My wife took me here for my birthday and I was overjoyed with the selection. I recommend getting a reservation to avoid major wait times. Interior is quite the Japanese vibes, it's not very spacious but spacious at the same time? We were seated near the counter and next to us were a table of two basically right beside me. Staff here is very efficient. They're quick and attentive. Orders were taken quickly and food came out in moderate speed. Around 20 minutes or so which is a bit slow but I heard that they take their time preparing the food, hence the higher quality. I'd say it's worth the wait for sure after trying our menu items. My wife ordered the Inaka Hot Soba and I ordered the Beef Curry. Both are presented very beautifully. We also got a Crunchy Sushi Roll to share which was super delicious and a perfect appetizer before the main entrees. The Inaka Hot Soba was very delicious, it's similar to a mazesoba mix + bibimbap which both are one of my favorite dishes. Soba noodles were not tough at all and very savory. Many flavors mixed all in one bowl was the perfect dish overall. The beef curry was absolutely delicious as well. Everything was delicious--the noodles were fresh, and the broth was perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of flavor. There's plenty of parking in the shopping center, but finding a spot immediately in front of the restaurant can be a bit challenging since you're competing with customers from several nearby restaurants and a coffee shop. It wasn't fully packed by the time we sat down. While he was busy chatting with another table, we were waiting for 15 minutes before the guy who seated us came to take our order. We ordered and noticed people who were seated much later than us got their food already. Another server who brought food to the table next to us noticed us and asked if we got our food yet. He double checked for us and main server hadn't sent our order to the kitchen. We had already waited 25 minutes in addition after placing our order. Our order came out very quickly after the realization. Unfortunately the lemon salmon sushi roll that came out seemed incredibly rushed. The roll wasn't tucked in so each piece we grabbed broke apart. The fried squid legs were good. The udon texture was good, but by the time our food came out, we weren't in the best mood. All the waiting and lack of service ruined our appetite. The 2nd server gave us a bag of salted noodle toppings to-go as a solace for the bad service? Okidoki is one of those hidden local gems that become one of your regular spots. My family & I came here as a spur of the moment decision and they had everything from ramen, to soba, to udon. We made a reservation for 5 for lunch on a Saturday. I would recommend to make a res if you're with a larger party, but if you're 2 people, you can probably walk in! They have a lot of staff so service was great and attentive. We got the tamago and gyoza appetizers which were well made. They had no tako dishes (squid) of any form available at around 1:30 pm, saying it was all sold out. I ordered the spicy beef udon since I saw it online a lot, and it was definitely worth it! Okidoki is the larger sister restaurant of Costa Mesa's much smaller (and therefore busier) Meiji Seimen, if you aren't in the mood for waiting. Both of their menus are very similar, and you will see some same dishes across the two. We started off with their crispy kara-age (fried chicken) which is best eaten with a squeeze of lemon and dunked into their yummy garlicky, oniony dipping sauce. Always best eaten right out of the fryer, piping hot. You just can't go wrong with their most popular app. For starters, we also got their blistered shishito peppers, which comes with bonito flakes dancing from the steam of the peppers. If you've never had shishito peppers before, they are very very mild in spiciness, but be warned you'll always have one extra spicy pepper when you least expect it! For our main, we got the spicy beef udon, which comes simmering in its metal bowl atop a fire, keeping it hot as you enjoy it slowly. The red broth has a nice kick of heat, but not so spicy that it will irritate your throat. The slices of beef are oh so tender and flavorful. The rich broth clings on perfectly to the thick udon noodles. If you're sharing, plan on getting extra udon noodles to soak up all that delicious broth! At the end, drop the cheesy rice ball into the broth to make a congee, soaking up more of that delicious broth. I visited on a Friday afternoon around 11:45AM shortly after they opened (11:30AM) and almost every table was filled already! There were two ladies taking orders so ordering was quick; the wait for the food to arrive was very long. I got the spicy seafood udon with standard spice, which took nearly 25 minutes. I would not recommend coming here during a work lunch because you will be rushing through your meal, as that was our experience. While the spicy seafood udon is delicious, the soup serving is small. A pro is that there is large shrimp in the soup and lots of baby clams. For a standard spice level, the soup was surprisingly very savory and spicy. Normally when I order something spicy at a Japanese restaurant, I expect the flavor to not actually be spicy. The udon comes with a fried rice ball with a cheese filling on the side. You should toss the rice ball in the broth to soak up all the flavor and eat it because the ball itself is very hard. In terms of price, the food is expensive for the portion. The restaurant itself is very small so I highly recommend arriving early wait or to put yourself on the Yelp waitlist. It was brought out in a small cauldron like bowl atop a flame! It was boiling hot the whole time I ate! I enjoyed both these dishes. The udon broth was clean and flavorful with nicely cooked udon noodles. The beef was a bit chewy but had good flavor, especially when dipped in the ponzu sauce. I would upgrade to spicy if I ordered this entrée again. The assorted tempura was cooked fresh, had a nice, crispy texture, and didn't feel greasy. The drink menu offers sake, shochu, local and Japanese beers, sodas, lemonade, tea, and more. The happy hour menu looks great, too. I had a great lunch experience overall. After coming here a few times, I found coming to this spot to consistently be a delightful experience, not only for the food, but also for the helpful service. I have had items such as their curry udon, karaage chicken, and spicy beef udon (as is shown in my photo). I've been to Meiji Semen, the original location, and the only difference between the two is the Okidoki has spacious seatings and has sashimi/sushi rolls on their menu. The quality of their udon and soba is still the same. We got there pretty early, but it got crowded quick. I ordered the spicy beef udon and it comes in a hot pot style. It's very delicious and is my go to udon. We tried their fried pork katsu rice bowl and it was pretty basic; nothing special. The guy who served us was okay. There's definitely a shorter wait here and it's a bit more spacious which is nice. As for the food, I tried their spicy beef udon since it was a cold day. It is pretty pricy for what it is - "spicy" soupy udon with a few shavings of beef. If you want it to have enough spiciness to feel it, you'll have to pay an extra $1.5. It came with a crispy rice ball with a bit of cheese inside to eat with your leftover soup. The taste of everything was really good! I was especially surprised at how much I enjoyed the rice ball. Is it worth the price? Considering it's mostly carbs, soup, and a very disappointing amount of beef, I would say it's a bit overpriced. But again, it was really yummy! Shrimp Tempura for this price you get 5 pieces of tempura accompanied with the tempura dipping sauce. the tempura is perfectly crisp and flakey while staying soft inside! Tuna Roll simple, fresh and clean, this 6 piece roll was not too filling but acted as a nice add on to our appetizer. Spicy Beef Udon served in a boiling hot pot, this udon is spicy, hot and sizzling. the standard level of spice is free but to make it spicier there is an additional fee. the flavors of this udon were delicious and i liked the greens that came in it. there wasn't much beef inside and due to the sizzling pot my noodles got really soft faster than i could eat them. it also comes with a cheesy rice ball on the side that you're supposed to mix into your soup once you've finished the noodles. i personally didn't love it. i felt like it didn't really match the flavor of the soup and the outer crust of the ball was way too hard and crunchy for my liking, but my boyfriend thought it tasted good together so to each their own. Cold Spicy Egg and Tororo Tsukemen if you're a fan of the cold, dip ramen (tsukemen), then this dish is for you! the cold noodles are served perfectly chewy and al dente and it pairs well with the egg and tororo dip. the boy added a side of meat for an additional charge because it isn't served with any on its own! read more

It was a little loud in here due to having a lot of guests in at the same time, but it wasn't too bad. You can still talk to your table. Okidoki is a great place to go when it's a cold day and you need something soupy to warm your heart and soul. Egg, Tororo, and Mentai - We love mentai so we had to choose this. The potato (tororo) added a nice light flavor to the udon as well. However it also gave a super slimy texture to the dish, so just a warning because this isn't a good dish for any picky eaters. Curry Udon - I always crave Japanese curry so I went with this option. The flavor is very warm and homey, but with such a thick broth, I got full really fast and couldn't finish it. I think I would've enjoyed it more if I got the katsu curry rice bowl instead or one of their other bowls. I think we just made some choices that aren't our preferences, but the food here are very well made with some new things to try. Saw this place on social media and decided to give it a try. We ordered the viral spicy beef udon, and since I like spicy food, I upgraded to extra spicy (there is a $1 upcharge). The flavor was great--rich broth, a good amount of beef, and a generous portion of udon. It wasn't spicy to me personally, but it was still very enjoyable and didn't taste artificial at all. The udon also comes with a cheese ball on the side. After you finish the noodles, you're supposed to drop the cheese ball into the remaining soup and let it cook down into a risotto-like texture. Honestly, I enjoyed the cheese ball "risotto" even more than the udon itself--it was so good. We also ordered the chicken karaage as an appetizer and absolutely loved it. It was super crispy and cooked perfectly. Service really stood out. The servers checked in on us regularly, and I appreciated that our server took the time to explain how to eat the cheese ball. Okidoki by Meiji is a solid spot if you're craving comforting Japanese food with a few standout items. My go-to order is the spicy beef udon paired with the cheese rice ball. Adding the rice ball at the end to turn the broth into a risotto-style dish is such a satisfying finish and definitely worth trying. While there isn't a large selection of sushi, the small bowls of tuna or salmon over rice are simple and really good. The tempura is also well done, and I always enjoy their hot green tea. For dessert, the panna cotta is a nice, light way to end the meal. One thing to note--the wait can be long, so I highly recommend adding yourself to the Yelp app waitlist ahead of time.
