This is a fun and affordable course. There is no ranger, so pace of play can definitely be affected. Be prepared for many, many birds- look out for those droppings! This course is right next to the airport, I love watching the planes land and take off. read more

Do not bring kids to this course! I brought my three young sons to play here and the elderly staff was very rude and mean to my kids. I was kind and tipped each staff member generously and they still treated us disrespectfully. We were accused of slowing down the pace of play, even though we waited on the two groups in front of us for every single shot. Plus the condition of the course is crap. Sad. I've played this course for years, but won't be coming back. The guy in the pro shop and the younger cart guys were the only pleasant people. So much for encouraging the youth to pick up the game. Don't drop a match or the place will go up in smoke... I am writing to express my extreme disappointment with the current state of the course. I played a round recently for my son's birthday, and the fairways were drier than any active course I have ever seen--it looked closer to a facility that had been closed down. While we didn't ask for a refund at the time because we wanted to honor the birthday celebration, a member of your cart staff informed us that a well is broken and may not be fixed for another 2-3 months. If the course is unable to maintain standard playing conditions due to infrastructure failure, that should be disclosed at the time of booking. Charging full rates for "worst-ever" conditions is not a sustainable way to treat your regulars. I'd like to know what the plan is for service recovery for those of us who paid for a premium experience and received a "broken" one. read more

Had a pre-tee good experience at Toka Sticks Golf Course! Hubs and I are always looking for affordable golf courses, and we were glad Toka Sticks met our budget. We tried booking a tee time online, but kept running into an error, so we decided to take a chance and show up in person. Fortunately, we were able to secure a tee time and even had some time to warm up at the driving range. It was a scorching summer day, so we only managed about 15 minutes there before heading back to our cart to wait in line for our turn. Every staff member we interacted with was friendly and helpful. The course was beautiful and the greens were well maintained. We had no one in front of us, but there was a foursome behind. A strong haboob passed by in the middle of our game and we took shelter behind one of the buildings for a few minutes. The haboob must have scared most people away because after it passed, the course was practically empty. Though we enjoyed the course, it was a bit challenging to navigate. We felt like we were zigzagging and almost teed off in the wrong direction a few times because of how the course is designed. However, for the great price and service, we will definitely return! read more

What a joke! Played at 4:20. Pro shop said have the cart back by 6:30. At 6 pm all of the flags were picked so I only got to play for an hour and half . I asked the guy why he was picking up flags so early, plenty of day light for 30 more min. He said" I dunno" I called the next day to let them know I only got to play an hour and a half. " manager" said..... "There is nothing we can do" really like a rain check? Nope you're " lucky " you got 7 holes in ! What?? I won't be going back ever again! Marshall is a joke and tried to rush my group after we teed off early and stated we are moving too slow, when we paced 4hrs. Even going as far as saying he will force us to speed up which when we responded, he realized he couldn't, so he drove away. Guy at the front desk is flat out an asshole, course is not worth the terrible customer you receive. Cart girl, has the worst attitude, forgot to give us what we paid for and was upset when we made her turn around to give us our snack. Not to mention the driving range is in pitiful condition. Wife and myself did a little staycation at the Marriott. So, since it was off the Toka Sticks Golf Course, I had to bring my clubs. Everyone were very nice. Got out there on time, and was finished under three hours. Greens were a little slow, and some had some disease. with some of the spots were dying. Other then that, the course was in great shape. I didn't really expect much, and was surprised at how fun the course was. Course is pretty much flat, and will need to pick and choose your spots to use your driver. Some waster hazards, and bunkers. Try to keep your ball on the fairways. The rough is cut high, easy to lose your ball. Would diffidently come back, had a great time. read more

Toka Sticks Golf Course underwent a face lift and renovation a few years back. Located on the Arizona State University Polytechnic campus in east Mesa, this course is a great bargain and a wonderful course to play in the far East Valley. Toka Sticks is about 35 minutes east of downtown Phoenix and easily accessible from the 202 and US 60 freeways. This course is a flat, fast playing course with mature trees, good bunker placement, greens in pretty good condition and a few Risk and Reward holes that will test your skill level. Again, I found a pretty good on line deal for the weekend and really enjoyed playing here. As past tournament director for the ASU Memorial Union Open tournament, I have dealt with the staff and restaurant. They are courteous, skilled and very helpful. Check out the photos. The course is well manicured and a nice course, however, the pace of play is extremely very slow. They have each set of golfers spaced too close together and no ranger to enforce the pace of play. So if you like to sit and wait on every single shot then this is the course for you. WAIT, WAIT AND WAIT SOME MORE!!! Update.....After the first 9 holes which took 2 1/2 HRS we were so frustrated that we gave up. Our options from the stand in manager were to play the front 9 again or come back another day. But we were so frustrated from waiting around so much and we did not want to be playing until 6:30 pm when it would be dark, and we did not want to come back another day asking for the same frustration. I have played Toka Sticks a few times in years past and it was reasonable value. When I played it yesterday I was disappointed in a couple of things. 1. The washrooms were disgraceful, both in the clubhouse and on course. The stench in the clubhouse (mens) washroom is terrible. The on course washroom appeared to have overflowing toilets/urinals. The floor was covered in liquid. The other issue was the pace of play. It was crazy slow. I will not go back soon and would not recommend it. read more

It's never too early to golf, no matter how much you drank the night before. Nothing stopped us from having our balls teed up at Toka Sticks and ready to go for our 6:30 tee time on a March Sunday morning. Being the second group to go off, we finished our round in a shade under three hours beating the heat and giving us some extra time to relax before the next Cactus League game. Our experience was A-OK with no major issues with the employees, the facilities, and the course. We weren't greeted at bag drop-off and waited about 5 minutes in the pro shop before someone checked us in and gave us our receipt for our $55/person round. After about a ten minute warm up on the driving range, balls were flying right at our tee time. With no major hang ups on any of the holes we flew through the course which was for the most part well groomed and very open. I'm not good enough to say any course is easy, but from the middle tees, the course plays 6400 yards and with a slope rating of 116, us bogey golfers' target should be right at 90. You should aim for a low score because there's not much trouble on the course at all. Aside from the holes on the boundaries of the course and the four holes bordering water, you can hit the ball anywhere and still have a shot. Even with me blocking a couple drives a fairway over, getting there in regulation still wasn't out of the realm of possibilities. Other than the front having three par 3's and three par 5's, there's not much that is unique about the course. All of the holes seemed kind of the same and not one hole really stuck out. When we finished, no one greeted us, so clean your own clubs. If you're scratch, you'll probably scoff at this course. This track is better suited for hacks like me, but we only played here because it was convenient to our hotel. Lack of availability at other courses is the only other reasons I see myself retruning to this course which really isn't convenient to anything. read more

Course is in terrible shape. Most greens have at least 20 dead spots. Some are even filled with patches. There are puddles of water in some areas and dry as a bone in others. Watch your footing in the higher grass as there are so many holes you'll twist your ankle. But my favorite part is while playing 8am to noon, there were maintenance crews with mowers, weed wackers, and blowers on nearly every hole. In some cases directly in front of you. Interesting Course being overwatered to the point it affects the fun of playing. Balls had to be lift cleaned and replaced. The greens had puddles of mud around them. The bunkers had standing water and the sand was like concrete. The course has an interesting design. Mostly flat. Few lips on bunkers so they gain interest by going left and right around trees. You have to play to certain spots and distances. Unfortunately there's no markers on the course. Not on sprinkler heads (we found 1 all day), no stakes, nothing on cart path etc. The 9th hole/old 18th hole is a joke. The second shot from middle of fairway is better played to the driving range. The fairway pinches in with trees that give a visual of a wall. Fortunately their were no white stakes on the driving range, but it was a swamp. Greens were fast, small and challenging to read. You see lots of green with all the water being put on the course, but need to trim some trees. They've matured to the point of interfering with play. Solid track with very competitive prices especially during peak season. Not overly challenging but some fun, challenging shots. Trees lining most fairways make it important to be accurate off the tee or you might find yourself in jail. Clubhouse staff including the restaurant staff were friendly and inviting. Went to play and the afternoon rate was $62. The online price was only $39. Mark in the pro shop wouldn't give me the $39 rate and was extremely inflexible. Tried to get a later time at the reduced rate and he said the tee sheet was full despite the outside service guys saying there were open times. $62 was a steep price to pay for a course in poor condition. Terrible experience there today. We teed off this morning and there was no group in front of us. There was a group on hole 3 or 4 but nobody directly in front. On hole 8, the Marshall (or whatever this dudes job is) came in like a bat out of hell. Not saying "hey guys how's it going?". Rather, he said "you guys have a 2 hole gap between you and the group ahead of you. You NEED to speed up". My response: "there wasn't a group ahead of us to start and we haven't seen a single group behind us". Him: "well your pace of play is really slow and it's super congested behind you". Mind you, we were an hour and 20min into our round with a 4some and almost finished with the front 9. This is extremely fast pace of play and this Marshall came in and tried to assert his weak dominance. We had not seen a group behind us since hole 2. We couldn't stop talking about this dude for the rest of the round and we were hoping he'd come back to push us more so we could tell him how ridiculous he sounded and so I could get his name for this review. He ruined our round completely and will not be back until they fix this somehow. One of the starters (the young guy) also looked mad that we were there and since this is the first face you see on the course, it was not a pleasant start and then it obviously just got worse with this random worker coming out rudely talking to us like we've never played golf before. I shot a 74 and played 18 holes with 4 guys today in 3 hours and 45min. Pace of play was not the issue, his attitude was. The course was decent for the price, but some of the workers were NOT at all. On the bright side, the beverage cart lady was excellent and very nice/talkative. I would rather golf at other places that are more welcoming though. Won't be back on any Friday for sure. Golfed here last Saturday. It rained for over 45 minutes and there was standing water on every green. The gentlemen in the pro shop was short and impatient and refused to offer rain checks. He said it was up to the club pro who was not on the premises. Finally a patron suggested to at least take down our names to which several of us, at least 15, put our names down on a list. Toka Sticks was recommended by people we played with at a course in Queen Creek. The course was in decent shape and I enjoyed the layout. There are no yard markers or ball washers at the tee boxes. There are no 200, 150 or 100 yard markers on the holes or on the cart paths. There was no drinking water on the course. We saw the beverage cart one time on the front 9 and not at all on the back 9. read more

Play here regularly and a member of the men's club at the course. The pro (John) is awesome and the staff is very friendly. The course itself is ok to good status. Like most courses it has its ups and downs. In the summer before seeding greens can be bumpy and patchy, in the winter I find it to be one of the best values and conditions out there. Keep in mind you get what you pay for. Here I think you get a little bit more than what the normal fee is. Enjoy your round and have a blast!! read more

I have scored good here, I have also scored bad here, if you are hitting the ball well you will probably have a good time at this golf course. If you are not hitting the ball well chances are you will want to leave a bad review about this place because of all the little things that made you around crap. However, what you should be thinking about is that the reason why you're around was crap was because you have a practice nearly as much is what you told yourself you were going to do. How can you expect to actually have a good round had a mediocre golf course if you're not practicing like you should be? Are you stupid? Is this golf course stupid? No. Am I stupid for playing this golf course? No. What I am stupid for is attempting to think that I am going to accelerate at the game of golf. Just when you think you had it, it knocks you right back on your tush he. Thank you taco sticks for keeping this course in the best condition you can during the hot summer months of Arizona and how shitty it feels when you step outside your house and you feel like you step inside of an oven. Really liked this golf course. It's very well maintained and very forgiving. Usually, any errant tee shots wind up on another fairway and are still playable. My only complaint is that there are no yardage markers. No 150 yd stick in the fairway, no markers on the fairway, nothing. So you'll need a rangefinder or a GPS app to know the yardage of your approach shots. The greens and fairways are really nice, and they do have a beverage cart driving the course in case you get thirsty. Fun course overall. Would love to play it again. read more

My nephew and I golfed there a couple of weeks ago and it was without the most frustrating round of golf I have ever played. We had a 3-some in front of us that was super slow and couldn't drive the ball over 120 yards. And each of them tee's the ball up 2 or 3 times on most holes. And what bothered me more than that was not a single ranger or employee drove the course so we could complain about how they were holding us and the 3-4 groups behind us up.
