We used to come here a lot, and it is like every time we come in the women who works there knows we are into corals and really up charges us. Like we are talking twice the amount of any shop around or online for the exact same coral. She thinks can she can milk her customers which is why no reefers regularly shop at this place. My boyfriend I are complete newbies when it comes to keeping a reef tank. I'm talking about maybe 20 YT videos deep. When you first start off, research can get overwhelming. I prefer to talk to someone in person with experience. I went to, pretty much, all the specialty fish stores in the valley to seek out someone who was knowledgeable that would take the time to educate me. Hong and Nhu from Deep Blue Aquarium are, hands down, the most patient people I have spoken to. They know their shit, too! You can tell they really care about their store and giving their customers the right type of information as well as giving suggestions on what to look for if we decided to make purchases at another place. Wow! We followed their advice and now have a nice setup free from new tank syndrome. We got three designer clownfish from them and they are all doing extremely well. They make starting the hobby really easy and fun. Hong gave us great advice and offered information, I didn't even think about. He's not like the other people I have talked to that care more about the money in their wallet than the success of your tank. Very heartwarming. Their store is carefully look after and maintained. Great prices on frags and fish. You won't find any other people who take the time to talk to you as much as they do about the how-to's and why's of keeping a successful, quality reef tank. This place is great for us selection however the lady who owns the place with her brother, changes get prices based on how she's feeling everytime I go in there the prices are different for example I went in there and asked about a coral and a fish and she had said the coral was 50 and the fish 45 I got something else but went back for then it was 80 for the coral and 75 for the fish and that happens everytime and it's usually was over priced for anything. read more

Having moved from the Westside to Hollywood, I was looking for a LPS to meet all my reef needs. I saw Deep Blue Aquarium on Yelp and had to check them out. So glad I did - Hong and his sister are very nice, extremely knowledgeable and have one of the biggest varieties of SPS and LPS corals I've seen in LA. The tanks are always stocked with very reasonable corals (from frags to mature colonies). If you're looking for a deal, check out the fish in a bag sale on Sunday. They have price breaks for buying multiples of 3 and 5 - great for beefing up your collection! A lot of potential but unfortunately the business seems to be going down hill. Hair algae in majority of the tanks and majority of the coral are bleaching. To top it off most of the corals I inquired about weren't even for sale? Prices are over the top! For example a orange/pink hammer was going for 300/head!!!! Don't get me wrong I would love to support small business owners but how can you when prices are much cheaper online and or from local hobbyist. It seemed like they truly don't care for business or their coral. They need put some effort into customer service as well. This place is probably more of a service company then a retail shop. My mother and I have been going to every aquarium store we can find within the past two months. We have always loved freshwater fish and finally decided to give a saltwater tank a try. Out of all the stores we have been to, this one is by far the best! The lady running the store, Nu was extremely nice and patient with ALL of me and my moms questions. (We literally asked 200) We learned so much from her and you can tell this business truly cares about their customers and not just making money off you. All of their fish and corals are beautiful and well taken care of. We will be coming back to get our clownfish from here once our tank is fully cycled. It was so worth the drive up from Culver City! I discovered this place after going to Reef-A-Palooza and seeing some of their corals. Don't let the outside of the shop fool you it may be small but it's super packed of healthy corals. He has a diverse selection that is just BEAUTIFUL. Sometimes there are three generations of the Lam family plus the friendly pooch tending shop! A very rare thing in business nowadays. His prices ave very fain in both livestock and dry goods and Hong will usually match or beat competitors prices equipment and lights. There will always be the one customer that expects more than what is fair, but after numerous visits to this shop I have never been disappointed! Decided to check this place out instead of where i usually go. Very good place. They have TONS of anemones that are grown in store just like all of the corals. I needed some help on a problem in my tank and the owner was very helpful and let me know what to do. Small place but there is alot to it, i find it cool that they have mangroves because not too many places have them around here. They also have designer clowns straight from sea and reef and high quality dry good. 10/10 read more
