I had such a great experience at this salon on Friday 12/5. Firstly, i booked 2 months ago in early October with Roxan for a updo and asked about makeup. She recommended Kglam. I heard about both of them from my current hair stylist who said Roxan is the best for updo and anyone she hires for makeup is great. She did not lie. I paid my deposits for both of them and showed up at 11am sharp for my appt. I got my hair washed and i was out in the dryer with rollers while i waited for roxan. When my hair was dried, i got my makeup done and Roxan styled another client. After my makeup was done she styled my hair. She was honest about what would work and not work for my hair as my hair is very long but fine. And she added hair and things to make it look fuller. I left feeling beautiful and my son even called me a princess! It's now Sunday night and my hair is still intact, i don't want to undo it because i love it and have been sleeping with a bonnet and it looks exactly the same ! The makeup didn't budge at all until i washed it off. I will def be back for all future events. The only reason why I am not giving 5 stars is for the following reasons: it's very hard to schedule an appointment. I called to set two separate appointments, one for a styling appointment for a photo-shoot and another appointment with a colorist for another date. However, I was told that someone would text to schedule my styling appointment which took 48 hours to finally confirm an appointment. I am used to scheduling the same day and not having to deal with multiple individuals in order to set an appointment, so for me, that aspect was very disorganized. Although, the colorist, Phillip was very easy to communicate with and we were easily able to set-up an appointment together. Next, the salon does not display any price ranges for services nor do they have a menu available, so the prices are ambiguous and unclear which made me uncomfortable. To me that means that the salon can charge whatever they deem as appropriate without having a range to take into consideration. With that aside, if scheduling were easier and service prices were displayed, Tobi salon would receive a full 5 stars from me, because they provide outstanding services once you're actually there. The colorist, Phillip is phenomenal. Philip is professional, personable, knowledgeable, clearly an expert in his field, and it is indicative that absolutely loves his job which is expressed in the outcome of his work as a colorist. I will absolutely return to see Phillip in the future. I also saw Roxanne for a completely separate appointment on a different day for styling. Roxanne is also an expert in her field and did an outstanding job styling my hair for my maternity photoshoot. Roxanne has a great way of communicating, she works quickly and efficiently, and loves what she does too. She even reset my curls when they fell loose due to humidity when I left the salon. Roxanne had a great attitude and didn't seem frustrated at all which I noted as a huge positive. Overall, the salon is very clean, everyone is very professional, and the services offered are excellent. I highly recommend if you're local in the Heights or somewhere within the vicinity... you will be very pleased with the outcome. read more

I found Tobi Salon while searching for a dynamic hair and makeup duo to do my July wedding. I came across Roxan and set up a trial. She was easy and quick to communicate with. For my first trial I came unprepared but Roxan made me magic happen and gave me more hairstyle options than I had anticipated would be possible. I went back to the salon for my bridal shower and rehearsal dinner hair and makeup needs. On my wedding day Roxan and Jewels arrived at our looking island hotel promptly. They did everyone in my bridal party to their liking and were patient with all of my girls' requests. They even provided me with the makeup they used so I could refresh throughout the day. Philip is awesome! Went for a balayage ombre. He was very honest about not reaching the lightness I wanted bc I had so much color buildup in my hair. So we reached on an agreement on a light brown balayage. I lasted over 6 hours but I didn't mind one bit. He took his time to make sure my hair came out no less than perfect. THIS REVIEW IS FOR BROWS BY D - I was misconceived by the instagram pictures with perfect brows. I was so excited to get my eyebrows done by her, I let them grow out for months. The time had come! Deniss Came to New York for her monthly visit. I arrived to the Tobi Salon excited to get my eyebrows shaped and tinted. There was a LOT of us eagerly waiting for our eyebrows to be transformed. I spoke to a few girls and just like me, they too were new clients. Deniss passed us and did not even greet anyone. As a matter of fact, she was quite rude. She would yell, "name? What's your name?" Then we continued to wait. I'm guessing she was writing names down somewhere. I don't know. I figured it was no big deal as long as my eyebrows are perfect when I leave. It was finally my turn! I explained to Deniss I wanted to keep my eyebrows full. She said she knows what she's doing. Okay then... After about ten minutes, she was done. She tells me I need to grow out my brows. Are you kidding me??? I grew them out for months and even had people comment on how thick they were. She then tells me she can't Tint them. THE ONE REAL REASON I CAME TO HER!!! I finally looked at my brows, they were pencil thin! What the hell!!! Complete opposite of THICK! If I would've known, I would've went to a local Indian spot where they charge $6!!! It will now take months to grow out the nightmare she did on my eyebrows. Another example of don't believe the hype!!! She only posts eyebrows that were fairly simple to do. Cleaning up THICK, ALREADY SHAPED, brows is not a huge task. Spare yourself the trouble and save your money! There are much better eyebrow experts, who take pride in what they do and are very professional! Never again!!! read more

This is the Dominican salon experience without the loud music, gossip culture, and 3 hour investment that you are use to, and yet you still get the finished results you expect with a Dominican salon. I went to Roxana for a keratin treatment and I had heard good things about her attention to details and I am very careful with who does my keratin which I do once a year on average. I check ingredients and ask questions and want to know that the person is knowledgeable and using something we both feel safe using and that won't cause damage with cheap chemicals. Roxana understands that and worked efficiently and gave my advice on hair care that I welcomed. When I went 3 days later to wash out the keratin blow out with the keratin, she used sulfate free shampoo and conditioner (which in most Dominican salons, you have to provide yourself because they use products with sulfate which strips the natural keratin and the keratin treatment off your hair). She works only with appointments so there is no long wait time. The keratin treatment too 90 min from beginning to end and was $200 (additional was the haircuts I got before the keratin) and the follow up blow out was $35. The work was fast, efficient, good and I recommend her for keratin treatments to remove frizz from hair. read more

In a neighborhood FILLED with hair salons, it's hard to stand out. I have traveled to different boroughs to get my desired look, as I've had more hairstyles than I can count. Transitioning to natural hair left me limited options, and traveling wasn't always the most convenient. I needed something closer, and fast. The hair salons in my neighborhood had a tough time understanding my natural hair process at first. It wasn't as popular as it is now, so I got a lot of pushback. They also weren't able to straighten my hair well enough without a tremendous amount of frizz! Not Tobi! I've done my hair with both Phil and Roxanne. They're both super talented, patient and best of all.....THEY LISTEN TO WHAT YOU WANT! Not only have they been with me during my transition, but it's the only place in the Dyckman area that provides a next level in customer service. From the little things like providing lemon water and wine on ocassion, this establishment is all about the little details. They KNOW HAIR! This isn't the place that only knows how to cut and style your hair in one style So, for those looking for a hair salon that isn't a full day produciton, doesn't have music blaring, can offer variety, reasonable prices (considering the great service and quality) and is a comfortable experience.....this is the place! From a simple wash and set to color to Keratin, extensions - if you dont believe me go on Instagram and the list goes on and on they are two of the best stylists in upper Manhattan. Roxanne will grow your hair. They take care of your hair and make sure to follow up with you regarding maintenance. Vino does makeup and she is very well known for the work that she does - she will have you looking like a million bucks.
