I reserved a month in advance for my husband and I to eat at 6:00, and the restaurant steadily filled up during the course of our dinner. This, on a Monday night, is surprising, and a testimony to Pai's popularity. The interior of the restaurant is quite beautiful and welcoming, betraying its somewhat sketchy location above the Rose and Crown Pub. Sure enough, we were not disappointed by our meal. We started with some deep fried tofu bites, and these were really crispy and a delicious way to prepare tofu. It was a perfect, light appetizer. Then, on to the main course: My husband ordered Chicken Pad See Ew, and it had the thickest noodles that I'd ever seen in this dish. I wasn't sure what to expect! I tried a bite, and it was so tasty, with a variety of textures and a slightly smoky flavour. The thick noodles were beautifully cooked and complemented the dish very well. To my surprise, it was one of the better renditions of Pad See Ew (my usual go-to at Thai restaurants) that I've tried. I ordered the Khao Soi, with both shrimp and tofu (they kindly obliged, with an extra charge for the shrimp). This was unlike anything I'd ever seen, and its presentation was spectacular, with it's golden curry sauce and plume of fried egg noodles. My first several bites were superb: the fragrant, coconut flavored curry sauce perfectly complemented the noodles, shrimp and particularly the toful. On another occasion, I think that I would just order the tofu. Eventually, I found the richness of the sauce too have overwhelmed me, and I took the rest home. With its really spectacular amount of coconut curry sauce, it was excellent the next day with some additional tofu and steamed rice. All in all, very satisfactory, and our waiter was really pleasant and informative about the food. Was it worth reserving a month in advance? I'd say yes, it was, as Pai presents an excellent interpretation of Thai food, and the presentation of the the Khao Soi alone was worth the wait! Not to mention, we had a whole meal the next day from the leftovers! We will come back when we are in the area, if we can get in!!

There were an assortment of tables: high tables and high stools, many tables for two, round tables for four or more, and long tables to sit large parties. The ambiance inside was very vibrant, I loved the colorful decor and the many paper lanterns that hung from the ceiling. I saw a little stage in the corner so it looked like they had live performances too. Unfortunately there was no one performing at the time we came, but I'd love to dine there and experience that next time. I ordered the Pad Thai Chicken with medium spice, and my boyfriend got the Khao Soi with Chicken. Our food was wonderful. My entree was sweet, savory, and had that umami flavor. It had such a rich combination of all those flavors combined. Also the portion size was huge, you definitely pay for the quality and the portion. My boyfriend's Khao Soi was delicious. The broth was coconut-y, creamy, and the flat noodle absorbed so much flavor from the broth. When we were done, all we had left was the broth and we even took that to go. I love that we both had leftovers. All in all, we had a great time. I would definitely come back again.

No one else was there that day except the front person helping us and people in the kitchen, no guests. He was friendly and did a little small talk, and said that they included an extra gochujang sauce for us to try (you get only one per bibimbap, but we did like dipping the kimbap in the soy sauce = not included). They make the soy sauce on site. We got Japchae, two types of bibimbap (one per person), and some kimbap for the kid. They are all tasty but I prefer my bibimbap with a little more flavour. This one, I only tasted that flavour when I added the gochujang sauce, but in other bibimbaps I like, the flavour is cooked into the toppings. The Japchae is good and I like that it doesn't taste strongly of garlic. It has wood ear mushroom and carrot and sesame. The kimbap was a bit more on the Bland side as well. We have some leftovers for lunch tomorrow. 9 items on menu and each meal is about $17-19 with tofu an extra $3 and bulgogi an extra $4. Friendly service though!
