Actually, my corned beef on rye was very good but not really $15 good. My wife's grilled cheese and tomato sandwich was very good it was all pretty much neutralized by the absolutely rude cashier Nancy. We aren't talking the kind of rude you'd actually get being in New York as you might expect. McCaysville is a small quaint town in GA just over the Tennessee state line in the Cherokee National Forrest. Anyway, Nancy, we ate on the patio where during our lunch we struck up conversation with 3 other couples, none of those 6 people enjoyed their food (reminder; we did enjoy our food) but the conversations focused on just how rude the cashier was. No smile, no pleasantries just impatient, careless behavior. Maybe she was having a bad day but she turned that into a bad experience for everyone. I would not return to Katz's in McCaysville, GA and would suggest you avoid this franchised resturant and dine in one of the many other place is this town. read more

I have to give Katz's only 1 star. Don't let the fact that it is one of the first places to eat when exiting the train pull you in. I wish we had kept walking. We did not get a friendly reception from this restaurant. They did not have a kids menu. My 9 year old wanted a grill cheese sandwich. I could not believe his sandwich was over $12! We traveled with a large group of 11 and no one raved about their food. The pastrami was very dry. For a party of 5 for sandwiches and drinks was over $70-just not worth it! Keep walking - it is not as good as the Katz deli in NYC though we paid NYC prices!!!! read more

Summary: Make your own sandwich from the grocery across the street. I find it insulting that this place can call itself not only a New York Deli but try to utilize Katz's name as a symbol of their inferred quality and overpriced Reuben (which this establishment calls their special). It is not special. It is edible, but it is in no way $13 special. The meat and cheese are extremely generic. The 'sauerkraut' is in no way reminiscent of sour nor kraut. The pickle was a stale imposter from a jar and nowhere close to a proper kosher deli pickle. They could of at least TRIED by getting some Klossen pickles from across the street. As for my date, she went for an 'everything' bagel with egg, cheese. Should be easy enough. Nope. Processed cheese plus a substandard egg on a non-toasted store-bagel. All for the incredibly low price of $9. My recommendation is that the owners/cooks rename the establishment to something more appropriate such as Edible Deli, then, take a field trip to New York and go to a deli and go to a bagel shop. Then, come back and find a different style of food to serve. Preying upon tourist travelers on scenic trains seasonally does not a good reputation make. No wonder so many cafes and restaurants here are trying to sell their buildings. I foresee a sale coming up soon at this address. read more

We had our 25th Silver Anniversary Conference of Association of Lincoln Presenters last week, April 11 to 14. We had 55 folks from all over the country show up at the Amicalola Falls State Park & Lodge. Everyone was impressed with the views from the Lodge but the highlight of our 4 days in Georgia was the train ride from Blue Ridge to McCaysville & our meals at the Katz's New York Deli. Absolutely delicious food. Wonderful, knowledgeable and friendly staff. Atmosphere in an old home is very cozy.

My family and I have wanted to try this place so we went for breakfast. The food wasn't bad (wasn't great but any means either) but the cost was outrageous. For 3 people and a toddler it was $53. For breakfast! I definitely don't think the quality and portion sizes represent the price paid. read more

It might be a great lunch spot for some but $18.95 for a Corn Beef Sandwich and a bottle Coke is a little much. I was there yesterday and people that come in after me got there sandwich long before me and the reason I know this is because I shared my table with a couple that came in after me. They had a the same thing I did only he had a coke and she had tea and there food come out long before mine. I had to go and ask about mine and then had to get it to go. By the time I was able to eat it then it was cold. Will never go there again. read more

Beware of the value! Monday morning our family strolls into this cute restaurant that is clean and tidy for some breakfast. Everything looks good and truly tasted good. However breakfast for six that costs over $110 and where the staff is nickel and diming the patrons is absurd for this class of dining. Water was only available by the bottle and for $2.50 each. Then if you'd like to substitute a part of your meal expect a hard no and following that a word on how "the meals come as described and anything added would have to be purchased in-full separately!" Careful with the coffee too cause I asked for an extra shot of espresso in my coffee and the guy tried to charge $2.65 for each extra shot in a coffee already over $5! I would rate one star but the food actually wasn't too bad and that counts for something. Overall, really disappointed with the service and experience our family had today. Beware! read more

Club sandwich was SO good. A little pricey, but definitely worth it! Sadly we don't live nearby, but if we did I would be back often!

We had such a great experience here! (Especially after experiencing unfriendly staff around the corner at Happy Bear) The wonderful ladies at Katz were very accommodating and polite, and made sure we had everything we needed! We so very enjoyed the food and coffee, especially the pastrami sandwich . If we visit this area again, we will definitely be coming back to Katz! Omg, run from this place. I have no idea how on earth they stay in business. It must be the non-suspecting train riders and tourist. It's a very cute little historic home on the main drag right across from the train stop. Extremely over priced. I mean, it was $34.00 for a chicken salad sandwich and a Ruben with a tea and bottled water. The sandwiches come with chips and a pickle. The Ruben was not as large as they claimed, and it's really not a Ruben. It has red cabbage and no Swiss cheese. The meat was tough. I had the chicken salad which was not edible. It was like chicken spread with sweet pickles and tons of mayo. Our companion got the BLT which was $9.00, the cheapest sandwich other than the $6.00 PBJ. It was on white toast, with three pieces of precooked cold bacon, super thin, iceberg lettuce and Roma tomato. I want to know who can actually afford to eat there. If the food had even been adequate I would not have felt totally ripped off. This is a small town with hard working people, many who struggle, they certainly can not afford to eat here, and again who would want to, the food was awful. It was a cute place looking in so I didn't understand the reviews until we actually decided to get food and coffee. The prices were insane, I payed 14 dollars for a BLT that was mediocre at best and another 2.16 for a macchiato that tasted funny. I had a delicious turkey Reuben (the Rachel)and cold brew coffee. The Reuben had a generous portion of quality turkey and it wasn't greasy like some places. The coffee was smooth. Highly recommended. While the food is good, I agree with those reviewers who say it is over-priced. I paid $31 for a grilled sandwich and ice tea each for me and my wife. An ice tea is $3.75!!! I normally pay less at a nice restaurant for dinner. Afterwards, I tried a regular cafe mocha with a small mini-cheesecake, the size of a small one or two bite muffin. I added a tip on their sales system, where they turn the screen around so you can add a tip, and the total was almost $9. Save your money and pack a lunch if you ride the train into McCaysville. This restaurant is the worst meal I have ever experienced. The meal was overpriced and the omelet I ordered was more like an egg flipped over in half. We waited 30 minutes for our food only to be disappointed. I did a Google review also, only to get a very rude response from the so called owner of Katz in McCaysville. I am assuming it was because I made his or her establishment look bad. I know what I experienced, I know what I ordered, and I knew the price before I ordered, but I expected a better meal and much more friendly service than we received.
