My husband and I started our search in 2017. We met with Todd about our financial situation and for a pre-approval. I'm a first-time home buyer and I was quite nervous because I had no idea what I can get pre-approve for. As for my husband, he short sold a home in 2010 which end up hurting his credit and there was a waiting period for his credit to recover so he can buy again. We met with Todd in the summer of 2017 after processing everything and he sat down with us and walk through on the pre-approval amount and what our ideal monthly mortgage payment would be. He gave us different scenarios with an amount that we would be comfortable with. In addition, he educated us about our credit score and profile and how lenders view trade lines on our file. After our first meeting he gave us some suggestions how to boost my husband credit score by opening another trade line that would diversify his credit. We took his suggestion and opened an Amazon Retail Credit Card and it helped. During the summer of 2017, housing market was at its peak and we looked but didn't see anything we like so we took a break. Then came around 2018 we picked up our house search again. Over time, Todd would check in with us to see how we are doing. We have never felt pressure into buying. We emailed him over time inquiring about the interest rates and questions about loans here and there. He was always quick on responding to us even on weekends when our questions are not urgent. In the fall of 2018 housing market slowed down and we renewed our pre-approval just in case a home comes on the market. In November, we put in an offer on the 27th it got accepted and closed on 12/17! From the day our offer got accepted, Todd, Kelly and his Team worked fast on ensuring our closing was smooth and stress free for us as much as possible. I'm so amazed of how responsive everyone was. It was easy for me to call them or email on ANYTHING. From a question about my credit freeze to what kind of document I need to exactly upload. Todd and his Team worked weekends and responded to my emails as well. Over all, my first home buying experience was very positive. Todd highly encouraged us to get quotes from other lenders as well. In the process, we did get another quote from another lender and we went with Todd because of the service and speed. The other lender was a big bank and we didn't experience the same kind of service we got from him. If my husband and I plan on buying in the future, we would consider Todd for our second home. The worst experience I have had getting a mortgage loan. Very good service at first but when we needed to close, there was one delay after another and it forced us to close late. All of the delays could have been avoided however it was clear that the Commerce Mortgage folks have very poor coordination and do not communicate well enough. I had to ask for escalation to Commerce Mortgage management and even then they were not willing to take any accountability for the delays. You might get a great rate but if you want a no hassle process, go somewhere else. read more

We originally worked with Todd two years ago to purchase our first home as newlyweds, and we recently worked with him again as we're getting divorced and needed to re-finance. Funny how that works... :) We didn't have the greatest experience the first time around, but we decided to give Todd another chance because in the midst of everything going on with the divorce, we didn't want one more unknown. So, we reached out to him in September 2012 and got the re-finance process started. I was not directly involved in the new loan - I was only a third party. But, my ex says that he had a great experience with Todd and his assistant, and I agree from everything I encountered. His assistant is great -- there were a few instances where she needed something from me, and her communication was always professional, thoughtful, and timely. I was very impressed by her. And when it came time to sign paperwork, they were on top of things. I remember we called them at 11am to let them know we had some time (and, the energy to put up with each other) that day, and by noon they had a notary at the house ready to go. I can't comment on the rate Todd provided or other terms of the loan because I am unfamiliar with the specifics, but I believe that Todd is honest, fair, and knowledgeable, so I don't doubt that he offered what was best given our situation. Todd had committed to improving after my original review, and from everything I've observed he followed through on his word. As usual, he was very responsive and thorough, which is almost unheard of in the real estate world nowadays. Bottom line - I do plan on recommending him to others and going to him myself when the need for a mortgage arises in the future. read more
