Small place - either get there early or make reservations. Located in a strip mall - plenty of parking Good food. We enjoyed everything we ordered. Two udon and a fried chicken. They offer toddler utensils. The udon was filled with so much beef. Light but tasty.

Okidoki is the larger sister restaurant of Costa Mesa's much smaller (and therefore busier) Meiji Seimen, if you aren't in the mood for waiting. Both of their menus are very similar, and you will see some same dishes across the two. We started off with their crispy kara-age (fried chicken) which is best eaten with a squeeze of lemon and dunked into their yummy garlicky, oniony dipping sauce. Always best eaten right out of the fryer, piping hot. You just can't go wrong with their most popular app. For starters, we also got their blistered shishito peppers, which comes with bonito flakes dancing from the steam of the peppers. If you've never had shishito peppers before, they are very very mild in spiciness, but be warned you'll always have one extra spicy pepper when you least expect it! For our main, we got the spicy beef udon, which comes simmering in its metal bowl atop a fire, keeping it hot as you enjoy it slowly. The red broth has a nice kick of heat, but not so spicy that it will irritate your throat. The slices of beef are oh so tender and flavorful. The rich broth clings on perfectly to the thick udon noodles. If you're sharing, plan on getting extra udon noodles to soak up all that delicious broth! At the end, drop the cheesy rice ball into the broth to make a congee, soaking up more of that delicious broth. The staff is welcoming and friendly, checking in at the right times and even offering bibs to help with the splashes of broth if you're a messy eater!

I visited on a Friday afternoon around 11:45AM shortly after they opened (11:30AM) and almost every table was filled already! There were two ladies taking orders so ordering was quick; the wait for the food to arrive was very long. I got the spicy seafood udon with standard spice, which took nearly 25 minutes. I would not recommend coming here during a work lunch because you will be rushing through your meal, as that was our experience. While the spicy seafood udon is delicious, the soup serving is small. A pro is that there is large shrimp in the soup and lots of baby clams. For a standard spice level, the soup was surprisingly very savory and spicy. Normally when I order something spicy at a Japanese restaurant, I expect the flavor to not actually be spicy. The udon comes with a fried rice ball with a cheese filling on the side. You should toss the rice ball in the broth to soak up all the flavor and eat it because the ball itself is very hard. In terms of price, the food is expensive for the portion. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant itself is very small so I highly recommend arriving early wait or to put yourself on the Yelp waitlist.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The parking lot is shared with other businesses in the plaza, so you might have to do a few loops if it's a busy time of day.

EXCELLENT SERVICE. all staff very friendly, vibes feel VERY AUTHENTIC! Sukiyaki, Udon, Soba, Curry, all great.. but their best I've ever had is their Salmon Belly Bowl! Can't wait for it to come back! Love that there's weekly/seasonal chef specials, really makes the quality of this establishment stand out :)

After coming here a few times, I found coming to this spot to consistently be a delightful experience, not only for the food, but also for the helpful service. I have had items such as their curry udon, karaage chicken, and spicy beef udon (as is shown in my photo). [[HIGHLIGHT]]Although this place is not exactly the most spacious between tables, the swift service and delicious food makes up for it.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Prices here are reasonable and they definitely do not skimp out on the portions. There is so much respect paid to japanese culture through communication between workers and even to the patrons, which I appreciate alongside with some authentic japanese food made by some incredible cooks! If you are ever in the Tustin area and are seeking some Japanese comfort food, this spot is undoubtedly worth trying out.

Okidoki has been on my to-try list for a while. I finally dropped in for lunch recently and had a pleasant experience. There's an on-site waitlist and a Yelp waitlist. Lunch wasn't too bad a wait, but I hear dinner is busy. The menu offers plenty of classic Japanese dishes along with seasonal specials. The udon noodles are made fresh in-house daily. Plenty of care is taken to ensure the quality of all the food. The combos also offer good value and generous portions. My most recent order was the shabu shabu beef udon and assorted tempura. I enjoyed both these dishes. The udon broth was clean and flavorful with nicely cooked udon noodles. The beef was a bit chewy but had good flavor, especially when dipped in the ponzu sauce. I would upgrade to spicy if I ordered this entrée again. The assorted tempura was cooked fresh, had a nice, crispy texture, and didn't feel greasy. The drink menu offers sake, shochu, local and Japanese beers, sodas, lemonade, tea, and more. The happy hour menu looks great, too. I had a great lunch experience overall. The staff was kind and attentive. I didn't have to wait long for a table. The prices are fair for the quality and quantity they offer. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The dining area was clean and fairly spacious.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I can't wait to dine in again.

my friend and i were craving udon and had heard a lot of good things about this place, so we were both super excited to try it out! [[HIGHLIGHT]]we came here on a tuesday evening and it wasn't too crowded with about a 5 minute wait for the servers to clean our table.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] on the day that we came, there was an anniversary promo going on where you get a free hand roll with a purchase of any udon dish, so i chose the salmon hand roll and it tasted very fresh and filling. there was a good rice to fish ratio! for my udon, i chose the spicy beef udon, which was served atop a burning fire to keep it warm, and this soup was very flavorful and had a good spice to it! a very comforting soup for a slightly chilly day. the crispy rice ball that came with the udon set was really good at absorbing the broth after you eat all of the noodles and still retained some of its crunch! i would definitely come back again to try all of the other soup options that they have here! the soba dishes also look super refreshing, so there's a good variety here for everyone!

if you know me you know that meiji is my favorite udon spot in oc. a bit ago they opened a sister restaurant in tustin so i finally got to check it out! it had a lot of the same items as meiji seimen but with more. it was still delicious but i will say i still prefer the costa mesa spot more, personally! parking gets pretty busy but it's free! Shrimp Tempura for this price you get 5 pieces of tempura accompanied with the tempura dipping sauce. the tempura is perfectly crisp and flakey while staying soft inside! Tuna Roll simple, fresh and clean, this 6 piece roll was not too filling but acted as a nice add on to our appetizer. Spicy Beef Udon served in a boiling hot pot, this udon is spicy, hot and sizzling. the standard level of spice is free but to make it spicier there is an additional fee. the flavors of this udon were delicious and i liked the greens that came in it. there wasn't much beef inside and due to the sizzling pot my noodles got really soft faster than i could eat them. it also comes with a cheesy rice ball on the side that you're supposed to mix into your soup once you've finished the noodles. i personally didn't love it. i felt like it didn't really match the flavor of the soup and the outer crust of the ball was way too hard and crunchy for my liking, but my boyfriend thought it tasted good together so to each their own. Cold Spicy Egg and Tororo Tsukemen if you're a fan of the cold, dip ramen (tsukemen), then this dish is for you! the cold noodles are served perfectly chewy and al dente and it pairs well with the egg and tororo dip. the boy added a side of meat for an additional charge because it isn't served with any on its own!

The garlic beef udon was delicious and the ultimate comfort dish! Broth was unami, slightly sweet and reminded me of sukiyaki. Udon was bouncy with the perfect chew. Plenty of parking in the lot. Will visit again when in OC.

Must try the spicy beef udon! This place has been on my to-go list for a long time. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I've been to Meiji Seimen which is a sister restaurant and this place gives a similar ambiance.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The menu and pricing is the same too. The service was great, they were attentive and provided relevant recommendations. The highlight of this experience was definitely the entree: spicy beef udon (level 3 spice). I love a hot and spicy dish so would highly recommend it to anyone with a similar palette. They also provide a small portion of rice to absorb the soup flavoring when you've finished your udon.

Decided to stop by since we were in the mood for Meiji but near Tustin. Happy that their menu was similar to their Costa Mesa location. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There's definitely a shorter wait here and it's a bit more spacious which is nice.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] As for the food, I tried their spicy beef udon since it was a cold day. It is pretty pricy for what it is - "spicy" soupy udon with a few shavings of beef. If you want it to have enough spiciness to feel it, you'll have to pay an extra $1.5. It came with a crispy rice ball with a bit of cheese inside to eat with your leftover soup. The taste of everything was really good! I was especially surprised at how much I enjoyed the rice ball. Is it worth the price? Considering it's mostly carbs, soup, and a very disappointing amount of beef, I would say it's a bit overpriced. But again, it was really yummy! Service was good when we could grab someone's attention. Otherwise, since we were sitting in a corner that was easily hidden behind the small wall at the front, it was hard to tag anyone down.

Yummy noodle spot! I ordered the shabu shabu udon but subbed the udon for soba. The soba is amazing so I was happy they accomodated for the substitution. The broth was flavorful and the beef was plentiful and tender. The staff here are friendly and the food came out relatively quickly as well. Great spot for udon and soba!

I've been to Meiji Semen, the original location, and the only difference between the two is the Okidoki has spacious seatings and has sashimi/sushi rolls on their menu. The quality of their udon and soba is still the same. We got there pretty early, but it got crowded quick. I ordered the spicy beef udon and it comes in a hot pot style. It's very delicious and is my go to udon. We tried their fried pork katsu rice bowl and it was pretty basic; nothing special. The guy who served us was okay. The salmon was good and its skin was crispy. It was a good side dish.

Does the inside have central air conditioning (HVAC) and/or air purifier(s) to filter indoor air?

The place does have central air conditioning. No air purifiers though.

How many ounces of beef are served in the spicy beef udon, or in an order of extra beef?

Thank you so much for asking us question. Spicy Beef Udon has 2.5oz of beef and we have additional option for Extra Beef.

Is the place really closed for lunch Monday -Friday??? That's too bad. Been wanting to come here for lunch since we work near by.

Yes, they only open for lunch on Saturdays and Sundays

Do they still have bento boxes?

    Unfortunately no more

Last time we were here, we ordered the shishito peppers, but they were really spicy - almost at the level of Serrano peppers. Are these really shishito?

Yes it is. With shishito peppers, it's a hit and miss. From my experience, 1 out of 10 will be spicy. If you experience 7 out of 10, you just got bad luck..... :((((

What protein provides the base liquid for the beef udon, pork or beef? what is the base liquid for…

The spicy beef udon is made with pork bone broth, and the ramen are made with chicken broth.

Is the don don noodle still available?

Yes it is and it's delicious!

The space has a very modern Japandi aesthetic with sleek wood accents, Scandinavian minimalism, and a semi-open kitchen concept that lets you watch the chefs working over the binchotan grill and preparing sushi. It creates an atmosphere that feels elevated. Service was attentive, friendly, and professional throughout the meal. My hesitation comes from the menu. Compared to previous visits, it felt like the selection had been reduced quite substantially while prices have continued to climb. That's not to say the food wasn't excellent. Every dish we ordered was well-executed and delicious. I just found myself missing some of the variety that made me fall in love with Izakaya Hachi in the first place. Pork Cheek (10/10) - My favourite dish of the night. The presentation is deceptively simple, but the flavors are incredibly complex. Every component on the plate complemented the others perfectly. I can't believe I've visited so many times without ordering this. Beef Tongue (7/10) - I absolutely love beef tongue, and this was cooked perfectly. It was tender and flavourful. My only issue was that it arrived a little colder than room temperature, which took away a bit of the magic. Oysters (10/10) - Super fresh and paired well with the grated daikon, ponzu, and green onion. Uni & Wagyu (9/10) - Again, so simple but yet a perfect pairing of ingredients. Definitely on the pricier side, but worth it.
