Rush Hour (top); Ashby's Bear Claw (bottom)

A quaint ice cream shop off the side of the road with outdoor seating. The lovely lady at the counter is be try friendly and welcoming too. There are so many flavors of soft serve, hard ice cream, sundaes, and shakes that there is definitely one for everyone. I tried their hard ice cream: Nana's Banana Cream Pie, Rush Hour, and Ashby's Bear Claw. The Banana Cream Pie was very artificially flavored banana. I was hoping for a more subtle banana flavor with custard and vanilla crackers vibe, but it was still very creamy. Rush Hour consisted of coffee ice cream with caramel swirl and chocolate coffee truffles. It was heavily coffee-flavored with perfect balance of sweetness with the caramel swirl, and truffle pieces added good texture. Ashby's Bear Claw included dark chocolate ice cream with caramel swirl and chocolate-covered cashews. The dark chocolate ice cream was definitely the star of the show and even a bit overpowering in which the caramel swirl got lost. The portion I had didn't get any cashews, but I'm sure it would've added another dimension to the overall ice cream. Overall, this is a staple ice cream place and would come again to try their soft serve next time. I highly recommend trying it out!

    Lots of soft serve options.

Always a favorite. Heft portions and friendly people, plus lots of toad character. my favorite is white lightning. Dark chocolate ice cream with white chocolate/mint swirl.

An Oasis is an understatement. This roadside stand is amazing and what variety. We can't get over how many soft serve options are available. The boyfriend got a malted soft serve on an old fashioned cake cone. He just loves those cake comes. I had a scoop of chocolate which was their vegan option for the day. It was cold, creamy and delicious. So glad we stopped by. I recommend that you do too, Highly recommend

Amazing selection of ice cream- other soft serve and hard packed with unique flavors. My husband had the cannoli which tasted "just like a cannoli" & the coffee. You get two scoops with a kiddie cone so you can try two flavors! I had the banana cream pie with the peanut butter pie. PB was delish! Chunks of PB in PB ice cream. Very friendly staff & quick service. Great little roadside stop!

    Delicious ice cream.

The Ithaca area is blessed with many great ice cream joints, but Toad's is a family favorite in part due to their old-time ice cream stand feel and the generous portions. They have an amazing diversity of flavors for both soft serve and Gifford's traditional scoop ice cream that is sure to please. I opted for the latter, and got Maine Camp Coffee and Wicked Good Chocolate scoops. The friends I went with had P&B S'mores & Cannoli, Piece of Cake and Sponge Candy, Fireball, and Moose Tracks and Banana Cream Pie. Be careful with what size you get. The "small" is actually four scoops of ice cream -- so be prepared! "Kiddie" is the unlisted 'normal' two scoops of ice cream, and 'tiny' is one small scoop of ice cream. I've never gone beyond small, but they can get quite huge. Toad's Too is also closed when the weather gets colder, so enjoy it as a nice summer treat.

Small town ice cream stand. Very reasonable prices, and friendly service. Parking sometimes tight, but it passes the parking lot test!

Love their twist ice cream, very basic and similar to other places. The lady who owns it is always nice and welcoming.

After not being there for a while, this was legitimately my first stop on campus when visiting. Went straight from the airport and got some scoops. Even on days when the temperature dipped below zero, I found myself wanting ice cream from Dairy Bar when I was a student. Years later, I'm happy to say that the flavors were still as good as I hoped. There are times when nostalgia can carry or elevate a memory of something, and luckily, nostalgia aside, I very much enjoyed my ice cream here. Pro tip for those who might not know: they serve limited flavors of the same Cornell-made ice cream in dining halls. They also serve it during the buffets at Statler Hotel. I love the different flavors, and would eat it at any time of day.

They have really unique ice cream flavors which they sell at their Dairy Bar on campus and distribute to local retailers. The Dairy Bar is a small cafe housed in Stocking Hall, home to Cornell's dairy program. The cafe has mostly to-go items like wrapped sandwiches and pre made bowls and snacks. They also have a grill with a small selection of fresh menu items. And they have an ice cream bar of course with the same flavors as their refrigerated pints. The staff here was friendly. It gets a little crowded around lunch time so plan ahead.

Great spot for soft serve, just a short drive away from Cornell!…read more I tried the red velvet soft serve and really enjoyed it. It didn't taste like red velvet cake at all... it just kind of tasted like vanilla, with a hint of chocolate maybe? Nonetheless, the color is fun and I liked it. A very cute spot for icecream. Quite a few picnic tables to sit at although only one is shaded so it can get pretty hot. There is also a drive through which is nice! Lots of flavor options! Overall, I would recommend!

And no, we didn't see any cows either. Strike one. The second time was more eventful. I went with a different group of friends, and this time we did get ice cream and see the cows. (Let me be clear: the cows are not part of the official Frosty Cow experience, but somehow, they're always part of the story.) They're just... there. Big, red-eyed, slightly intimidating cows, chilling nearby like unofficial mascots. We got lowkey scared at first, but of course, that didn't stop us from taking a ridiculous amount of photos. It's unpredictable, though; Another time we drove past, and the cows were nowhere to be found. So if you're planning your visit around cow sightings, maybe call ahead and ask, "Are the cows out tonight?" Totally normal question. As for the ice cream, it's definitely worth the hype. We got the Fruity Pebbles flavor, which was creamy and nostalgic in the best way. My girlfriend found it a little too milky for her taste, but I loved how rich and dairy-forward it was. The cereal bits gave that perfect crunchy finish. All in all, whether you're in it for the ice cream or just hoping for cows, Frosty Cow is a fun little stop worth checking out.

I got the chocolate soft serve with rainbow sprinkles and it was the perfect sweet treat. If you only want a little something, you can get a kids size like I did, but they also have small, medium, and large sizes too. One thing to know is that it is cash only. If you do not have cash, they may offer an IOU like they did for us. There is an ATM next door, but I had issues with it not accepting my card, and my friends had the same problem, so I ended up paying in quarters. They were very kind and patient about it though. The line can get pretty long, but it moves quickly, so it is not a bad wait at all. I am partial to soft serve but have tried both their hard icecream and soft serve. I prefer their soft serve but wish they had more flavors. I tried the classic chocolate twist and the two berry twist soft serves. In the two berry twist, I didn't like the pink flavor- it was too icy and more like a sorbet/dole whip than true soft serve. I liked the purple flavor thought! Overall, I still frequent Sweet Melissa's for softserve close to Cornell! Would recommend!
