    Pork Katsu Curry

Delicious Japanese style curry! First time enjoying it. Ben said it did remind him of curry he had in Tokyo while living there. Nice cozy spot , great service.

Small Matcha Latte - was not filled to the top

First time visitor Located in a small business park / open and potential limited parking pending time of day Indoor dining only / one main room maybe 15 to 20 people pending party size. Different art on the wall to feel like being in Japan? Even I think a transportation map and photo of the city center One server for the main room who was helpful and kind in answering questions, taking orders, and serving Take out also an option Appears to have both omelet udon and rice options along with sides Loud environment it can be but definetly a easy spot to chatter or just keep to self. Family friendly, large portions shareable, date night, group outing like 2-3 maybe 4 pending how many tables are available Toast rewards available at this location Matcha latte $5 not overpowering smooth and nice floral end taste Curry comes in regular or large, regular spicy (mild essentially) or non spicy and there is also 2 types of powders (chili and essence) available too The Katsu (pork and chicken) was freshly fried, crunch, not too thick of a crust, juicy, and upheld when dipped in the curry. Curry was not overly spicy, had a nice tough of heat that potentially increased with the power Vegetables were not just boiled and thrown in but very tender and picked up flavor of the curry Did not seem overly salty Very tasty would certainly return to try other dishes. Even with eating the entire plate did not feel overly stuffed

Cozy restaurant that serves warm katsu curry that giving you the home-made atmosphere. Came on a weekend afternoon and there was no wait. They had comfy booth seating and our waitress was very attentive. Parking: Located in a medium sized plaza. Parking was easy to find inside the plaza & there is reserved restaurant parking in the front of the store For the meal Combo #5 Chicken Katsu with mixed vegetables The katsu was crispy. I ordered a Spicy Curry, the spice level was comparable to a mild level of heat. The curry itself had a deep umami flavor and not a typical chunky thick curry. But a thinner consistency. This made the dish comparable feel "homemade", and easy to clear the entire plate. Veggies were nothing entirely too special. Toppings included green beans, white potato, sliced carrots, and some wedges of onion. I'd probably ordered the omelette with it or cheese instead next time. Chicken Katsu Large sized portion The large sized portion was plus for me. Katsu again was cooked well. If you want additional spice there is a spicy powder at the table. The portion for me was well worth it as most curry spots around the area only offer one size or the option to increase rice/add additional meat for lots more $$$! This was a great value. Also if you're a big pickled radish fan, you can find it already placed for you on the plate! Overall great experience, I would visit again!

I love getting pork katsu curry from Tokyo Katsu Curry whenever I'm in the area. They are less generic and commercialized unlike Coco Ichibanya or Kagura. Parking is free right outside the shop. Service is efficient. You can get your order as to-go or for dine-in. I just wish they'd stop using styrofoam containers for takeaways. The inside of the restaurant is snug. Kinda gives you the literal Tokyo shokudo feel in a shitamachi-setting. #iykyk The food itself is pretty consistent in quality. The katsu is very thick and juicy. I used to prefer the ones from Kagura down the street but this spot is just as good. Their pricing is comparable. Just less fancy feeling if you are dining in. One item I really really really wish they offered is katsudon. But I understand it's a curry place!!

    Chicken Karaage (5pc)

To me this place was just OK. The gyoza was ok but not as good as a lot of places. The karaage wasn't crispy enough probably because the chicken was way undercooked as in raw at the center. The pork katsu and curry were average. I didn't dislike the food but I can't say it excited me or made me look forward to returning. It's a small place with only about 20 seats. The place was pretty full right after opening and the one waitress kept up with things fine.

We came right when it opened, so there was no wait. This is a small restaurant with limited seating; very true of restaurants in Japan. Because of this, I like the vibe! Our server was prompt and friendly. The Chicken Katsu Curry was delicious. The katsu breading was light not thick like others. It was also a generous portion. My husband liked his Sukiyaki Beef Curry. The curry in both our dishes were flavorful. I love matcha so I had to try theirs. It didnt disappoint. We will definitely come back to try the other dishes.

Omelet Chicken Katsu Curry with potato croquette

Cozy spot for Japanese curry. Not too many tables so it can get pretty crowded. Service was fairly quick even though there was only one server. Got the omelette with chicken katsu and added in potato croquette. The chicken katsu was good, it was crispy, not overly oily, and the chicken was still tender. The potato croquette was okay, nothing special. The curry sauce was good but sweeter than other curry I've had.

    Chicken Katsu Omelette Curry
    Anna W.

It's a small interior that gives off the vibe of those cozy Japanese spots where people come in, eat, and head out. The service is good and somewhat quick. I got the chicken cutlet omelette curry and the pork cutlet omelette curry both were really good. Honestly, I think it's even better than Coco Ichibanya in my opinion. The portions are big and delicious!

Although the shop is quaint, it's a lovely hideaway spot. Full of flavorful dishes. Associates help with dietary issues (I'm spice intolerant). Any additional concerns, the team was really helpful when I was undecided on which to select.

Omelet Pork Curry (regular $18.95) and two shrimp ($1.90/each) Thimble sized sauce container and no utensils for take out
    Joe P.

Its Mediocre Mon again I got a take out order bc The Huddle bar a few doors down does not serve food. I ordered the omelet pork tonkatsu curry and two katsu shrimp. The entree was a good size portion. The pork was tender and the batter was nice on the outside. Secondarily, the omelet was good sized and seasoned nicely. Lastly, the side order of shrimp was GBD, and reasonably priced. However, the major fail w/ the food is that I was given a thimble sized container of sauce, and it wasn't full. While I was waiting, I read that this place touts its sauce on the menu and wall. I was expecting the sauce to be on the omelet, or to have a decent sized container. I couldn't taste the quality of the sauce w/ such a ridiculously small portion! Regarding the ambiance, this place is tiny and narrow. There are only 4 tables that were mostly full. I was the only one sitting at the chairs against the wall and it felt packed. The guy at the front was nice, and the food came out quickly. Nonetheless, another major fail is that I was not given utensils or napkins! Luckily my friends had some in their car. The only reasons that this is not a Two Star 2uesday is that the food was good, the portions were large and the food came out quickly. I doubt I would return tho bc of the major fails.

Came on a rainy busy Friday night and Ordered the spicy chicken katsu curry. The waiter reassured me that the spicy is actually not that spicy at all and that is very true. Even the spicy was on the sweet side. Sweet Japanese curry is not my favorite style, but I will say their blend of sweet with a hint of spice is better than most restaurants I have tried and I did enjoy it.

Top: pork katsu. Right: chicken katsu. Bottom: chicken karaage udon
    Angela C.

The curry here is delicious! The flavor is a nice balance without being too overwhelming. The protein portions are great too! We got the chicken katsu, pork katsu and the chicken karaage udon. The udon came with a hefty portion of karaage so it definitely felt like you get your money's worth. Service was a little disappointing as they were quite slow. There was only one person working the tables, taking orders and cleaning up. So we had to wait quite some time to even input our order, and then waited a while more for the food to finally come out. Ambiance was nice, small intimate setting but it also means not too many seats. Be prepared to wait if you're coming at a busy time!

    Ernest F.

Delicious curry rice. Super tasty and authentic. Service is always excellent. Place is small so tables of 2 are best; wouldn't try to come here with a group of 7. Parking is decent...can be more difficult during prime times.

Tokyo Katsu Curry Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Tokyo Katsu Curry

Is there meat in the base of your curry sauce? If so, what is it (does it contain pork?)

There is meat in the curry sauce so this is not truly vegan or vegetarian.

Is the chicken katsu made with white (breast) meat?

I have not had the chicken katsu there as yet. But typically it is made from chicken breast which is pounded and prepared.

    Is the veggie curry vegan?

Hello there, our curry dishes are not vegetarian as they contain meat broth in the curry sauce. Unfortunately our dishes are not vegan/vegetarian. We appreciate your interest in our menu!

Sadly, our first adventure to Gyutan Tsukasa ended up being a little underwhelming, but no matter - it's not like that one meal was indicative of how the others would go. Plus, just about every place here looked too good to resist! So, next up on the list, based on all of the positive reviews from Yelp friends, as well as the display case full of plastic models of their food - Miyabi-Tei! Compared to some of their neighbors, several of whom are centered around specific offerings (beef tongue, udon/tempura, ramen, etc.), Miyabi-Tei is more like your neighborhood Japanese restaurant that offers a little of everything (save for sushi rolls). Among their menu offerings, you'll find soba noodles, tempura, donburi options, katsu curry rice plates, hamburg steak, a variety of bento box options, and even a slate of rotating daily specials. -- SALT-GRILLED MACKEREL PLATE with Miso Soup, Potato Salad, and Rice Other than how I wish the piece of mackerel had been larger, this was great! The mackerel was moist, super flavorful, and not overly salty. I also thought the potato salad was pretty good while the rice and miso soup were perfectly fine. -- TEMPURA BOWL with Braised Pork, Miso Soup, and Salad Ordered this as a Tempura Bowl, but told them we didn't need the rice. All in all, the tempura was pretty solid - each piece was crispy and I liked that it came with a good variety of tempura. That said, the Braised Pork was the star - super tender and straight up DELICIOUS! -- EEL EGG BOWL (Unadon) Maybe it's because I haven't had this in ages, but I thought this was terrific! The unagi was meaty and flavorful while the egg was still a bit wet (which was great). I also loved how the rice wasn't overcooked and that the cut of unagi was decently sizable. While all three dishes that we ordered were pretty good, I'll admit that they aren't all that unique/special. So, in that regard, nothing that we had at Miyabi-Tei is worth writing home about. However, for what it is and where/what they are (an eatery at a market food court), you really can't go wrong with coming here. With so many different entrees to choose from, there's a good chance you'll find something to satisfy whatever craving you might have and at reasonably budget friendly prices at that! THREE AND A HALF STARS rounded up.

I've tried ox tongue at a few different restaurants and also even in Japan, but the one here at Tsukasa is most definitely different than the ones I have had at other restaurants in the U.S. The charcoal grilled ox tongue pieces were very thick, and of very good quality. They were easy to bite and chew, which is a huge plus in our books. Yes, the meal is simple, but sometimes a simple meal is the hardest to prepare. The soup was not oily at all and there were plenty of green onions and the oxtail pieces were so soft. Everything was fresh and delicious, from the main entree to the rice and the veggies, and not overly greasy in any way. Yes, the price is higher than others in the food court, but there is a reason why it is also one of the busiest.

When I got back to work in Santa Ana and opened my bag around 2:30 p.m., my ramen had NO NOODLES. It was literally just broth and toppings. I called the restaurant expecting a simple apology and a reasonable solution. Instead, the manager would not even speak to me directly and chose to communicate through a waiter the entire time, which made the situation even more frustrating. We went back and forth multiple times with the waiter acting as the middleman. First, they told me I could come back and pick up the missing noodles. That was not realistic. I was already back at work, and it takes me about 25 minutes to get from Fountain Valley to Santa Ana. Driving all the way back for a side of noodles made no sense. So I asked for what seemed like the easiest and most reasonable solution: a complimentary bowl of ramen on my next visit. Instead, I was told no, but they could give me "extra noodles" next time. Extra noodles next time? What exactly was that supposed to do for me when I was sitting there hungry with no actual ramen to eat that day? Then the manager, again through the waiter, said she would personally drive noodles to my job. I even told them that did not make sense because by the time she got there, it would be around 4:30 p.m. At that point, my lunch break would be long over, the ramen would be cold, and all of it would be a waste of my time, her time, restaurant resources, and gas. But I agreed, because at that point it was obvious they really did not want to simply offer me a free bowl of ramen on my next visit. And to be clear, I was not asking for some huge free meal. I was asking to be compensated for the ramen I already paid good money for and did not even receive correctly. For how expensive ramen is, that should not have been a difficult ask. About 10 minutes later, the waiter called back and said the manager would give me a free bowl of ramen next time I came in, which was the exact solution I had suggested from the start. I can only assume she realized how far the drive was and how unnecessary and impractical that solution would have been. Mistakes happen. Forgetting the noodles was one thing. But the way this was handled was unnecessarily difficult, inconvenient, and honestly kind of absurd. I did not ask for a refund. I was looking for an apology and some common-sense customer service. Instead, I got a lot of back-and-forth and a manager who would not even speak to me directly. Kudos to the waiter for doing their best to mediate the situation. Even they thought the situation could of been handled differently by the manager. Very disappointing experience. I will not be returning, and I would not recommend this place to others based on how this situation was handled.

Randomly decided to try this place with the wife last night…read more I remembered there being a spot called mogu mogu here prior and confirmed with the waitress that it's the same menu! Spicy miso ramen: 9/10 Actually one of the better ramens I've had lately. The broth is creamier and isn't overpowering with chicken/beef flavor. The chashu was nice and tender as well. I really liked that their noodles were al dente and not too soft Deluxe mazemen: 8/10 Taking my first bite, I was instantly greeted with an explosion of umami. There's a LOT of flavor packed in this bowl and the noodles used are actually a bit thicker which is right up my alley. My only drawback on this dish was that I wished it came with some sort of veggies to cut through all the flavor. They also give you a small serving of rice at the end for you to mix into the bottom which was a nice addition Kurobota sausage: 7.5/10 We've recently been on a kurobota craze. Don't get me wrong, these were great but we've only had them charred and grilled before so I was taken aback when I saw that these were only steamed. Flavor was spot on but I'm a sucker for a nice char or crisp to my meat Overall, loved the service and small restaurant vibe of this spot. We were seated very quickly and the food came out even faster. Definitely come try this spot, I know we'll be back

Never had Mazemen before which is basically broth-less ramen with various of toppings. We were on…read morethe way to Kitakata, but after finding this place on Yelp, we had to check out the hype. The interior is cozy and small with authentic Japanese decorations/setup. Kinda felt like we were eating in Kyoto or something, lol. The lady who served us was friendly and gave us good recommendations. I think she was handling the whole operation to be honest. To start it off, we ordered their specialty chicken karaage and it was very delicious. It has a nice crispy and crunchy texture. The batter on the chicken was good and once you bite it, the meat is juicy and tender. Doesn't really need dipping since it's so good. As for the Mazemen, we ordered the Deluxe and Veggie one, both is a 5/5. Very flavorful and it tastes just like ramen, but without the soup. The presentation of the dish looks like a work of art. Very picture pretty. I ate that shit up within ten minutes. After that they give you a scoop of rice so you can mix it up with the leftover sauce. Lots of umami for sure. Definitely will come back again to try the other flavors. People, trust me and come through!
