Majorly disappointed in the Poke. Recently, we ordered pickup from Tokyo Express for the very 1st time for 2 poke bowls. Honestly, we thought we were getting a steal with their amazingly fair pricing of $10.50 for 2 scoops of protein and unlimited toppings. Where can you seriously find that inexpensive of a poke bowl anymore in 2024????? It was just too good to be true. I had never seen Tokyo Express in person, in passing and barely looked at the Yelp photos. BIG FREAKIN' MISTAKE. I arrived for my pickup order to what I can describe as nothing more than a "bootleg" Americanized Chinese restaurant masquerading as a Japanese takeout establishment. As I watched the staff make our poke, I observed where the fish were stored and I immediately thought to myself "What was I thinking???????" as I stared at the questionable refrigerator. In addition, as the employee was assembling our poke, he was hovering very closely over it as he put it together and was inexplicably chatting away about 2 inches from the surface of the food. In the words of John McEnroe, "You cannot be serious?!?!?!?" OK, so how was the food you ask? Do you want to go there? First, the good. It ACTUALLY LOOKED GOOD! The guy who assembled it did a great job of neatly putting it together, but it all went downhill from there. The sushi rice? NOT sushi rice. It was just regular white rice, so immediately they took a major hit there in my eyes. As for the fish and rest of it, it didn't taste that bad, but I couldn't get over my entire experience as I waited for our poke bowls to be made. Everything just didn't taste as good as it could have been if I never walked in. NOW, they do serve other food of course, specifically hibachi style food and it looked pretty decent as the worker was cooking it, but I don't think I can bring myself to come back for anything here after looking into the kitchen. Also, the neighborhood wasn't the greatest and sketchy person after sketchy person walked in, so that's that for us. Onto the next poke spot. read more

Sushi roll platter was fresh, tasty, and a good value. Bento boxes have a nice selection and are a good value. The hibachi chicken and teriyaki chicken are the same chicken, just different sides. I'll go with the bento box for more variety. I'll be ordering yet again! read more

Passed this establishment many times off of Market Street in Elmwood Park and today I stopped in for a lunch takeout. I ordered their White Meat Chicken Teriyaki Hibachi which came with steamed vegetables and opted for brown rice over white or fried. The portion was enough for 2 people and was still hot by the time I started eating. The grilled chicken, steamed vegetables and even the brown rice were tasty. However, I ordered the meal with teriyaki and the sauce that accompanied the meal didn't look or taste. I've ordered from different places and know, taste and see what the real dish looks like. This was almost a sweet and sour mixed with some brown sauce. With that in mind, I can't recommend this place for chicken teriyaki, but willing to try others. read more

The food is delicious! I've ordered several times with different dishes every time. Seaweed salad, gyoza, shumai for appetizers; eel avocado, spicy yellowtail rolls are fresh and decent sized. I love the food from this place but I'm not ordering directly from the restaurant ever again, the delivery driver is extremely rude, in 2 different times that I ordered the guy tried to take the whole money without giving my change back, he don't even let me offer a tip, he took the money claiming it was his tip and when I asked for my change back he was really rude; he laughed in my face and called me cheap, that is unacceptable, I'm a regular costumer from that place and that situation has happened twice with the same person, the first time I led it slide cause I thought it was because of the language barrier and there was a misunderstanding about the change but the second time this Asian delivery guy was extremely rude, I'd rather order thru uber or doordash and tip a driver who actually provides a good service and don't treat me in that way, really disappointed with the service. read more

I was craving ramen so I came to yelp to find a local place. After reviewing the Tokyo Express menu, we decided to give this place a shot. My husband went to the restaurant to order and take out. He said that they have plastic up and use a speaker, but the speaker is always on. The cooks in the back were yelling at each other, so the woman trying to take his order couldn't hear and kept asking him to repeat himself. He said the service could have been better, but the food didn't take long. I got the Tokyo Ramen and my husband got a chicken & beef bento box. My ramen was delicious and cured my hangover. Great portion of pork and noodles. My husband didn't love their fried rice, but said his bento box was "ok". I'm definitely going to try other nearby places, but it's good to know this is a place to get a decent bowl of ramen. read more

Glad this opened up near my area. I got the sake don ( salmon sashimi over rice). The rice comes with seafood flake seasoning which is unique. The salmon is overall pretty fresh. Not the best but still pretty good. I love that the portion size is decent and the fish was nicely prepared. The salad dressing is amazing and comes with romaine lettuce rather than your typical iceberg lettuce. Place is clean and quiet. They have cash payment option where they take 15% off which is nice. Overall, a great place with a great price. Will be coming back. Update: this place is very inconsistent - one day I'm getting fresh large pieces, other days I'm getting half the portions that are dull in color. Who would've thought this new take out joint would be SO good?? My husband received a flyer at work and suggested we should try it one day. The food was a Japanese restaurant take out but it did not disappoint. I ordered this meal with tofu, rice, and veggies and the the entire meal was delicious! I wasn't expecting it to be this good since it's a take our place, but their food quality is amazing! Unlike most take out places, the person on the phone was really nice. She said 'thank you' and didn't rush me to get through my order. Anyway, I'm a little obsessed with the sauce that came with the tofu. It's this thick brown sauce that was sweet and savory! The tofu was a little deep fried and cooked so well and you knew it was fresh. The menu here offers bento boxes, rice bowls (which if I remember correctly, I ordered), and sushi. I haven't had their sushi because the place is more of a take out place, but after my meal I'm definitely willing to try it The only downside is and the reason I gave it only four stars is because they don't deliver!! I got the Chirashi, which was reasonably priced at 13 bucks for lunch with a salad. It was weird that they served it in a sushi to go dish and not a bowl. The usual amount of fish was given, with a whole lot of rice. I liked that they put bonito flakes on the rice to lend some flavor. The fish seemed of good quality. The sushi quality was poor. Rice tasted undercooked and rolls were falling apart. But the salmon in the philly roll was off. Maybe it was old, I don't know. The tuna roll didn't taste right either. So I took it back after having gotten delivery. Instead of just giving me my money back, the lady at the counter gave me $5! Ok I know we had eaten some, but we stopped after realizing it was bad. There was more than half left. It cost $15 and she wanted to give me $5. I guess they don't want any further business from me, not that I'm in a hurry to return. I certainly won't darken their door again! I argued about how much she gave me back and she passed on another $2. There are plenty of good sushi restaurants around so please don't waste your time or money here. I probably wouldn't have reviewed them except for the poor response to my returned sushi. Your delivery guy asked me to come down to pick up the food I ordered. Now there's a reason why I order for delivery at my work is busy I could get really busy. When he called me I was in the middle of a meeting and was caught off guard that he asked me to come down at the lobby. He wasn't even in the lobby. Finally got to check this place out! I was really confused on what my stomach wanted for lunch! but I smelled that hibachi aroma and decided shrimp hibachi with fried rice and veggies! Excellent sushi and a pretty decent variety. For certain things they could be a little pricey. But it's worth it! Customer service can be a little iffy depending on what time of day you come but the food makes up for it. Their house sauce is one of the best I've had.
