10/10 -- My New Go-To Sushi Spot! I've been on the hunt for a new go-to sushi place since moving to the area, and I've tried plenty of good spots nearby -- but this place absolutely blew me away. Hands down, the best sushi I've had in a long time (maybe ever!), and that's saying something. From the moment I called in my large order, the experience was seamless. The owner was incredibly kind, got everything 100% right, and made the process so easy. When I walked in, I was immediately struck by how clean and fresh everything smelled -- a great sign. They also offer boba (at a really fair price!) and have fun extras like seaweed snacks and unique chips -- super cute and convenient. But the star of the show is the food. Everything was incredibly fresh, flavorful, and beautifully made. I ordered for myself, my brother, and my mom after a long morning of errands, and we were all seriously impressed. I'm a huge miso soup fan -- I've tried it at nearly every spot in NJ -- and theirs is officially my favorite. Perfectly balanced and comforting. We had: - Sweet potato rolls, Shrimp California rolls - Spicy tuna, spicy crab, firecracker roll - Spicy yellowtail & regular yellowtail - Clear soup, miso soup, and udon soup Every single bite was fantastic. You can go a longgggg way without seeing a sushi restaurant in this neck of the woods so thank goodness for Maguro Sushi in New Rochelle. Honestly, the sushi is not anything to write home about, but if you need a sushi fix, Maguro should do the job. In 2022, everything seems like it is wayyyyyyyyy overpriced and sushi is one of those things. I'm coming from NYC and when sushi rolls hit $3 per roll at so-called "50% off" sushi restaurants, I lost my mind, but now it's at a whole different level. Here at Maguro, regular rolls range from $6.50 to $8.95 .... yes, you read that right. And, sadly, it's not much different elsewhere in NJ. Luckily, Maguro offers a lunch roll special menu on Mon-Sat from 11am-3pm where you can choose any 3 rolls for $14.95 or 2 rolls for $10.95. Doesn't seem like much of a steal, but, like I said, with inflation, IT IS! And, $5 a roll sounds like quite the deal, but, there is a caveat - The lunch roll specials are only limited to a few regular rolls - womp womp. We tried a few of the rolls (Spicy Crab, Spicy Tuna, Salmon Avocado, Spicy Salmon, Tuna Teriyaki, Crab Roll, Tuna Avocado and Salmon Teriyaki) the first time we ordered and, in my opinion, they were solid. Obviously, not the best sushi I ever had, but beggars cannot be choosers and, for me, it hit close enough to the spot. There isn't a whole lot that is special about Maguro. Not an insult in anyway. After getting a recommendation from a friend, I decided it was time to try this place. I called the order in for pickup rather than seamless (prices are JACKED up, $4 more per special roll!). It was an easy drive so definitely worth buying direct. The man who answered the phone chuckled at me ordering so many special rolls which I thought was funny. Upon arrival, parking was very easy (there is a lot that wraps around the back). They were busy at the time I called (7:15pm) and said 40-45 minutes which was accurate. The tiny takeout restaurant was chock full of Asian goodies you can pick up - a freezer full of mochi ice cream, pocky, kimchi, teas, snacks, sauces and so forth. They offered me another side dish to take for free, probably because I had bought so much food and it was nearing the end of the night. I grabbed the oshinko. Nice and bright shop with the chefs actively making sushi behind the counter and a register on the left. Everyone was so friendly and said hello/goodbye and I waved back and said my thanks. The bag of sushi was packed so nicely but it tipped over on the car ride home of course. Still managed to get decent pictures once things were rearranged. The rolls I ordered included 2 Hollywood, lucky star, lemon sky, lobster salad dynamite, and crab dynamite. I enjoyed all of them, so it is hard to choose a favorite. Several of them had onion crunch which I enjoy. The lemon sky has small pieces of cut lemon slice so just be aware you are eating lemon rind. It gave a nice zestiness but I would have preferred just lemon zest or juice rather than a chunk. All of the rolls were quite large and I had plenty leftover. The oshinko are pretty strong in flavor and on the salty side but I didnt hate it. Seaweed salad had a kick of spice and wasn't watery. Individual mochi ice creams were perfectly sweet and creamy with mild flavor. Overall, the prices were reasonable if you order direct and everyone is super nice here. This little corner spot you might just miss it but I can tell you the owner. She is bright light of sunshine. I believe she's Japanese and she will help you every needs and explain what is what and they have a cute little shop all around the store little tidbits from Asia like little tea, cups and chopsticks and little dolls, but the food and the sushi is amazing Made fresh to take out only I got the three Roll lunch special with a side of spicy mayo OMG I will go back. This is a hidden gem. Located in a shopping center right outside the Garden State mall area. It has an extensive menu. Anything you can imagine they make here at this Japanese and sushi place. They even make those juices with tapioca balls. They have a lunch menu which is worth the price for the food you are getting. Only bad part there is no seating. None! But the great food makes up for that one flaw. You will not be disappointed. Just don't come really hungry, because they have a big menu. Great small spot to pick up some sushi for dinner. We have been coming here multiple times on our way home from shopping. Getting sushi from most places is a hit or miss experience. I haven't ordered from here because they didn't offer delivery, but I found out today that they offer Grubhub. I ended up picking my order up though as I was at Whole Foods. The problem with Grubhub is that you pay more for the food. It seems like the surcharge is passed onto the customer so it's added to the food price. I think Grubhub takes about 20% from the restaurant's bill, so I can understand why some businesses opt to pass the cost. I got the spicy tuna roll and based on that I would give this place 4 stars. The tuna's color was light pinkish so I thought it wouldn't be spicy, but boy was I wrong. It had a major kick that I haven't gotten from most places. I also got a dragon roll and if I rated only based on this roll, I would give them only 2 stars. I could barely detect the eel. It has eel and cucumber and avocado inside and avocado outside. I felt like I was only eating rice and avocado. I will not order this roll next time. So I averaged the rating to 3. They are a bit generous on the rice, so I will ask them to go lighter on rice next time. I hope to give this place a try again, but I don't think I'll order through Grubhub though. read more

They are as legit as it gets. True Japanese chefs serving fresh sushi. If you want really special rolls like seared sushi for a hefty price, this is the place to go. Unfortunately, there are a lot of competitors that give high quality sushi as well at a cheaper price point that would not persuade me to frequent this restaurant. That being said, it doesn't detract from the fact that his place has high quality food. I've been looking for a good quality and quick sushi spot in the area. I ordered a California roll and eel roll. I usually wouldn't go for an eel roll my first time trying a new sushi spot, but I saw some pictures of it on yelp and it looked great! The sizes of each roll were good, not too small and not over stuffed. The avocado was perfectly ripe. Good quality eel pieces in each bite. Pretty good sushi. I tried the two rolls for lunch which - teriyaki salmon- the salmon was a little over cooked ... I honestly don't know why I got this one because I normally don't get cooked fish when I get sushi. I also tried the spicy salmon which was soooo good! This has been my go-to sushi place since I moved near this location last year. Even though it was overpriced, the quality was good then. But in recent months, the quality has been terrible. I received a tuna sashimi and spicy tuna roll that have GONE BAD. When I contacted the workers and went back again with the bad sushi and sashimi, they were unapologetic and blamed the customer. I'm from New York City which is home to some of the best sushi in the country and let me tell you, this place is right up there with those spots. The sushi was so fresh, the fish just melted in your mouth. We got the sushi for two which had three rolls: California, Spocy Crunch Tuna and Salmon Avocado. Ambiance/Decor/Atmosphere: A cute little sushi house that also incorporates a store within. This place is strictly take out, but you can buy little trinkets, chop sticks, plants, and desert products as well. Noise/sound level: Since it's take out only there is not much noise besides the chefs talking and the TV. Menu: Super painfully large, it takes days to make a selection. Service: Slightly rough, my wife's roll was messed up and they tried to force her to take it. Then it took a bit of time to make a new one, but they were swamped so that's slightly acceptable. I give this place 4 stars instead of 3 because although it isn't the best sushi place i have been to it is one of the best take out sushi places i have ever been to. There is not dine in option which usually turns me off completely. It is just like chinese take out. if that is how they are advertised i usually stay away. Last time we ordered a party platter over $160 for the family all the rolls fell apart, you couldn't even pick it up without the rolls falling apart. Anyway i called spoke with the owner a female heavy accent, she told me that she would give a full credit for the platter. I said how about just half since we order the same platter for years now, she agreed. I called today to place another order she told me it was too long and I should have come sooner. Ordered two party platters of rolls and a sashimi deluxe platter for a small gathering. Everything was so fresh and delicious. The person who took our order was super friendly and accommodating. She explained things clearly and it was just a pleasure to order from them.
