I was hangry and craving sushi on a late Saturday night. I decided to try out a new spot for a change, so I chose Oishi Sushi in Hasbrouck Heights. It's a small, casual restaurant located on a main street. The menu offers sushi rolls, sashimi, hibachi, teriyaki, ramen, udon, noodle soups, and various Japanese appetizers. I placed an order online for pick-up. I ordered the All Day Roll Special (any 3 rolls and soup, salad, or spring water for $14.50) and eel sushi (2 pieces for $5.50). Service was quick and everything was prepared within 10 minutes or less. To put it bluntly, it was below average sushi. I've had a lot of raw fish in my life and this didn't impress me. The salmon was mushy, dull in color, tasteless, and not spicy at all. The shrimp tempura batter was crispy, but the shrimp was bland. The roll had lettuce in it... never seen that before. Very odd. I wasn't a fan. They got the fish to rice ratio right for the rolls, but the rice was flavorless and not seasoned. The good? The eel sushi was delicious. Tender, flaky, fatty, slightly charred, and sweet. The unagi sauce was the perfect complement. The tuna also tasted pretty fresh. The miso soup was okay, but nothing to write home about. Maybe they had an off night? The prices aren't bad, but I'm not sure if the quality is all there. I'm not crossing this place off of my list completely, but I'm not tempted to come back either. read more

Wish the soup was served hotter. Ordered sushi deluxe and roll combo C. The amount was more than expected for two. The sushi was quite good but not as great as I expected for 4.2+ rating. My comparison is always with one in Ridge Wood, which is my 20+ year-favorite, so could be subjective. I would say it has less soul than the latter does. Food is really great here- I usually do way more takeout than dine-in, but the food is just as delicious when it's delivered. I love the Veggie Lover's roll (ask for it without the sauce to make it Vegan..otherwise it's perfect for Vegetarians, too). It's not wrapped in seaweed, which is the main reason I love it. Wrapped in rice paper and filled with rice, avocado, and sweet potato. The Veggie Ramen soup is really good, too (comes with a little dried seaweed which I pick out, but that'll add the seafood flavor if you like that flavor). The tempuras are great... deep fried but not at all oily. The food is always fresh and delicious. When dining in, it's a nice atmosphere- almost city-like. Only turn-off (for me) is the TV on the wall, but it's not a deal breaker. Clean restaurant, and service was great when we went. They are patient with food questions and know their answers right away. I wouldn't hesitate to go back to dine in! read more

This restaurant looks better in pictures than it actually is. It is a small space with a few tables and a small sushi bar. My Son and I sat at a table, visiting on 12/11/25. Overall it was disappointing. It is a BYOB; so we enjoyed our sake, but the food was just okay. I ordered lobster bisque (strange for a Japanese restaurant), softshell crab appetizer and 4 pieces of sushi. The crab was just okay and the sushi questionable. I couldn't eat the scallops because it didn't seem to be fresh. My Son had miso soup and a couple of rolls which he thought were okay. I love their special rolls here. I ordered 9 special rolls platter and was so disappointed when i opened the bag. On the platter were 2 kinds of rolls, sashimi, and sushi. Definitely not what I ordered. I also ordered a black milk tea with boba. They said it won't look black but more like brown (huh?) but when i got it it was orange actually mango drink which was not what i wanted. It was a very disappointing dinner. I absolutely LOVE oishi sushi. It's always delicious, and the service is quick. It's been my go-to sushi spot (prices are great) for about five years now. And their new location is amazing to dine in. It's spacious and well decorated. Their fried rice and ramen are also delicious (along with their sushi). My least favorite dish has actually been the hibachi steak (but that's probably because I was hoping it would taste more like it does at a hibachi place). This is definitely one of my go to spots when I want a good reliable meal. read more

This is my go-to sushi place for casual sushi or when friends come over. I am so happy this place is close to my house. Best bang for the buck by far compared to other takeout sushi places. You won't find better deals elsewhere...I've done my research. You get a lot for your money, and the quality is way better than the amount you're paying for. I've found the sushi quality here to be very very good considering this is a local sushi spot. Obviously you can't compare the sushi here to what you would get at a super fancy NYC sushi place, but if I had to compare, I would guess that you're probably getting 70-80% of the quality at 20% of the cost compared to a fine-dining sushi place. The staff is pretty efficient and they do a good job of having your order ready in the time they promise. Packaging is good and if you order a decent amount, they'll even throw in a few appetizers on the house. Well-deserving of 5 stars in my humble opinion! read more

Thought the sushi was good quality and was hesitate about having chicken on a roll but it ended up being amazing and the flavor was just right. There's an all day roll special, which I really appreciate. for $14, you can get three rolls and it comes with your choice of soup, salad, or water. My favorite was the salmon skin roll, which is really the only cooked roll in general that I like. Hubby got the Roll Combo D (house special roll, spicy tuna roll, salmon avocado roll). My boyfriend and I really enjoyed Oishi Sushi. The servers were very nice and attentive. We ordered Spider Appetizer which is the soft shell crab with ponzu sauce. Moved to the area recently and searching for a new sushi spot. This one looked new and the menu was very enticing, I wanted to order everything! Did online order and they called right away because shishito peppers were gone and asked if I would like to substitute. I went with seaweed salad. For apps we got crispy duck, blue crab fajita, and seaweed salad and they gave us complimentary edamame, possibly because they didn't have shishito peppers. Crispy duck wasn't really crispy after delivery but full of flavor, blue crab fajita is small but tasty, and the seaweed and edamame were just as expected. For the special rolls, I wasn't crazy about the rock n roll - seemed the least flavorful of the bunch. My favorite was the mango madness but I think I would have liked even more mango. The American dream and crazy tuna were both pretty good too. The roll size was generous and the rice nice and soft. They didn't skimp on the fish. Seemed like the shrimp tempura inside was a little over cooked, but the other fish was more melt in the mouth. I'm curious to keep trying other rolls to find my favorites, and maybe snag some shishito peppers next time! read more

After my recent go to spot closed I decided to try Oishi. This review comes after trying it for take out 2x. The space itself looks great to dine in but since I haven't I can't speak on the experience. As for the food, it was delicious and hit the spot. I ordered Boston and shrimp tempura rolls with their veggie rolls. All very tasty and well presented. The employees are so kind on the phone and when you go in that it definitely makes you feel great about supporting their business. Pricing is fair imo and for the overall quality I will continue ordering here and hopefully dine in person soon. read more

disclaimer, i have only ever eaten taken out from here. the take out is always on point, they package everything well and i love that the udon noodles come separated from the soup so they don't get all soft. delivery is always prompt and quick. sushi quality is pretty good and the hot food all tastes great. i like the blue crab fajita, the tokyo chicken, teri chicken, and katsu chicken. the sushi apps are also good, yellow tail crudo, tuna tataki, and sashimi. i love that the rolls don't have too much rice either, good ratio. read more

The sushi was uninspired, mediocre and in one instance made me wonder if it was fresh (the spicy tuna seemed ever so slightly off). The overall experience was underwhelming. The potsticker appetizer and the miso were fine- though both hard to mess up. The decor I found unappealing, but for the interesting pictures of Japanese restaurants at night. It felt like the images were the only authentic part of my experience. I hope you will have a better one. read more

I went to Oishi Sushi with my friend for a meal. The first impression of the place was elegance and looked expensive. To my surprise, the menu was very affordable. I got there at 3:50 ish so kinda missed the lunch option which seemed very appealing that they offer until 4:00 pm. The hosts were very polite and warm. We ordered the all day roll (3 rolls) with miso soup , gyoza and edamame. The food service was very fast and the host kept checking on us to make sure we had what we needed. It was a very nice setting where you can hang with a friend and have a nice conversation. The indoor looked very nice and the chairs were comfortable as well.
