a sandwich and a pickle

Great place for a quick lunch if you are taking the train trip from Blue Ridge. We had the Rueben and it was spot on. The restaurant is in a cool ole house right across from the train station.

Having eaten at Katz's Deli in New York, as well as numerous other Jewish Delis on Long Island, I can say they served the poorest example of any Hot Pastrami on Rye I have ever tasted. The Pastrami was lean dry side and room temperature, not hot and juicy like it should be, and not served on a legitimate Jewish rye bread. If you're not from New York, you might like it. Done.

Not worth it

Y'all. I don't even know what to say here, but I'll give it my best shot. This is an old house that someone converted into a restaurant and I'm 100% sure it doesn't meet fire codes. I should've known that it wasn't going to be a good experience when it took 20 minutes just to get inside the door. I don't understand how so many people pack into this place. It's insane. So insane that my husband had to walk around outside with my 15-month-old and eat from IGA because there was no way for him to come inside and eat with us. Did I mention it was 50 degrees and overcast and we had just taken the Blue Ridge Railroad open air car an hour to get there? Umm, we kind of needed an indoor table to eat with our two small children. I waited 45 minutes for 2 plates of eggs/biscuits and some pancakes for my daughter (which didn't come with a side and was like $12...) and I couldn't get around to get sugar and cream for my terrible coffee without running into every other person in this place. And then, when I finally got the food I waited forever for, it was wrong. I told them no gravy on the biscuits and there was so much gravy on both plates that I didn't even know I had biscuits at all underneath. I never got the to go box I asked for so I could bring the food to my husband. When someone finally left so he could push the stroller in, he had to stand and eat because it was so clustered. This was just a bad experience all around. Avoid this place unless you're willing to wreck a b*tch to get a table.

During this time of economic uncertainty it is especially important to support our local businesses when we can. I recently visited this establishment after having had to go out for a essential personal matter and needed to grab a quick bite to eat and a cup of coffee. Having driven and walked by this place hundreds of times saying we need to try it, I am so glad we finally did! I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the coffee and the food that was served to me. The atmosphere was a country style deli combined with that of the walk up style you would expect of that in a deli in the NY area. Having been born and raised in the North East it was like a taste of home for me when I bit into my Everything Bagel Bacon egg and cheese breakfast sandwich hot off their grill. As I viewed over their vast selection I saw many of the delicacies from my childhood on their menu including a deli Pastrami sandwich in which I promised I would come back to try someday soon! I personally cannot wait!!! The service was kind personable and courteous. The staff was knowledgeable about their products and eager to please. If you are in the area visiting or a local just passing by like I was, it's well worth the visit for a cup of that delicious coffee and a bagel!!!

Pastrami sandwich. Yummy!

Great lunch spot. We had a pastrami sandwich and a corned beef sandwich. Both were great. The pastrami might be just a smidge better. Bread was toasted. Just the right amount of toppings and sauce. For a $13 sandwich, a plate would be great. Chips that weren't in a bag would be nicer. The black and white cookies are the BEST. The chocolate chip cookie was delicious. The weather was nice so we sat on the front porch and watched small town America go by. It was a nice day.

Chicken Salad with a Croissant

Had lunch here while in MCCAYSVILLE and it was ok. It's in a quaint little house and they have little dining rooms in the various rooms of the house. My wife and I both got the chicken salad she loved it and I did not as it had nuts and grapes. My son got the hotdog and it was huge. The service was quick and overall experience was enjoyable. It should be noted that we expected to be able to get good home brewed sweet tea, but were disappointed that it tasted like it was poured from a bottle.

Well let's just say this deli will not be confused with a real New York Deli. Not even the pickles are kosher dill. It was an ok place for lunch if a small plate of tuna salad (emphasis on small) and chewy corned beef not cut deli style ( too thick - think St Patty's Day) Is your jam. Appreciated the outside seating

Friendly and something different. Love Katz in NYC. Got the corn beef Reuben. Can't go wrong.

good food but more pricy than we thought it would be. The sandwiches come with a bag of chips or small cup of coleslaw.

Club sandwich was SO good. A little pricey, but definitely worth it! Sadly we don't live nearby, but if we did I would be back often!

A definite stop for breakfast or lunch -- amazing Ruben (enough for 2) -- patio seating in the heart of downtown. Easy walk from train.

Coffee was great, owners were friendly, and breakfast was good. Stop by when you are in McCaysville or Copperhill.

As a South Florida native who is obsessed with Cuban food, I had read the reviews beforehand and was really hoping they would live up to the hype and thankfully, they absolutely did. Walking into this place felt like a little piece of home while on vacation. The fresh pastelitos, tostadas, house-made rum cake, and a cafecito were exactly what I didn't know I needed that day. Everything is made in-house, and you can taste the care and authenticity in every bite. Finding such great Cuban food in another state truly felt like the cherry on top of the trip. Aesthetically, the space is full of Cuban pride. The walls share the story of how the Rum Cake Lady came to exist, and it's genuinely beautiful to read about the journey behind the business while you're there enjoying the food. What stood out to me the most was how busy the place was long lines and lots of traction yet the staff remained friendly, welcoming, and attentive throughout it all. That kind of hospitality makes a big impression. Thankfully, after a quick search, I discovered there's another Rum Cake Lady Cuban Café location not too far from the cabin we were staying at in Blue Ridge. Of course, we had to go back this time for dinner ordering the classic media noche! If you're visiting the area and craving something authentic and full of flavor, this place is a must. I'm really hoping they continue to expand, because what they've created is truly special.

We were passing through and saw the full parking lot and thought, "Looks really busy, must be…read moregood." First of all, the menu is HUGE, for a bar! This is a red flag. When the special of the night is "Alfredo... with chicken, pork, or steak, take your pick!" and it's also already on the menu... this is a red flag. I quickly started scanning the menu for something that might not give me food poisoning. When the food is stored in outside freezers and there's a horde of live cats running around everywhere... it's a red flag. I love good bar food, but this was not good. My wife's Philly Cheesesteak tasted like propane gas. My chili dog was on par with something you might get at a junior high football game. Even my kids rejected their chicken tenders, which is saying something. Just 100% industrial, frozen, crap. The $13 margarita was even bad. It tasted like bad sour mix and may have had a drop or two of tequila in it. Giving one star for the server, who tried her best. And the location on the river was very nice. Service was slow too though. This was the worst $85 "dinner" I've had in a very, very long time. For the love of god, reduce the size of your menu and do a few things really well. No one wants a bunch of frozen entrees at a bar.
