were having an annual meeting but was our first time there. The service was very friendly. Reminded me of a knock-off of another well known chain that I won't give credit too based upon shhhhhhhhh, Poppie and I might not get invited back. The wings were meaty and good. Quesadillas were stacked with meat and cheese and were good as well. Nachos weren't hot enough and tasted like it came directly from a can or jar bought. I loved the fact that they carried my knock-off drink (Smironoff Ice Wine Coolers) . Provided excellent service and didn't let the weather be an excuse, they rock and honestly care about their customers so much. Really good food but awful service every time I go in. The last time I went in the waitress looked over at the booth I was in three separate times. I saw her dealing with a table of 7 and decided that even tho I knew I'd be able to juggle both, that maybe she couldn't. After paying them all out she then decided to go bus the table they were sitting at and still hadn't come over to me. She finishes putting away the dishes THEN heads up to the bar where she strikes up a conversation with someone she allegedly knew. Finally, I stood up and walked to the bar and asked if I was sitting in the wrong area. She was nice and apologetic about the situation. I order my drink and she brings it to me, again very friendly. I start drinking my drink which was the first one for me not just at toadies but at all that night. I couldn't taste any alcohol on my vodka soda So I handed it to my friend who agreed there was no vodka in my soda. Needless to say I was very disappointed and aggravated with the professionalism. Terrible service now that Donnie is gone. Waited 10 minutes to be ignored, approached the bar, then continued to be ignored, as waitresses walked by and bartenders made direct eye contact.. I expect a lot more when it comes to dinning out, being in the bar/restaurant industry myself and this place has now lost business due to poor customer service. I am highly disappointed in Toadies and for one reason, and one reason only. My pizza. My friend and I went to Toadies, for the cheap beers $2 on a Friday night, what a terrific deal! We ordered some fried pickles, they were not bad. Not too heavy on the breading and the bartender was good. We sat at the bar, and she was attentive to us. When I placed the order for my pizza, it was a little strange but it cost me $11, my order was to-go, I left it sitting (in the box) for about five minutes once I got home, to use the bathroom. I opened the box, eager to eat my pizza, and to my surprise there were bugs. Little knats and fruit flies, I was pissed. By this time it was already after 2 and I knew I couldn't Toadies to complain. I immediately threw the pizza away, furious, that it had bugs and there was nothing I could do. I called the following afternoon, there was no answer, I figured since it was a holiday weekend, perhaps they were busy. I tried to call again later that day, a female answered and I asked for a manager, she placed me on hold and it was for a good 10 minutes. I hung up and called back, the phone just rang. I called the next day, never got a manager, but left a message with the girl who answered the phone. After a few hours went by, I called again, the same thing and I was just fed up. I understand it was a holiday weekend and yeah, they're probably busy but whoever was answering the phone was either dishonest, not delivering messages to the manager, or even worse, the manager not calling me back. At this point, I just decided I will never return to Toadies. To find fruit flies and knats, in a pizza that was recently made is freaking disgusting. I have never been so grossed out in my life, and I was willing to let it slide for a replacement pizza because the food at the bar was decent. But my god, can't return a call. I even emailed them on the website, no idea if it ever went through. But I am highly disappointed withToadies. read more

I am not sure why my previous post is not here - so here I go again! I love this bar. My husband and I, and a ton of our friends have been coming here for about 7 years. We love the all of the staff! The manager Whitney is amazing. She always comes by to check on us, and see what's new. I have to say, my favorite waitress is Lennon, however, Valerie (I call her Valkyrie - my warrior angel) and Ivy run a very close second! We celebrated my last birthday there, and Lennon even bought me a surprise cake. We always have such a great time here, and bring our friends as much as we can. We will keep coming back. I like this place for the DRINKS. The drinks are cheap and decent for the price. They offer the basic drink options like rum/coke whiskey/coke vodka/cranberry, and they always have a drink special!! I hate going to a place that over charges you for the drinks .. Toadies does not do that. The servers are good and check on you constantly. The food is ok, it is regular bar food nothing too bad but not the best either. The reason for 4 stars is because it is VERY smokey in there. Toadies was always a frequently visited spot for me when I lived in the area. The staff knew my name after a few visits and knew what drink I wanted. Who doesn't love that in a bar? After we finished shows at OnStage, most of the cast would end up here to unwind and have cheap drinks and great bar food. The Irish Nachos are my favorite! This place is great for Happy Hour and specific day specials. I did love coming here on Saturday afternoons for day drinking. It was usually sparsely populated then making it less smoky and as a former smoker I can handle it. On a busy night, the smoking can get a bit overwhelming. The patio area when the weather is nice is always in use. When I'm in town, I will make an appearance for old times sake. Toadies will always be a home away from home for me. read more

This is the spot, what differentiates this spot from the others in Bedford is the service. Once upon a time I was a regular here at this location but it was Lone Star Oyster Bar. The reason I started coming here this time was I got overlooked at big shots and being a career hospitality person I could not take it, so I walked into Toadies. Home again I am. This pub's menu has the usual bar fare but I think it tastes much better than other places. I really like their "junk bucket" fries, with waffle, curly, regular cut and chips all in one order and they don't come out greasy. I couldn't give them 5 stars because I don't smoke and it can get pretty smoky here sometimes. Otherwise, cheap drinks and great food keep me coming back. read more

I have been a local for a while. I know what drinks normally cost. Well today Mike decided that a normal drink that they used to charge for $6 is now $9.75. Now as a regular I would expect a heads up... but no.. Mike likes to bully.. I too am a bully.. I'm a consumer. Take advice from me. This place is now to be avoided. Swung by this place with some friends for the second time to watch a UFC fight and had a good time. I would definitely classify Toadies as more of a local style bar, the crowd is young with an alternative vibe and overall chill demeanor. The drinks were well priced and the specials were a bargain. The waitress was very knowlegdeable about the many selections available on tap and made an effort to create certain shots we are used to from back home, however some of the drink sizes were inconsistent. As far as entertainment goes this a great place if you want to catch a moderately watched live sporting event. There are TVs everywhere and no matter where you sit you will have a good view and there's a super large tv at the bar, which stretch down most of the restaurant. As a plus sometimes the waitresses will take their shirts off if they get "hot" so its a great place to take the guys and watch UFC, but don't go for a Cowboys game bc it will be way too crowded with standing room only. They offer american pub fare at decent prices, with decent prices you will get decent food. We ordered the barracho pork taco plate with rice and beans along with the pretzel basket. The pretzels were great!! Warm and buttery with a side of queso and mustard, although I would've appreciated more of a specialty mustard rather than just the standard yellow mustard that I have at home. The taco plate was sub par though, the pork was way too salty, the beans watery and the rice was flavorful but dry as a desert. There were four of us that ordered food and each plate came out at a separate time, additionally the waitress forgot my gauc, and while i gave her ample time to correct it, you could tell it did slip her mind by minute 10 so i asked. She was very kind and apologized and brought it out right away. All in all its a typical local bar, young crowd with plenty of tvs and the occasional special "view". We had a great time at Toadies! The staff was very accommodating and friendly. We had a pretty large group and they were able to easily handle the size of the group and our quirky orders. Personally I thought the wings were outstanding. They were the best I've had outside of New York state and that is saying a lot. I also had the brisket plate and it was delicious!
