I struggled with this update as i did not want to over shadow the entire restaurant by one persons unprofessional behavior; the takeout Staff. I have been a long time customer at Tobiko for both dine in and takeout. The food is usually very good and sometimes excellent. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I have always appreciated that the restaurant is clean, the waitstaff are friendly, and the team has been accommodating when I began requesting low sodium dishes.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Unfortunately, I have had repeated negative experiences with the young lady who handles takeout orders at the register. While the rest of the team is professional and welcoming, her attitude varies depending on her mood. On some days she is pleasant and seems happy, but when she is not in a good mood, she becomes rude and dismissive toward customers. During my most recent visit, I ordered sushi and a bubble tea. While taking my order, she barely made eye contact and spoke in a tone that felt annoyed or uninterested. I tried to overlook it as I have before. However, a mishap occurred with the bubble tea machine when the lid was not sealed properly, and the drink spilled on my off white coat, leaving a stain. When I explained what happened, she seemed visibly irritated, took the cup without a word, and began making a new drink. I politely asked if the new drink could have less ice, and she snapped, "There is no ice in here," in a tone that drew the attention of nearby customers. The other staff member who had originally dropped off my sushi to her had left but came back when she was remaking the drink. When he asked what was happening, she pointed at me, the drink, and the bubble tea machine, and then started laughing. I told her that I did not find the situation funny and that her reaction was inappropriate. She continued to smirk and laugh instead of apologizing. The other employee was polite and did apologize on her behalf, but she showed no professionalism at all. This was extremely disappointing, especially considering how much I have enjoyed Tobiko in the past. If this is the kind of customer service the restaurant is willing to accept at the front counter, I will have to reconsider coming here in the future, and I will share my experience with family and friends who also frequent Tobiko. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and addresses the issue so that the restaurant's great food and service reputation is not overshadowed by one person's inconsistent and unprofessional behavior. read more

This place has a variety I mean the menu is extensive! The first thing I chose to have was the shrimp pad Thai and it was good the noodles were thinner than what I am used to but it was overall good and they give a good amount of shrimp. I have also had a tempura lobster roll that was ok but I'm sure they have some other good ones. I have brought many people here and we will continue to support. The ambiance is nice, the food is great, and the service is extremely fast. Please Only order WHAT YOU CAN ACTUALLY EAT! They will charge you for left over food and I've witness disappointed customers getting upset. Which is why their rating is lower than it should be. They are transparent about the rules of takeout but people refuse to listen and use yelp as a way to vent. It is better to order a smaller serving first and then order more later! Woah. A 2 1/2 star average? I won't lie, I was a little nervous about my recent dinner here at Tobiko (celebrating a friend's b-day). Reviews don't paint a splendid picture of the place....but perhaps some combination of reading previous happenings and going in with prior knowledge of their concept helped me walk out of Tobiko with a mostly positive experience. Onward to the four star review! When I say prior knowledge of the concept, I mean that this isn't the first ayce Asian food spot I've consumed. The wonderful Nova Asian Bistro does similar things in it's set up so I knew what to expect here. If you go in not knowing how it all works (or you just choose not to read the rules) then you're bound to leave with a grimace on your face. Familiarize yourself with the process and expect a tasty endeavor to follow. Tasty it was as I started with some hot and sour soup. Not the greatest bowl I've consumed, but it did the trick. My next order was edamame (can't go wrong there) and pork gyoza (which were unbelievable). Perfection in a pocket. I followed that up with...well, more pork gyoza (no judgement). After that it was sushi time. I'm still feeling it out with this portion of Asian cuisine, but the three rolls (Boston, Philadelphia, Shrimp Tempura) I shared with my girlfriend and my good buddy were all scrumptious. I already adored the city of brotherly love and now I love the roll named after it! Moving on, I went for some pad Thai. Again, not the best I've had, but tasty to say the least. I split some chicken fried rice with the lady which proved to be a winner as was a bite of her chicken teriyaki that I was able to snag. Round it out with a little green tea ice cream and we had a meal of epic proportions. So why is Tobiko connected to such a low Yelp score? Perhaps it's the service. Don't get me wrong, ours was pretty decent. We were a large party so we had several waiters/waitresses taking orders and delivering the goods, so that might've helped curb this possible problem. Though there was a little chaos with who ordered what and where it went. There were also a few missing items (my buddy's beer and GF's water) which needed a little reminder or two towards one of the servers. Or, perhaps it's a combination of the service with those aforementioned "rules." There seems to be some controversy via reviews about this and I can understand why. Nothing can be taken home without a charge and if you order too much you'll have to pay for what's left. I get why Tobiko does this. They don't want someone ordering oodles of noodles and taking it home as a way to "cheat" the acye system. Maybe there's a better way to handle this? All I know is besides our large group and one other decently-sized table, the place was basically empty during peak Saturday hours (5:30-8:30). Odd for sure. Overall, I liked Tobiko. Call me crazy, or a rule-follower, or a novice sushi-eater, but I don't see too many negatives, at least not from my dining experience. The food was above average and for the price ($19!) I'd totally consider a return if I'm near the area. Who knows, the next trip might reveal some 2 1/2 star secrets, but for now, consider Tobiko worthy of your all you can eat cravings. read more

My bf found this spot close by on Google Maps and I was craving sushi so we decided to try it for takeout since we didn't have time for a sit down. So surprised by the ratings on Yelp. The online ordering process was easy. They sent an email with the confirmation and pick up time, came at the estimated time and the order was ready. Their rolls were all 30% off which was such a steal I think it made us order way more than we thought we could eat lol. After the discount, most of the rolls came out to $11.20 each with the smaller rolls like Alaska being $5-7. We got the Naruto roll, Tobiko sushi sandwich (was a little sketch on this but I was intrigued so had to see what it was), Alaska roll, Dynamite, Tobiko roll, Sushi Cake roll, and Out of Control roll (lol like us ordering). I would pass on the Tobiko sushi sandwich - I think all the flavors just meshed together and it was a bit mushy for me. The rest of the rolls were tasty and they didn't skimp on fish. Our eyes were def bigger than our stomachs. Our fave was the Naruto roll since it was very fresh and packed with fish. I would come back to try other rolls. I love this place. We used to do the awesome "All you can eat" dinner, but haven't had time in the past few years. Yesterday we went to place an order online but their website kept kicking back, so I called. I was skeptical calling it in, but the girl wasn't sure why my order wasn't going through online, so I had no choice. Being I had a few things, such as no ginger on any of the sushi plates, we didn't want any mistakes. We'll let me say that this order was delivered to us EXACTLY as ordered on the phone. EVERYTHING was amazingly DELICIOUS. See pictures of everything we ordered that was exceptional. Crispy Scallops, Beef Tenderloins, Six Flags Roll, Rocket Roll, a side of extra wasabi and a Taro Slush w/boba.
