Can't say enough good things about this quaint little place. The food was great and the staff is friendly. Ok so I'm quite shocked about some of the bad reviews here and now I notice the restaurant had a change in their title, so I'm assuming a reimage. Either way, during my stay here in town, this became my breakfast spot. Easily, good food, great prices for the area, really pretty atmosphere and the staff were very friendly and knowledge about the area, service was amazing! Having eaten at Katz's Deli in New York, as well as numerous other Jewish Delis on Long Island, I can say they served the poorest example of any Hot Pastrami on Rye I have ever tasted. The Pastrami was lean dry side and room temperature, not hot and juicy like it should be, and not served on a legitimate Jewish rye bread. If you're not from New York, you might like it. The has grown patties were clearly from frozen as were the sausage links. The egg was not great and even the toast was really small,,cheap bread. I got to chatting with the coupke,at the other table, his French toast and bacon and get plate of corned beef hash only plus 2 coffees was almost at $40, plus they were not impressed. Maybe they think the N.Y. in their name means they should charge N.Y. prices? read more

Nothing about the sandwiches are great. If you notice you will find it is hard to find the prices of the sandwiches online. There are paper copy menus outside the restaurant still with no prices listed. When you go inside you will pay 16.00 for an average turkey sandwich and then they'll ask for their paper copy menu back bc it now cost them 15 cents to print. read more

We went here for breakfast over the weekend while vacationing in the area. The prices are absolutely outrageous. A Lox bagel was $16. For that price i'd expect a lot of smoked salmon, which there wasn't, or at the very least for them to assemble the beak for you. Nope. Had to make it myself. Nothing special about the bagel, the cream cheese came in one of those single serving containers. We also got the Chicken biscuit with gravy. The biscuit and gravy was good but the piece of chicken on it was very obviously frozen. Soggy and just not fresh at all. To pay almost $50 for 2 coffees and 2 very mediocre meals hurt. Oh, and you also have to go get your food yourself! No need to tip because you're doing all the service yourself. read more

Y'all. I don't even know what to say here, but I'll give it my best shot. This is an old house that someone converted into a restaurant and I'm 100% sure it doesn't meet fire codes. I should've known that it wasn't going to be a good experience when it took 20 minutes just to get inside the door. I don't understand how so many people pack into this place. It's insane. So insane that my husband had to walk around outside with my 15-month-old and eat from IGA because there was no way for him to come inside and eat with us. Did I mention it was 50 degrees and overcast and we had just taken the Blue Ridge Railroad open air car an hour to get there? Umm, we kind of needed an indoor table to eat with our two small children. I waited 45 minutes for 2 plates of eggs/biscuits and some pancakes for my daughter (which didn't come with a side and was like $12...) and I couldn't get around to get sugar and cream for my terrible coffee without running into every other person in this place. And then, when I finally got the food I waited forever for, it was wrong. I told them no gravy on the biscuits and there was so much gravy on both plates that I didn't even know I had biscuits at all underneath. I never got the to go box I asked for so I could bring the food to my husband. When someone finally left so he could push the stroller in, he had to stand and eat because it was so clustered. This was just a bad experience all around. Avoid this place unless you're willing to wreck a b*tch to get a table. read more

I'm not a big fan of taking time to write a not so great review, but sometimes if I would have encountered a review that would prevent me from having less than acceptable experience, it should have helped me to get goods/services else where. I will start by saying that I am not from Georgia and therefore I had tourist written all over me. It doesn't make me less than a customer, but it appears that the gentleman giving out advertisements to folks that go off the scenic train, didn't like my look. I got this when he was giving papers to everyone and gave me a different look. I could notice disgust on his face. My group was made out of six and we walked with the given time the train provides (appx two hours) so we were rushing. We stopped at the Rum Cake Lady and almost dined there. Different atmosphere and customer service driven employees. I wanted to eat there, but was voted out. I wanted to see the items Katz's provided and broke the rule of asking for a menu if available (while I was standing on the line to order) The head person didn't like that but provided a menu on paper anyways. Second bad face I got. These types of things prevent you from telling yourself, I'm spending my money wisely. I won't expand on the food, it was not worthy. I will have to say that the establishment has a different decor that I found interesting, but the only good service I got was from the lady that took our food to the table. She deserves praise for making us feel welcome, while the person with the flyers continue to look at us as if we were from Mars. read more

We took the Blue Ridge Scenic train into town and popped into this place. From the outside it looks like an old house. Quaint and nice. Even the restroom is a regular house bathroom with a tub. Everything else was a disappointment. The food was beyond basic, expensive, and just so-so. Portions were very small with sad presentation. Think elementary school cafeteria. It took almost 40 minutes to come out, and we ordered PB&J, grilled cheese, smoked brisket, and a hot dog. 40 minutes for that?? It wasn't even very busy, around 1pm on a Monday. During this time of economic uncertainty it is especially important to support our local businesses when we can. I recently visited this establishment after having had to go out for a essential personal matter and needed to grab a quick bite to eat and a cup of coffee. Having driven and walked by this place hundreds of times saying we need to try it, I am so glad we finally did! I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the coffee and the food that was served to me. The atmosphere was a country style deli combined with that of the walk up style you would expect of that in a deli in the NY area. Having been born and raised in the North East it was like a taste of home for me when I bit into my Everything Bagel Bacon egg and cheese breakfast sandwich hot off their grill. As I viewed over their vast selection I saw many of the delicacies from my childhood on their menu including a deli Pastrami sandwich in which I promised I would come back to try someday soon! I personally cannot wait!!! The service was kind personable and courteous. The staff was knowledgeable about their products and eager to please. If you are in the area visiting or a local just passing by like I was, it's well worth the visit for a cup of that delicious coffee and a bagel!!! read more

Great lunch spot. We had a pastrami sandwich and a corned beef sandwich. Both were great. The pastrami might be just a smidge better. Bread was toasted. Just the right amount of toppings and sauce. For a $13 sandwich, a plate would be great. Chips that weren't in a bag would be nicer. The black and white cookies are the BEST. The chocolate chip cookie was delicious. Looks like most of the bad reviews are from people from NYC where apparently there's some deli that this one claims to be. Whatever. I've never been to NYC. We came here for breakfast with a group of 6. It's an old house so we had our own room, which was very nice. Food was very good and there was plenty of it! Price ain't too expensive, but it ain't cheap. We had bagels, omelet, bacon/egg/ cheese biscuits, coffee, oj. All very good. Love the food and atmosphere. Had lunch here while in MCCAYSVILLE and it was ok. It's in a quaint little house and they have little dining rooms in the various rooms of the house. My wife and I both got the chicken salad she loved it and I did not as it had nuts and grapes. My son got the hotdog and it was huge. The service was quick and overall experience was enjoyable. It should be noted that we expected to be able to get good home brewed sweet tea, but were disappointed that it tasted like it was poured from a bottle. read more

To be honest I wasn't expecting NYC Katz, however, I didn't receive nowhere close to it. The biscuit and gravy is an impostor of what it should be. Food was good. Had a apple pecan muffin it was delicious. Counter staff was friendly and the women running food. There was a line out the door so I understand it was busy, but I'm giving them 2 stars because we were in the place for a total of 30-45 min. This includes sitting, waiting for food and then eating it. Out of my group of 4, 1 of my friends was grading some papers on her laptop she's a teacher. We finished eating and 3 of us were getting up to go walk around town and she was going to stay a little longer and finish working with her coffee. As SOON as the 3 of us god up, a tall man with a "Katz" shirt came over frantically saying "are you guys done??? Are you leaving?" And we said we were but she was staying to finish up working, his response..."okay well she's gonna have to move to a smaller table." Rudely and walked away..and there were NO smaller tables!! You can't kick a customer out of their table after they paid and waited to eat your food and GAVE YOU BUSINESS. Doesn't matter how busy it is. Extremely rude and unprofessional. read more

A beautiful old converted house with a wonderful porch. There were so many nice things about Katz's Deli! The staff was really nice and they make killer chocolate thick shakes!! My hubby got, what he said, was the best Rueben sandwich. I'm a huge fan of breakfast at any old time, so I got a home made breakfast croissant. Yummy! When we spoke to the staff, we were told all the meats, breads and pastry were made on site. It shows! Thankfully, we don't live too far away and we can visit again soon. read more

Stopped by as we were riding the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway. Busy as many people get off the train and head right to it. Sandwiches are not stacked as high as Katz's in NY. All food was good, grilled cheese, hot dog, chicken Salad and Pastrami were good. Good quality food for the amount you get. May be a little pricey, could use a choice of chips beside Lays. Bathrooms could use a major update and some more ventilation. Very satisfied with our stop and food. Keep up the good work. read more

Having lived in NYC in my younger years and now having just moved to the Ocoee area of TN I was looking forward to visiting this Deli. In NYC Katz's deli is staple and I've eaten there perhaps 100's of times. Let me start by stating that there is no way that this Deli is associated with Katz's deli of NYC as their logo infers. I had a pastrami sandwich on rye and candidly it sucked. By saying this I'm giving a comp[arsion to the NYC deli but rather just observing that it was that bad. The portion of meat was quite small for a $12 sandwich but more importantly the pastrami was just horrible. Sliced too thin, way too lean and very, very salty. The rye bread was doughy and too think....not the proper jewish. This was just a bad sandwich all around. Service was just ok. The woman behind the counter was abrupt, not friendly in the least and many items were sold out or simply not available. Anyways, I've tried this place, most certainly wouldn't recommend it and won't be bringing friends and family here when they visit. On the plus side the coffee was good. read more

The owner and manager were very friendly and helpful - taking the time to chat with us. Our meal was delicious! I had a pastrami sandwich and my husband had the Rueben. The location is quaint - a converted old house with handmade quilts adorning the walls. Great outdoor seating options as well. New York Deli? It was pretty disappointing. I got a $12 chicken salad sandwich and one on field greens and the chicken salad was mostly mayonnaise, and served with Lays chips. It was supposed to be accompanied by a pickle. A good NY Deli always sells sandwiches with a pickle. It's the little things that matter a lot. Like the front door that slams loudly every time someone comes in...or the food beepers that we're going off the entire time you're eating. It didn't make for an enjoyable experience at all. We came with the expectation of what we had in NY..but unfortunately, not the same experience. We ordered the pastrami sandwich and that is all it was..pastrami on cold bread. In NY it was about 3" tall and enough for 2. This sandwich was about 1" tall and enough for 1. For the price, not sure it was worth it. I believe it was $11. Plus the chips and drinks. The lady at the checkout was very sweet and the place the was clean and very attractive but unfortunately, my choice was not the best this time. This is a cute little New York Deli in a historic looking old home (there is a bathtub in the bathroom!) that is decorated very cute throughout. Orders are placed at the counter, you grab your beverage choice from the cooler and they either buzz you or bring your food to the table. There is ample seating indoors and out. Each sandwich comes with regular Lay's potato chips and none of our group liked them so wished they had more choices! The service was quick and convenient for those of us in town with the Blue Ridge Scenic Train but I found that the sandwiches were a bit over priced for what was given. The turkey Ruben was made with processed sliced turkey and ran almost $13. It did come with their homemade red cabbage "sauerkraut" that was very good but more like coleslaw. I was providing lunch for 8 people so I found the whole experience very pricey. Located in a town where a train carrying primarily tourists stops most weekends, the businesses in this neighborhood either impress or not. In the case of Katz Deli it is a big not!There is absolutely no way the Katz Deli folks in NYC would approve of this place. We ordered a much anticipated pastrami on rye with cole slaw. Although fresh, the rye bread was not the expected rye and pumpernickel swirled variety. The meat was extremely salty, sliced way too thick and sadly lacking in quantity. The cole slaw came out of a 1 gallon food service bucket. It tasted exactly like it did too. In conclusion, stay away from this place. There are many other eating establishments within walking distance who seek to give tremendous quality dining at reasonable prices. read more
