The Vegan Onigiri is surprisingly satisfying, packed with flavor and perfect as a snack or side. And the Japanese Cucumber Salad is so refreshing with the perfect balance of tangy, savory, and just a little bit of spice. Terrible... truly terrible. I drove out from Garden Grove because I saw this place on yelp and the photos looked good - I was craving onigiri so I thought "why not" and headed over. First, there is no one in front. I had ordered online so upon arriving I thought maybe they were making my food or just doing something in the back. After waiting about 10 minutes I finally had to call out rather loudly and someone came slowly out. Second, the place is DIRTY. There are stains dripping down the wall and the surfaces all look very grimy. Last, the food was awful. The rice was mushy - way too much water added. The salmon tasted metallic and spoiled - like that sulfuric essence that old boiled eggs. The beef was reminiscent of beef jerky. I had two more onigiri (plate of 4 for $17 after tax) and I ended up throwing them all away after those first few bites because I was concerned about getting sick. Given the recent reviews, if this place did serve good food, its certainly gone downhill. Skip this place. You're better of going to Lagu or Tokyo Central. read more

The hidden $1 service fee and $0.25 convenience fee is enough to make me never come back. It's very shady when they do this stuff. Either fold it into the price or be upfront about it. Stopped by for lunch today and unfortunately left hungry with how bad this was. Ricebunn is located in the back corner of Trade Food Hall. Unfortunately the whole area is looking a bit run down, especially for being in Irvine. There wasn't anyone working the front so I used the digital ordering system they had set up. I ordered the Spicy KBBQ Beef Onigiri and the Spicy Salmon Onigiri and both were terrible. The quality of the fish and beef was subpar at best, and they were both very bland and gamey. Everything tasted like it'd been sitting in a fridge or freezer for an extended period of time and was thrown into a microwave before being served. I took one bite of each and unfortunately had to throw them away. There are so many better options for Onigiri out there, so please visit those locations and avoid this place, it's simply not worth it. read more

Was hungry and craving something small but not a "snack", yet not a full meal either as I had dinner plans soon. I was in the area and decided to stop by here for a quick bite. It's located inside the Trade Food Hall. Parking here during lunch is a hot mess because it's in the Irvine Business District, so all of the workers in the area come here for lunch and it can get crowded. But during off hours and dinner it's not too bad - just something to keep in mind. Because it's a food hall, its community open seating and no designated seating for each restaurant, you just order your food and then take a seat somewhere in the open space hall. It's basically self-service as you order at the kiosk and not with an actual person. I decided to go with their trio of onigiri for $12, ended up being about $14-$15 after tax. I got the spicy tuna mayo, crab, and kbbq beef. Each onigiri was a hearty size and good value for about $4 each. They fell apart easily and were pretty messy though so I recommend having a fork and napkin ready. Overall it was a good light bite option, and I don't have any complaints. read more

The Korean BBQ didn't taste like authentic bbq flavor, but it was still savory and delightful. The salmon was not dry (yay!) and was also went very well with the rice. Overall, they were both soft and didn't have any crunch, in case you were looking for that. The dining area is shaded but not totally covered (don't plan to eat here on rainy days). Service was super friendly too. They make massive rice plates (basically a plate form of their rice balls to eat with utensils). I loved this place when it first opened, but the quality has gone downhill. My go-to onigiris were salmon, tuna, shrimp, and bulgogi. The bulgogi used to be great, but after they changed the preparation it now tastes more like carne asada. The salmon, tuna, and rice also used to be consistently fresh, no matter the time of day, but quality noticeably drops in the evenings now. Portions used to be generous, but they've shrunk to match competitors like Tenori, which makes the prices feel unjustified. When I called to complain, there was no apology or accountability. I even stopped by the same week to speak with a main employee, who was defensive instead of receptive. Unfortunately, I can't recommend this place for onigiri anymore. read more

Ordered the chicken katsu plate the other day and honestly I was extremely disappointed with the item. Honestly it tasted like someone went to Costco and purchased frozen chicken filets and the frozen stir fry vegetables and literally just reheated it and put it in a takeout container. The vegetables were bland and soggy and not seasoned. I think the best part about the dish was the rice. Also service here is really slow, even though I ordered ahead through an app I still had to wait another 15 mins for my food after the prescribed time as there was only one person working and he didn't appear to be moving with any urgency and was making each order one at a time. Photos on the self checkout are deceiving and the pricing was outrageous. $20 for a bowl that honestly portion size was fair, the quality of the tuna was a major letdown. Instead of tasting fresh, it was no doubt out of a can. For what I paid, I expected fresher ingredients and a more balanced flavor profile. The rice itself was fine, but it couldn't make up for the lackluster protein. I'd like to take note that I also order a lemonade that tasted nothing like a lemonade and more of a sprite spicy watered drink. One sip was enough for me to throw it away. Upon looking a the drink dispenser, it was tattered with stains and the bins that held the drink had so many lines from where the drink would sit at. After enjoying happy hour at Center Hub inside of Trade Food Hall, I got the munchies and was looking for a dinner option. I decided to give Ricebunn a try since I'm a carb lover. I had a few questions about the menu, but it was disappointing that they didn't have anybody working the front to ask. Customers are expected to order and pay at the kiosk and wait until their name is called. I ordered the Onigiri Trio because why not take the opportunity to try more flavors? I selected the Salmon, Tuna Mayo and KBBQ Beef and opted for the Spicy option for all three. They were good, but I felt the ratio of rice to ingredients unevenly and heavily favored the rice. Of the three, the KBBQ was my favorite. I'm not sure I'll visit again but if I do, I'd be down to try something different like their Onigiri on Plate options. read more

My onigiri was made to order and the person who made it just slathered on Sriracha hot sauce to make it spicy. Ricebunn clearly marked their gluten free options, and I told them up front I was ordering the gluten free items and had celiac, and needed to order gluten free only. The cashier acknowledged this, and even spoke to the person making the food. I got my food, and sat down. The cashier ran out and grabbed my food, and said the sesame seed blend contained gluten, and they needed to make it again. I was glad they caught it, but I get frustrated when they mark items as gluten free but don't truly check the ingredients. The food was just ok, I didn't like the tuna and I didn't like the veggie much either. I was glad for the extra effort, but not much of a hit for me. read more
