Wife and I sat down for a Sunday evening quiet dinner and were brought our waters by the hostess and told our server would be right with us. 10 minutes went by and a family of four sat down at the table beside us. There were 2 servers in our area that walked by us 6 times each without any offer of service or a courtesy message that they would be right back. The server at the family's table beside us quickly got there drinks and came back and took there order. 15 minutes setting at the table without service in a restaurant that was not busy at all is unacceptable. When we got up to leave the hostess tried to talk us into staying and then the manager noticed what was going on. We wanted nothing to do with this restaurant at that point. Do not waste your time. I seriously love this place. This was my go-to study spot when I was in college. Good mochas and plenty of snack-y type foods (pastries, parfaits, chips and UNL Dairy Store ice cream) for an intense study session. Not only is Toast great for coffee, I love going in the evenings to either hanging out at the bar or order an iced tea in a mason jar (everything is better in a mason jar) and hang out outside. They also have some delicious lunch and dinner options. The Grown-up Grilled Cheese and a side of soup is my favorite. I'm also a big fan of Tuesdays at Toast because it is both Noodle Night and Import Beer Night. You can't beat that. Plus Wine and Wing Wednesdays. I'm not a huge fan of wings, but for those who are, it's hard to go wrong. read more

Great service! I had a Caesar salad, garlic green beans, and the seasonal vegetables which were caulilini and kale. The green beans and caulilini were sooooooooo good! Perfectly cooked and well seasoned. My co-worker had the southwest chicken salad with grilled chicken (love when they offer substitutes like this!) and he loved it. Great take out place (and dine in place, from the looks of walking in, i might add). We were staying at a local hotel and looking for some non "fast food" fast food. Toast came through so incredibly well. We recommend the reuben and a grilled cheese and soup combo. Both were hearty, filling and tasty. All of this came complete with very friendly and smiling waitstaff. I gave them 4 stars because they forgot the tomatoes on my wife's grilled cheese, even after asking directly if I wanted them on the sandwich. Could be just an oversight. This place is really a hidden gem. I came for breakfast, so I haven't had the evening fare yet, but the brunch menu was excellent (I can wholeheartedly recommend the Denver strada). Each generous portion was priced at 3.95 and a tall mug of Mill coffee was only 1.00! Unbeatable in my opinion at that price. The fall brook neighborhood itself is a beautiful development, and one of the most unique in Lincoln. Toast resides in the "town square" which serves as the common gathering place for the surrounding area. Really unique and cool. I will definitely be returning for a beer and sandwich soon. I love going here on Sunday's for brunch. It is a seat yourself venue during brunch with great service and delicious food. It is a nice family restaurant. My only disappoint was that they didn't serve mimosas, but you can't have it all I suppose! The tables are spread out nicely and the have a great music playlist. Toast is a terrific little bistro that's rather out of the way if you don't live in the Fallbrook area, but definitely worth a stop if you happen to be out that way. We've eaten there twice. It's a pleasant atmosphere, albeit a bit loud at times. The first time we went, my husband got the pastrami signature sandwich and I tried the Reuben. Both were loaded up with high-quality meat on fresh bread. On our second visit, my husband opted for a cheeseburger, while I tried the Italian beef and our son, now venturing off the kids' menu to satiate his middle-school-sized appetite, sampled the School House club. All of our sandwiches were expertly prepared, again showcasing the excellent meat. I told my husband that Toast's Italian Beef sandwich eclipsed Lazlo's French Dip, and he didn't believe me...until he took a bite. Succulent slices of beef nestled in a freshly toasted hoagie, topped with Toast's Mediterranean Vegetables (a signature side dish of marinated peppers, olives, etc.) and topped with melting provolone, with a tasty au jus on the side. Kids portions are ample -- my girls had trouble finishing theirs -- and came with a free drink. The only thing holding me back from 5 stars was service, which is on the slow side and has twice included missing or incorrect sides, and the inconvenient location. I was staying in a nearby motel and come here to grab some take out food for dinner. I decided to go all out and get the grilled salmon with rice and vegetables. The food was very good overall, but they forgot to give me silverware (and I forgot to check before leaving), which left me in an awkward situation once I got back to the motel. Went here yesterday and ordered the regular toast burger with a substitute of chicken breast and a side of fries. The sandwich was great, and all of the flavors I expected were there. Toast has a great location in Fallbrook and the place is really nicely done inside. Also always has a pretty good vibe since it's always very busy. However, being busy is an issue for them as they don't seem to really have a good system for waiting on the tables. Every time we have at least 3 different people interacting with us, and not in a Lazlos way where someone else is just delivering the food. It's like they have floaters going around to help out the main waiter for the table who is too busy to handle all the tables they are assigned. Doesn't work very well and the service is always a bit slow. Other than that, they've got lots of interesting items on the menu and the food is always very good! Short Version- AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! Long Version - NEVER, EVER, have I in my 10+ years of eating out all over the country and the world, have I experienced a place as TERRIBLE as Toast. If it were possible to give this place NEGATIVE stars, I would!!! (you'll also notice on my profile I don't give many bad reviews) The *ONLY* reason they exist is because the area is newer, with very limited options. They've got a monopoly and boy are they A&&holes about it! Through this whole ordeal, I am still smiling and remaining calm and professional. The following takes place within ONE MINUTE: 1) I walk in with a half dozen cupcakes in a container for my hubbys birthday wearing a sequined hat (it was st. pattys) 2) Someone glares at me (later I find out this is the owner) 3) Girl 1 behind counter asks to help, I tell her its a surprise, she offers to help 4) Within 10 seconds Girl 2 comes to me and tells me that the owner asked her to tell me to leave with my cupcakes 5) I apologize to Girl 2, explain that its hubbys birthday, ask if I can just take one cupcake with candle, even promise not to eat 6) She rudely states NO - No one apologizes. Its clear they want me to leave. 7) I ask Girl 1 if they have cupcakes I could buy - girl says yes. Looks mortified but can't say anything as its coming from owner 8) While Girl 1 is getting a cupcake, Girl 3 comes over to tell me to leave with my cupcakes or leave my cupcakes in the car 9) I tell her yes, I'm putting the cupcakes away in my car, just let me grab a candle from the container 10) Owner glares, walks over and RUDELY tells me I need to leave. 11) I manage to get a candle out and hand to Girl 1, with everyone glaring at me and continuing to tell me i need to leave. Mind you Yelpers and readers, while I was out putting the cupcakes away in my car, they already brought out the cupcake to my hubby. They didn't think they should wait until I returned to see him be surprised!! Common Sense Much??! I'm not an emotional person. It's a business and I definitely understand that they have policy against outside food. Most restaurants do make exceptions for occasions like birthdays. But Toast is not your regular business. I had no idea they served cupcakes having just moved to the area. (which btw, were stale and not good, but did look pretty). It's ridiculous that they treated me like a criminal over a few little cupcakes. Who were they really hurting?? I'm a newlywed and this was the first time we got to celebrate my DH's birthday together. It was extremely hurtful and COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL. Seriously, owner of toast, How hard is it to apologize???! A simple, "I'm really sorry but you can't bring that in, would you like to get one of ours?" would have done. They did not even bother to ask if I wanted to eat or drink anything!! - as if they had a vendetta against me. Mind you, I was upset but remained professional, composed and quiet because my mama taught me better! Pretty sure any other place would have AT LEAST comped me a drink and apologized - instead I was simply ignored! We were a group of 8+ with multiple rounds and food going on, so our collective business was likely somewhere around $500+. As a business major, I can't understand an owner who would cause so much heartache and create drama over a $3.25 stale cupcake!!! Is this how she thinks she needs to go after sales? Yelpers, I am shocked beyond belief! Their food from what I hear from 5+ people who frequent this place is that it is bland and takes a while to come but is edible and since there's no other place in the area, they go back. TBQH, their bartender are flat-chested girls who lack personality and make bad jokes with old men hoping for a few dollars. ( I observed this bit but was so dumbfounded by everything else- was just amused on the inside) I can't wait to see how long they last with their backwards business policy and terrible service. Came here for a work lunch meeting, the atmosphere is casual and the staff is friendly but the owner was very rude and nasty to my wife, she lacked customer service and people skills. My wife was trying to surprise me and my co-workers with cup cakes for my birthday, from the second she walked in members of the staff began scolding her. Turns out the owner was hiding behind her staff and almost ordering them to force her out, the owner later walked up to her and rudely told her to leave and put her cakes back in the car. Its fine that outside food is not permitted but there is a way to professionally convey that message. My wife asked her if there were extra cakes that she would be able to purchase, the owner was less than helpful and was more concerned about the "contraband" brought into her restaurant. This place is also way over priced for the quality of food and desserts. In fact its almost a rip off. I have eaten way better for far cheaper. I'm from the south and just moved to the Midwest. Many of the people here are a joy to be around but this bad apple spoiled the bunch, I have been here before but this was the worst experience, my major complaint about yelp is that I have to give this place at least one star. The prices are high, especially for lunch and you certainly don't get what you pay for. I had the French dip and while the flavor was good, there wasn't much meat there and not enough au jus. Toast works in that weird way, you can have one table throwing back beers (ours) and a family with small children enjoying mini corndogs in harmony. The waitstaff is attentive and genuinely seem to love the people who come in, from first timers to regulars from the surrounding neighborhoods. The menu is an amazing hodge podge of traditional and intriguing items. I tried the Bourbonade first. I enjoyed that it wasn't too lemony nor did it have an overwhelming pop taste. Very mellow and the right amounts of everything to wash down any of the delicious bites on the menu. The mellowness did have the effect of making the drink seem watered down, but as my table concluded this could mean one of two things; I'm coming up on a drinking problem, or it's a sneaky drink, one that catches up to you after two and now you're drunk in the bathroom telling girls how much you love their shoes (ok if you're a girl, not so much if you're a guy..in case you were wondering). Next up (and pretty much the most important part of this review) are the wings for Wednesday Wine & Wings Night. 50 cent wings! Will these wings take up the void that is the day after/before BWW's special days. With so many flavor choices (buffalo hot or hotter than hot, honey mustard, espresso bbq, and sweet & spicy Asian chili) you certainly feel like a kid in the candy store, thoroughly satisfied with your OG flavors (like buffalo hot) and fun new kids on the block(honey mustard anyone). My table tried both the Asian chili and the espresso bbq (because we are at a hybrid coffeehouse so yes get everything with espresso in it) both different experiences. I really love Asian chili sauce especially when they get the kick level right (insert martial arts joke here) which Toast has achieved on all counts. I always have a quarrel with the fact that restaurants don't seem to season their chicken wings anymore if there is a sauce slathered on it, but that's never going to change. The wings were hot and fresh and enjoyed by all anyway. The espresso bbq wings were another story. I wasn't quite sure what I was expecting. Certainly not for them to taste like a cup of coffee sauce (which they didn't) but would they be bbq-ey at all? Would I need the accompanying ranch or bleu cheese? The chicken was hot and fresh and quality wings. I couldn't discern a real coffee flavor, just a mild bbq so I felt slightly shafted. I expected these to be in your face (so yeah maybe I lied about the cup of coffee sauce comment) but maybe they are better this way. Stopped in to get a drink to go. The cashier dealt with a gentleman ahead of me and as he walked off, she looked at his receipt and said to the two girls on each side of her " nice, no tip, thanks!" It seemed so unprofessional to not only say that but say it right in front of me, another customer. Toast holds a near and dear spot in my heart, not just because the food is always good and the staff is always on-point, but because this is where my boyfriend took me on our first date, and it's where we went for our first anniversary-- with our second coming up, this may become a tradition. The interior is down-to-earth and casual, and the servers are always friendly and prompt. The food is excellent if you're into home-style dishes like meatloaf or mac and cheese (my favorite), and the prices are reasonable. I've gone there with just me and my boyfriend, as a group outing, and even solo on a day where I just needed a terrific pick-me-up from a wonderful restaurant-- every time I've been there, it's been a pleasant experience and a warm environment to build fond memories on!
