The medium was the perfect amount of food for me. (I was pretty darn hungry.) the cutlet was perfectly crispy. The egg and rice were perfectly soft and creamy. The star of the show was the sauce! It was salty, but not over the top. It may just look like brown gravy, but it's so much more. It was slightly salty and full of flavor! The dumplings were light and crispy. I am IN LOVE! Now let's talk spice. The level 1 is mild. It was perfect for me as someone who likes a tiny bit of spice. It didn't even burn, it just had a great flavor. And so we flagged her down to let her know and she basically asked us "are we sure we are missing an order?" Um if she'd look at our table she could see that everyone had a dish but one person. She proceeded to put the order in but we had to wait to all eat together until the dish came out. The food itself was amazing as per usual. This time I tried the crispy chicken curry. It was delicious. The chicken wasn't so crispy and oily. It was more like air fried. The curry was delicious. I also had a side of naan bread which pairs perfectly with the curry. One of the workers (pink or red/black hair) asked us if Garlic Cheese Naan was ours and we said yes since she was speaking very fast. As soon as we realized it wasn't order, we corrected ourselves and exchanged with the server for our Garlic Naan. I don't understand how anyone can give less than five stars to this place. My husband and I have come here several times within the past few months and it has quickly become a favorite in the Aliso Viejo area. It is less than five minutes away from the movie theatre and is a quick and easy meal before or after we watch a movie. I always get the Chicken Cutlet Curry with Spice Level 5 (out of 10) and it is perfect. I am a spicy food lover and can't believe that level 5 has so much heat that it gets my nose running. The chicken is crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. I have also had the chicken cutlet with vegetable curry and it came with carrot and potato chunks which was also amazing. Husband tried the curry with shrimp at spice level 1 and he really enjoyed his meal as well. He wasn't even hungry when he ordered this dish and he licked his plate clean. That's when you know the food is really good. I love the little radish condiment they have on every table as well. Every time we have come here, the little jars of radish are filled to the brim and we never have to beg for more. I love that we can just help ourselves to this much needed condiment whenever we eat our curry dishes here. I wouldn't say it's groundbreaking or a lot better than other places I've been to, but I like to come here specifically for the variety/customization, and their cheese naan. Eating cheese naan with curry just makes it taste so much better! The portions are also fairly big, and it's about $16-$18 a plate, so it's averagely priced. The inside of the restaurant is clean. It's not super big but not too small either, but it does seem like quite a wait accumulates on weekends. Since it's in Diamond Jamboree, it can be busy, and parking here is also a nightmare. Word to the wise - this is located at the infamous Diamond Jamboree plaza, so if you come at peak dinner time or weekends make sure you have a full tank of gas and a bad attitude to find parking. Yelp waitlist can't save you on this one. I had the omelette chicken katsu curry and my wife had the same with the classic pork. I recommend to dine-in as the signature omelette curry is only available as such. It was delicately rich so it somehow still felt like a light meal despite the deep-fried, sauced up goodness. Immensely satisfying and addictingly seasoned with an unmistakably unique flavor profile. It took all of my willpower not to lick the plate clean in public. A top-tier takeout meal as a result. Service was fine but more akin to quick-service rather than full. Best suited for solo / couple diners because of this and the relatively smaller space. Generally intimate and quiet setting with apparent focus on minimal interaction as you order and pay with your phone. I take it as efficient but large groups looking for a more traditional restaurant experience may be disappointed in this regard. Now for the sole slight negative: this is comfort food with ironically cutthroat pricing. The taste and vibe alone make this a 5* joint, but I have to take one off for the "nickel & dime" pricing. Every single add-on possible is charged for and at rather elevated amounts. The most egregious to me as a capsaicin junkie is the scaling surcharge for spice level. I assume they just add more spice powder to achieve this but glad to be corrected if I'm wrong. Max level spice is 10 which will run you a whole extra $1 for likely fractions of a cent worth of powder. Aren't we spicelords already punishing ourselves enough? When the base price of a plate is already pushing $20 and tip is expected, this is pretty painful. Overall I do still recommend Coco Ichibanya here as it scratches a rather unique comfort food itch, but that comfort only lasts until the bill comes. read more

I came here with my family on a Sunday afternoon and it was about a 15 minute wait for dine-in. We were given a physical menu once we were seated, but noticed that there was a QR code at the table that we could scan to see an online version, as well as place the order through instead of waiting to order with a server. I got the pork cutlet with a regular rice portion, and regular spice level. Food came out within 10 minutes and everything was piping hot. The cutlet portion seems smaller from the menu photo (and from what I remember), but it was still delicious. The breading was crispy and the pork was thoroughly cooked and juicy. For a regular spice level, the spice barely heated up my throat; it's a bummer that it costs more to increase the spice. First, the servers never checked in on us and I believe it's due to the new iPad menu(which was dirty with dried curry). They never even refilled our water unless asked. Second, their bathroom.... I come to find out there are two separate doors for the 2 and 1 business. There's a wall dividing the take out and dine-in business. It feels as if they are 2 different restaurants. The left side is take out. The right side is dine-in. I ordered via GrubHub. Pickup was easy once I walked through the correct door. The food was fresh and tasty. The chicken katsu curry (4 stars) is crispy without an oily, greasy, or burned taste. The variety of spice levels available for the curry work well when going with people whose spice tolerance, or lack thereof, differ. The level I selected cost a little less than the spicier ones. The mild curry I pchose was creamy, smooth and savory. The only reason I'm taking one star off is the rice (3 stars). It doesn't taste as good to me as store bought brands like Nishiki. We also had to wait a bit for a host to come by to answer any questions since they didn't have enough workers. Golden crispy on the outside & slightly tender inside. The curry sauce was rich, savory, and lightly sweet with a spice level at 3 that was just enough kick for me. I added asparagus, tomatoes, and cheese into the curry for a tasty upgrade. - Keema Naan (Garlic Cheese Naan & Regular Naan). Deeply spiced and meaty. The regular naan is delicious (really soft and chewy), but the garlic cheese naan is where it's at! I love cheese, so it's obvious why I said what I said. - Omelet Curry with Chicken Katsu. The omelet was laid over the rice, though unlike classic omurice, it didn't spill out with silky, slightly runny egg when cut. Instead, the egg was fully cooked. The chicken katsu featured a crunchy exterior while the meat inside remained juicy and tender. Of course, the curry tied it all together. THE PARKING. This plaza is a dining magnet, and the parking lot reflects that. Even with plenty of spaces, competition is fierce. Expect to circle at least a couple of times before landing a spot. THE VERDICT. I really like that they have call buttons at each table in case you need your server. They were very quick to respond and were also attentive. What we ordered; 1) chicken cutlet - served with rice, spice level 5. I ordered this with tofu and okra as an added topping and ate it with the pickled radish. The heat from the spice level was great. The curry was well seasoned and not bland at all. 2) fried teriyaki chicken - appetizer. 3) Keema cheese French fries - so good. We joined online from home on a Saturday night and the wait time was listed as 20-30min. The total wait time ended up being closer to an hour. It's located in diamond Jamboree, which can get extremely crowded especially on weekends. Parking is sometimes difficult here and we ended up stuck in line/not moving in the parking structure for at least 10 minutes. This location has all indoor seating available and the service is very quick. There are different prices for various add ons (ex. Amount of rice and spice level) and it's good to know exactly what you want within a few minutes of being seated. They mentioned that the kitchen was a little behind when we sat down but we were still able to get our food at a decent time. The curry is very savory and the rice is always perfectly fluffy. The chicken cutlet was crispy and they serve a good amount of meat with the dish. They had an extra naan so they gave it to us with our meal and it was a good addition to the meal. It just wasn't as good as I remembered. The wait wasn't terrible, it was about 40 minute wait. There are plenty of shops around to walk through while you wait. The place itself is tucked into a small corner, so seating is limited and can feel a bit tight depending on where you sit. It's definitely changed since my last visit, though; it's grown a lot and now has way more variety on the menu. As for the food, it was just okay. This restaurant has been open for over a decade. The curry here is really good. It has really good flavor and they offer different spice levels which is great. The chicken katsu is my favorite. The chicken is tender. The protein portions seems small. They give a lot of rice and sauce. It's always crowded here. The service seems slow. HAPPY CURRYING! read more

Ordered from their express side & one plate came out hot and the other was cold, undercooked, and under-seasoned. Such a bummer.

This isn't our first time dining here, but the service this time was quite poor. Not everyone, but especially the server with red/ black hair. We ordered three identical plates, but one of them had hardly any curry broth. The server said it was because we ordered extra vegetables. However, it doesn't make sense to pay for extra curry broth $5.39+tax when we also paid for more vegetables. Why should we have to order an extra side? I hope for a better resolution in this situation because $27 (before tax) for a pork cutlet omelet with vegetables and curry broth is very costly. The server should at least learn to explain the situation clearly when the order is placed! Additionally, the curry broth was served after we had finished eating. The server also dropped off the check before the broth arrived. What is the point of quick walking if it prevents you from listening to customers properly?
